Popped in for a drink after a splendid shopping trip. The service was amazing. Michelle the very pleasant bar staff on tonight, was polite, friendly & chatty. ‘Grandad’ the waiter. Delivered our drinks to our table without spilling a drop. Will definitely go again

Stopped off for an evening meal on our back from spending a week in Derbyshire. As a family of four we all ordered something different and all food was cooked to perfection and very generous portions....it was the best peppercorn sauce my husband had tasted! Stacey the landlady was very friendly and accommodating I would definitely recommend Beaus at the Golden shield.

A cold restaurant and on mentioning this the landlady became quite aggressive in her approach. No menu except on blackboards. I didn't mention regarding the quality of the food - burnt garlic bread and also burnt lasagne and the chips were overly greasy as they had been cooked several times. A very dark and intimidating car park and could ideally do with a sensor light to help. The website had said cosy and I think they meant cold and unfriendly (cold atmosphere). I think that the landlady need some people skills and customer service training.

An ok-ish kinda place. Good for stopping off with your pup for a pint as they're dog-friendly :) Nice beer garden.

Having recently moved into Fleckney we were in search of our new local. Didn't take long to find the Golden shield. Great place with fantastic friendly staff, Stacey, the landlady, makes you feel like you're part of the family.. (starts to pour without asking..not sure if that's a good or bad thing ha!) & folks about are very friendly. So, we decided to try their Sunday lunch.....if you haven't tried it yet..what are you waiting for? Food is excellent and hot! We tried the beef and lamb, succulent and plenty of it with seasonal veg and lashings of gravy. Rhubarb and custard with ice cream and profiteroles Mmmmmmmm!!! Finished with filter coffee and cream and mints. No cooking, no washing up and no breaking the bank. Cannot recommend it enough. Book today!!

We visited the Golden Shield on a canal holiday with friends. It was about 15 minutes walk across the fields but well worth the trip. There was a good choice of real ales including Ghost ship and Landlord which are particular favourites of our party. The food was a cut above normal pub grub and offered an extensive menu. I had the moules marinieres and sirloin steak and both were good. Salad and vegetables were also provided. An added bonus was a performance by the Leicester Morris Men. Service was efficient and friendly

Four of us all had different meals which were all fantastic. My steak was the best I have had in years, perfectly done and melted in my mouth. The garlic mushrooms were heavenly ! If I lived closer I would visit frequently. Friendly staff and enough light to see what you are eating for once ! Highly recommended.

We recently visited friends in the Leicestershire area where we came across this little gem. we stopped of for some refreshments and not knowing the area that well we did not know what to expect, Well let me tell you, we had the warmest welcome from the staff who could not do enough for us, We decided to stay for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious, all fresh produce and served with a smile, and at a very competitive price. So if you like a traditional village pub, with plenty of character, and a great selection of beers, wines, soft drinks, good size car park and beer garden, this has got to be worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

I thought we were going somewhere classy, how very wrong we were. Avoid unless you like to eat in a primark.

Lovely place let down by over-priced fish and chips , the chip's were soggy and moderately warm, the fish was not white and flaky but more like frozen brownish fish with greasy batter.

All round very good. Food, service, drinks were great. Waitress advised one of the group could have gammon steak even though it wasn't on the Sunday menu. He was very happy.
