We booked this last minute as the other hotel we stayed at was absolutely disgusting. We read some reviews after we had booked, so wasn’t expecting much. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a young man from behind the bar. He was very polite and informative and told us everything we needed to know. Now, the venue no longer does food as far as I’m aware. They do provide breakfast which was very nice indeed. They have two sister pubs within walking distance that will give 10% off if you show your room key. We stayed in the robin room which is next to the pubs small car park. The room was quite spacious with a good size bathroom. It was clean and equipped with a tv, kettle, iron and board and a hairdryer. We would happily stay there again.

We ordered sandwiches in this pub. The sandwiches were ok but nothing very special. Also we waited long for our food, even pub wasn’t busy.

Don't go full stop, god forbid you hear the fool mouth disgusting language screamed by so called male scruffy cook towards what looks like teeange terrified kitchen helpers and waiting staff, Jesus christ if those were my kids I would drag them to a place of safety and have the so called scruffy bulky of a cook charged with threatening behaviour and have him barred from having anything to do with kids.

1. Was the food delicious? I wouldn't eat here 2. Was the service good? Yes 3. Was there a nice atmosphere? Yes 4. Did it have a beautiful decor? Yes but fading. Felt a bit delapidated. 5. Was it worth the price? Should have been cheaper for the kind of place it is (plastic menus kind of place)

Served by a miserable young lady with blonde hair. Clearly not cut out for hospitality. She was unable to answer simple questions about the menu and was incredibly sulky. The Ploughmans we ordered was ok but uninspiring. Have had much bette elsewhere.

Paid 30 quid for a bottle of rose, and the same for a bottle of white wine for the table. Both absolutely vile, looking online it retails for about 6 quid too (no doubt less if you buy in bulk) so not only a huge mark up but also horrid. Screw cap so unlikely a quality issue. Bar staff seemed annoyed when you wanted to order a drink, overall felt like I had walked into someone’s house and demanded hospitality- very odd place.

I’ll try again as for some reason my review has been removed. Burford is a wonderful Cotswold Town, visited many times but never stayed before. Would never ever stay in this establishment again. Got hardly any sleep due a very loud sound of gushing water every 5-10 minutes. I eventually got to sleep around 6.00am only to be woken up by kitchen staff shouting and swearing at each other, this was confirmed at breakfast by another guest. Breakfast was border line ok but served by a lady that clearly didn’t like her job. No one at reception when I dropped my keys off to express my disappointment!

Really disappointed! 6 of us came for lunch. Was really quiet when we arrived. Ordered all meals and drinks at the same time. At least 40 minutes later 5 meals arrived. Myself and my daughter had the chicken burger, the base of my bun was rock solid and unable to eat and chicken was very overcooked! It also had a really spicy relish in which didn't say about on menu! Halfway through 5 of us eating the 6th meal hadn't arrived! Upon checking we were told it was on way, then for someone to come and tell us the order hadn't been sent to kitchen(ordered all at same time and was read back to us!) so they were just about to start cooking it, they couldn't tell us how long it was going to be so we asked for it to be cancelled as the rest of us would have finished ours meals by time it arrived, staff seemed annoyed by our decision even though this was not our fault! At no point did anyone check how our meals were. Very poor customer service and awful food!

I do hate it when restaurants serve scotch eggs with over cooked eggs and barely cooked sausage .... which was my experience today at Golden Pheasant Please if you're going to have this on menu learn how to cook and present.

AVOID AT all cost,the staff are excellent,but the food was awful,being served cold food is a no no,cold mash and rock hard pie and cold and rock hard peas.Would never set foot in this place again.

We went for dinner on 10 April 2023 1. Meal very good - Good superbly cooked and presented. Also very hot which is refreshing as many places serve lukewarm meals. 2. Good range of drinks at reasonable price. 3. Staff friendly. 4. It was a very cold night and the pub was unacceptably chilly. Spoke to the waitress who was dismissive - she said " this is a cold building and it is what it is. " There were a huge number of cut logs beside an open fire grate and I asked if the fire could be lit - again she was dismissive. We had to keep our coats on the entire time and this spoiled what should have been a pleasant evening.

Visited Sunday afternoon for a drink in this old pub and very nice visit. Staff all around are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. Did not eat but food looked popular. Multiple choices for seating and good range of drinks

We called in for lunch when we read the menu posted on thd high street. Lured in by the promise of a 'Reuben', at a cost of £8.95 from the sandwich menu. 3 of our party of 6 chose this option. What a mistake! What we received was 2 cold dry slices of toast with a wafer thin slice of cooked beef and a smear of something that appeared melted. No sign of Pastrami, no sign of pickles, no dressing of any kind, let alone Russian dressing. This has to be one of the worst lunches I've had. I will not revisit and would advise others to avoid.

We visited the restaurant yesterday, 4th December 2022. We had a great table by the fire and the most delicious roast chicken dinner. I must admit it was the best roast I ever had! I did not want it to finish. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. The only thing that was missing for me was lack of Christmas music. Thank you, we will be back!

Stayed here for business just post lockdown. Lovely bar and dining area with very friendly staff. Had a 12” meat feast pizza and a large glass of Rioja for less than £20. Really tasty - both of them. Well worth a visit.

4 of us dived in here to escape the rain and what a nice surprise! Food was amazing, a warm welcoming atmosphere where nothing was too much trouble. Stopped for Sunday lunch today. Service was fine but the roast beef was awful. VERY CHEWY meat not good value for £14.95 (3 heritage carrots,cauliflower cheese and small amount of cabbage) Had to ask for more gravy. Will NOT be back again

We were looking for somewhere nice to take our Parents and decided to try the Golden Pheasant in Burford. Between us we sampled many different things from both the Regular menu and the 'Specials' Board, I had a perfectly cooked steak that simply melted in my mouth, with skin on fries and side salad that was dressed with a delicious Honey Mustard Dressing. 3 of our party had the Pollock the Lyonnaise Potatoes, Samphire and Caper Berry Buerre Blanc from the Specials Board, all three thoroughly enjoyed their meal, another one of our party had a Freshly made Pizza that looked and tasted amazing and the Fish and chips were a delight too, the piece of fish was huge and was cooked perfectly. The Waitress couldn't have been more attentive and pleasant, she had great knowledge of the menu. There was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant too. Our guests were absolutely delighted with their meal and are looking forward to their next visit

Gorgeous food, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Really loved the spicy parsnip soup for starters and a beautifully cooked steak as my main! Recommended the venison meatballs too! Oh and the burgers!

Waking down the st in Burford looking for some where to eat on a Saturday near Christmas, we decided on the pheasant because prices looked good and had people sitting drinking at the bar, this to me indicates a good place to get a drink.Looking over the menu there was a good mix at good prices. We didn’t need to book and the service was spot on. Would recommend this place to anybody and will return as visit the town often

We had been let down by another restaurant in Witney and the Manager managed to fit us all in for a works Christmas dinner (19 of us). This was a week before we were due to have our Christmas party! We all had fantastic meals and could not fault anything. The food was fantastic and plentiful. Imaginative and very tasty. 10 out of 10 for the chef and his team. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The ambience within the restaurant was lovely. It was warm, friendly and packed with lots of equally happy customers. I have said I will take my husband back for a meal in the New Year. I would definitely recommend The Golden Pheasant. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.

We had a very nice roast dinner on our recent stay in Burford. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. A lovely log fire kept the restaurant warm as it was freezing outside.

Very tasty, well cooked food, we both had the Smoked Haddock with tagliatelle. Staff friendly and very attentive. Drink too expensive even with a Happy Hour from 4-7 the cheapest bottle of wine was expensive.

Whilst visiting Burford my husband and I decided to have lunch here and was pleasantly surprised. We didn't want anything "heavy" so we settled for the gammon sandwich for my husband and I had the fish coujons sandwich. They were both super delicious served in a ciabatta bun together with fries which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The portion was quite big and very filling. A very enjoyable and tasty meal indeed. Will definitely eat here again when in the area.

Had a fab real in here tonight. Wild mushroom soup to start, with fresh crusty bread. The starter was absolutely delicious. My husband had the chowder which he also thought was delicious. We both had pizzas which were also fabulous. Portion size was very generous so had to leave half of my pizza but would thoroughly recommend this place. Wine was also reasonably priced. Good find in a touristy area.

Mientras que allí decidimos tener una comida, ofrecen una "Hora feliz" de 5 pm a 7 pm sus 2 horas realmente a mitad de precio en una botella de vino y una reducción en algunas cervezas. La comida era excelente y el desierto felicitamos al chef por su cocina. El personal es muy amable y alegre. Realmente disfrutamos este restaurante.

I stayed at the Golden Pheasant Hotel for my 30th Birthday weekend with a group of 10 friends. We had 6 rooms between us and each and every room was lovely! We were looked after so well, they let us check in early and greeted us with a warm and friendly smile. The breakfast was superb and the hotel even left me a bunch of flowers in my room as a birthday present which was very sweet and kind. The hotel is in a perfect location in the centre of Burford which is a beautiful little Cotswold town. We chose to use the free car park which is only a 5 minute walk and was no bother. I will definitely be back to stay sometime soon. Thank you to the Hotel for a wonderful stay.

This was a very busy Saturday night and the dining area was packed. At first the waiting staff appeared a little hesitant, but we discovered that the whole menu had been changed 2 days before, and they were still learning their way around it. When the dishes came they were both tasty and nicely presented. The service definitely improved as the night wore on, and the 2 waitresses were absolutely wonderful keeping us updated with the progress of our meals from the kitchen, and be alert to our needs. When we returned next morning to retrieve some lost property they recognised us and immediately handed back our item, saying that they tried to get it back the previous evening but we had disappeared too quickly.

I have been here a few times and enjoyed it but last nights new menu wowed me! Never felt impelled to write a review but the new menu is delicious. Finding a good vegetarian meal in the cotswolds is difficult but this was so good. The service was so friendly as usual but the menu made it change from a pub dinner to feeling like a real treat (without having to spend a fortune!)It’s such a cosy traditional English restaurant but without the stodgey menu of an old English pub. Will definitely be back and bringing my family when I’m next in the cotswolds!

My girlfriend and I went here with her brother and his girlfriend for a dinner. The staff were very helpful and hospitable from the beginning, I always say that good staff make for a great atmosphere. Very warm and welcoming. The food was superb, as expected (recommended by another friend) and we even got to meet the head chef, to compliment him on the great variety in the menu. Our guests were vegetarian, so it was a massive plus for us when they made alterations to a specific item on the menu to ensure that they were catered for. Didn’t need to do that at all to be fair to them. Definitely recommend and will definitely be going again on our next trip around Oxfordshire.

I should have sent it back, but them my wife would be eating her risotto (she; 'I make a better one') alone and me my Sunday roast. The roast was nice but surely the chef and waiter could see that a black 'crown' to a Yorkshire pudding isn't what it should look like. The place was nice and clean and the service good and attentive.

Today we had Sunday Lunch at The Golden Pheasant. We had roast chicken which was ok and also the potatoes but the rest was awful, the Yorkshire pudding was barely warm and the medley of vegetables was dreadful. Despite complaining on more than one occasion we were still expected to pay the full amount.

Basic rooms, bit outdated. We ate in the bar one evening, food was good. Our room did not have an en-suite but had a private bathroom next day to our room for our exclusive use. Bit inconvenient, but we manged for one night. Clean but needs updating.

Not a great experience. Food was mediocre and a key element of the dish was missing - apparantly they had run out. OK, it happens. But should notify the diners either when taking the order in case you wished to select something else or when bringing the dish out. and could the side dish be substituted rather than just omitted? We asked - twice- where it was. Only on the second occasion did we get a response, good job we didn't wait for it or our food would have been cold! The food overall was average and the indifference of the staff very bad. To cap it all, we were given the wrong bill. Again not the end of the world but when we pointed it out to our server, it was simply taken without a single word - not even an oops! sorry - before the correct one was brought over. We live quite close and often eat in Burford but won't be back here again and couldn't recommend it to others.

We recently stopped by for dinner. The pub has great food, fabulous ambience, good service and great location! It’s perfect for a family and couples. This pub is definitely worth a visit for drinks and food which is locally sourced.

Sunday Lunch with friends and enjoyed the meal, but the service was poor. They weren't particularly busy but it was an age before they took our order. The food was slow to be served and after a long delay we went to ask for a sweet menu. Again it was age before they emerged from the kitchen. Pity because the meals and puds were fine.

Popped in for supper when staying in Burford. I had the risotto which was really good and my husband had Hunters Chicken followed by cheesecake. Again both dishes were well received. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Why then only three stars? Well .... I wish I had stopped right there, eaten and left. But no I went to the loo. Let’s just say I hope that the kitchen was not on a par. There has been some money spent here. Modern basins and tiles but sadly the place needed a good clean. Who (in management) has failed to notice that the peddle bins in the cubicles are covered and I mean covered in rust? This looks grim and for the sake of a few pounds could easily be remedied. This was my final impression and it is far from good. So please rally the troops and get this area sorted.

The room is 100 times worse than a travelodge! The room was filthy, smelt damp, dusty, very poor customer service, no manager available, stains on the mattress, missing light shade, rotting wooden window, live spider in the bed and ceiling, dead spider in the bath, the breakfast was near unpalatable, cold tap was a mere tricle, no apology, no refund for the 2nd night, after complaining twice we had our food bill cancelled but only stayed 1 night but had paid for 2 so not much of a confession, the list is endless! Do not stay here! Biggest waste of £180 we've ever spent!

Popped in, no booking, on a Monday night for dinner. Food was good, meat pizza which had a lovely thin and light base and lemon sole from the specials board, absolutely lovely. For desert we shared the apple and plum crumble with vanilla ice cream again really tasty. They have happy hour for cheaper beers and wines, which was a nice touch. The waitresses had a really nice attitude and couldnt have been any more kind or helpful.

Stayed at The Golden Pheasant for one night in the Eider room. Which was a relief to be honest. Nothing in the room worked, the TV/wifi broken, the kettle didn't switch off, the shower was pathetic, and trying to sleep was like lying on the M6. Traffic roaring through the night. My breakfast was fine but my friends was inedible. A breakfast muffin that would have sunk the ducks swimming on the WIndrush. Also their website offers a car park with a cost of £15 for 12 hours. Which fortunately we didn't purchase ...there is a free huge car park 5 minutes away. A big no no from me.

Four of us had lunch using a Travelzoo voucher. Everything was more than satisfactory. Staff pleasant, pints of Tribute and Abbots well kept. Food was very good. The fact that it was busy is a positive indicator that this was a place to come to.

We went here on a travelzoo 2 course voucher offer. The meals were hit and miss and the mIn course of vegetarian gnocchi was the size of a large starter and despite raising this with the waitress and her manager, the response of “well, that’s the way we serve it” was quite disappointing.

A two course lunch with friends proved very successful. Although some of the surroundings are a little tired the food could not be faulted. We all had different dishes but the comments were all similar - delicious. We will all return in the knowledge that we will eat well. Recommended.

Tasty food! However, what made the meal special was the care and friendliness of the wait and bar staff - so to those of you on duty Saturday January 5th, thank you for making the evening so pleasant! We had a table reserved by the window, the waitress explained things carefully and nicely to us and we just had an enjoyable evening. Many thanks.

We had the gammon egg and chips and the steak pie and chips. No sign of a vegetable other than the potatoes. Very chunky chips. Pie looked home made and very tasty, gravy tasted a bit of Bovril but was okay.

Mum and I popped in for an afternoon drink whilst visiting Burford. We also came back later in the evening simply because we fell in love with the armchairs in the back room - so comfy!

La comida era aceptable, raciones enormes pero mal presentadas y servidas. Una acogedora posada en una tarde fría y húmeda, pero no creo que opte por volver a comer allí. . . . . . . . . . . . . . tomar una copa o dos es probablemente una mejor opción.
