Great set up for contactless and social distancing. Long wait for food (as expected as only chippy in the village) so not an issue. Was advised when ordering about the wait time. Food was lovely and lots of choice

Loved our visit here today. Brilliant! The chips were delicious, as was the cod that we had. Super service with a smile.

Don’t really like fish and chips that much. Chips are greasy wherever you go. More of a french fries. person. Usually fish is greasy as well, so no matter how much I look forward to fish and chips, I usually regret having it afterwards. The fish here though was really, really good. Not greasy at all and very tasty. Probably best I ever had. One criticism: please provide a rubbish bin.

Shame on you! Happy to serve tourist but not your locals that keeps you going. Yes we understood that you were closing at 8pm and we were asking for chips and gravy only at 7:30pm. We were a paying customer. Was lovely to see you handing out free food after 8pm though. As a customer that comes at least once a week, i am very disappointed.

We made a special trip To go there on Tuesday but it was closed and looked all shut up Shame as was so recommended.

Best fish and chips I've had in years. The chips were just the right size and cooked to perfection - crisp and not soggy like so many are these days. Husband and son had sausage and were equally impressed. We'll definitely be back.

Over priced revolting food Ordered large chips and a cod twice Firstly large chips was placed sparingly on a very small Tray, my child could hold the Trey in one hand it was that small....And the fish was just as small. We didn’t even eat the meal Chips tasted disgusting very greasy and bitter nasty taste to them As for the fish batter was rock hard And the fish was wafer thin The produce used was obviously cheap and they have the cheek to charge over the odds absolutely ridiculous. I won’t be coming here again 3 times I’ve tried this place and 3 times it’s been horrible. I’d rather travel to Bangor and get proper fish and chips and half the price. How is this place still trading. I’d avoid this place save your money and eating horrible food.

Whilst on holiday nearby, decided to stay in for a night, pre ordered fish& chip supper, was ready when we arrived, nice meaty cod, loads of chips, piping hot, proper mushy peas. Defo would recommend.

Whilst staying nearby in self catering accommodation, we phoned through an order and was quickly and politely received. Driving out to pick up Cod 'n'; Chips twice I found parking easy and the Fish and chip shop very clean, efficient and only kept me waiting a minute or so whilst my order was wrapped. It really was a pretty good meal and the service was excellent.

Stayed in the local area and had driven past the Codmother several times. Ordered online which was not the easiest website to navigate and ended up with an order on the wrong day! However.., went to collect at the time on the emailed order and everything was ready and packed in the heated box awaiting us. Ordered cod, chips and curry sauce. All absolutely beautiful. Not greasy, crispy and really tasty. Fish was great quality and very fresh. Great potion size. Good to be able to opt whether to have condiments added or without any. Not a scrap was left on either plate after we’d devoured the meal! Very organised shop , and in spite of difficult website, great value for money. Don’t eat fish and chips very often but will live in memory for a long time!

Unbelievably, I have tried twice to get food from this fish and chip shop, and have failed both times. The first time I turned up 'on spec' and would have had to wait nearly an hour for food, so gave up. The second time I required a delivery. I thought I would be able to order and pay in person in advance and then my order could be delivered. Wrong! I had to order online. So I tried this route and there was an error page on the website and also an error via Facebook. So I tried to phone an order for delivery, explaining my difficulties. No, it was impossible to have a phoned order delivered (and only half a mile at that). I was told only online orders could be delivered. Grrrrrr! I lost the will to live and gave up.

I am obsessed with the chips here. They are divine! Fresh, soft inside and crispy and gnarled on the outside. Beautifully cooked. I travel miles to this chippy because they are best in Anglesey I would say.

In previous visits to Anglesey, my friends and I have tried Scarlett’s and The Golden Fry. Both lovely. This year, with the pandemic, we wanted somewhere we could click and collect. We tried codmother based on positive reviews. Fantastic!!Click and collect worked very well indeed. Ordered online and paid online. Given a 5 min slot to collect. Arrived, and my food was ready. Staff have a table blocking the door, so no need to go inside. Confirmed who I was and I was passed my bag of food. The food was amazing. Large pieces of delicious fish with crisp batter. A generous portion of lovely chips. The mushy peas and Chinese curry sauce were great. The fruity curry sauce was to die for. This is my new favourite fish and chip place on the Island.

Visited while on holiday nearby.Called in on our first night and their system for ordering during this pandemic seemed well organised. Was advised on arrival at the door that the wait time was 30 minutes. Not a problem as we were staying 2 minutes away. There was also online ordering available for them too but wait times appeared longer still.When we collected food it was being packed ready for us so was good to see it had not been sat for any time going soggy etcWe took the short drive up to cable bay to enjoy our food looking out to sea as the sun was beginning to set.Food was delicious, fish, chips, sausages,curry sauce (fruity) all very tasty not soggy or too greasy. Thoroughly enjoyed.Like anywhere at the moment expect a wait for your food or order well in advance. We will return for sure.

Excellent chippy after a day at Newborough Forest. Very friendly and well setup for the current situation. You can order at the collection window from outside. Fish and chips were lovely would recommend.

You need to get organised, even pre covid it was a horror. I thought the pre ordering system would make things better but no 20 mins wait last night, loads of people waiting outside some will be even more frustrated than me when they find they have to pre order. Fish was over done and peas asked for separately came on top.

Went to the beach for the day. Last minute decision ordered takeaway on line from the codmother. Such a easy experience pick up my food at 5pm. Food was there waiting for me hot and fresh. Could fault the customer service. Definitely will do again. 10/10

Having all arrived at different times at the campsite this super little chippy took our order over the phone and we popped in to collect it. Great fish, nice chips - nothing was left on the plates!!

During the week I spent in Newborough I only went there once unfortunately. Like everything else in the village it's great value and a proper portion.

We stayed just up the road from this shop and degiced to get a takeaway rather than cook on the first night. It was literally 1930 and there was no fish left and no suggestion of cooking more. We got the last of the chips and again no more being cooked. Customers after us would have had nothing to purchase so why not just cook more ???

We popped in on a cold wet Thursday evening and got fish and chips to take away. Everything was freshly cooked, and the chips especially were perfect. Very friendly service too.

We are staying nearby so popped in to collect dinner for six tonight. The staff are very friendly and the fish and chips lovely - possibly the tastiest I’ve had! Crispy not soggy. We headed off to Newborough Beach to eat it on the picnic tables (parking is foc after 6) followed by a walk and kite flying on the beach. Perfect!

Popped in first time after an evening stroll on Newborough beach. Had to wait about ten minutes as my fish an Cathy’s scampi was cooked to order. The food was so good we used it again later in the week. Chips fresh and not greasy and the best batter outside of Whitby. Staff were friendly and didn’t discriminate between locals and tourists.

After a day at the newbourgh beach we went for something to eat, in the nearby village there is a chippy, premier shop and pub. Parking is either a small car park up the road or some on road parking.

This is a small friendly village chippy that obviously serves the locally community well all year around.

The staff were friendly and well presented. Parking just around the corner. Some tables for eating in available. 8 people on holiday and on first night we went for a takeout fish and chip supper. Excellent fish a chips, good portions, not greasy and most of all it did not sit heavily on your stomach. Wish this was nearer to home. They gave us their phone number so we could pre order next time and just pick up.

On a weekday in the low season it was very quiet and the fish was fried to order, which was great. Perfectly cooked and very tasty. Portions were very good and the price was reasonable. Recommended.

Visited here while we were staying on holiday nearby. Fabulous place! It was extremely busy as a party of walkers had just arrived, but we were still served quite quickly by friendly staff. Even though they were busy, still had time for a chat. I ordered squid and chips, very unusual for a chippy, and it was amazing! Chips were crisp and extremely tasty, and the squid.... crispy and delicious. I was given a choice of dips for the squid and chose plain mayo. My hubby had cod and chips, and the batter was beautifully crispy, not at all greasy. All in all, an amazing find!

On this rather rainy Friday night, me and a friend headed over to Newborough and The Codmother for a small Chips and a small Chips & Gravy. :-) I paid just short of £5 for both meals. I also took a few pictures of this really nice Chippy and chatted with the very pleasant staff. :-) The wider menu list also looked very pleasing, despite me being on a rather tight budget! :-)

Popped into the Codmother just as the shop was closing. The staff made a real effort to serve us despite the late hour and we were not disappointed. The chips were something to write home about - perfectly cooked and really flavoursome. The fish and peas were also very delicious. It was so tasty, we sat at our campsite eating in silence. Thanks very much!

When you read through the past reviews you soon see whose who? Stayed just outside Newborough on holiday but felt the past reviews were overall good. And the chips really are (& the fruity curry sauce too!). When a chipper says FISH rather than Cod or Haddock, my alarm bells start ringing, especially so close to the sea and its called 'the COD-mother'. The batter on the fish stuck to the paper like 'Marmite to a blanket' and the chips were just rammed on top so that everything was just a big pile of....well dog's dinner! Shame really as pre-wrapping, the fish looked good in the warmer above the fryer. All the locals who came in after me were served first despite my fish being ready so as I started this with the above opening line...some of the reviews of those who live here comment with a little too much bias me thinks. Overall meal was 'average' unless you like it all in one big fried pile.

We have been here many times before. Very friendly and delicious fish and chips too. We will be back.

I will say straight off that this is now my local chippy, having moved to Newborough back in October 2017. We've been only twice as we're not huge fish and chips eaters, but we know good fish and chips when we find them.

Nice fish shop with great service. Cod was excellent but a title greasy on three of the orders, but very over cooked on the fourth order. For a very small village, we were pleased with our experience and grateful for their presence.

Gorgeous food from a lovely family ran eatery near to lots of other local places of interest. Definitely recommend!

Really feel like some of the reviews were a different place. The chips from here were over cooked and possibly reused oil. We bought two portions and threw most of them away.

We got a takeaway from here for the second year running during our recent holiday. On both occasions we telephoned our order in and collected at the given time. We did not have to wait more than a couple of minutes and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

No servicio en un chippy normalmente más rápido cuando hay mucha gente? Después de 45 minutos y de haber sido preguntado por un cliente en la cola si es normalmente lento, finalmente recibí una porción de salchichas y patatas fritas.

El gerente abrió la cafetería abierta para nosotros tan servicial, nada era demasiado pedir. El "fish and chips" estaba tan ocupado, pero nunca esperé mucho tiempo para nuestra comida. Have been a regular customer for months,always good quality but last nights takeaway destroyed my faith for the future,the chips were ok,not brilliant, but the batter on the fish was full of grease,spent most of the night suffering from an upset stomach.Will be a long time before I visit again.

We had a fish supper here (take out) and the staff were very friendly, cooked our fish fresh to order and chatted whilst we waited. The fish was very good - thick, flavoursome and flaky as it should be - with good chips. Definately will be back and would recommend to all.

We were staying in Newborough on holiday and decided to have a night off cooking and try The Codmother and I'm glad we did. The fish and chips were lovely (not too greasy) and portions are generous. The staff were really friendly as well.I ended up going back the following night to get some chips for our dinner as well!We bought the fish and chips to eat at home but they did have some tables for people who wanted to eat in.I'd definitely go back next time we are in the area

We had take away fish and chips from the Codmother this evening. This place does good honest British chippy food at a very reasonable price. My wife and I were very impressed. Five star value in the southern end of Anglesey. Recommended

Within walking distance of our holiday rental. The fish was really tasty and very fresh Unfortunately there were no mushy peas due to a hick up with them. There is also a seating area in the shop, not sure if available for evening dining. Highly recommend.

We were staying near here and as we'd driven for what felt like 3 weeks to get here we decided to go fast food rather than go out or cook. This place seemed to have decent reviews so we gave it a go as it was near the cottage. Sadly the food was a disappointment. It wasn't the best fish, more sort of minced than flaked. Chips were average. Everything was just ok, nothing special.

If you want a great fish and chips, choice of other dishes, sides and puds then this is you place. Up the lane from the beach into the main street and you're sorted.However, this is a takeaway with a sit down facility. Basically translated to mean you sit at tables with lovely decorations and have you food served to you in the takeaway containers. Drinks are the same. This made sense to me as their prices are low and doing it this way means they don't have to fork out for expensive sterilising equipment and crockery .Food is great and good sized portions.

Visiting Newborough's Llandwynn beach again we decided to take fish and chips with us, we stopped at the Codmother and placed our order we had to wait a short while as everything is cooked fresh and served piping hot just as we like it , we all ate our meal and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it even the kids who normally waste half ate the lot i had the Cod which seems quite hard to get around here Haddock being easier to get than Cod ?? great to visit a chippy that is just that and not a kebab or burger bar all rolled into one the Codmother seems to concentrate on the traditional fish n chips pies etc and does it very well my only advice would be get some Saveloy's

My family visited here after an unexpected trek across newborough beach to the lighthouse. We were all so tired and hungry that we decided to stop for chips which I'm not normally a fan of. The chips and curry were amazing!!!! The staff were so kind, friendly and helpful and even offered for us to sit in the cafe section at no extra cost which was just what we needed after our windy walk. This place really is a hidden gem! Great staff, cute cafe area but most importantly the best chips we have ever tasted!!!!!!

Unassuming looking shop front in the extreme but they cook the best chips I've ever had - hands down: fluffy inside and a slight crunch outside. Fish extremely good too with crunchy batter. And then they go and be genuinely friendly added into the mix. While my local can do the friendly part they don't hold a candle to these women folk in charge of a fryer. You may have to wait a few mins as they are rightfully popular.

Great food and understand gluten free diet fully. Very friendly staff and would definitely go again if over that way.

What a delightful "chippy". Friendly, fast and serving steaming hot fish, chips and mushy peas. What more could you want after a day on Newborough beach? Quality of food - exceptional! Not just any old chippy, but The Codmother of ALL chippies! You won't be disappointed.

Brilliant! friendly and well informed staff. I am on a Gluten free diet and the staff were able to make a gluten free batter for my fish which was simply the best I ever tasted! They were also able to tell us what sort of oil they used (palm) and that it was from a sustainable source. which meant that my sister who is allergic to rapeseed oil was also able to enjoy. The Anglesey potato chips even got Dad's seal of approval who normally moans about chip shop chips.

Stumbled across the exquistie venue on way to the lighthouse for some sunset viewing. Never had better. Customer service / feed.

After a bracing walk to Llandwyn against the wind and a lovely few hours on the island, then the long slog back to the Landy dragging children, we were all cold, hungry and thirsty on a wet Welsh Sunday late afternoon. As we drove through Newborough I could not believe our luck the Fish and Chip shops was open. I had no idea what the quality of the food would be like but anything was welcome at this moment. But I had no idea what a feast we would all enjoy. This was the best Fish and Chips I have had for a very long time. The cod was ENORMOUS! each one enough to feed at least two people. It was cooked perfectly, the batter was bright, dry and crisp, the fish fell into delicious sections, each slice s if individually coated in a fine juicy oil. The chips were perfect too, crunchy on the outside, floury in the middle. The staff were so helpful and accommodating towards us all and allowed us to each in their warm dining area, and gave us a doggie bag to take what we could not manage back home for the very appreciating cat. (I lie. I made it in to a fish pie!)

Absolutely brilliant service, ordered a breadcrumb fish that wasn't on the menu and the staff were more than happy to oblige & amazing chips. What more can you ask for? Highly recommended 5*

Arrived at this fish and chip shop for a take away at closing time and could not have been made more welcome. Charming and helpful staff and the most delicious jumbo haddock and chips we have tasted in a long time. A fabulous end to a beautiful day by the sea.

Stood waiting patiently for 20 minutes when it eventually became my turn to be served they took orders from 3 local people and didn't even acknowledge that I was stood there. Absolutely disgusted with this place. If your not from round there don't expect any service until they have served everyone else. Joke never again

Turned up at 8.15pm and it had just shut. But not only did they reopen but cooked to order a fantastic cod and chip supper. Very friendly and welcoming and deserving of any passing customer.

Made to feel very welcome to sit in by the owner and assistant, nothing was too much trouble. Had the best fish, chips and mushy peas ever. My Husband particularly commented to owner on mushy peas and she said they were homemade. You eat your fish and chips out the wrapper sitting down in a lovely clean area, does exactly what it says on the tin. Thank you.....

Fantastic meal. Made to feel very welcome to eat in! Kids loved it and ate everything nearly - very generous portions but they tried hard and - nearly cleared their plates! I don't normally eat fish and chips, but had scampi and chips and finished the lot! Can honestly say they were delicious! Would more than recommend and will definitely be coming back for more!!

So glad we did... Best chips and curry sauce we have had in years! Choice of curry sauce 'fruity or chinese style'. I had the fruity and it was gorgeous. Piping hot cups of tea to carry out (slightly wobbly lids). Husband and dog shared a sausage and pronounced it delicious. I am sure we will reminisce in years to come... 'remember that lovely chippy after our walk on Newborough Beach...

The best 'Chippy' food I have ever had abd I really don't like much chippy food. Generous portions. Unless you have a huge appetite beware of the LATE portions they could feed a family of four easily! The food was beautiful not greasy at all. I was so full after a small portion of mushy peas and chips! An absolute must to be tried. They also have an extensive menu including kebabs and salads

We have had fish and chips from here on a number of occasions. Although it sometimes takes a while due to it's obvious popularity, the food is well worth waiting for, staff are friendly and clearly enjoy working there and it is very reasonably priced.

Very generous portion sizes, freshly cooked so it takes a little while. we got tea for three for £18.00. Friendly staff - quite chatty - Welsh speaking. Slightly disorganised had to wait for the beans. This is a village chippy, and is welcoming of visitors

Travelled from valley to try the codmother. It was most certainly worth traveling for. Staff are very friendly and made you feel welcome. Their menu is great my son loved his pizza freshly made while u wait. There is a nice clean and cosey seating area to eat (we chose to sit in and eat). Im not a lover of fish but the fish freshly made by the owner was fantastic! I cannot fault this lovely little chippy a little hidden gem. we will be deffinatly going back.

Fantastic chip shop. Super friendly service, they accommodated our every need. Our order was huge and complicated and they were fantastic with us. Everything was cooked fresh and we all had a good laugh together whilst they prepared our food. The actual food itself was delicious. Top notch. You couldn't find a better chippy than this!

I ate at The Codmother last week during my visit of a friend who lives in the village. Very good fish and chips. Nice, light crispy batter, fish was fresh and flaky. Chips were cut thick and fluffy. Mushy peas included. The portion was massive and I could hardly finish it. Would definitely stop there again.

Waited 40 minutes for 2 large fish and two regular chips. Witnessed loads of mistakes with peoples orders in the queue.Thought oh well it's really busy must be good.Thought the girl traying up my order had misheard me and pointed out to her, that's not two large fish. She said the short ones thicker.Got home had one lovely large fish and one fat bit of batter with practically no fish in it.Large fish tasted absolutely great.There were 5 staff working, I think if they better organised everybody would've been served quicker and I wouldn't have been palmed off with a tiddler.
