Great value for money hotel, the room was very spacious for one. The bathroom was also good, my only issue was with temperature controls on the shower, it was either very cold or red hot. Would stay here again though due to the location, convenience and value.

I arrived much earlier than expected, the staff was very friendly, very helpful and found a solution very quickly! The room was very nice and clean! The food in the hotel is very, very good! There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel, it couldn't be better. An ideal hotel, here you will find peace, good food in a nice atmosphere, also outside in the beer garden and very nice and, above all, helpful staff. I will stay here every time I stay in London in the future and I have already booked here again. Thank you for the pleasant stay.

A friend and I needed a bed for a night before moving into our temporary flat while on placement in the hospital in Leytonstone. Quite last minute we decided to book into the Sir Alfred Hitchcock Hotel so that come Monday morning we wouldn't have to travel far into work. They had no problems putting us up last minute and were really welcoming on arrival. The hotel is easily accessible by car with parking out back - this was how Becky arrived. And is also easy to find and walk to from the station which was how myself and my boyfriend got there. On arrival I was able to change my booking from a single to a double room with no qualms. We were checked in quickly and given the keys to the front door of the entrance to all room and our own room. The room was more than spacious for an over night stay. A double bed, adequate wardrobe space, television, kettle, and hair dryer were provided in the room. All rooms are ensuite and ours was through a door in the bedroom and down a few wooden steps into a sunken, fully tiled bathroom with large shower and towels on the radiator. They also include a full English breakfast from 8 am for every room. The bar downstairs serves food but closes early in Sunday! Don't get caught out like we did. The bar staff are a little slow on service but we were in no rush. There are outdoor and indoor seating areas. However the outdoor views are of an open space in Epping Forest so much more preferable. This is not exactly a holiday location but is extremely convenient for links into and out of London.

So I thought I'd book a table here, for Valentine's Day, after passing it on several occasions as I'm local to the area.We were greeted with smiles on arrival and shown to a table in the window. A cold, but good spot as far as the choice allowed.I immediately felt a slightly tense atmosphere as the older couple nearest us were silent. The 'restaurant' felt like it doubled as the very much dated layout of the breakfast room to the hotel with the staff congregating behind the self service area. The staff were, on the whole, worse than poor. As we waited to order we witnessed the waitress roll her eyes as the above couple asked for the dessert menu (one would've assumed they were sending a dish back for the 14th time from her reaction). They also asked twice what flavour the cheesecake was, only to be repeatedly barked at, that it was 'just cheesecake' it arrived late as they were told it was 'still cooking' ?? We still hadn't ordered though giggled at the inappropriate staff. The food is overpriced for the standard though fits within an hotel price range. We ordered a portion of garlic bread to share to start which tasted like part baked bread cut then pasted with some sort of margarine and fresh garlic mix spread over it. I ordered the Sirloin medium rare for main course though it came over cooked for my liking. I'd have mentioned it to the waitress had she bothered to check if we we were ok or needed anything and although the restaurant wasn't full I didn't have a knife until after the meal was served. The condiments were already laid out which is fine for those that you pour, however the leftover food already in the mustard jar was off putting and I'm sure would contravene some hygiene regulations. The menu on the whole was poor. Needless to say we won't be back in a hurry and I had to take my wife somewhere else to make up for there poor experience. All in all a waste of time and money. Sir Alfred Hitchcock will I'm sure be getting dizzy from turning over in his grave!

The Sir Alfred should be a great place for Sunday lunch, it's in an excellent location overlooking Epping Forest and is of course associated by name with one of the UK's great film directors. Unfortunately the waiting staff in the restaurant (can't comment about the hotel) are really poor. They just don't seem to know what they are doing. I've been there about four times in the last year and only once have I received good service. However today was particularly abysmal. After walking in and saying hello to the only member of staff about, an attractive young eastern European lady, I was then ignored for several minutes by her. Another waitress (a young black lady) popped in and seemed friendly and more attentive, promptly taking my order. After a very lengthy wait, made worse by the dreadful pop music being played, the food arrived. It didn't appear to be the roast that I ordered, so I questioned this with the waitress (the young black lady) who simply told me it was, giggled and walked away. The restaurant had a new Hitchcock inspired menu so perhaps they were trying something different? The food was actually fine, so I tucked in. About two minutes later there was a heated discussion at the counter and it appears that I was given the wrong meal. Rather than come over and apologise and offer me the correct meal, I was instead scolded by an older blonde East European lady, who I assume is the restaurant manager, for not telling the waitress that it was the wrong meal (I had!). This created a slightly awkward vibe. I therefore intended on eating up quickly and getting the bill. The bill came and I paid up quickly and waited for my change. It never came, so I questioned the young black waitress who had taken the money. She then sought to argue with me about whether or not I should receive any change - this is the same lady that messed up my order - she tried to argue that a lower amount was due - I pointed out this was incorrect. She duly came back with the correct amount and dumped it on the table. No apology, not from her or anyone else. A shocking way to treat a paying customer from the locality. I won't be going back.

We chose this hotel because we were looking for a hotel where we could easily park (not just for the people who arrived and parked first) - there is ample car parking at both the front and the back of the hotel, which is all free. We also chose this hotel because it has free wifi in the hotel / rooms. The hotel overlooks Epping Forest at the front, has a lovely view of east London from the rear of the hotel and there is a bus stop right outside. If you are looking for a very reasonably priced hotel in London, then this is one to consider. If you are looking for a 'chain' type hotel or the equivalent of a 'posh' hotel then this isn't the hotel to choose - it's a well priced hotel that represents good value. Yes, most of the staff are foreign and yes, sometimes things do get 'lost in translation' - something you have to accept, most importantly the staff are friendly. The breakfast was amazing, cooked just for you and we ate twice in the restaurant - the portions are huge and the quality and choice on the menu are outstanding. The chef works very hard to deliver consistently good quality food. A good vibe in the bar in the evening.Represents good value!

Service was good and the manager came to check on us several times to make sure everything was OK. He was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We all ordered steaks which were perfectly cooked and so so tasty, served with fries, onion rings and vegetables - absolutely delicious. This is the first time I visited the restaurant and so glad I did. Came on a Friday evening and on arrival were promptly seated. Atmosphere was great and welcoming, with a warm homely feeling. Menu was quite limited but adequate enough for a local pub. Portion sizes are huge and certainly filling. The steak option came with a variety of sides (chips, salad, grilled veg, onion rings) and was certainly worth the £13. The only downside was the lack of seasoning to the steak itself.Service overall was ok but could do with improvement, as was slightly slow at times (bringing drinks to the table, getting the bill). Overall, a lovely little local gem that I will certainly visited again.

Update: October 2024. I recently heard that this place may be closing. My friend thought it was to do with cost of living etc. if that’s the case it’s a real shame for the road and the area. These guys were amongst some of the original businesses to open, and change the character of the area. I hope they are ok and can reinvent themselves and the brand. Been going to this place for years and it really has changed the face of Orford road and been a big part of why the area has come up so much. The breakfast on a w/e is decent. And their Chicken Buirger is ace too. The staff are always friendly.....the only thing to bear in mind is that you might need to book as it get's poretty busy at w/e and busy times.

I ordered fish and chips and a kebab portions were vast ,would have one fish and chips for two people . Curry sauce thick and gloopy, mushy peas ok. Had to construct kebab myself, pitta not cooked and dry foil container with meat salad in a plastic container and two tiny containers of chilli sauce and garlic sauce. They didn’t ask me what sauces I wanted or salad and just gave me it all in a bag even though I was standing there waiting for twenty minutes, so fish and chips good but vast , kebab dry and diy, I don’t live in London so was a bit surprised at £40 bill, I did order medium portions .

What an experience - A six course Latin American taster in a refurbished 1967 Victoria tube train that was amazing. From the unique environment to the authentic food made by the Head chef, Beatriz, who explained her inspiration and heritage for each of the dishes. Each plate was beautifully presented without the pretentious nonsense, layers of flavours and textures, which left you wanting more. Service by our waiter, Chris, also added to the overall experience too, which just made it even more special. Food and drinks flowed with ease throughout the evening, as lasted about 2.5 hours. Easy to get to and parking nearby was free after 6.30pm, so safe walking to and from in the dark.
