The Goodwood Bar & Grill in Chichester

The bar staff were incredibly rude and discriminatory. They took one look at me, clearly deciding I didn’t look "posh" enough, and refused to let me dine. They claimed the restaurant was fully booked, even though it was almost completely empty. It was obvious they were judging me based on my appearance.

Mixed Experience at Goodwood Bar and Grill My recent visit to the Goodwood Bar and Grill left me with mixed feelings. With improvements in service efficiency and food execution, it has the potential to better align with its upscale reputation and provide a more satisfying dining experience.

Wonderful food, service generally good but slow at times. Item ordered missing from meal but quickly sorted. Ice and lemon requested but never arrived. Despite this , standard of food was high.

Lovely place to drop in for a drink after a round of golf. Breakfasts were also great and the staff super friendly.

Decent breakfast. The condiment set needed a wipe-over. But the main gripe was that we had to ask for side plates, as the toast was balanced on the side of the plate. No extra knives were offered to butter the toast with and when we asked for jam, we were given a tiny jar to share between us. A tad disappointing.

Absolutely fuming.. we wen with mi girlfriend, staff is so rude , after waiting 10 minutes for a menu, they told me at 11;35 that there is no more breakfast but if i want to order from the lunch menu i need to wait till 12:00. What restaurant dont serve food to the clients.. absolutely shocking the hostess and the whole staff needs to be changed. Please avoid and dont even botter to come

Terrible. Vacuous atmosphere and awful food, but worse the service is the lowest I've experienced in the UK. You're treated as an inconvenience. We stayed at the hotel and for both dinner and breakfast, the kitchen lost our ticket apparently for both meals, so sat waiting an extra hour each time for nothing to arrive. We had v young kids which didn't help. The waiting staff didn't check on us once. They just hid round the corner. Nothing offered to support the kids, had to track down a high chair ourselves. Even when you hunted them down, they didn't solve the problem, just looked confused and dismissive. All other tables seemed to be suffering the same lack of care. Sad that this can't be fixed given the same feedback 8 months ago in these reviews. Awful place. Management clearly have no interest in solving.

I'm a new member. Brought my husband and two friends for lunch at 1pm. Though the place was nearly empty- about 4 clients and the same number of staff, it took an hour for a very basic single course meal to arrive. A nice place when you have a lot of time and want to chat or do some work.

Stopped for a lunchtime break on the way home, after a bit of shopping in Chichester. Pleasant staff. It was a little difficult to find the way in by car and the main entrance to the building from the route we came in, as it shares with the golf club, health centre and the bar and grill. Food was good, service was excellent.

Having not been there for a few years we thought we'd call in after a day out. The Sports Bar has been treated to a revamp which looked quite nice so we had a drink outside first which was quite nice, the bar person was nice & welcoming (note: a 175 ml glass of red wine is £16 though! I expect the bottle only costs them £10) then we thought we have something to eat. Big mistake as the fish & chips was awful. It used to come as a lovely grate piece of fish with fries in a little basket & crushed, minted peas, but this was battered mushy fish, a few chips & nothing else for £18. My other half had a burger which was about 1 cm thick & not even asked if rare/medium/well done - just cooked and poor quality. This place used to quite good although always expensive but now it's just awful & the staff are more interested how they look than being attentive to customers. Will never bother going there again!

Avoid, avoid, avoid. The experience couldn’t have been worse if they’d tried. Service was zombie-like, food was a combination of reheated tripe and salad which had gone off, and the atmosphere was non-existent save for some music which should be illegal anywhere other than a bar in Ibiza. And the real kick in the proverbial was when the rather large bill arrived with the discretionary tip already included. I was desperately looking for the exit by then so promptly paid and left, thankfully never to return. Avoid!

You know when you go to a place and feel you are looked down on - thats how I felt. On top of that waited 20+ minutes for "Goodwood Cheese & Ham" which I to remind them about. I may have not spent lots of money, but first impressions to me count - I may in the future have been considering a spa treat for my wife - not now. Flask of coffee for future visits for me and sons junior golf.

Amazing food and very helpful, across the board. From the Receptionists to the Stewards and the Front Of House, via the amazing Chefs & Waiting Staff. OMG, the Cauliflower steak!

Only used the bar here, so no experience of the food. A selection of brand beers and locally brewed beers.

Im a member having just had a swim. This bar lounge is currently being refurbished but I was given a lovely filter coffee takeaway in the lounge further up. Thank you staff, you always smile and are very efficient.

Superb local produce. Opted for chefs recommendations and we were not disappointed. Will be back!

Nice atmosphere and fantastic view of the park golf course, exceptional breakfast, and superb lunch, I do recommend the Burger, 100% meat from the Goodwood farm. Skilled Barista provided a fantastic cappuccino, and in the afternoon, to compliment the burger, we had a superb beer (lucky leap) Goodwood's own beer.

I was only picking up my grand daughter from a lesson, but was nice to sit in the sun, and have a drink, lovely surroundings, friendly staff, what's not to like!? 🤷

Terrible food, and even worse service, shocking for the prices they charge

Stopped at Goodwood Golf and Spa to charge our EV. Friendly and helpful staff, nice food and a good selection of drinks. The burger was great, and the boys loved the honeycomb brownie...def worth a visit if you're in the Chichester area.

The food was good the service was good and on a par with many of the local pubs. What was disappointing weres the surroundings it felt somewhat shabby and a little unkempt which was rather surprising with how long it has been closed over the past 18 months. Carpeting was grubby and the other floors and table felt sticky.

Like all things Goodwood - excellent, but at a price

Beautiful setting with friendly and attentive staff. Food was nice but not (in my opinion) value for money.

Really enjoyed visiting this. The staff, venue and location are good However there was a negative as one of our group was a vegetarian and the veggie breakfast was really pitiful. Compared to the meat breakfast which had multiple sources of protein the vegetarian breakfast only had a single egg! With no other source of protein. There was a vegetable sausage but it was the type without protein. Feels like the place doesn't understand the needs and likes of vegetarians which is a little surprising given other aspects were so good. Our dog got 2 beautifully large sausages which was excellent. The meat eaters got multiple protein sources in the breakfast: large sausage, bacon, black pudding and an egg ! Which made the veggie version look really pitiful. This is a problem for us and friends as there is always at least one or two vegetarians in our group of friends and just means we couldn't really plan visits here knowing they are so poorly catered for. Really hope they read their reviews and set about improving their offer to vegetarians. Staff were very helpful and we did live the venue otherwise.

Great place to meet for a quick and tasty meal. Local ingredients and a simple menu. Cheerful staff and a good wine list. Some dishes can be a little pricy with smaller portion sizes hence only 4 stars.

Good service, food and sensible Covid precautions.

Awful. There were at least 4 staff, very few customers but we sat for 15 minutes with no service. I went into the bar to find someone and was told to sit down as it was table service only. Told we couldn't have cake at 3.30pm because it was still being cooked and anyway cake was not served until 4.00pm. Asked at 3.50 if they could ask the chef what the cake was. We were told it was coffee and walnut so we ordered 2 pieces. It was served at exactly 4.00pm and was fridge cold. A really disappointing experience and quite disgraceful that we were told the cake was being baked whereas it was just taken out of a chiller cabinet.

Lovely food warm friendly staff

Taken in isolation, the Bar and Grill's score would be and easy Four Stars but when placed along side the other offerings from the Goodwood Estate, they over promise and under deliver. The food is expensive for what it is, given the afore mentioned choices nearby. The food is not bad, just outclassed locally. The other offerings have the readily apparent, and fastidious touch, of Lord March. The Bar and Grill seems to be motivated by revenue than by the experience for it's customers. Every year the biscuits provided with the coffee get a little smaller, the size of side dishes reduces in generosity, the staff get a little more distant and formal. Re-arranging the furniture does not a refurbishment make! Conversely, they make a great effort around Christmas, it's just a shame that, once the watchful eye of the boss is on to the estate's more premium offerings the unhappiness of the staff and constantly changing management is obvious.

It used to be amazing... What happened? Really disappointing food today. Over cooked food. Such a shame. And really disappointing children's meals. Please get the quality back goodwood!

The food on FoS day was truly awful we sent it back and left.

A very nice place to stop for a meal and a drink. Nice views out over the gold course, and an outside terrace. Great food using a lot of produce from the Goodwood estate. Service was excellent too.

Used this bar whilst attending the Goodwood festival of speed. The place is great but the service was slow and very poor. The staff had obviously never seen a busy bar before.

Went to the bar and grill Sunday evening of Goodwood. Menus were not very good and no chips were being served tonight Served as a take away meal with wood knives and forks. Would not eat there again. Enquired about restaurant food but was just tapas. Very disappointed would not recommend.

Good facilities. Food well presented. Loungers a bit suspect....but being addressed by the staff.

Had relaxing drink after 18 hole's

Not what it used to be sadly, healthy, vegetarian options poorly catered for. Previously used to eat twice a week, but have stopped altogether as the service has become so bad, and food options so limited Prices have increased disproportionately, and discount reduced for members. Which is sad for a members club, we would use much more if it was all a bit more equitable.

Visited with my wife and 2 very good friends on 23rd November for lunch. The fish and chips were possibly the best we have ever had. The fish was lovely and chunky and cooked to perfection. Attentive and friendly staff added to the enjoyment of the visit.

Not the best experience, cloudy beer and vegetarians are not well catered for.

Beautiful outside terrace in sunny weather but let down by terrible service (slow with items repeatedly forgotten), limited menu, pathetically small portions & chlorinated tap water. Had a cream tea there yesterday and they forgot to bring the tea and the jam!
