Absolutely delicious cod and chips, freshly cooked while we waited. Customer service was really good. My wife and I enjoyed the whole experience, thanks very much.

Just bought fish & chips today and the chips were not edible, they were like hard bullets, yet the fish was lovely. They need to sort this out before we go back as Mum broke a tooth eating their chips. Are they re-heating yesterday's chips? We ended up throwing away 2 lots of chips.

I’m a vegetarian and I’ve eaten here a few times. However, I’ve just learnt they use beef fat to cook the chips. These is no obvious signage to say that the chips aren’t suitable for vegetarians. It’s fine that they can choose whichever oil they want, but it really should be clearly displayed

Visited for the first time , welcomed by friendly folk. Wasn’t busy on a Friday,didn’t wait too long. Was steaming hot and freshly cooked with a lovely light crispy batter! We had a large fish and chips the portion size was adequate for myself and husband.

Awful chip shop really poor value for money, would avoid this at all costs. This with 3 sausages is 17 quid 😂😂

Heard good reviews about this place but I wouldn't rate it at all. Literally a minute down the road and the chips and fish were soggy, tasteless as well as the curry sauce..as soon as I ate it I didn't feel well. Just a small portion which was over a tenner. Didn't eat it all as wasn't enjoyable and now the next day I'm not well at all.

Best Chippy around, we’ve sampled plenty of the chip shops around St Austell since we moved down over the summer but we’ve found our favourite here in Penwithick. They are head and shoulders above the rest, they also have a bigger menu than most and there is a good selection of choice for me as a Veggie. My wife and son enjoy the fish and pies. Well worth stopping on your way through or making the quick trip out of town for these. We usually collect them on route to the beach of an evening to enjoy them down there and they’re still nice and hot after the ten min drive. Lovely people worling there too. Well wouldnt go anywhere else now.

Limited hardly any fish ..chips are greasy and very sickly and overdone .. if you have a slight intolerance to over greasy cooked food then bother as I was nearly sick as a dog ...had way better than this elsewhere .disgustingly greasy !!

Nice chips. Fish was small. Expensive for fish and chips these days.

Worse fish and chips we have ever had. Chips greasy and loads of burnt ones and the fish had no taste and the batter was still raw. The curry was that runny it was like water .. definitely wouldn’t recommend and definitely shouldn’t be able to open the door with the state of the food. Maybe the cook needs some more time learning to cook. £35 quid wasted. GUYS DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND TRAVELLING. Awful. 07/07/2022.

Used this chip shop almost always until now, new owners, changed everything, small fish 5.70, an looked like a sausage #wasteof money

Every time I have been to penwithiick I have been served at the time I have phoned my order,and the fish has been perfectly cooked.I have to drive 4 miles further than the holmbush bar but it is well worth it,I will continue to keep going there and support the best chippy in the area.Thanks James.

Average fish and chips, cooked to order, but ended a bit greasy. Nice and hot, at reasonable price.

From the moment you walk in the staff are friendly and jovial. It is very welcoming. The food is just amazing and always fresh and crisp. I had everything from sausage and chips too cod and haddock and even burgers, all were the best I've had from a chip shop by far. My partner insists on eating from here whenever we are nearby also. Definitely full marks, five star!

Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed it. Staff were very accommodating of our dietary requirements and provided a vegetarian option where the fish was fryed in a separate fryer, we really appreciated this and would highly recommend. Portion sizes are very generous!

Service was far too slow and disorganised but once the food was tasted all that was forgotten!

Very friendly and full of big smiles behind the counter, and the food was delicious. Would recommend to anyone travelling in the area. As part of the G7 driver team this little chip shop in a lovely friendly village was a welcome site. Thank you lady's for making me feel so welcome last night.

Friendly staff, good service & quality food

Moved to Penwithick fifteen months ago, used the chip shop several times, can't fault it, the staff are very friendly but more importantly, the food is very good, never had a bad meal and the chip portions are very generous (to much for me).

I have not been to this particular chip shop in years. On Christmas Eve, we ordered for the family. I was impressed with the quality of the food and how generous the portion sizes were. The staff serving were lovely and friendly. The food was delicious. Would recommend to anyone.

I am surprised at the negative reviews for Penwithick Chippy. My family and I have been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal. The fish and chips are excellently cooked by Debbie and Jess. Lovely batter which is always crisp and tasty. Smashing chips too. The shop is always neat and clean. A credit to the community, I don't know of many chip shop owners who would stay open throughout toe covid lockdown and also take it upon themselves to do home delivery for the vulnerable and elderly. Well done Penwithick Chippy. Will be back again soon for some more delicious fish and chips

Best Chippy around !!! This has to be the best fish and chip shop around !!! Everything is cooked to order and absolutely delicious!!! Service was great ! The owner and her team are all very welcoming and friendly! Went out of their way to Cater for my gluten free partner.Definitely worth stopping in for a good chippy tea !!! My new favourite!!!

Read the reviews before thinking still give it a go.Did not even eat the food it smelt like a poor London chicken shop walked up to the door looked in see empty counter and walked away if I had got food from this shop with it would come with the hump when I wasted my money .good luck

Although the fish and chips were cooked to order, overall it was poor. The batter had no crisp to it, it was all soft and greasy. We ordered 3 large pieces of fish and they were all different sizes and shape, quite possibly different fish. We ordered a pickled egg, and that was missed off. We will not go back.

Fish was cooked whilst you wait so you know its fresh and hadn't been hanging around for hours, really nice and decent portions

The chicken burger was lovely, but the chips were stone cold straight after collection.

As a local of the community I try to support local businesses, for the second time visiting in the last month or so it’s again been really poor standards, the two ladies working in the 07/03/20 didn’t seem to have a clue how to cook fish & chips, for a fish & chip shop surely you can get that right? the chips were raw & cold in the middle, saturated in oil and same goes with the fish, the batter was soggy the fish was dry and clearly not fresh. £17.10 For my whole order the only thing we enjoyed was the drinks, will be driving the extra mile next time for an enjoyable meal.

My son was sick after visiting, can't say for sure it was because of going here but he'd not eaten anything else that day

You may have to wait a while but it certainly is worth the wait !We have tried several things from here now from the fish, sausages, curry sauce, burgers, everything is so nice. Quite a big sized portion for what you pay. Would definitely recommend.

We were staying nearby and drove past a couple of times but didn't stop to try the food Saturday night was earmarked for a visit and we were met by a lovely lady who was a little stressed out as she was on her own but despite this she cooked 2 portions of cod bites and chips for us while juggling orders from the rush that followed. The rush did slow down the delivery (we were eating in) but everything we had was perfectly cooked delicious just as you would expect from a local chippy 5 Stars no problem

The quality of cooking is a bit hit and miss (depending who is on duty) and the chips are often more scrappy bits than "proper" chips. Friendly staff, competitively priced and good portions. There are better chippy's in the St Austell area but we Penwithick residents should support them.

Ordenados dos chips grande para ir con nuestro té, chica que tomó nuestra orden era bastante por desgracia grosero! Otras dos mujeres eran bastante agradables. Fuimos a las 6 de la tarde el miércoles y no había nada preparado, tuvimos que esperar unos 15 a 20 minutos de la patatas fritas para ser cocinados. Patatas fritas estaban bien, eran en su mayoría pequeñas porciones y heces minúsculo, no eran generosos en todo decepcionante!

Possibly the worst fish and chips I have eaten. Had fish, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce and not one part of it was nice. Find somewhere else to eat.

Went too this chippy were two old women served behind the counter service was really bad as if they didnt want too serve the food we ordered spring rolls scampi chips when we got back home the spring rolls were burnt the chips were hard you could break your teeth on them an scampi was just passable i through mine away i could eat them wouldnt give a dog . Terriable wish i had taken photos to show poor quaility

Lovely well priced traditional fish and chips cooked in dripping, very generous portions and very good value, must be cheapest around. Kebab night on a Tuesday or a Thursday I'm not sure.

Popped to this place, after settling into the cottage after a long drive from Hertfordshire, what can I say lovely service from the two ladies, lovely food will be going back before we leave

cooked while you you wait - which can be a quite while at busy periods. food ok but chips do seem to be recooked - found this on more than one occassion

Not sure what has happened since my summer visit. The last few purchases have been a little disappointing. Soggy chips, lack of stock, less than enthusiastic customer service. Polite notice informing customers of impending price rises. I am inclined to look elsewhere

I am not trying to be nasty but when I walked in to what seemed to be a really nice local chippy, I was greeted with a unpleasant smell of old burnt oil. We ordered our chips (hoping to get nicer food than what we had smelt), which took a while and then they brought out some soggy and burnt chips, but we still decided to try them and see if they tasted better than they looked. When we got to our b&b to have dinner, after a few bites we had to unfortunately throw £5 worth of chips away and find somewhere else to get food. We are holiday makers visiting Cornwall and would just like to suggest that you change the oil and don't burn the chips. I am sorry to say that I will not be recommending this chippy to anyone.

best fish and chips in the area we have been on hoilday in the area for the past 3 weeks and can,t fault the fish and chips freshely cooked nice portion of fish and enough chips in 1 portion for 2 of us.

Excellent chippy, my misses is fussy when it comes to fish & chips and this chippy gets two thumbs up from her.

Visit this chip shop in the week and the first thing i notice was how clean it was . We order two fish and chips and a curry sauce ..the sauce was full of flavor and fish and chips were cooked really well batter was light and tasty and the chips werent greasy .. excellent fish and chips great service ..all at a good price !! Would recommend to anyone

Very expensive and slow compared to other chip shops in the area. However their chips are to die for! Still though a little over priced...

Great value & always fresh, what more do you need. Parking can be a bit of a pain but there are a few nearby roads.
