Oh dear we now have to find a new place for Sunday lunch , which is a real shame as we liked The Golden Star ! But we went recently and the belly pork roast dinner was truly awful . It was nothing like how belly pork is cooked . Nothing g crispy about the outer edges . There was no top to speak of as it was a roll ! Didn’t look like a belly pork piece of meat . My husband couldn’t and wouldn’t eat it . We called over the bar tender who didn’t really know what to say . They did remove the pork meal from the bill ! But we would much rather have sat to a nice Sunday lunch . Won’t be going back . Wondered why pub was empty

Tbh I liked this place like I did low key pub with nice regulars…but man the service could be just rude at times for no real reason, went today and asked for a drink ..I accidentally interrupted the bar tender and she gave the worst attitude in response…better pubs abiut with better service wouldnt waste my time going back here

We sometimes frequent Mary's quiz on a Sunday at the Golden Star. A good old fashioned boozer with a fine selection of ales and fun bar staff. Hopefully they're going to start having good quality live music and get Mister-Pink in there which will mean the place will be even more lively.

Went in for shelter and a drink. No food on this night but chatting to the landlady. She recommended a place around the corner which was doing food. Lovely, proper pub, staff really friendly and welcoming, we went back after dining for a drink to thank them. Would definitely recommend a visit if in Norwich.

Popped in ta one of our favourite pubs on a Saturday evening where a themed party was going on. There was a small disco in the corner being largely ignored. The landlady seemed blind drunk and seemed to have upset lots of customers. who were quite disgruntled. There was a very tense feel and the bar staff looked uncomfortable. It felt more like the Prince of Wales Road. Such a shame as this traditional pub used to have such a lovely atmosphere.

Sadly declining under new management. They've lost lots of staff and are no longer doing food. The welcome is very variable and staff can be rude. The range of beers remains good but prices are some of the highest in the city. It's a shame as this place used to be a real gem.

A sweet little pub near Norwich Uni Art Department. We went on a Saturday lunchtime and although it advertised food, there was no food available, which was disappointing. We went back 'early evening' for another drink and there was a really nice 'vibe' to the place. It was clear that there were several locals in and it had a nice friendly atmosphere. There was a good selection of beers and the service was friendly and relaxed. We parked in the multi storey car park a minutes walk away.

I went recently into the Golden Star for a nice drink. I had fond memories of coming to this pub in the 1970s/80s when I was a young man. In those days it was a lovely, welcoming place to be. Sadly I can no longer say it is either friendly or welcoming. I ordered my drink from a lady who glared at me and uttered not one word. When I requested a refill, she became rather hostile. At this point, I told her she had been rude and unhelpful to me. She retorted that, on the contrary, I had been rude to her and, furthermore, invited me to drink elsewhere if I wished! I was so shocked and disappointed by this response - which was totally uncalled for - that I took her advice and left. I certainly have no plans to return in a hurry - which is a great pity.

This used to be a lovely pub but I had been warned that it had changed hands and the new landlady was less than accommodating. I wish I had heeded that warning as we did not have a pleasant experience. The pub is indeed dog friendly, which is why we chose it - what it is NOT is kid friendly. Myself and my friend had our 12 year old boys with us. It was not late in the evening, they were not running about or being noisy, they caused no issues whatsoever. Between us we spent over £100 on dinner and drinks. As soon as our plates were cleared the landlady came over to ask when we were leaving because she had people waiting for the table. It was not particularly busy so there was plenty of seating at the bar. I replied that we wouldn’t be long. She didn’t stop there, asking whether we thought we’d be less than an hour. We left after that and will not be returning. The food was good and the chef was lovely, coming out to offer my son a different sauce for his meal because I had ordered it without mayo. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to make up for the rest of the experience.

We hadnt been back here in a while, but decided to go for sunday lunch. It was very good. The set up is different, there are no longer family service with the veg and cauliflower cheese which was very nice. Its now all served up on the plate. And its a little bit more pricey now, but its worth it. They also do other things on the menu on a sunday now and its no longer just a roast. The chicken wings and chips looked good. Familiar bar staff were back which was nice. The pub is old fashioned but thats why we go there, its a proper “ old school pub”no loud music or tv’s Its fabulous Booking is advised for lunch, if you 100% want to able to get sunday lunch.

Booked at table for a Friday night - 6 of us and a high chair. We were really eager to try out Bun X heritage. We didn’t manage to. We turned up for our booking to very unwelcoming bar staff - it was busy which was fine so we ordered drinks and then were directed to our table. Our table was round the back, but arranged so that not all of our party could sit down at the same time. Two of our party needed to constantly get up to let people go to the toilet as our chairs blocked the gangway. When we questioned the bar staff about our booking we were met with unhelpful responses saying that we had the only table available. When we reminded them that we had booked, and told them about our need for the high chair as well the response was a shrug. I’m not quite sure how they expected us to eat as a table of 6 when only 4 could actually sit down. Needless to say, we left pretty quickly. This did mean that at about half past 7 on a busy Friday night, 2 days before Christmas, we were left trying to find somewhere else to eat. Bun X Heritage messaged my friend by 20 past 8 that evening with an apology. Obviously they were expecting our order but that never came. Will not be returning to the Golden Star in the foreseeable future which is a shame.

I hadn't been in this pub for decades as I'd lived abroad for many years. In the 70's this was the home of Camra, the Campaign for real ale and was full of large men with beards, beer bellies, roll-ups and leather pouches for their tobacco and various sundry items. Ahh those halcyon days... These days, it's still a great pub but now they do very good burgers, I think from BunX but I'm not sure, Possibly ex-BunX and set up on their own, I can't remember. Anyway, they're bloody good! Excellent range of beer as always and bar billiards, always a bonus. A proper good old pub, keep up the excellent work.

Service was terrible, booked a table for 6 and we were sat on a table where not everyone was able to sit down the whole time as if someone in the pub needed a toilet then two people on our table needed to stand up. Bar maids were rude and didn’t care so we ended up leaving and going to junkyard round the corner for food. I was looking forward to trying the burgers but won’t bother going back after this experience.

The pub looks the same thank goodness but i knew something was different when i called up to book. You cant book by ringing the pub direct now , you have to ring Blue at The Roseberry to make your booking. This was ok. We looked at the menu for the sunday roast and it still has a good selection of roasts, but they have gone up £5. Plus you now pay extra /£4.50 for cauliflower cheese. We hoped that with the extra cost the meal would still be as good - and it was. The veg isnt served separately any more , and is all on the plate. The “ one large carrot” brigade and there isnt lots of veg. But you get a jug of extra gravy on the side which is a nice touch. And the large yorkshire. We ordered the pork and beef and they were both delicious. Both of the lovely ladies were not working who are usually in there. I hope they havent gone. I would say the male and female manager need to calm a little, you could feel their anxiety . Im guessing that will fade when things become more familiar. We will be back.
