The Good Life Cafe in Weymouth and Portland

Lovely home cooked food and good portion sizes. Waiting staff very attentive and friendly and checked to ensure we had everything we needed. A good lunch time visit and full bellies. Recommend a visit if your passing and avoid the food chains.

Called in today and ordered the egg and bacon burger with chips each. After a fair wait the food arrived and it looked lovely. After removing the top of the brioche we discovered that the eggs were very undercooked with transparent whites covering them. The bacon was ok. However, the burgers were just tepid and unappealing. The manageress asked the room if everything was ok. We nodded because we were too polite to complain in front of other customers. I did mention the issues when we paid at the counter. The manageress questioned why we did not mention this earlier. She also defended her food quality saying the burger had just come off the griddle. We paid the full price as requested, then left hungry. We are now enjoying lovely food at a pub in Abbotsbury. What a pity we will not be returning to Good Life.

Nice location overlooking seafront. Good selection of lunches and cakes. Reasonably priced. Great staff.

I visited the good life last weekend for a cream tea for my sister in laws baby shower. There was a really nice selection of sandwiches which were all really nice. The cakes were absolutely stunning. Good variety of drinks on offer on top of the complimentary tea / coffee which comes with the cream tea. I would revisit here.

Visited for a cream tea and a milkshake. So disappointed ☹️ shop bought scones , only fruit offered, no plain scones. Horrible jam in a plastic tub and clotted cream again in a throw away plastic tub, absolutely nothing traditional about it at all. The milkshake claimed to have ice cream in it ? Tasted nothing like banana and was as thin as normal semi skimmed milk and wasn’t even ice cold so definitely no ice cream. Sadly won’t be returning when so many other lovely cream teas on offer in Weymouth

I was a little disappointed to say the least, I appreciate it was the end of the day and they were about to close but I thought it was a little on the expensive side and while I was under the impression it was going to be homemade sausage roll, it wasn't. I also understand that it is the end of the season but it was just disappointing

We visited Weymouth early October so slightly out of season, but enjoyed an excellent English breakfast in this cafe which overlooks Weymouth beach and promenade. The cafe had a family atmosphere, the staff were welcoming, and the excellent breakfast was prepared quickly. I strongly recommend this cafe. .

Great for a wide good variety from breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas. Was treated to an afternoon tea at the good life. Nothing was too much trouble, had catered for our needs, even down to my favourite cake and request for brown bread. They were right on it from us walking through the door. Was so much, tasty and fresh even Had to take some cake home . Thank you very much

This is a family run business which provides excellent service and a wide range of excellent food. It is busy but staff are always friendly and welcoming. We went for lunch on this occasion and had liver and onions which you don't often see on menus, it was excellent! There is a wide range of options available, from sandwiches to meals, our tea was served in a vintage teapot with vintage cups and saucers. The Café also serves breakfast and afternoon tea. Highly recommended.

Do not recommend was not given what we asked for ! Afternoon tea was poor! The bread was stale, we requested no fish, but got salmon sandwich also requested plain sandwiches but put mustard in them, then when complained was replaced with stale bread sandwiches. Reserved a table by the window to look over the sea as mums 60th birthday treat and was not given that at first but then got resolved but put in a room by ourselves upstairs. The girls were nice and apologetic, however the manager on the other hand did not care whatsoever about these problems when spoke to at the end, he was the one that we reserved with and put our requests into in the first place

Been here years ago and was good then but returned for breakfast this Saturday and we were all so pleased with our breakfasts. I can honestly say it’s 10 times better. The large fry up is the best I’ve had for years and years, my son’s eggs royals was “the best ever” and the grandkids loved the breakfast bagel. Lisa (the owner) was really nice and attentive. We returned Sunday morning for the same as it was that good.

Had lunch here two days on trot. Crab sandwich was fantastic as was my wife’s omelette. The staff were great even though they were rushed off their feet and service was first class. Will definitely use this place again.

We had our annual afternoon tea visit with the family. Positives: the accommodated our party of 8 from a walk in. The tea was nice The building was nice & the tea pots etc were all nice The views from the windows were nice Negatives: Appeared to be mass produced scones they were small & rather dry certainly not home made Cheap jam served in unessesary plastic pots One single scone is not enough especially when so small No butter provided clearly this establishment has changed hands as other years have been good

A great lunch, about the best we have had during our holiday in Weymouth. A delicious crab salad with good quality drinks. Well done!

We love to use the Good Life Cafe whenever we are in Weymouth, and have never been disappointed. the food is excellent, the staff friendly and even better its doggy friendly. you may even get a table with views of the beach, some of the best in Weymouth. I can't think of a better place to grab some great food with a cuppa while relaxing looking out to sea.

The views from this cafe were great for looking out onto the seaside during our cream tea but the hot drinks didn't arrive until we had to ask a staff member halfway through eating, as no one came to check on us. During eating, Lisa, who we believe to be the manager/owner, sent one of the staff home early and then proceeded to talk to the other staff about how bad the girl is as an employee in front of customers. Overall the food was ok, nothing super special, but the portion sizes were small compared to the price and we had to remind them that we had ordered drinks too. All of the younger staff who served us were helpful, but we probably wouldn't go back

We visited for an impromptu lunch. It’s decor is oldy worldy which is lovely. We had ham and cheese sandwiches which were freshly made and delicious. The afternoon teas looked very appealing but maybe another time!! Staff were friendly and chatty.

We were lucky to get a spot here for lunch - many were turned away and for that we were grateful. The staff were young and friendly and the food all looked delicious, and home made too.I would have given it five stars but there were a few tiny little things that weren't quite right - not enough to make our lunch a bad experience, but just not perfection. The staff were very busy and were doing their best.It took a long time to order our food and we had finished our drinks about 40 minutes before the food arrived. I had ordered a panini which arrived and the cheese wasn't melted so I asked for it to be done some more. This was done happily without a fuss which was great. Husband's sausage panini arrived with deliciously melty cheese and he had nearly finished his before the teenagers' food (and my reheated food) arrived, which was hard to bear. The girls shared a panini and were happy with theirs.We then had a scone - absolutely delicious, gently warmed through, lovely and tender and perfect with a massive dollop of clotted cream. I would recommend you come here, the food was very good but you wouldn't want to be in a rush.

Reserved a table for afternoon tea and as requested had a great table overlooking the sea front. There is great potential here but a few things let it down from getting higher rating whch on their won wouldn't have been an issue. But with a few refinements could be very good. On arrival two people were unaware of our reservation but that was soon clarified, shown to the table and left for quite a while before our order for tea was taken. Surprisingly for a cafe they couldn't do tea with lemon (seemed like the waitress hadn't heard of such a request before!). Table was nicely set out with matching bone china cups, saucers and plates but tea served in bog standard tea pots - matching sets would have been top marks - after all this is afternoon tea :) Sandwiches and scones were great, and two slices of cake were provided so plenty to eat. Only let down was the coffee and walnut cake was dry and the icing quite hard as if it had been standing for a while wthout being covered. All in all still a nice treat, just not quite the finesse that often goes with afternoon tea.

Very friendly staff, good honest well-priced food and we were lucky to have the best window seat too. Enjoyed it all while watching the waves crash onto the beach in a recent storm.

Had some lovely sandwiches here for a takeaway. Beautifully made up in a little box with coleslaw and salad and knife and fork. Lovely bread and fillings. Service was excellent. They also do eat in. Would definitely recommend.

We popped in for a quick coffee ahead of a walk on the beach and felt compelled to try some of the cakes on offer - opting for a scone and the coffee & walnut cake. All absolutely delicious, with still warm scones and the view from the window is stunning on a sunny day.

very run down outside, old posters, crumbling old paint. but decided to give it a try based on good reviews. Went in and was met by a rude lady who abruptly told us there were no tables and made us feel an inconvenience we were left feeling rather confused and upset about how we were approached, yes they may have been busy but we were almost told to go away. We ended up going to the Black Dog around the corner, the staff here couldn’t have been more attentive and were extremely welcoming.
