Eat 17 in Waltham Forest

The restaurant has closed. After 17 odd years, they couldn't make it work. But all is not lost. Check out the (once was) Spanish bar next door which is also going through a change with new owners. Eat17 Itself is being refurbished to open as a bar.

Update: October 2024. I recently heard that this place may be closing. My friend thought it was to do with cost of living etc. if that’s the case it’s a real shame for the road and the area. These guys were amongst some of the original businesses to open, and change the character of the area. I hope they are ok and can reinvent themselves and the brand. Been going to this place for years and it really has changed the face of Orford road and been a big part of why the area has come up so much. The breakfast on a w/e is decent. And their Chicken Buirger is ace too. The staff are always friendly.....the only thing to bear in mind is that you might need to book as it get's poretty busy at w/e and busy times.

Absolutely sad to see these guys go. Always had a great meal, unfortunately it took me this long to leave a review.

It is with sadness we read about your closing. My Son & Family have lived in Walthamstow for over 17 year and about 3 or 4 times a year we visited them. To our families it is the best restaurant we have dined in. Many,Many thanks for all the Many times we have eaten there, for Service & food. It just won't be the same in the village. Thankyou to all STAFF.

Tbh we didn’t even sit down to eat in the end. Odd vibe from some of the staff & pricey menu.

I came here with my son for a full breakfast, the staff are really helpful and friendly, we are always welcome. Loved the full English breakfast, delicious. The coffee was also made beautifully.

Welcomed on arrival. Attentive service. Fantastic steak frites - asked for medium and it was cooked to perfection. Delicious. Cheesecake with fruit compote was wonderful. The compote was brilliant - the perfect combination of tart and sweet. Yummy.

Great food, outdoor seating & served quickly. Can’t fault it! We shared a pizza & the tomato with mozzarella salad. Everything else going out looked good

Food is really nothing special. My chicken was dry overcooked. I didn’t get what I expected?! - the menu lied to me. Poor! Annoying!? Why? I wouldn’t go back after 12 years as a customer. It was great but not now. And the compulsory tip, keep it, here’s the reality, you’re overpriced and can’t deliver fairly basic food, which doesn’t even match the menu’s description! New restaurant needed here

Had the Avocado with two poached eggs on one small slice of toast for £16 and instead of bacon had salmon bt had to pay a further £2 . Absolutely a rip off. Will not be going back

Always a safe choice! The chicken burger never disappoints! Please bring back the Korean wings.

Food is fine/ great - restaurant level. inside/ outside lovely. Staff ok (the Kabyle-looking waiter could learn to smile though) but +12.5% for the service is simply the straw that breaks the camels back: over £60.00 for 2 dishes and a drink, in a local eatery is non-sense. +20% vat added to +12.5%service= nearly 33% of your bill is for something not even in your plate. A third. And considering Eat17 business is flourishing (shops/eateries etc.. kudos) pay your staff more, rather than having customers paying astronomically for the very basic service. Menu is nice, could be changed a bit but nice, there could be NO service charge as a lot of places do, or 10% now 12.5% in a backstreet of Walthamstow? Also 'cashless only' makes refusal of paying the £12.5% awkward as well as being on the wrong side of modern.

The coffee was nice, didn't try the food. But the food looked nice from what we saw.

Great location, nice atmosphere but forgot part of our order and it was expensive for what it was, wouldn't bother again as there are plenty of options in the area.

We popped in on a sunny summer evening and were pleased to have found a spot. Food and service were great. Will go back soon.

So amazing. Have been here 3 times while on holiday. Great staff. Silvia is THE BEST. All seating options are good. Every dish is excellent. Very well made cocktails and good wine selection. Yummy Sunday roast. Can’t go wrong here.

My daughter was eating an ice cream from their ice cream shop, we sat in one of their tables outside and they kicked us out even though there were 5 other free tables. Not very nice.

Go here regularly and always have a good time. Food is a little on the expensive side so it is more of a treat place for us. But service is always genuine and food and wine is delicious.

We had a delicious dinner with a lovely crisp rosé served by a very attentive waitress who explained my friend's dish before she committed to her choice. It was great sitting outside in a lovely street and I thought "You know what? I could make this my regular go-to eating spot" Until it came time to pay the bill. I was told at that point by a charmless waiter that it is a card only establishment despite there being no warning about this anywhere in sight, either posted on the door or on the menu. I wanted to pay by cash, so the waiter walked off to consult the manager. I just put the cash on the table and left. Sadly I won't be returning, which is a shame

I visited last week with my friend and our babies (in buggies). The man seating us made us feel really unwelcome. He made a fuss about our buggies being in the way (despite us really trying to keep them out the way and stay outside) and we generally felt out of place, in the way and unwanted. The food and other people working there were nice but overall it was an offputting experience

I’ve been working in Walthamstow this week and stumbled upon this place on the first evening- I’ve been back twice since. The ambiance is just lovely, the food and wine even better. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

Staff so much nicer. Food hygiene down again to 3, no sticker showing. Most food overpriced. Do better.

What can I say, this time around not good at all, keep having issues with the card machine, not taking card when paying, this sadly has happened few times in the past, having to pay again and no thought of my own part, this happened again this morning, as somehow the payment did not go though on the card yesterday, 15/06/24. It's not funny at all when you visit more or less every day, the cost does add up these day even for a coffee and a croissant, yes I do understand mistakes happen, but this was the last straw this time round, as it should be the assistant who takes the payment to make sure its goes though, not turn there back on you making coffee for other customers, it's the assistant to make sure things go smoothly as possible when paying by card. but at the same time they should trust the customer who comes regularly, the last thing I will point out, the assistant should make sure the card goes though each time they service a customer. on this occasion a bit disappointing visit....

By far the best restaurant in Walthamstow. Food is always fresh and tasty, service is always friendly, staff are so accommodating when we have our daughter with us. So glad we have this gem on our doorstep!

A lovely place, food was really good!

Had been looking forward to eating here with some family. Unfortunately the experience was ruined before it could begin, an extremely rude member of staff whom was obviously was having a bad day and took it out on us, turned us off completely and made to feel unwelcome

Extremely disappointing. The manager was very rude and ignored us. Gave us the impression we weren't welcome. We ended up leaving. Such a shame.

The staff were lovely, but unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. The dishes lacked flavor entirely, leading us to leave our meals unfinished. The seabass was notably small and bland. My child's burger was unenjoyable, and he mentioned it was the worst he's ever had. The lamb chops were chewy and unpleasant. Overall, a regrettable dining experience.

Wow this place is so nice! Took my mom here as we love going into Eat17's chatsworth rd shop. The food was incredibly good, we had the halloumi salad and a cheeseburger. It was delicious. The prices are totally respectable which is really nice to see, and love the use of local ingredients. The service was lovely, from the host who had great energy to our waiter (red glasses!) who was so welcoming and gave fantastic service. We'll be back!

Been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner many times since we moved here 4 years ago. When we first came here in covid, it was a bit hmm. Since then, we are so incredibly impressed by this place. Always such a solid. Food is so consistently good and staff are so friendly. It genuinely has got better and better over the years. Really lucky to have this a walk away! Worth coming to the village for! Make sure to book!

We bumped into this better of a place by chance and honestly this is top 👌 !! We had breakfast and coffees and honestly we both agreed this os one of the best quality breakfasts and coffee we've had. Amazing value for money, super fresh, deliciously made food...the bacon is simply fantastic! Service was quick and very friendly, the place is beautiful and welcoming. Can't recommend hight enough, will be back next time back in London

This was my second visit in 5 months, sadly not as good as the first. The menu has altered drastically and lacks innovation and flair. The offerings were basic and uninteresting. What we had was OK. The draught beer is served in 2/3 of a pint which makes it expensive per pint.

Great fresg tasty food. No dogs allowed in restaurant, only the bar.

The only down side to this place is that it is card only. We should care for cash more as soon we will be ripped off it completely. Otherwise great food and service,thank you .

We ate here today as a family group. We had the sausage and egg in a bun and avocado and bacon on sourdough. Really tasty and freshly made. Tasty coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. A big thank you to our friendly and helpful waiter Michael. Will definitely be eating here again.

A good restaurant to please yourself on vacation with delicious seafood dishes and royal service. We celebrated my birthday here with a small company, and everyone is glad that they chose this particular restaurant.

Warm & Friendly Staff , Comfortable vibe Super food and very reasonable priced Had a great experience on our date night - its our 2nd visit the first was just drinks and the food looked mazing so we booked it was easy to do so online and we arrived early was met offered drinks a place to sit waited a few minutes and we were sat at our table, we were not left for more than a few minutes water and menus arrived with our drinks. food once we order as delivered in food time and was cooked very very well hot and fresh. very very nice dining to break my diet too.

This establishment only allows dogs outside and in one section only, at the front. However it was the hosts reaction to us arriving with our dogs that I take exception to! He looked liked like I had walked in with a bunch of zombies and barked at me ‘No dogs allowed!’ Management you need to train your staff on etiquette and manners. Poor!!

I genuinely cannot believe they served us raw chicken wings. They were chargrilled on the outside and completely raw halfway. Manager was arrogant and unapologetic. Thats a completely unacceptable and seriously dangerous! Will definitely not go back and play Russian Roulette again.

A place you must see; it's usually bustling, has excellent coffee, and its brunch is too amazing to miss. Nice staff, vegan/vegetarian friendly, and our veggie breakfast was the best 👍

Always busy and rightly so - food is amazing here! Can't recommend the chicken burger enough, I've had a fair few in my life and these guys do it better than anyone else by miles.

Gorgeous food and lovely wait staff. Visited with my dog, and the only dog friendly area is at high tables by takeaway counter meaning on a busy day, there is a lot of noise and distractions disrupting the atmosphere. I’m assuming based on food and service that the main part of the restaurant is lovely but if visiting with your pup, I’m not sure I would recommend.

Decent modern European/international fare. Nothing that will blow your socks off — but that is by no means necessarily a bad thing. Quite expensive for what it is. Decent veggie selection.

We came here for my partners' parents wedding anniversary and the service we received was exceptional. The food itself was as good as always but the staff went out of their way to make us feel special.

Such a lovely lunch here - waiting staff were warm and kind, as well as efficient. Food was excellent, felt home cooked and hearty portion sizes. The restaurant was very busy but still clean, even the loos. Thanks to all involved whether front of house or behind the scenes.

Excellent food. Chorizo, chickpea and spinach soup was fantastic. My main was a duck breast with red cabbage and lyonnaise potatoes- very good. My wife wanted a lighter main and ordered the grain salad- this came up very large - bigger than all of the other main courses we saw - and was full of carbs - so not a light salad! Only slight negative was that as we were the early evening (7:30) - we were served very quickly whilst the tea time crowd were leaving. This rather rushed our time to enjoy the retro music and soak up the local vibe.

We live in Walthamstow and go to Eat 17 from time to time and always really enjoy it. It's a nice, relaxed bistro-y vibe and the staff are friendly and efficient. The food is always great. They do classic which are well executed and them dishes which offer creativity and playfulness with flavours, but never in too whacky a way. Lovely coffee as well! I also think it's very reasonably priced.

Gus & team took great care of us. The service was prompt and so friendly!! We will definitely be coming back soon :)

Went there for a roast last night after a really bad experience in another pub an hour before. EAT17 accommodated us last min, the staff was so friendly and attentive and the roast was one of the best I've had. I've also been for brunch which was very good too. Definitely recommend!

Could not fault this restaurant which benefits from being in an attractive road (Orford Road) away from the main shopping eating areas in Walthamstow. The whole appearance of the restaurant is attractive, warm, welcoming and relaxing. Front of house and the waiting team were excellent – courteous, efficient and very professional …they really know what they are doing. We didn’t have a booking (on a Saturday early evening) but we were soon seated and menus delivered. The meal we had here was the best that we have had in recent times at similarly positioned/marketed restaurants. I like to think of myself as a good amateur restaurant critic and in so many places there is reason to be critical but not on our visit here. I could have happily eaten any dish on their quite extensive menu – it was quite a difficult decision to choose one dish over the others. I was particularly impressed that this restaurant hasn’t chosen to do the far too common ‘classics’. We shared a starter of Korean Sticky Pork Ribs which was done very well, was delicious and the portion size was plenty for 2 people. For mains my partner had the grilled duck breast and I had the chicken burger – I usually avoid burgers in restaurants because they can often be quantity over quality/flavour but I had a good feeling about what I would get here and I can happily say this burger was excellent. Their drinks menu also offers something more interesting than most other restaurants/pubs we have been to. We thought the whole meal represented good value for the service and the quality of the meals. Well done Eat 17 – thanks for a great dining experience. We highly recommend you to others.

We went here for a roast lunch but unfortunately it was a little disappointing. Yorkshire pudding was a dry crispy rock-hard stone and the only vegetable was cabbage? Come on. No carrots or sprouts or broccoli or cauliflower? Sad times. The chicken was decent though to be fair. Underneath the chicken were rock-hard roast potatoes. And that was it. Nothing else. If you’re going to charge £19 for this, at least make sure it’s of good quality or has variety? The worst part though was the apple crumble for dessert. It had the texture and taste of leftover apple sauce. It was a watery mess. This is 2 years in a row now so it’s not a one-off. Such a shame that the quality control is just not there. Maybe I’ll try a 3rd time and that will seal the deal?

Loved the vibe of this place, parmesan chips were delicious. However the chicken burger, I wish I had sent it back, it has an extremely strong seasoning in the coating of the chicken, which I can only feel tastes like curry powder, which was a bit of a hame as everything else was lovely

Our son lives around the corner from the restaurant and we have dined here multiple times when I have visited. The menu always offers plenty of choice with some interesting combinations. Last night we both enjoyed different dishes and all were excellent. I had the scallops with crispy belly pork followed by sea trout, both absolutely outstanding. The basque cheesecake following was fabulous. So much so I’m attempting to produce a replica on Saturday. We shall see!! Staff always efficient and pleasant.

Great service and food, friendly staff, great value

Wanted to sit on a table in the backyard with my girlfriend but we were literally "ordered" to sit on a specific table instead by the rudest waiter I have ever seen. Then Initially lied about those tables being already reserved. When we confronted him why the table we originally wanted to sit doesn't have "reserved" sign like other tables, we were told: "I wanted you to sit here so we don't want to clean up a mess on a further distance table!". I have been told this waiter is a senior employee there. I was a waiter myself. I have never ever seen this level of arrogance in service industry. I see many other similar reviews. With it's service quality, I'm sure this place will eventually catch it's real reputation.

This is a terrific neighbourhood restaurant with good food and good service. Had the goats cheese pie and scallops to start and the flat iron steak for main.

Very nice food but small portions and a limited menu. On a cute street.

After trying for steak and ale pie here it's clear that anything on this menu is going to be a safe bet. My companion's poached egg, bacon and avocado on toast was also a cut above the average.

Atmospheric restaurant situated in the village of Walthamstow with friendly service and good food. I selected the hake cooked with curried chick peas and spinach. It was baked to perfection with a subtle but not overpowering curry flavour. It was a generous portion and presented well. Worth a return visit!

The food is sensational. The duck ragu is an endless cloud of gnocchi and the most flavorful sauce.

Always, always get the delivery wrong on Deliveroo. And Deliveroo are useless and never organise for items to be sent if missing.

Seemingly going downhill with the service. Have visited here a few times, first time the food and service were both fab, second time the food was still lovely but service was very poor. This time we arrived to see if they had space for a walk-in for 4 (early morning so not very busy in the restaurant yet), there were 2 ladies on the bar and both didn’t even bother to acknowledge any of us. Then a waiter through in the restaurant section also saw us waiting and didn’t bother coming over. We stood there for another few minutes before we gave up. Food and atmosphere in the place has always been great but service seems to be going very downhill which is a shame

This place is so nice, we ventured out from our NW6 local area to see what Walthamstow had to offer. Located in the “village”, an enclave of lovely little restaurants and shops only 3 minutes walk from the tube and the hustle and bustle. Our waitress Lauren was fantastic, she’s so kind and really listens to the customer, something rare these days. The menus offer something for everyone and we had burrita, bread, sirloin and mushroom ravioli. Very well executed to preference. The interior is a modern take on an Italian osteria, low ceilings and cozy. Top scores from us globetrotters!

Truly delightful meal. We had the watermelon salad, which was a suprising delight. We had heard the chicken burger was good, but that under sells it. It is simply one of the best chicken burgers you will ever have. The only slight disappointment was the grapefruit margarita, which was far too sweet. Highly recommend thos place.

First time at the restaurant with a friend to celebrate her birthday. Was told by the waiter that the window we asked for is a table for 3 and it had to be reserved. Two women behind came in and the table was given to them 🤷🏽‍♂️. The ravioli was mediocre, no halal option. Overrated place.

Awesome bistro on a lovely pedestrianised street. I had sausages in a brioche bun, with breakfast sauce, which was utterly delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. Highly recommended.
