This evening we went to the Sea Shanty to sample the new winter menu. what a truly bitter disappointment it was. I ordered liver bacon and onion gravy served with mash potato. It arrived drowned in gravy you couldn’t see anything except a brown liquid which was tasteless. My husband had the turkey dinner also swamped in a light coloured gravy also tasteless. All the food looked as if it had been cooked a couple of days ago and warmed up in the microwave and then flooded with soulless gravy. They did offer us something else which we declined. As regular customers who have visited regularly ever since it opened I can only think it was just a bad night or the so called chef was having an off day. Please sort it out as your food is normally tasty and good to eat.

Wonderful meal with attentive service from start to finish . We were recommended the sea shanty by a friend and wow it was a good one . The starters were lovely and both a very good size, scallops and black pudding and fish cakes. The mains were moules and frittes , huge portion of mussels which was fantastic. My partner had seafood tagliatelle, again fantastic with p,entry of seafood. The lady serving us was polite and attentive without being overbearing . All set in a lovely building ! We will be back .

Went as a family of 4 with one small dog. Dog was sat on child’s knee well away from the table. Was patronisingly asked to put the dog on the floor by staff. I understand not all people like dogs, however you’re either dog friendly or you’re not. Ordered the small plates. Patatas bravas were just overcooked new potatoes in a mass of tomato sauce, no texture or flavour at all. Salt and pepper chicken was swimming in chilli sauce. The menu has been the same for a very long time, rarely changed and is bland. Waited for a good 20 minutes to order a pudding, despite there being numerous staff members, nobody kept an eye on the table or reacted to us trying to catch their eye.

11.10.24. Ordered Thai green veg curry . On reflection I wish I had taken a photo. It was a Chinese curry and I can honestly say I think it was an instant mix powder. With green veg (broccoli, green beans and sugar snap peas) obviously just thrown into the instant mix curry. And boiled white rice. Nothing Thai about it. They should have said not made tonight and taken off menu rather than throwing that together and sending out to the table. Appalled. Did mention to waiter and he said he would tell the chef. Have been here lots of times, atmosphere and service fabulous but last nights food for me, shocking

First time visiting sea shanty, lovely welcome and we were very well looked after. A candle lit dinner for two was a lovely touch. The food was awesome and for the price you sure get plenty. Didn't have room for desert but maybe next time. Great theme to the place with so much boat memorabilia to look. Can't wait to return. Highly recommended.

Quirky thematic interior, with lots of things to look at or chat about. Welcoming and quick service. It is a bit cold if you sit near the door, so our advice is to ask for one of the booths if possible. We both had the vegan chicken which was a nice alternative to fish and chips or other beach holiday staples. The atmosphere was nice but, as it is so popular, it was busy and on the louder side - our conversation got a bit broken at times. The bathrooms were nice and clean which was reassuring.

So good and I am so full as I write this. Try to book in advance as it’s busy. We got here at 1;40 and got a table at 2:30. The menu is varied and mains are approx 14-25. There are lighter bites and child’s menu. Service very good. Decor so interesting. We were ful but still managed icecream deserts. Four mains three deserts and drinks came to around £90. Worth every penny!

My little kid liked the decorations on the wall. Has a very family friendly feel. Probably better to book as it seems to get busy. We turned up and they were able to fit us in but I think this was just luck as the place was rammed full. Food was very good apart from my onion rings which were a bit overdone. Other than that this is a great place to stop at. Close to the beach and friendly attentive staff.

We were really looking forward to going here, great spot and the menu looked really promising, however we left disappointed and for the first time in as long as I can remember didn’t leave a tip. We happily reward good service and usually leave a minimum 20% so this is very unusual for us. To start with, they allow dogs, that leads you to believe they are dog friendly, we sat at our table, asked for a bowl of water for the dogs (the 3 other restaurants we had taken the dogs to all asked us before we had to) and were told no sorry we are not allowed to provide bowls for dogs???? If you are not dog friendly don’t say you are, we would happily have gone somewhere else. Our starters arrived, my husband was at the far end of a booth and the server asked him to take his plate which she was holding with a towel, he burnt his fingers, had to drop his plate hurriedly, she carried on serving and didn’t even acknowledge though he was openly in pain. I asked another server what cider was available, when I asked if it was sweet or dry was told “I don’t know I don’t drink cider”!!! Helpful!! When our mains arrived, they were put in front of us and the server instantly walked off, we then had to try and get someone’s attention to ask for ketchup for the kids. Basically everything was an effort for them, they did the absolute minimum, no niceties and to top it off, with the exception of the creme brûlée the food was completely mediocre. Wouldn’t recommend.

Been here several times whenever we visit the Bay. On this occasion our experience was marred by the number of dogs allowed in and at one stage were allowed to fight amongst themselves and bark incessantly.I know this is down to the owners, who seem to exploit the cafe's dog friendly policy to assume they own the joint! Owners should intervene and remind them other customers may not want to see their pets licking their genitals whilst eating - that's the dogs, not the owners.Service was good and we only had a snack which was fine.We will be returning next summer as we always do because there is limited choice in this resort, otherwise we would go elsewhere.

I have been here quite a few times and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. The food is always spot on as well as the service. However, it seems to be a little bit too dog friendly. I have no problem with dogs. However, when trying to enjoy a lovely meal out, the last thing I want to be hearing is dogs yapping/barking, which is what seemed to happen on multiple occasions. I know this is mainly down to the owners, but perhaps the 'dog friendly' part should be separate. It's a shame as the Sea Shanty Café is a brilliant place- it has a great atmosphere, clean, well socially distanced, fab food and service.

We called in for a late lunch at around 2pm. We had not booked but the staff were happy to accommodate us. If we come again during our holiday we will book especially with COVID restrictions making things extra challenging for the staff. All the staff were wearing masks, the tables were socially distanced and we were given single use paper information/menus which explained COVID-19 precautions. We had our dog with us and he was made welcome, I think they are dog friendly during the day but not in the evenings. Had Mushrooms on toast with blue cheese which was so tasty. Lovely coffee too. The sad thing to see was customers who were not doing their bit by not wearing masks when walking around the restaurant, this exposes the staff to risk. We went in quickly just for a brew, and ended up with ice cream and chips! The place is beautiful on the inside with many quirky features, boats slung in the roof, and illuminated at night, collections of jars full of different things, shells, coins, glass, starfish, and sand from all corners of the world. There were odd things to look at on the walls from posters to oil cans, horns and stuffed birds. It's so eccentric, yet it's so comfortable and welcoming, the staff were very efficient and polite too. The covid precautions are good too, with table separations and customer numbers monitored. The food was excellent, fresh cooked, and personal. There was no feeling of rush either. The bar was well stocked with local brews, and plenty of gins and other drinks, for all tastes.I loved it and could have spent the day in there looking at the collections, and still missed something I reckon. First off, the food was tasty and well prepared. There were, though, some late substitutions although some but not all were explained beforehand. For example, my son's 'Menai' mussels became Cornish ones, which they explained to us and was fine (not sure we'd have noticed!). The tagliatelle became pappardelle, which was fine but not mentioned. The white chocolate creme brulee dessert I'd order from the menu became a normal creme brulee, which was still good but not what I'd ordered. The burger and chips were exactly what they promised, and good. Most courses were a couple of pounds more expensive than I would have expected to pay for these meals in similar restaurants. The service was patchy. The food arrived very quickly after ordering, but it was not clear to us who was looking after our group and it wasn't explained how to pay or order things. The tables were also much closer than I expected and the staff chose not to wear face coverings (which is fine, but different to what we'd experienced at some other places). We were ready to leave and I went to the pay at the pay point (which was in an empty corner away from any other diners to allow social distancing) but was reprimanded by the staff and asked to return and pay at our table as I shouldn't be 'moving around'. This was fine, but it meant that the serving staff had to squeeze in between our group and the adjacent party that backed onto our table by just one metre, so it made social distancing much worse than if they'd just taken payment on the way out as I'd offered. The dogs were also a slight annoyance. We're used to seeing dogs in pubs (less so in restaurants) but there were at least half a dozen of them barking away close to our table which added to the overall cramped feeling. I'm not sure why it was necessary for them to be allowed inside the main restaurant really.Overall, we much preferred sitting in this relaxed cafe restaurant with an ice-cream or drink on the outdoor veranda - it's great for that. But the meal here was a less relaxing experience and poorer value for money.

Ate here during “eat out to help out” with my wife and 1 year old. We both had the steak baguettes and also ordered a children’s meal. Food was prompt and fresh. Potions were good for the price, and the taste was absolutely brilliant. Often steak sandwiches in restaurants can be a little “hit and miss” but the meat was tender and tasty and overall everything was brilliant. Even the kids meal was fresh and not the usual “kids freezer food” like a lot of other places. Have been a few times now and look forward to returning.

My wife and I are staying in the area made our way to Trearddur Bay to watch the waves crashing into the coast as a result of the storm. After getting soaked by the waves and blown of our feet by the high winds we decided that a tea break was required so we called in at the Sea Shanty Cafe. On entering the cafe we were met by a friendly member of staff who stated that the were very busy with bookings but we could have a table for about 45 minutes - this was fine with us as we only wanted a tea and quick snack. On walking into the main restaurant you cannot help but be amazed at the decor - it is amazing. There are small boats placed in the ceiling rafters and other sea memorabilia hanging on the walls and on shelves - I would have liked to look at all the pictures in the room.We quickly placed our order which in the end was two cream teas - just what we wanted. The tea and scone soon arrived with jam and clotted cream. The scone was warm which was good.Although we did not have a lunch I did see meals being taken to other tables and I would say they looked very good; hopefully they tasted as good as they looked. There were plenty of staff working which meant that you were not hanging around to place your order or wait for food. All the staff were smartly dressed and they had very good customer service. My wife went to the the toilet and she said they were immaculately clean. There is a lovely log burner for the cooler evenings or winter days if they open. Now I have written plenty of reviews regarding cafes that I have visited on trip advisor and to the best of my knowledge I have only ever given a score of five to a handful of cafes of this type. Based on our experience I have decided to give the Sea Shanty Cafe a score of 5 as it is well worth a visit. We will definitely be going again before we travel back home. It would appear that the Sea Shanty Cafe is really popular, so I would book in advance if you want to guarantee a table.

We visited here twice during our visit to Trearddur bay. It is clearly very popular as it is not possible to book tables for dinner in advance (or at least not when we wanted to go!). We had tea and cake here which was lovely but the star of the show was the ice cream. This was some of the best ice cream that we have ever had! We will definitely return on our next visit.

We went twice this week, once for coffee and cake, and once to the ice cream parlour takeaway. Cake was lovely (though clarification of clotted / whipped cream to the waiting staff is needed, as there’s a big difference and a scone isn’t the same with whipped cream!). Friendly staff and tables a decent distance apart. Ice cream was absolutely lovely and a good range of flavours. We didn’t feel too comfortable though as there seemed to be very few Covid precautions. No staff were wearing masks, despite coming much closer than even 1m (which is obviously necessary, but unnerving without any sort of face covering as most other eating places are using). No one-way system around the restaurant or anything like that - the entrance door isn’t huge and to get into or out of the restaurant you had to squeeze past the ice cream parlour queue, so the two queues were about half a metre apart, and you also had to exit through the same door so it was impossible to avoid brushing past people either waiting to go in or waiting for ice cream. The outside area looked quite squashed - certainly people weren’t seated 2m apart. They could fairly easily have added a gate to the outside seating area fence so people could exit that way instead. Also I was coming out of the fairly narrow corridor from the toilets and instead of waiting the three seconds it would have taken for me to come out of it, a member of staff walked right past me, passing within a few inches. At normal times it would have seemed an impatient thing to do, given that he had to pretty much squeeze past my daughter and I - in the middle of a pandemic it was very disconcerting. We wouldn’t return based on the fact that we didn’t feel safe here, despite the good food. Other restaurants we’ve been to have managed the situation far better.

We drove past the Sea Shanty Cafe on Monday. We decided to nip in and see if they had any tables free. From the outside it looks quite small, however once you get in you realize how big it is and they have a really nice ice cream parlor to the right of the entrance. Unfortunately they have no tables free, we were really disappointed as the menu and the venue looked fab. As no tables were available we opted for the ice cream parlor instead. We both got a double scoop cone and I can highly recommend the millionaire cheesecake, mint choc chip and the honey combed toffee (I’m sure that’s the correct flavors). The ice cream was so tasty. We are going back to Anglesey in a months time and we’re going to book a table in advance to make sure we can sample the food here. Sorry about the half eaten ice cream on my picture.. it was too tasty to not get stuck in to it before remembering to take a picture for a review

Decided to the Sean Shanty out as part of the eat out to help out scheme, always wanted to go here as we live on the island but never got around to it, we booked in advance as its a very busy area this time of year, The restaurant is very nice and open , plenty of space between tables due to the new rules etc, very nice beach themed decor, the food was very nice , surprised to see homemade food as most places dont do it these days, the chicken for starter was great and the steak burger was really nice , honestly the home made chips are the best ive had ! The ice cream is to die for aswell, very well priced will definitely be going back again even after the government scheme has ended, Also would like to give a shout out to “MACEY” who looked after us whilst we were there she was very helpful and friendly also cleaning the tables etc and chairs after customers had finished. She was great !

This place is absolutely incredible! The food was amazing, well worth every penny we spent and great portion sizes. My partner even said the chunky chips served with the burger were "the best I've ever had." The service was also really good, staff were really attentive and friendly. So good in fact, that we even booked in again before we leave.

Beautiful meal here yesterday, having booked only two days prior. The staff were extremely accommodating and COVID procedures very evident throughout. The creme brûlée was incredible. Will be back soon!

At the Sea Shanty Cafe, I ordered a kids popcorn chicken and chips. I would give this a 5/5 because the chicken was crispy and good quality, and the chips were slightly salty and cooked well. I tried some chorizo aswell which had lots of flavour. If you want to visit a great restaurant go here the staff are also friendly aswell.

We finally managed to book a table here - no mean feat in a post-Covid Restaurant in Wales, judging by the week we’ve just spent in the Trearddur Bay Area. The food was good (starters small and pricey, but nicely embellished with interesting, home-made dressings).Main courses were good too.1 area to look at (for our 6yo, and for an ever growing number of people) would be “Dairy Free” options, especially in the desserts section. It was clear to us that the excellent food quality was in part due to being home-made, so maybe a challenge there to set the chefs!Post-Covid restrictions are a tough, time consuming headache, I get this - but the table we were sat at had another party sit directly behind us, and when chairs were pulled out for use, the backs of the chairs were barely 50cm apart.Best part of our experience - The Service!Every Team Member that engages us did so with warmth and with a will to please....Sounds easy, it isn’t.. Well Done to the Management for the time and effort spent on ensuring this little seaside gem has such a well coached, truly customer focused team.

Visited for lunch. All COVID safe and clean. I had the catch of the day (haddock) which was tasty and reasonably priced, as were the drinks. Service was efficient and friendly.

Great choice of food with good kids menu. Couldn’t book in Monday-Wednesday due to vouchers scheme but got a spot on Thursday lunchtime. It was well organised socially distancing wise. Lovely staff (there seemed to be a lot working there) and very attentive. Great selection of food which was delicious and reasonably priced and very generous portions, good choice of kids menu. Ice cream was delicious. Lovely authentic well thought out interiors

Visited with a few of my friends last week and was once again disappointed. I live local and we go to the sea shanty often and every single time I am let down by the food and/or service. I had the mussels - the sauce had no flavour and wasn't fresh. Nothing but bland food all around and always the case with the sea shanty from our experiences anyway. Wont be coming back again.

We have been coming here for 4 years and it’s always been brilliant the kids look forward to the fish and Chips almost as much as I do the burger. The service and staff are fantastic and under the current guidelines the team are doing a job to be proud of. We highly recommend a visit here

A bit disappointing after our recent visit. The restaurant was very Covid safe and the ladies toilets were greatly set out. The service wasn’t too bad but I was mainly disappointed in the ‘Welsh Rarebit’. I ordered it without the egg or the bacon so it was just essentially cheese on toast for £7 odd and it came burnt! I do think that’s poor!

We visited with our three young children and in laws for a birthday meal and the restaurant is lovely. Well laid out and staff greeted us at the door and took us straight to our table. The lady who was serving us at first was lovely, very attentive and quick but then she seemed to disappear, I presume she’d finished her shift so we then had to track the waiters / waitresses down for our desserts and bill which wasn’t great with three young children who were getting a bit bored. My son dropped his ice cream on the floor and the lady I asked gave us a new one no problem which was great. The portions were big and there was a good choice. Only thing Is there were no salad options just a side salad. I would visit again.

The sea shanty prices have gone up since lockdown . The fish and chips was great . The tomato and red pepper soup was lovely but SUCH a small portion . Weird COVID restrictions like when they brought the drinks asked us to take them off the tray♂️. Chips were great , a whole slice of bread with soup .. tiny piece of butter ( yesterday was half a slice of bread )We had a small dog with our party . This was no problem . After we left the dog pood outside the door whilst we were queuing to get an ice cream before we left . As my son was picking it up he got a tiny bit on his hand . He went back in ( he had left literally 1min earlier ) and asked to go to the toilets to wash his hands was told he couldn’t go back in he had to use the toilets on the car park . HE had paid for lunch for our party of 5 !! Shockingly unadaptable ! He was only asking to wash his hands so he was clean and could eat his ice cream . We left without ice creams . We have met the owner in previous visits and chatted at length We are certain this is not what he woukd have wanted his manager to behave like . Surely customers are important and a little flexibility is needed in a case like this .But disgusted and disappointed to be honest . Would like the sea shanty’s comments please !

Visited this evening having booked 3/4 weeks in advance, from the start the waitress was unhelpful and borderline rude, she did not seem to want to be there in contrast to some other observed staff, the food was to a good standard and arrived promptly, However the meal was a special family meal for my daughter's 7th Birthday and she only wanted some ice cream, which was unavailable. All in all the food was nice but service overall significantly lacking which let the whole experience down.

Had a family lunch, the service and food were faultless but what was particularly impressive were the covid precautions in place. This was our first time eating out indoors since the easing of restrictions and the precautions in place at the Sea Shanty worked well and made us feel very confident eating there. Recommended

The sea shanty has so much to offer...Ice cream parlour - fantastic! The best around. Always a friendly service and great decor our kids love it everytime we visit (twice a month).Outdoor bar - brilliant on a sunny afternoon with a jug of wine! The main restaurant - great interior design, a brilliant menu with quality food. It is always delicious. The only niggle is the lack of training with staff, it's a great local employer which is a credit to the company. But it isn't a cheap eat, and people need to think that visiting the shanty may be a big financial treat. If I were in this boat, I would be disappointed with the level of service and lack of attentiveness from staff. One guy spilled a coffee all down the side of the mug and onto the table recently and then just walked off without even saying anything let along mop it up. It just needs polishing.Don't let let this put you off though, the food out weighs this!

We called in here for an evening meal and we highly recommend the food. Two of us had sea bass and two of us had chargrilled burgers. Delicious. The menu seemed to cater for most tastes. The food arrived quickly and the staff were eager to please. The tables were spotlessly clean. The menu was very reasonably priced and the portion sizes were quite large. The building is great inside. We loved the decor. There was plenty of seating. I think dogs are also welcome during the day. The Sea Shanty seems to be known for ice cream but we didn't try any. This place is more than a cafe. Go and see for yourself. Highly recommended.

Whilst out driving round Anglesey we arrived at at Holy Island and needed to avail ourselves of the facilities of the little boy and girls room. However the local council facilities were not in great supply and so we went into the Sea Shanty to have a coffee and use their loos. Once inside, the look of the meals had us changing our mind. The meal was exceptional and the staff were also excellent and very attentive to our needs, along with those of our little dog. Tables were cleared and cleaned extremely well. Full marks to the Sea Shanty

We popped in with our dog for a cup of coffee and was really surprised at how big it was and the decor. Its fantastic, has a great feel to the place! The staff were really friendly. As soon as we saw all the ice creams, we knew we wouldn’t be able to resist, and i’m glad we didn’t, one of the best ice creams i’ve ever had!!!! Oh and the toilets are great, they had a submarine sonar and underwater soundtrack, a great quirky touch!!

Beautiful decor, fab nautical theme with lots of interesting touches. It's a bit more than a cafe, nice burgers, roast dinners etc. Great location on the beach next to a car park. There's a separate ice cream parlour at the front which is nice. Might need to book at peak times, we went mid Sunday afternoon and it was busy. I have various food allergies and can recommend it, gluten free, vegan etc were clearly marked on the menu and they had gluten free bread available. The ice cream parlour had a board with every flavour and its allergens which was great,

Just had the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life. Tasteless. Chips were freezing, anaemic and slimy - like old chips refried in cold fat. Fish batter was so soggy. This place used to be great but it’s getting progressively worse. Never again. Nice box though …

Booked a table for 4 over a week in advance. We turned up 5 minutes before our allocated time to find the place all locked up. Despite there being lights on in.the upstairs rooms no one came to answer the door despite ringing the bell and knocking!!! We left a note through the door stating that we had in fact been to the place but still no one had the decency to ring with an explanation. We left our telephone number at the time of booking. Never have we experienced such treatment from anywhere in Anglesey and would.not advise anyone to go there. Incidentally we had travelled some 15 miles to get there!!!!
