Best fish and chips in batley and desent price

Awful oil drenched, undercooked chips. When you arrive home expecting the children to enjoy their evening meal, extremely disappointed. The chips were not edible when you ring up to speak to the manager. The manager is away so you then ring back to speak to him. The worst management you can come across. Extremely rude and expects you to come back and get an exchange of chips because the fish is fine. When you ask who you are speaking to ie name you get a rude response shouting down the phone I told you 2 minites ago who I am. Talks over you and is the rudest you can imagine Wow. Avoid this eatery at all costs. Waste of money and poor/rude management.

Rubbish customer service... not from the area asked if took card, declined and turned their back on me. Tried asking where nearest ATM was wasn't acknowledged and turned her back on me.

Chips undercooked, flys bothering you when eating and staff aren’t very polite or talkative, maybe just a one off but doubt I’ll go again

Great prices for decent portions of tasty food, fish cooked to order. Fast service everytime. If you order the Super jumbo, make sure you are VERY hungry or sharing, it comes in a pizza box sized container, it's a monster! First time I have ever been defeated by a portion of fish and chips.

Decent, well priced. However the staff can get carried away chatting to customers and its quite annoying being ignored when you need to order your food. I was literally stood around for 10 minutes while the staff behind the counter had a good nattering, still gets a 5 star - but needs improvement there.

Food is always really good here and the quality is impeccable. Was hoping the one in glasgow would be the same as this branch had set the bar very high but sadly the glasgow one has food that you cannot even call food ( it was so bad).

Went in at 8.15 staff was miserable didn’t really wanna talk used to get chips with buttys but hey cost of living now I would’ve ordered if I knew asked for salt and vinegar on my things as we can’t put our own on but wow was really scarce peas were really dry not a good experience

Menu does not state if its Cod or Haddock being purchased. It just states Fish. I asked what fish it was and a member of staff said it was haddock being served. However what I received did not taste like Haddock, I thought it was likely pollock, which is a cheap white fish prone to parasites. Also the chips had what I thought was a thick dry skin when i was eating them. This may have been caused by the potatoes being peeled the previous day.

We had a lovely family outing here. The best fish and chips with a good sized dining area to eat in. All of the staff were friendly and even helped bring our order to the table. Thankyou for a tasty meal.

They don't accept cards and refused to take my Scottish bank notes. Very disappointing. I had to drive to the next chip shop along which was excellent!

Visit date: 23/12/2023. Fish bites and chips is a different portion size to other branches (5 instead of 6) but price is the the same (£6.45). Does not sell Fish burgers like other branches.

Not a good place to visit if you have not got cash because they don't take card so have a think 1st if you are visiting the batley shop.

Very disappointing that they do not take card payment. I appreciate it is no fault of the staff but we were looking forward to our fish and chips and to be told cash only was disappointing.

Ordered on UberEats as there was an offer running so thought we’d give it a go. The food was absolutely spot on. Fish and chips were delicious, barely any oil. The curry sauce was also amazing. Fish and chips is a massive portion, you won’t be leaving hungry. We’ll definitely be ordering again from here, very good value. For those moaning about cash only, surely you just order on UberEats?

Best fish & chips! It's consistently very very good. Juicy flaky fresh tasting fish enveloped in a golden crispy batter. Never oily. Perfect! The prices have gone up a bit though and a few times the sizes have not been consistent.

This review is based on all aspects of going here and not just based on the food alone. First off, though, to get it out the way, the food, as always, is fantastic. The chips, sausage, and fish are always cooked perfectly, and I honestly can't fault this part of it. Parking is horrendous for here, though. There are very few spaces available for you to park in, and often get taken for long periods of time for people who dine-in making it near impossible at times to park up properly without blocking further access for people to get through the tight alley of a car park. This really should be expanded upon, or at least highlighted, the best place to park if full. Space inside the building is quite good, and if you are dining in, there will be plenty of space to fit you in. In reality, this will probably be enough space for around 20-30 people. The staff, though, always keep the place looking very clean and are always attentive to taking orders for new customers whilst delivering on people who have already ordered. I would highly recommend it here if you are in the area, but just be aware of the terrible parking situation at this location.

Used to be my favourite Fish & Chips locally but not anymore. Quality has dropped lately and just not as consistent. Chips were dry and hard on the last two visits and the fish also not up to par. Does not justify the prices. Will not be ordering from here again for a while.

Genuinely astonished. Travelled 5 miles out of my way as the usual chippy was closed near me. Placed my order to be advised they’re ‘cash only’. I thought I was being fooled at first, but no…..I’ve travelled to 3 continents in the last 12 months, from South Africa to Rome and not needed to carry a cent in cash. Yet here we are, in 2023, sunny Batley and they’ve yet to discover card payments. Given all the covid challenges you’d think they’d be desperate to keep sanitation to the max and handle as little cash as possible. £30 spent elsewhere….

Fish was not cooked properly and raw, very disappointed, I called to complain, was told someone will call me but nothing received yet. Bad experience, not happy at all.

Friendly staff, top notch fish n chips with plentiful portions. Sit down but could do with cushioned seats, cosier ambience and a public unisex lavatory(tho staff one is ok)

Ordered 2 x fish and chips today at 5pm on the 1/1/23 and had to say the standard has dropped incredibly. The fish was rubbery and the batter had all flaked off onto the chips. It seemed like the oil hadn't been changed in a while either. Won't be returning unfortunately.

At £8.95 for the standard fish 'n' chips it's nearly £2.50 more expensive than my local chippy at Gomersal, but I have to say that the fish was exceptionally good (probably the best I've had tbh) and the chips were pretty much perfect - none of those hard overcooked dog-ends you often get served when they've been sat around for an hour. Not sure they are good enough to justify the price tag, but it is the only fish 'n' chippy in the area that is open 'til late.

I was craving fish n chips and was not disappointed! The portions are big and the food was delicious. We ordered over the phone with a large order. The food was ready on time and packaged well. This is the place to go in Batley for good fish n chips.

We were three person to have food there, food was delicious and testy, one may like to visit it frequently. Eat and take food at home, is a good system at Mother Hubbnard's, I liked it.

Absolutely amazing, tried this branch for the first time by far its the best fish n chip's I've ever had in Yorkshire. Would highly recommend this Mother Hubbards branch. Great friendly staff and very clean and tidy dinning area. 5 stars service and food.
