The Golden Fry in Isle of Anglesey

I ordered the Finney Southern fried chicken thighs with the SF Gravy using the app for the first time to collect.Usually I fully enjoy the meal, but this time I was served the normal Gravy.Totally spoiled my meal.To late to contact them.Your staff need to be more tuned into orders.Very disappointed

We ordered for 5 adults. Lovely fish and chips. Not fatty or oily. Just lovely. There was a long queue but it was well worth the wait. We also tried the BBQ chicken wrap which was fresh and tasty. They also do battered halloumi which is a real treat.

As they had been reported as being the best fish and chips in North Wales, we decided we'd try it out, as we were in Benllech.We ordered 4 cod (2 large and 2 small) and 4 portions of chips. We arrived home with our order to find 6 portions of chips and 2 cod! The disappointment, but not caused by the shop, wasn't helped by us actually living in Bangor, usually 20 minutes away but with Bank Holiday traffic it was much longer.We phoned them, and they offered to replace the whole order, to throw in a thermal bag and make all the cod large. We appreciated the gesture and we collected them, completing a return journey to Bangor.The battered cod were great , the chips were good. We would've liked some more salt and vinegar - but that's not a negative, as it is a matter of personal taste.Would we buy from them again, yes if we were near Benllech, but we'd carefully check the order, just in case.

I live on Anglesey, but have never visited The Golden Fry until today.After reading it's had an award for best fish and chips in North Wales, my sister and I popped over to Benllech to see for ourselves.All I can say it was the best fish chips and peas we've ever tasted. Everything was fresh and cooked to order, so food was hot. Very efficient and friendly staff. We used the click and collect service We will definitely be coming back for more. Congratulations on your award, you deserve it x

Be aware if you click and collect, you need to pay a scandalous 25p charge for a bag. This despite the charge for a single use bag being only 10p. Luckily didn't drop anything going back to the car.

We have been coming to Anglesey for the past 5 years. We have always loved our fish and chips from here but the last 3 times have bee1n terrible. The worst just yesterday with really chewy not fresh fish which is clearly frozen and the chips were still hard. I hope you go back to the way it used to be not sure why such a change!

Excellent fish and chips with covid secure service and not very far from a sea view on the picnic benches on the Beach Road with car park next door. Perfect.

Traveled 2hours for these fish and chips excellent food just how they should be. Large fish very thin crispy batter, and traditionally cut crispy chips. Will see you soon

Visited April, I had fish and chips the fish was lovely as were the chips (although soggy). Went again the next night and has a chicken burger and normal burger...this was not so nice. The burger was dry and tasteless and the chicken burger was just a full homogenised burger nothing special. So if you go choose the fish and chips.

Great fish and chips. Very easy to pre-order online and collect at a set time. Covid safe queuing and friendly staff. Most importantly the fish was lovely, the crispiest batter and tasty chips. Generous portions, a large fish and chips could serve 2 but they have a variety of sizes to suit all appetites.

Went to golden fry on 9th April , after hearing about their award for one of best chip shops around the area we were looking forward to trying them out , we had fish n chips , the chips we’re absolutely tasteless and they were more like frozen oven chips and the fish was no better , quality packaging but shame about the rest very disappointing

Every time we come to Benllech the first thing we do on the way is to phone and order Fish and chips to collect!!The fish is perfectly cooked never over done the batter is so light and never oily. All the staff are just lovely so well done to them staying open through the Pandemic and cheering people up with a beautiful meal.Congratulations also for coming one of the 50 best Fish and Chip shops in the Country.Keep up the good work not contaminating your oils with meats you can certainly taste the difference

Great fish and chips from this award winning chip shop. Great socially distanced pick up facility, which boasts a covered outdoor area for collection. Order on line or phone for a pick up slot. One of the best fish and chips around.

We had small fish and chips last night and there was more fish in a fish finger than the ones we got.

We drove all the way from caernarfon for our tea. As we have done many time through summer , phoned ahead our order to be ready in 30 mins both sea food baskets where over cooked , the saled was nice . My fish was ok but a bit oily and chips luck warm soggy they used to be crispy.peas not nice and curry sauce not nice . Dont think at the moment we will be returning for a while . What a shame because it used to serve realy good fish and chips gluten free to .

Second visit and as good as the first. Perfectly cooked fish and chips and mushy peas to die for. Ate parked in front of the sea in the car. A perfect way to spend an October day.

Read the reviews about how great this chippy is and travelled from Conwy specially to try them.The cod was tasteless. Some of the batter was dark brown underneath. The chips were undercooked. There are plenty of nicer chip shops in Wales. Don't bother with this one.

Heard a lot of good things about this place so thought we'd give it a go after a day on the beach. We orderd the fish and chips with peas and curry, best I've had in years and would highly recommend.

Just returned from a 2 week holiday in North Wales and visited the Golden Fry 3 times while there because the gluten free fish is just that good! Beautiful crisp batter that you'd never know it was gluten free, and good portion sizes. The online ordering system is fab for saving waiting time, and the staff are polite and helpful.

We had done some research to find gluten free places to eat in Anglesey. The Golden Fry is a treasure of a place! We were able to enjoy wonderful gluten free fish and chips - a real treat, as they are not locally available where we live. We ordered by telephone and picked up at the time given. Perfect! The staff were friendly and helpful and all precautions had been taken with Covid-19 in mind.

As always ........ fabulous. Take away fish and chips stayed crispy and luscious even after a 10 minute car journey. No trip to Anglesey can be enjoyed without a trip here.

First visit to the Golden Fry but definitely won’t be the last. Perfect fish, chips and mushy peas. All cooked fresh and tasted divine. Highly recommend

Golden fry is by far the best chippy on the island lovely fresh and crispy fish cooked to perfection and fresh chips well done with all the social distancing measures you have in place we will definitely be back

Had fish and chips here twice (on different days of our holiday just in case you're thinking we're greedy) as we enjoyed them so much - and they had the advantage of not causing tummy problems for those members of the family who're avoiding wheat.Service was fine - ordered and paid by contactless card, waited outside (under a shelter) for our number to be called a few minutes later.

We ordered our fish and chips on line and was on time and very easy to collect. The fish and chips were excellent and all 9 eaters in our group were completely satisfied with quality of the food, size portions and overall service. Would 100% recommend this take away service and the fish and chips were freshly cooked and delicious!!!

We opted to eat here as this Chip shop was recommended as the best of the three in town.£19 for two medium (felt small for medium) fish and chips and peas, gravy and a can. Felt dear. Very watery peas. Forgot our gravy.Would be better going to one of the other chipshops or simply getting Fish and chips on a day out in Baumaris/Rhosniger/Holyhead.

Visited whilst on holiday and was happy with what we got, friendly phone service (during covid19 pandemic), careful and considered customer service when arriving for a pick up - they respect customers which is a big plus.Food was good, hot, delicious and exactly what was ordered. The fish was plump and tasty, really nice. The chips were perfect and overall I'd say it was a bang up chippy that I'd happily visit again. Good job!

We’ve always come there for food and never been disappointed but this time round it was awful the chips were anemic, the curry sauce was at the most a tea spoon worth and the sausages tasted like they were 2 months old so disappointed. Has it changed hands???

Had a beef burger. Poor quality produce. Greasy chips. Rude staff. Disappointed. Won’t go there again.

Excellent fish, battered sausage & chips. Batter was lovey and light and the fish clearly very fresh. Also really enjoyed the Halloumi side dish. Social distancing made easy with the separate queue for pre orders (very easy to order online too). Staff were polite, friendly and efficient. We can’t wait to come back.

Recently visited this wonderful place while on holiday. As usual the food was amazing. i would advise that people book or use app as it was very busy and in this current situation we are in is quite stressful to social distance. Could not recommend this place any more .

Despite having to queue for a few minutes to order the food came quickly and was rather nice. Not the best I have had but certainly glad we went.

Always have lovely quality tasty food. Halloumi and chips highly recommended for a veggie option. Also caters for Gluten free. My partner is a devoted carnivore and also gives it both thumbs up. The cheesecakes they sell are worth fitting in if you can manage it after the decent portion size. Service always friendly, nice to sit outside in warmer weather and look at the view. Been coming here for a couple of years and they have never let me down.

This chippie has been the best in Benllech for years but is now living on past reviews. People queue up and having had meals from here over the years I must say not up to the mark lately.

Couldn't fault it . Great to find gluten free tasty no greasy fish . You could order small or large cod very tasty and worth traveling a bit further for this fantastic chip shop in Benllech bay.we sat on the front and enjoyed our supper looking out to sea .well worth going again.hood service with a smile . Couldn't fault this meal we had gluten small fish that was hood size dint need a big one hubby had large wad not greasy like alot of chippys we been to lately well worth traveling a bit further gluten free cod was great will go again .

After all the good reviews decided to have a treat of chips and mushy peas. Very disappointed with the chip as they weren't cooked properly and were quite hard in the centre. Was so looking forward to them ad well

We have always loved this fish and chip shop and have rated it the best on the island but queued three times recently only to be told that they have no haddock!! It is bad enough once but a notice on the counter or on the door advising that they have no haddock would have saved time and tempers. Very disappointing

There are a number of Chip shops in Benllech but the Golden Fry is without doubt the best. Great quality, cost effective and a wide selection in addition to the traditional fare.

New years eve.gorgeous day. parked in free parking and wandered across.Nice outside seated area .warm welcome by young basball cap wearing man.Service fab..friendly.chip bap great. sat outside .tables .umberellas and lights as well as a,wall of lovely plants with a clear weather proof wall .Just lovely.cuatomer service second to none.

These people have it right only people with Allergies would understand the fish and chips are cooked with nothing else all Batter is Vegan where else can you find this service?? Well done keep up the good work x

We are locals and occasionally like a chippy around 5.30 pm we have noticed quite a deterioration in the quality of food for instance it seems that by going not long after reopening in the afternoon we have reheated chips from lunch time also at one time we could order two sizes of curry tubs but when recently putting in our order for the larger one the person on the other end of the phone lied and stated we only do one size never the less we ordered only to find the one size curry pot was a lot less but charged at the previously large pot size therefore ripping off regular customers and the public at large however we must admit their fish despite being a tad pricey is top notch but stale chips and overpriced curry pot despite good fish is still stale chips and overpriced curry that is why I will use the new chippy in Benllech a little bit more expensive but apart from the fish being equal one gets better quality chips and a lot more curry for the same price

First time at the Golden Fry, highly recommended and I can see why. Cooked to order so may have to wait a while but worth it.

Simply the best chippy in Anglesey! Quality food, lovely informed staff & Eco-friendly. Perfectly cooked chips, not at all greasy. Tasty vegetarian curry sauce.

The staff and all the food is amazing, we have just moved to the area and found this little gem.

It looks popular because of the large queue but what you eventually work out is that there is just a huge queue because the staff are soooooo slow.

We collected fish and chips from the Golden Fry on our recent cottage holiday in Anglesey. Once again we were delighted. The fish is so fresh and the batter is lovely and crisp. Excellent!!

We both had a fish, chips, peas and curry takeaway. Absolutely gorgeous, best Fish I have ever had, lovely light batter, not greasy just totally delicious! Would highly recommend a visit.

Whatever happened to that lovely older man who served behind the till and everyone thought he was the owner because he's posh and not a ginge? Some people thought he was a grump and given to being sniffy, but we (I and my husband) could sense that for what it truly was: suppressed passion, with a linger of plaice. Queueing lost all its meaning when he left. Please, if he's not dead, can you bring him back and give him a braid lanyard for his glasses?

Food was average but the service was a surprise. Served by a young man in his late 20’s who was polite and helpful then by a dark haired woman in her 50’s who was rude and condescending. Won’t be returning.

Our daughter needs Gluten Free food for her health. This take away offers a full GF menu, I informed the server that our daughter required a gluten free children’s meal and was told the chips are GF as standard, I ordered a sausage meal for her. It’s so nice to find places we can all eat out together. There is a large selection of GF food on offer here, there was GF vinegar too. We will be back again

We went to this fish and chip shop on Monday based on trip advisor reviews. They were the worst fish and chips we have ever tasted. Very greasy, my fish was grey and tasted awful. We did not finish them and had to throw them away. I even asked for the calamari as an addition as the reviews again had been wonderful. We threw them away, they were not fresh, they tasted like they were from a supermarket, the batter was thick and orange. We had travelled from the other side of the island, very disappointed.

There are a few chippys in the area and this one is situated in centre of Benllech just behind Tesco.

Really enjoyed jumbo sausage,chips and fruity curry sauce ,fast friendly service.Tasted so good sitting by beach with sun out.

The calamari has always been sold out so I was so happy to get some this time and it definitely exceeded expectation, it was amazing, even my daughter enjoyed it, so much so she wanted to pinch it all. chips and fish also delicious. would highly recommend

Nice fish and chips. The best in Benllech. This is the only decent fish and chips in this area, set back behind the Tesco Direct.

It is a very popular takeaway fish and chips but the food is worth the wait. Eveyone is very friendly and chats in the queue.

I bought fish and chips for all four of us. Fish was not cooked properly and the batter was soggy. Chips were cold warm-ups. Also bought a chicken and mushroom pie that was microwaved from frozen, yuck.

A seaside holiday wouldn't be complete without fish and chips and those from the Golden Fry were excellent as always - possibly the best on Anglesey!

Talking to regulars this is the best place for fish and chips in Benllech. I thought the service was excellent, the fish was very good but the chips were a bit greasy!

Really tasty fish, not at all greasy. Good chips and the spicy curry sauce is to die for. Not very many tables outside as it's only a small place. If you're looking for a chippy tea, it's worth the trip.

Miserable wet & windy Friday. All the decent pubs and eateries were packed out so decided to get some fish & chips and take them back to our holiday rental home in Red Wharf bay.

I was expecting good things, but the 2 large cod we ordered arrived smaller than a standard at our chippy. The chips were ok, but nothing to write home about compared to plenty I have tried.

We have visited this chip shop several times over the years, it used to be excellent for quality and value. It is now very average due to reduced portion sizes and inconsistent qaulity.

The fish and chips are not only the best Ive ever had but also gluten free which is fantastic for my wife. That said I am not at all sure I would notice. The chips are excellent and the whole meal is good value for money

The was a venue that we revisited after buying a take away last year. The food is very nice and is a cut above most take aways that we have used.

Can't understand why people have given this chip shop great reviews. It was packed out with people waiting for their orders, so we thought it must be worth the wait and if there are so many people the food must be delicious. How disappointed we were! The chips were dry and tasteless and the pies were covered in a dry crumbly pastry. Waste of our time queuing for an age and a waste of money.

The fish and chips here were absolutely lovely the curry sauce and peas were also very nice, I have not had such nice fish and chips in quite a while. It is such a shame that the the older lady serving the food was such a really miserable so and so.

Been here quite a few times now. That says it all. Always good, always a queue. That's what you get if you want it freshly cooked. Down to the beach in minutes, down the hatch. Don't feed the seagulls.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages. The batter was so thin and crispy with no doughy parts and the fish was cooked to perfection. The chips were delicious too. It’s all cooked to order and is very popular. Highly recommended.

Over priced and tiny portions. A large chips is basically a small tray. Fish was soggy wouldn't recommend you go there for an evening meal without remortgaging first.

Great fresh food, great prices too, a bit of a strange ticket system to get your food, but waiting, I can see why, there just wouldn't be enough room in the shop to hold the people, it was always busy when we went or passed by, the shop was never empty, now that tells you something.

Had heard very good reports of this place so gave it a try on our first night in Benllech. Lots of people waiting outside for their orders so expected a long wait as I was told everything was made to order, however the waiting time was only a few minutes. Adequate portion sizes, chips were average but the fish was really lovely, very white and flaky with a lovely, light batter which was cooked perfectly.

Very helpful staff. Really good quality food and at a reasonable price. Easy parking. Good views. Fish was really fresh.

The large cod was very small and the chips were hard in the middle, coupled with surly staff I wouldn’t recommend it.

Just had a meal from the golden fry, poor quality, chips undercooked and size of portions smaller than previous, why? Start of school holidays, rip off the tourist.

The view from this chippy is gorgeous. you can also order your food online. I didnt order online and their was a line but not a long wait - great service. Do make sure you get here a few minutes early to enjoy the view.

Best fish from a chippy I have had. Chips could do with some work though. Tasted like they had been cooked several times & looked it too. Staff could do with smiling more - costs nothing, even if they don't really want to be there (which is the feeling I got).

We were wanting a fish and chip tea for the family at the end of our holiday. It was only by chance that we ended up at The Golden Fry but we were so pleased that we found it. It was just a shame that it was our last bight. Although there was a queue the service was well organised and quick. My daughter was thrilled to be able to have a portion too. She has to be gluten free and finds it hard to find fast food that caters to her needs. There was even gluten free gravy and vinegar.

Our second visit to The Golden Fry whilst staying in Anglesey - I was looking forward to these all week and they didn't disappoint! The batter was even better than last time, super crispy and exactly how fish and chips should be. Fish was really fresh, and it's great that it's all gluten free so no risk of cross contamination! Good service, but very popular so do be prepared to wait (it's well worth it!)
