The Golden Fish in Ipswich

Rubbish company, the amount of times they haven't opened up on days when they're supposed to be open is atrocious, literally only 2 fish and chips shops are open on Sundays, they're foolish to not open without even letting anyone know. Don't even deserve my custom anymore.

Used to be a regular here years ago, and nothing was too much trouble. We’ve been using this shop again over the last 6 months, and service is dire. No recognition, never have what we want in stock regardless of the time or day, not willing to make small adjustments on orders, and staff mess up the payment every other visit! I won’t be going back.

Good customer service (dealt with an ill mannered customer before me very well), ordered a portion of chips with salt and vinegar....got to the car (30 seconds walk) opened and the chips were not hot! Was lukewarm. Was not expecting that very disappointing was served chips like this. The quality of the chips were fine not old oil taste which was a positive.

The chips were uncooked and very greasy they took 15 minutes to severe me and charged me £20 just for 4 small chips and 4 batters sausages would not recommend

Tasty chips, generous portions, good prices. Hard to find chip shop chips that are decent these days but this place is genuinely one of the best in town. Friendly service too

A very good fish and chips shop and awesome food. The staff are very friendly and nice and also this one time i came in right before closing and they still served me and gave me some food for free as-well! Totally would recommend.

Called here the other day as it was the only chip shop open, wish I hadn't bothered, paid £5 for two portions of chips, had to wait for them to cook some as there wasn't any ready, finally got my chips and they were disgusting, the outsides were tough, some weren't cooked through, they left a vile taste in ya mouth, me and my partner couldn't eat them, they were vile, person who served me didn't seem friendly at all, I won't ever set foot in there again, what a waste of £5.

£5 for 2 portions of chips, half of them were hard and under cooked, the ones that were just about edible left a horrible taste in your mouth, a total rip off and a health hazzard.

Very nice staff but the chips were cold when I got home , live around the corner, I think the chips were just reheated , cold and soggy , all ended up in the black bin , won’t be in a hurry to go back , clean inside but food total rubbish , me and the wife both agree, worst chips ever

The portions varied.. The small was nice crisp batter soft white white fish. Chips ok . The sausages cooked but a bit over cooked. Love the staff.

This is great local fish and chips shop with lots of parking behind! Even better now that it takes card payments.

Didn't really want to go there as I've found the food in the past poor. Ordered saveloy and small chips, Chips not nice, saveloy abysmal, like a dried up hard piece of leather. A total waste of money, my own fault though, should have just had cornflakes.

Absolutely livid! They did my order wrong which meant I owed more, not a problem, the owner said "that's an extra £3.90" I said no it's an extra £3.50, he then said "oh yeah". Paid by card but when I looked at my account, he had charged me £3.90. Make sure you check what they type in. This is stealing! How dare they! Might only be 40p but of they do this with everyone, they're making a lot! I had large chips £3.50, small chips £2.50 and 3 jumbo sausages at £2.50 each. I paid one transaction of £10, then £3.90!!!!!!

I have been here 3 times now. Last time we got very undercooked chips, time before that everything was warm and the foret time we went we thought "oh maybe it's a one off and it isn't always this bad". Won't be returning again as I just realised codfather is down the road

They just need to change the oil more often. Nice shop, clean, helpful friendly staff.

Well cooked, generous portions, reasonable price, ordered scampi but got calamari! Too far to go back and change.

Lovely place, the people are always friendly and happy to see you. If you want proper chips cooked properly then come here - the portion sizes are a welcome sight believe me.

Good food, but a better Gluten Free choice would make it 5star!!!

Awful so disappointed as we have been coming here since it opened. Haddock wasn't haddock or cooked and the kids boxes have gone downhill

Make sure yours isn't the last order as my chips was very dry and tasted old, fish was ok Usually decent

Food was not great. Don't know how you can get mushy peas wrong. Service was slow, too.

The owner puts stuff in your order so you dont realise and charges you for it. Happened too many times now to be a coincidence. Also only takes cash which is wrong.

Dealt with a big order for our office easily. The staff were very friendly and all 10 meals were correct, hot and everyone seemed very happy!

Normally very nice food but some of the chips were really hard, dry and old on Tuesday. Also, cash only which is a bit of a drag

Worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. Large cod is a standard medium everywhere else in the world and the chips were diabolical

Excellent fish & chip shop. Great food served by friendly staff. This place has a car park at the rear which is very convenient.

They do a lovely grilled Cod in olive oil and black pepper.

The fish is just so succulent and tender and the sausage in batter is out of this world and the chefs are very friendly I would extremely recommend this fish and chips restaurant!

Over priced and awful customer service... The staff seem to have a serious attitude problem. If there was an option for a zero star I would have put it. Steer clear and enjoy the good ol British supper elsewhere.

I ordered and paid cod roe, but found some veggie sausage/samosa inside I don't even know what it is... annoying

This isn't my local chippy but the fact the portions are generous and the prices competitive make the extra mile or two well worth it. The staff are friendly and the place is very clean, new and inviting, plenty of parking behind the chippy seals the deal.

Chips sodden in oil, fish sodden in oil, under cooked and expensive by comparison. If you were to compare to Aldeburgh fish and chips these are noticeably more expensive and of a far lesser quality. "award winning" what award and from whom? they cook chips too slow and at a too lower temperature, end result is chips that absorb oil and become a mushy sponge of nastiness. I will never endorse or purchase from them again
