Thatched, free house, enough parking and a convivial welcome. Perhaps a little dark but hospitable and cosy. Well kept ale.

Lovely roast here, welcoming landlord and a hearty fire. This was a real treat in such a cold April.

Popped over from a short stay in Northlew , (where the Green Dragon pub was also extremely hospitable ) ...... and found the Golden Inn on the corner . The landlord was friendly , engaging and helped while away a dreary , rain-soaked evening

My partner and I visited whilst camping nearby as we thought we would visit the local pub for some food and a few drinks. When we arrived we found out that no food was on due to an unfortunate fire that had recently destroyed the kitchen so we thought we'd stay for one drink and move on. However, due to the landlord and the regulars all being so friendly and chatty one drink turned into several and we ended up staying the whole night and had a lovely evening enjoying great company. I can't comment on the food of course but the 5 stars is well deserved as its a lovely, traditional pub in such a lovely area. Can't wait to visit again and look forward to the kitchen being sorted so we can try out the food! Nikki.

Whilst on holiday we found this pub on route to our holiday cottage in highampton. Pleasant staff, average food. The pub was too dark & it smelt weird.

On holiday in area so called in for Sunday lunch. Really enjoyable - good size portions, well cooked and reasonably priced. Service was good - surpised we were the only diners. Bar staff and locals very pleasant, so appears to be a good establishment to visit for a pint if you live locally.

While driving along the A3072 between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy we spotted this pub and as it was near dinner time we thought we'd give it a go. We were greeted by a friendly (Swedish) bar maid who seemed very chatty and good at keeping customers connected and looked after. They only had Fullers London Pride as a real ale, so I chose Guinness instead. This was served from a can with a nifty vibrating plate on the bar to create the characteristic head. It worked well. We sat at a nice bright corner table and had the choice of ordering from the blackboard or the menu. The food was good but from where we were seated we could hear a lot of microwave activity! Certainly the veg looked like frozen mixed veg from a supermarket! None-the-less it all tasted good and we left content.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but used the restaurant on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Thursday and Saturday, we were surprised and disappointed that the empty plates were left on the tables for so long, that the guests were moving them themselves. The 3 staff were bringing out food and drinks and going back empty handed. I've never seen this in any Wetherspoons before. On Sunday there was a young man working, J.P. What an example. He was friendly, efficient and fast. There were no plates, or glasses left on the tables. He did the work of 3 people and I told him so. If the manager of The White Hart reads this, please put this man in charge of training your staff and you will all have a bright future.

A special dinner to celebrate 25 years of the village orchard- and the Drake came up trumps as always. Being a non-meat eater, a special fish dish was produced just for me, and it was superb, with sea bream and samphire- absolutely delicious. Full marks to the Drake Manor Inn
