A great venue with such a nice vibe. I've only been there for good shopping not to stay and eat. There is a refill shop with loads of great options. A lovely fruit and veg stall. An excellent butcher and baker. I will definitely go there in the future to eat and have some drinks as it looks like a lovely venue for that.

We took the train from London to Canterbury and were really hoping to find somewhere nearby to eat. The Goods Shed is located right next door, a quick and easy walk from the train station. Inside there are various restaurants and a farmers market with fresh fish, meats, produce from the local area. What an incredible bit of luck! We also came in when we were getting the train back to London a week later. Both times we were here. We enjoyed good coffee, great food, a wonderful atmosphere. There's a decent amount of parking, and they have three individual bathrooms that are well stocked and clean!

Nestled within the lively atmosphere of the farmers’ market, this restaurant is a true hidden gem. It perfectly captures the charm of British market dining—casual yet full of character, with a wonderful sense of ease amidst the bustling surroundings. The service is warm and attentive, making you feel right at home. The food? Simply outstanding. Every dish is crafted with the freshest ingredients, sourced straight from the market next door. There’s no gap between the stalls and your plate—just top-quality produce, skillfully prepared by talented chefs. Yes, the prices are a bit on the higher side, but trust me, it’s worth every penny. An absolute must-visit!

What an amazing find! As the owners describe, a Restaurant on a mezzanine within an old railway goods shed that hosts a brilliant market during the day. Everyone who attended us was extremely well versed on the content of your plates and cocktails and took pride in helping you navigate their offerings to ensure your satisfaction. I was particularly impressed with the exact measurements quoted for an Amaretto Sour which alluded to the fact they even made some of the content in house! The tables are not only nicely spread out but of a good size too. How often do you go to restaurant and have enough space for water, wine, cocktails, bread and your dinner setting? It is normally a point of annoyance for me but not here; there is loads of room. And then, there is the food. How inventive are these people! Really well balanced flavours that had the 'foodies' of our party guessing the content then being surprised when told what was actually in the recipe. They regularly change their menus and use local produce that is in season and let's face it, Kent produces great quality produce so you get really spoilt here. When in Canterbury or even close, book well in advance for a fairly priced dining experience you will talk about for years later. We loved it.

Good ingredients, variable menu. Starters were all excellent, but only the meat mains were high quality, in our experience. Butter knives to cut said meat also not ideal! We liked the extensive drinks menu with local options. I had halibut for a main, the cut was average especially for the price. It came swimming in a butter sauce, and both side options were with butter. Plus butter with the bread (a nice addition, good loaves with info on the table) and scallop starter served on curry butter (this was a great dish). So much butter. I didn't feel full after, but unwell! I'm sure this isn't the case every day, but maybe some more variety from the menu setters..? It is an old building it's not very warm in winter. Also the toilets are very run down, at least a working lock would be nice..? I don't think I'd go back for the price, maybe a short visit in summer. Worth trying to see especially if you're a meat eater, I think.

Who tasted it in the kitchen? Then lamb done really badly, my leg of lamb as home cook a lot better two weeks earlier I cooked. As a group of five, noone happy. But typical Brits we said nothing at the time. Sorry owners sort your shit out. Other dishes issues but I'll not write more. My husband and I had an enjoyable meal and we loved and cannot fault the attentive service, atmosphere and the rustic setting. Unfortunately, for us the food lacked zing and we can only put it down to the constricted choice for vegetables with our main dishes, the options of sides on the menu was either a green salad or pink fir potatoes in garlic butter. This seems strange and a wasted opportunity bearing in mind the restaurant is right next to a farmers market that sells all manner of locally produced vegetables. What better way to promote local vegetable produce but by having even one or two other green/root vegetable based side options with the main dishes?

Lovely place to dine or shop from local businesses - all in close proximity to the train station. We seemed to have visited on a particularly busy day, as they only had one table available for walk-ins (us). The kitchen seemed a bit overwhelmed as our food took forever to arrive, and we ended up dining there for 2.5 hours. Something to keep in mind if you're on a tight schedule. The food was great! We really enjoyed the confit pork belly, and we thought the mint butter paired really well with the pink fir potatoes. Didn't realise the 'roast chicken' was a salad when we ordered, but it was still pretty good.

We visited Canterbury in early June, and were recommended The Goods Shed for a unique lunch destination. We were shown to our seats by a member of staff, who ascertained that we hadn't pre-booked, which wasn't a problem as there were tables available, and whilst waiting for our server, I noticed a specials board, and stood up to get a closer look. I was then accosted by the manager, and rudely asked if we'd been shown to our seats, or seated ourselves. I replied that we'd been seated by his colleague, and that I was looking at the specials board, he then snapped that they were all on the menu. Fortunately, our server was much more polite than the manager. After our main meals, the same manager, came to the table and without a word, put down dessert menus, and left. I would not recommend this venue based on the service we received from this individual. The food was adequate. The historic and interesting venue was the best part of the visit.
