Everything cooked at Kellaways is cooked in Beef dripping. Now not everyone wants or can have this. Understand that it is obviously a cheeper oil but if not noticed the sign, would have eaten this and would have become ill. I am vegetarian and cannot eat beef or dairy products. If they did an alternative, they would receive more custom as these days more and more are turning to vegetarian and or vegan food for health sake. So today they lost out on a large order from my family. 5th July 2024.

Ive been coming here since 2005, we wont go anywhere else I don't want to write about anything negative because normally, there's nothing wrong, but tonight's food was Awful. Where to start, the fish, I had a piece of hake, £8.65 the first mouthful all I was tasting was this strong strong taste of fish, followed by that aftertaste you get with cheap processed frozen fish portions, the kind you see in the cheapest of cheapest store product.our dog always has a piece of cod but tonight she had to have extra that we cooked because once the batter was removed we were left with a piece of fish smaller than the cod bites they serve £8.95 no way was that value for money. The curry sauce was so thick , it was like eating quickest concrete mix the spoon wasnt going to move even if you placed it in a tornado , then the "homemade" tartar sauce. On the lid the ingredients ,mayo contains egg ,mustard capers black pepper parsley and lemon juice, but all it tasted off and looked like was supermarket deli aisle onion garlic dip, the predominant taste was garlic which wasn't even listed on the blooming ingredients nor was there a use by or best before date. 1½teaspoons for £1.20 , the price increase doesn't reflect on the quality of the products

While visiting family, we we’re really looking forward to some decent fish and chips, but sadly these were not the best. The portion size was fine, but as they’re cooked in dripping the greasy aftertaste was dreadful. The chips were also very soggy and although this can be down to new potatoes not being the best for chippies, our local fish and chip shop (in Cornwall) are still able to sell decent chips. Some improvement needed.

Genuinely gorgeous food! We have it once a month and it's always delicious. Kellaways is consistently top quality. We've never had an issue.

I've just finished my fish and chips and really felt the need to say what an amazing chippy this is. I'm here on holiday and we wanted a fish and chips supper. Having worked in catering and management all my life, I can't help but take notice of premises, staff and food quality. Staff were very professional, friendly and efficient. The place was Immaculate, staff all very presentable, with hats and hair nets and the food was excellent. Chips crisp and fluffy inside, fish moist with a beautiful crispy batter. Homemade tartar sause. 10/10 on all levels. Thanks for making our last meal on holiday delicious 😁

Me and my husband called in on way back from st Ives the fish and chips and fish cake and chips were amazing not greasy at all worth the wait to to cooked would definitely recommend and go to again when in area

This is the BEST chippy in the area WITHOUT doubt. We were very disappointed earlier in the year when they removed a couple of their vegetarian options (our favorites with one of us being a vegetarian) as we have been using this chippy for years, but much to our delight they are back and therefore so are we! Please never stop doing them! We, and I'm sure many others, would rather pay more for certain items as we absolutely understand that costs have increased, instead of having items removed from the menu. Anyone who does not understand how and why prices have increased needs to understand that takeaways are a luxury, but also that businesses also need to survive and be able to make money. To do this, prices will increase just like most things at the moment. Businesses cannot be expected to just swallow their rising costs. In our opinion, Kellaway's are very well priced for the excellent quality of food that you get. We have tried other chip shops in the area and whilst they are not bad, they still do not compare to Kellaway's. Simply excellent.

On the way home from doing my grocery shop I was thinking I quite fancy fish chips n mushy peas for dinner tonight so called into the local chippy ordered a standard cod, small chips & small m peas.....I almost had a heart attack when she charged me £9.95! JEEZ! that's over a £3 rise since I last had fish chips & mpeas from this place just before Xmas 🙁 I know prices have & are are still rising but that just takes the pi~~! .......I guess I won't be having it from here again in the near future! ....I always have a standard size cod, small chips, & small m peas & it was under £6.50 when last at this place & I thought that was expensive but b hell £9.95 is just ridiculous! I mean it's not exactly Michelin star food far from it!

Just had another wonderful food experience from Kellaways. Always consisently good and raises the bar and never disappoints. I would truly recommend to anyone who is looking for a good fish n' chips to go there and be blown away.

We have a favourite fish n chip restaurant, in Sedbergh, Cumbria and we can only pay Kellaways the greatest compliment by saying that their haddock and chips is equally as good, and possibly even better. First class!

I went to the fish and chip.shop. to buy some food. Was rudely told i will have to wait 1.5 hours for any food. And applied i was stupid for not ringing my order through. My first ans most definitely my last ever visit. Don't go there unless you like waiting 1.5 hours for your food

Love the online ordering system, order ready promptly, freshly cooked and no waiting. This has been a huge improvement on the old queuing system and I really hope it continues after covid restrictions eased.

This is our first trip to Truro as a new family with our 18 week old baby called Amelia. We were recommended an excellent fish and chip restaurant by our holiday cottage owner, and didn’t expect much however upon arrival we were taken back by the cleanliness and professionalism of Callaways chip shop.

Best Fish n chips we’ve ever had!!! Just moved to the area and found our new chippy! The batter was so light and crispy and not greasy at all! A lot of the time feel so bloated after fish n chips but not at all after this . Even the chips were yummy , lovely potatoes and again crispy and not greasy at all ! Check this chippy out!

We have been having the odd “Chippy “ evening with Kellaways since all this Covid started and whether it be on line booking or whatever, the food we have received has been of the highest quality. Roll on when they open again 👍😊

Friday 23rd October Arrived at Kellaways,Threemilestone at 1245 for 1250 collection and I was kept waiting until 1305 and what really annoyed me was the fact that customers who came after me were served and given their order and mine was nowhere to be seen, very frustrated waiting out in the cold as you aren't allowed into the shop; From one very frustrated customer who won't be going back to Kellaways. . .

Well done! Consistently excellent fish and chips! The quality is impressive and we always receive polite and courteous service. Love the fact that you can have different sized portions and a range of food for all! We have really appreciated the excellent click and collect service during lockdown. Superb fish & chips, even after 10 min journey home - still fresh & crisp. Number one choice for the Truro area.

We ordered recently on a lunchtime. The online ordering was clear, easy and precise, the service was quick, safe and efficient, the staff, lovely and the food was excellent.

Always excellent fish, choice of size - Cod, big, small or cod bites. Sausages, curry sauce. Also Haddock and plaice. Not cheap but good. Shuts early ?8pm?

Lots of posters everywhere at the shop stating how there award winning. So I expected a lot from them. Really wasn’t up to what I expected. Very bland and tasted of nothing

We probably eat here far too often! The team at Kellaway’s are so extremely friendly and polite. The food is fresh, and tasty, nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend them to anyone!

If your thinking of visiting kellaway's fish & chip shop at Threemilestone make sure your not first in the queue when they open for the evening as you will get what we have got on the last two occasions greasy warmed up left overs from lunch time.We will NOT be going there again.

We have had fish and chips here many times as we live locally and we have always thoroughly enjoyed them. Got fish and chips for my mum and sister and they said best they have had in a very long time.

Have been to Kellaways recently for fish and chips to try them out again as last time I went a few months ago, they were very disappointing.However having been recently they have certainly upped their game and they are cooking very good fish and chips.Well done and I would recommend.

Kellaways in Threemilestone is our absolute favourite chippy! All of the staff are extremely friendly and efficient. The best chippy in Truro, and beyond in my opinion. If you’ve not had the chance to visit this establishment yet, do so, you won’t be disappointed 10/10

Sausage and chips for tea tonight and it was lovely . Regularly get fish and chips from here and the fish is always lovely and fresh and the batter is nice and crispy. Chips are always cooked properly as well, place in its self is very clean and presentable and the staff are all lovely , best chippy in Truro by far

Great food and friendly service, the shop is very clean and well decorated. Our order took a long time to come though, needs to be much quicker, it felt like restaurant waiting times. It’s not complicated food to cook, nor to predict busy times. Even with a telephone order done 30 minutes in advance, we had to wait around another 10 minutes. A Kaizen walk through would probably really help this business.

Very nice,clean shop with polite staff.Fish and chips were well cooked, chips had a crisp to them and fish was full of flavour .Will visit again.

overpriced! £3.50 for a battered burger! Was tasteless! £1.20 for a portion of beans which must have been no more than 3 tablespoons and not enough peas! on a positive note the fish was lovely but the chips were powdery and left a after taste in your mouth. wouldn't return!

Unassuming but immaculately clean, with welcoming, hard working staff who produce excellent food. The fish is cooked to order and is as fresh and as tasty as that offered by Harbour Lights and Rick Stein’s (both in Falmouth)..... That’s how good this place is.

If your paying nearly a fiver for a piece of fish it needs to be decent. Tonight’s offering had clearly been sat a while so when I finally tucked in the white fish was a funny shade of brown, slimey and mostly went into the dustbin. This chip shop is local to me so I use it every once in a while, and it’s always the same. Am now eating a cheese sandwich

So this isn’t the cheapest chip shop but sometimes you get what you pay for. A large menu selection, but stick to fish as what idiot would get a burger from a chip shop and if I was rating this “place” (see what I did there!) on its burgers it would be 1*. But I’m not as it’s a fish and chip shop. A good fish and chip shop is all about the frying, here they have the oil and cooking times right, never burned, dry or hard. Perfect Cod and great chips. It’s very clean here and staff are very friendly. It has a good reputation here.

Bought two cod and chips from here Thursday evening , my wife and I agreed they were horrible.

Was keen to see the refit which looked really refreshing well thought out. Had Cod and chips which could not have been better. A very professional, family run outfit. Great work Kellaways. Cheers.

Just purchased fish chips and peas

Very recently had lunch from Kellaway’s and it was the best I’ve ever had! Beautiful cod and chips and chicken and chips. The new shop looks fantastic and friendly service. Would highly recommend!

Recently refurbished and now called Kellaways fish and chips... producing the same standard of food as before....the fish has always been good but the chips are terrible in our opinion...see photos.

Visiting Truro and seeing this Fish and Chip shop had excellent reviews, imagine our disappointment to get there and find it a building site. Pity the fact it was closed couldn't be put in their website to save wasted journey. Let's hope it will open again when refurbished

Really love the food from this chippy. It is always really fresh and hot. Reasonably priced food. Handy carpark across the way so you can nip in and pick up your tea. Friendly staff

Our local Fish bar which we have been visiting once or twice a week over the past few years.In the past we did find that the quality of the food did tend to vary but we feel that during the past 12 months or so that the quality of everything offered is now to a constantly high standard and we are never disappointed when we get home !

This is our local fish and chip shop. It is a family business which comes across in the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The fish and chips are of good quality and cooked nicely - more or less to order. Prices are very reasonable and the whole process of cooking and selling is extremely well organised. This means that at peak times you never have to wait long. In short, this is a well run business providing an excellent service. Thank you.

Very simple takeaway fish and chips shop. The staff and the fish were ok but the potatoes were over cocked and too oily. Total price for 2 fish and chips was £ 13.

Still the best in Cornwall. The standard is always very high, even down to the location of the trawler and the type of potato used!

We visit the Golden Fry at least once a week. It is the best chippy for miles, if not the best we've ever been to! The staff are friendly, the service is good - sometimes we ring beforehand to place our order (which is always ready for us upon arrival), & the chips & battered product we usually indulge on is always crisp & fresh - a sign of a great chippy! The place is extremely clean & always busy, if not too busy but always worth the wait!Thank you to all the team at the GF - keep up the good work!

I am writing this review on behalf of my elderly dad. He rarely goes out for food as he is on crutches as is not very mobile, he rang me up after visiting the golden fry last night for tea (23rd of Nov) and was really touched by the service he received. I was very upset to see the reviews about the young staff because my dad who is very vulnerable was taken back by the service he got by the young lady that served him ( offering him a bag when seeing he was struggling and taking time to hand him the bag when he had got his composure also offering to get the door ) this made dad feel very at ease as he normally tells me how rushed he feels when out in areas around public. He also loved the food and said it was the best cod and chips he had eaten in his hole 81 years of living in Cornwall!! Give urself a big pat on the back golden fry and please commend youre very hygienic and friendly staff on behalf of my dad. Thanks :)

We always go here when we visit Truro, prices are very reasonable, they have a nice menu and food cooked to order, we always have children's portions as you get lots of chips-too much to eat.Another thing, they always show where the fish is caught and which potatoes are being fried that day, we like this chippy.

Smelt of fish (spilt some on counter) staff speak like im a piece of poo. They look at me like im a piece of dog poo

The product is excellent, but amount is defiantly getting smaller. When it was £2.50 for a small portion it filled the container, now it is £3.60, and you can see the bottom of the container, and that's just the chips. It was so noticeable I was going to say something to the girl that did the order, but, she was talking to another staff member and didn't check the scoop to see what she had picked up. It is a pity as the quality is superb, a bit more training on portion size is needed I think, as even the full size portion was commented on by grandson as soon as he opened it, with no mention about size from me. Very disappointed

Been going here over 10 years now and never been to a better chippy, although, they have fallen back in recent times still good staff and great food

Have had fish and chips from this shop on several occasions and they are consistently good. Chips portion size is huge. They take telephone orders as well, which can speed up things.

They have the best tasting fish and chips ever, definitely the best in Cornwall. The battered cod is perfect. As are the sausages. As are the chips! And good portion sizes too. This has been our Friday night family treat for most of my life for good reason :) :)

Another tasty fish n chip dinner from the golden fry! We don't visit that often as we live in the centre of Truro town but when passing and no dinner is sorted we'll have something from you guys! Never have to wait long but if we do its cos you're popular and probably the best in Truro! Chips and fish always crispy and value for money. Will have to come again soon!

Living close by, I use this Chippy a lot, so any changes in performance would be quite noticeable. As it is, it has been consistently above and beyond with the quality and size of portions.The staff are mostly friendly and chatty, and the hygiene standard appears to reflect the highest rating (which it has) from the local authority.Keep up the good work.

I've used the Golden Fry regularly over many years and have always had a great meal! I've also always found the staff to be polite and helpful, the childrens portions are a great alternative for smaller appetites.

They are the tastiest chips and the fish is fresh and crispy.I like the fact that they have a board with the origin of their fish, their potatoes and even who chipped them!Spot on.

I noticed nobody has given this an excellent rating. I also notice no comments from the owners which is about par as in 10 years of going there they are always grumpy, not a smile in the place, they don’t really care. We don’t have much choice and they know that. I agree with the comment that you can’t choose which fish you have, you have what they want to give you. Who’s the customer here? Food average but as I said we have not a lot of choice. The next nearest is in Truro with car parking charges.

I am not normally a fan of Fish & Chips but I think that this place could have turned me. Lovely chips with fresh fish that is in the crispest batter you could ask for.

Another terrible meal from our local chippy, everything nearly cold including the pea's, the fish wrapped in a well greasy batter with the bottom of it falling off, the chips were the worst ive ever seen "Why" would you serve them nearly every one full of black eyes and scabs and all looking a nasty brown colour....3 meals cost over £20.00. this is the last time i will ever get food from them again.....back to Morrishes in Redruth for us

Now use this as my local chippy, used to go down into the town but the chip shops in Truro can be a bit hit or miss on quality and quantity, so I thought I would use goldenfry again after a few years and I wasn't disappointed, the chips are usually well cooked and not anaemic looking and taste good most of the time, they are rushed when shop is busy,the fish is normally good too with nice crispy batter, and they do a good variety of fish and meat products and sides ie curry sauce, mushy peas etc, on the whole a good chip shop and friendly staff, reasonable prices, well done

What has happened to this Fish and Chip shop?! It used to be brilliant but now appears to be run by children....literally which might be the root cause of the problem! We've given it three tries just in case we caught it on a bad day but I'm sorry to say that it's really gone down hill. Serving food which appears to have been sat in the heat compartment for ages, hard chips and on one occasion, a greasy battered sausage with a hair stuck in amongst it. Won't be going back unless I hear that they've upped their game and returned to what used to be very high standards!

This is my local chippy. Really enjoyed the servise and food last night! Food was great and servise was excellent. Would definitely recommend. Although I do not recognise that shop photo so picture must be wrong?

This is my local fish and chip shop I first went when I moved to area and thought ok this is bit pricey but I then find out that its £4 more than any of the other local stores which I find unbelievable I have now stopped going even the staff are grumpy

This may be a fish and chip shop, but you still expect some service, i wont be returning,I requested a fish cake that was on display and not an order as it was slightly crispier, with the owner looking on, i was told i was not allowed to pick one over the other 4 and only the shop staff could pick which i would receive in my order, hence i had already paid, it made little difference to them as they had only just opened and they would have their whole lunchtime shift to sell the rest of the fishcakes, i will not be returning.
