Been in go a long time, good chippy just slightly pricy

Not to my taste. Fish was abit dry and the chips weren’t much better, not sure if we got the leftovers as mostly small scrappy chips. The quality did not live up to the price. Won’t be in a rush to return.

I always call in for their cake butties. As living in an area that's never heard of them . There are a real treat. Well worth trying.

I Used to eat here all the time but the prices are far to much now its stupid an think the owner is far too greedy ... small portions, i got a chip butty with a drink. as i coudnt get a bank loan for there fish and chips .. i probly got one large patato about nine chips and bearly saw change from a tenna .. an they taste faily soggy an realy oily dont no whats happend to the place .. milbridge fisheries is the one

Cold fish and chips no colour on the chips, they looked like they had been boiled!!!! Very poor quality.

The fish was nice, but the chips looked as if they were leftover from yesterday and recooked today, not up to their standard, not good for the price we have to pay for them

Big fish shop, better opening hours than many others in the locality, easy to get to and has parking, fish and chips are good, cooked fresh when I've been in. If you want to eat in, there are some tables inside, but it's not really a 'restaurant'

I ordered fish and chips mushy peas and a t cake , what i got was half of a bag of chips a small fish and a t cake that had never seen any butter ,all for £11.40 what a rip off

I’ve used The Golden Fish for 40 years. Just called in to grab 2 fish sandwiches. I have never had a more disgusting fish butty in all my life. The batter was burnt,the fish tasted old but the most nauseating thing was the lumps of hard to chew pieces that were like the edge of the pre cooked fish. I threw half away and feeling like I could vomit 20 mins after.

I've been coming here on and off over the years, and in the past, the food hasn't been the best. Lately, however, the food has been absolutely amazing. I've been back a few times in recent weeks and haven't been disappointed in the slightest

Best Fish and Chips you will ever have! Was driving past and called in one Friday evening and it was the best decision we made. Will be going there every Friday even though we live in Birstall!

Was driving through after a meeting had an impromptu stop. Had the fis cake and chips, was pretty decent tbf. I quite enjoyed it

never going her again on principle, the most expensive chip shop in all Yorkshire. nearly £10 for mediocre fish and chips that just leaves grease in your mouth. what's even more scandalous is they wont let you pay on card unless its £15 minimum.. absolute joke.. never in my life i have seen a £15 card limit outside of London, makes me laugh as these kind of companies make out to their customers it costs a fortune to use a card and being a business owner i know its cost you naff all. what's even more suspicious is the fact they've just added a new in shop cash machine they refer you ( because you dont want to spend £15) to 'they're getting paid to have' there for every withdrawal. scam chip shop... never going back, share to raise awareness.

i see I'm not the only one who has spotted the scam £15 minium charge on card, this place sells poor food at max prices and runs a scam to get you to spend more.. avoid like the plague.. 0/10

We called for our tea tonight 30th August Hubby had fish and chips, and I had chips and Scolles ( soz about spelling) With English Curry Sauce and Ball Bits absolutely 💯 Fantastic 👍👍👍👍❤️💯💯 We sat in the car and ate them Two ladys on this evening Unfortunately no photos as I didn't have my phone, THANK YOU AT THE GOLDEN FISH

Not happy at all just spent 31.50 on 3 battered sos 2 fish buttys and 2 large chips the chips are normal portions the skinniest fish I have ever had from a chippy and dry I normally pay 20 pound for all that from my normal chippy make no wonder it was dead when I walked in the prices are shocking 😡 only good thing I can say is the staff are lovely

Greasy fish, no where near as good as it used to be.

Just what we needed, a chip butty. The chips were fresh out of the fryer, lively and hot and crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle!

Can't fault the food from here. It's our go-to chippy! A recent development is the £15 minimum spend for card payments. I appreciate whilst everyone is going cashless businesses get squeezed. Something to bear in mind.

Delicious fish chips and peas with a distinctive "old fashioned" batter! Not like the armour plating that most places seem to turn out nowadays. Friendly staff, and a decent sized mug of tea if you eat in! Problems???? The car park is a tad crowded but that's because the place is so popular and a lot of drivers seem to need an artic's worth of room to maneouvre in. Update... STILL wonderful!!

The fish at this place is always fantastic Called in last night but was shocked to be told that coming up soon was a minimum spend on a card of £15 !!! Yea that’s right To say I was shocked is an understatement. I know fish and chips are expensive but still ! As a single person I couldn’t possibly eat 2 lots of fish and chips so maybe this is a single person tax ! To add insult to injury the assistant informing me also told me it was 30p a transaction and the cost of the card machine was £1000 per year. This didn’t sound too much to me ?£1000 per year equates to £19 per week - divide that by 7 days equates to £2.74 per day ! when you think about how many people buy from this shop in a week that cost must be pence. Whilst I can see that overheads at times need to be reviewed to maintain profits . I’m not interested to hear about how the business spends or makes money I’m interested in the quality of the end product. If there’s a need to add 20p for fish and 10p for chips do it ! They have a loyal following and open long hours - so I’m sure a small price increase wouldn’t matter - but telling people they have to spend £15 min is too much to hear and it’s making me think I should perhaps go elsewhere

Stopped here on a Sunday bike ride. Its just off the Greenway path so is quite convenient. They have outdoor seating and a bike rack. Got Fish and Chips, and it was lovely. Fish was nicely cooked and the chips were fine. Ate it all. My friends couldn't even finish their chips as there were so many. They do have a few tables inside so you can eat in, but it's pretty minimal and a bit cheap looking in there. Would definitely consider stopping off again on a bike ride :-)

Food is always over cooked and disappointing. Batter is dark and sticky and the fish is dry. Only redeeming feature is that it’s open later than most fish and chip places.

I had fish, chips and a curry sauce. The fish was really dry, and burnt on the edges; either it was overcooked or had been kept warm for a long time. Very disappointing for how much they charge. The chips were average, had better, had worse.

Nice friendly staff fast service

Went today for fish and chips nothing unusual for me on a Friday only this Friday I left my wallet on a bench outside totally unaware. Had a phone call from police saying that the golden fish handed in to them cards and money intact. So a big thank you to all the staff will be in next Friday.

Often driven by this place on way to Huddersfield. Decided to pop in and order takeaway fish. What a huge disappointment the fish was awful!! Think the oil they fry the fish in, needs changing! Won’t be returning waste of £5.65 !!

Quite literally the nicest fish and chips… we go all the way from Oakenshaw…. Always clean and I love the fact there’s seating outside for the rare nice days we have. Their curry sauce is an absolute MUST!

Always use this place and sometimes eat in. Just lately the there seems to be to much batter on and got very soggy so not sure what's changed as been like this the last 3 times. Usually scrape the batter off and the fish is fine. Fingers crossed they sort it.

Found it's gone down in quality,long wait for fish n thought outside batter crisp,inside was not.peŕhaps new staff/fryer was the problem. Changes happen I guess?.

Hoped for some nice fish and chips for a family supper. Unfortunately the batter on the fish wasn't cooked well, so we were left with mouthfuls of raw batter. Chips were OK but the meal ruined by the poor batter/cooking. So disappointing.

Got a fish and chips from here for works tea got a foul fishy smell coming from side door but thought nothing of it went in entrance to buy the food at first interaction staff seemed a bit funny serving me and I asked for small fish and chips she explained they don’t do small fish but do chips then the fish and chips I got where small anyways for the price of what I got defiantly we’re a small fish and chips my order was a small curry and can of pop and the fish a chips for £9.25 not worth it couldn’t eat it personally to be honest tasted funky chips soggy in the bin it went what a let down from this fish and chip shop and a waste use to be good but won’t be going here again.

Called in today for fish and chips. It didn't say what kind of fish on the menu. Was it haddock or cod.? I forgot to ask. The fish was a bit wet so I guess it was cod. I don't like cod I prefer haddock. The van with the raw fish arrived and the registration of the van was COD.

Beautiful chips, very pricey n miserable staff

Bought a medium special and chips costing £10:80 the special fish was £ 850 and was not much bigger if any bigger than a no normal fish elsewhere, chip portion was definitely the smallest portion of chips I have been served from any chip shop locally, the quality was ok not great , my conclusion is well overpriced will not be returning.

I don’t understand all the reviews raving about this place? We thought we would give it a go based on the reviews and we were so disappointed. The chips were undercooked and tasteless, the fish was rubbery, tasteless and the batter tasted burnt and hanging off. Scraps all went in the bin as they tasted burnt also. Portions are also tiny and only come in one size. Service was quick but the food sucked for £15. Will not return unfortunately!
