The Golden Fleece in South Kesteven

Before the inside was very dated, great pint though. Its recently had a revamp inside and we have been here a few times since. Its a lot more attractive than it used to be but still a pub at its heart I think. Due to the investment thought would try it out for food to see how it rates against the other Stamford places to eat First food experience - Came for lunch in the dining room and it was very, very hot…. radiators were blazing as it was a cold day outside. Had the lasagne which was not great to be honest - was a bit like it had been cooked too much and then had a layer of cheese put on top to disguise this – so was lots of pasta and cheese and a bit too greasy Second experience: Went back to try the Sunday lunch out (c£15) and wasn't so impressed either. Pre-booked but was sat in the bar as the dining room was full and it was a tad cold in the bar. Had the topside beef - cooked all the way through but my preference is to have I meet a bit red so for me it wasn't great. Vegetables and everything else was OK and lots of them but all a bit on the bland side - roast potatoes were very tasty and the saving grace. I would rather have less and it be tastier. Some of the waitresses were a bit off at times too sadly Very limited vegetarian options which is a bit of a miss The pudding was treacle sponge and ice cream (£5.50) and this was just a pre bought treacle sponge popped onto a plate so not particularly inventive or tasty TBH I think if you're looking for a very cost efficient value for money meal this is a good place for you. If you're looking for something with that ‘extra taste’ on top of afraid the Fleece does not deliver I don’t think I would go back for the food, beer yes, food no On the plus side it is great value for money and the revamp has really added to the pub. Also recommend sitting outside in the summer - best place to sit in Stamford for catching the sun

We popped in for a livener. I had pints of Tiger ale. The ale was top notch. An impressive selection of pumps and taps. The atmosphere was most welcoming and relaxing. A few people were having lunch and food looked very good. I would highly recommend visiting the establishment when in Stamford.

Beware they don't accept SCOTTISH MONEY Although it's legal tender in the UK As scotland is part of the uk very disappointed

Very friendly & helpful staff. Most of the food is made on the premises. We had a cheese mushroom quiche & a lasagne, both meals were excellent value, well presented & delicious. We would certainly go back again, if we were in the area.

We called for a drink on Sunday evening around 7pm. We had passed this place earlier, looked busy and the food reviews were great. The bar was quiet, no problem, we ordered a drink from the rather unfriendly bar man and sat down. He then proceeded to stand at the bar and play videos/ watch something on his phone so loudly that we couldn’t chat. I suppose it made up for the fact there was no background music and no atmosphere. It’s not that the pub was quiet, the barman just didn’t want us there. We took our drinks and finished them outside so he could play with his phone in peace!! Such a shame for a pretty and central pub, sandwiched between two other lovely pubs. I will not return.

Came here for Sunday lunchtime meal. We were given a warm welcome. Hadn't booked. However, we were accommodated very well. Staff very friendly. Food was perfectly cooked and presented. Would recommend highly.

We popped in for food and a drink on Easter Sunday. No booking, but they accommodated us with a warm welcome! Our dog was offered water without asking, which is ideal as he doesn’t talk much. Beer wise, there was a nice selection of real ales. I had Sunchaser ( ironically it had rained nearly non stop). Ellie had Inches cider. Food was served quickly, considering it was cooked fresh. I had Gammon, Egg & chips. The wife had hunters chicken. Both were delicious! Lovely traditional English pub too!

Excellent Sunday lunch - just like Mother used to make! We're on a visit to the UK from our home in Spain and there were two things on our food bucket list - a good Sunday lunch and good Fish and Chips. This has certainly ticked the Sunday lunch box! Really good sized portions of home cooked food, well cooked and well served. Don't think we will be able to find better! Thoroughly recommend the Golden Fleece but you need to book.

Visited today for lunch with my husband,I ordered a Cheese and Bacon Panini my husband ordered a Bacon Cheese Burger,the waitress told me it doesn't look like a Panini but it is one,it hasn't got the lines on it,okay no problem I said,it came with crisps and a small salad,it was a small Bagette cut in half,not even toasted,the Cheese wasn't melted and the Bacon was full of fat,the crisps were hard,I had to pull the fat off the Bacon to eat it and left it all on the plate,my husbands Burger had the same Bacon in it,full of fat,he picked his Burger up to eat it and greese from the Burger ran out.Went to pay and wasn't asked how was your meal,I think she knew by the amount I left.
