6 years after giving a negative review for an underwhelming take away, I'm revising my review. We ate in the restaurant last night and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We had crispy duck, prawn toast, prawn crackers, shedded crispy beef, sweet and sour pork, egg fried rice and chips. Far too much food for two people admittedly but delicious, faultless food. Generous portions, great service and atmosphere too. Deserves 5 stars. We'll return.

Great little place; friendly staff and good food reasonably priced. Recommended, child friendly and decent 'English' menu if one of the party isn't in to Chinese.

We had a lovely meal this week at the Golden Dragon, very tasty and reasonably priced. Service was excellent by friendly staff. I suggest they change the window dressing to make it more appealing. Thank you for a delightful evening.

Years since I had a good Chinese supper and I was not disappointed when I visited recently. So much so that I went again the following evening. Excellent choice of dishes and good value considering. Not hassled. Don’t be put off by waiting between courses because it’s all cooked fresh when you are ready. Not busy because, as with many places nowadays, not frequented as often as pre-lockdown and peoples’ habits have changed. Would definitely revisit if in the area again.

Spacial chiew main is a large portion Spacial curry spicy very enjoyable would order again. We are currently on holiday here.

Love this place , only ever had a take away but the indoor seating looks great , everyone looked happy , food is amazing ,staff are great and with good prices what more do you need

This was the first time we had ordered a takeaway meal from the Golden Dragon, whilst staying nearby on a family holiday, and it was superb. We will definitely order again when we are back in Chapel, or maybe eat in next time.

Absolutely delicious food. We had the B banquet and we were not disappointed by our choice. All the courses were delicious, hot and well worth it. I particular enjoyed the pawn toast and the rice as part of the final course.

Called in for the 1st time tonight for a takeaway so glad I did . Crisp Beef extra hot and a Beef Sezchuan extra hot .Both dishes excellent in taste and quality . Safe to say I will definitely be calling in again very soon

Visited Saturday night , restaurant was relatively busy , staff working very hard, could have done with one more to relax the atmosphere…. Food was excellent, combo starter, salt n pepper fillet steak , crispy duck all excellent…. Mains very good but trumped by the starters,,,,,,,, customer service very good , however staff need to relax 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We went into this restaurant on Wednesday 16th November to order a takeaway. First time we were having a Chinese take in a long time, as unfortunately in the area of Norfolk we come from the Chinese is not good. The smell on the way back to our hired cottage was longer than anticipated as I managed to get onto the wrong road. Anyway the food was excellent, it was well worth the wait. My wife and I would highly recommend the food in this restaurant and only wish we lived nearer. When we come again to stay in this area we will pay you a visit.

Food was really nice and hot. The staff were great and provided Table service, salt and pepper fillet steak was amazing.

Very quiet in the restaurant but people in collecting takeaway meals regularly. We had prawn toast, chicken satay, crispy shredded beef, honey ribs, salt and pepper chicken, Singapore vermicelli, sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour king prawns. Food was superb, piping hot, plentiful portions and good menu. Staff attentive and polite. Can't fault it.

Have been visiting The Golden Dragon for many years. Returned after a while recently and really enjoyed it. As good as ever. The lady owner is lovely and so welcoming too. Support your local restaurants.

Staying in an out of the way B&B, a failed taxi and a failed Uber to get to a restaurant in Castleford for dinner, out last resort was a delivery from the soon to close Golden Dragon, they accommodated us, and they really should have been our first choice, the food was amazing, best shredded crispy beef and salt and pepper chips I've ever had! Apologies the photo is of rhe mostly eaten portion 😂 but too good not to share!!

Worst takeaway ever chips dryer than the desert food not even warm the mixed grill didn't even look like one covered in sauce the sausages were horrible really mushy the peas felt like they were from weeks ago. The bacon was really dry and no taste whatsoever the egg felt like it was cooked hour's before hand.

Just had a lovely meal here. The staff were very friendly. The food was delicious. Despite the restaurant being small and they had a Birthday party in, we managed to get seated and food arrived quickly.

I have ordered a number of times from here and each time it has been delicious. The food is well packaged, hot and correct every time. The staff are lovely and during COVID they have had a great system in place. The taste of the food is as it should be and remains consistent (very tasty) and is my go to takeaway every time. I always have the second half the next day as there is plenty for the great price.

The Golden Dragon offers several marvellous vegan tofu options, which the kitchen will prepare with great care for vegans. Such as vegetable Mapo tofu, or deep fried tofu in sweet and sour sauce, or even mixed vegetable Singapore Vermicelli, made with no egg and with tofu added. Another favourite is mixed veg in Szechuan style made with tofu. It's great to have such variety. The quality of all these dishes is exceptionally high, making them good value, I believe. The staff are delightfully friendly, helpful and professional, and the food is almost always ready bang on time. I would highly recommend the Golden Dragon for these marvellous delicious nutritious vegan meals.

Well worth the 13 quid that includes crispy duck Courses are Soup, then duck spring rolls, crispy duck, a dish each with rice and chips and ice cream. I can’t make it for that price. The sweet and sour chicken is fab

Initially tried to order a take away for collection over the phone but the landline was never picked up with a voicemail message telling callers to ring back. So attended in person to place order. With the amount of staff stood around when I entered the restaurant I’m unsure why one of them couldn’t have answered the phone? It was fairly busy, but I wouldn’t have expected it to take nearly 50 minutes to complete my order. They also seemed a little confused about whether I had even ordered in the first place after I had been waiting for 30 or so minutes. Seemed to have a lot of young staff but disorganised. The Kin Do ribs in the hot combination starter were inedible. All gristle. The sauce was thick and concealed and off putting. Chicken and mushroom dish was very bland. Again the sauce was congealed. The chicken was rubbery and actually felt ‘squeaky’ on eating. King prawn in black bean sauce was also quite tasteless. Egg fried rice was bland. The tastiest dish was the plain soft noodles! All in all disappointing and not worth the prices they charge. Will not return.

Visit tonight had takeaways food. Sweet sour chicken. The problem with this was the chicken was old over cooked it's was horrible. Experience keeping. And taking bk.tomorrow normal the food is good from here don't no why this happened. Buy the food was old. Chicken. Not fresh I've not eating any of it just rice this is a shame on the cheifs area. Don't serve food especially chicken you will poison sum one

Seen some strange google reviews - gave it a go anyway. Duck was amazing, as was the rest of the meal. Good service and friendly staff. Premises were a bit dated but otherwise no complaints at all

We were told we had to be out by a certain time before we even sat down. Two hours later we get our food. Hygene issues on delivery to the table by dragging clothing through the food. Waiting staff carry one plate at a time and don't have any manners. Poor service and poor experience.

Visited for a family meal... didn't book and was told to be out by a certain time. That was fine but didn't expect to wait 45 mins for the starter and 30 mins for the main and for it to come out separate. Then someone dragged a tie through it. We then asked for one drink but no offer for the rest of the table. The manager then only offered us 5% off... £3.50 Will not be going back. Didn't help that the waiting on staff didn't even smile.

We were staying in the area and ordered our meal by phone. Collected in 20 mins later. Very nice veggie chow mein and veggie spring rolls. Would recommend.

Just had a lovely meal off the Early Bird menu. Excellent value and beautifully cooked and well presented. Very calming atmosphere and attentive service.

The best Chinese we've ever had. Sweet and sour chicken was crispy enough (not at all soggy!) with REAL chicken, not processed as I've had previously from other places. We had a takeaway from here at 10:15PM on a Saturday and everything was perfect. Staff are very friendly. Couldn't have asked for more. Highly recomended A++++

We found this restaurant by chance. The early bird tea time menus are well worth arriving before 7.30 pm for. Delicious food and a good selection. Warm prawn crackers were a real treat and the crispy duck was definitely worth ordering.

We got a take away of eleven items. The food tasted delicious BUT, although the staff were friendly and helpful, the wait was rediculously long (50 minutes) and most of the food; lemon chicken, rice, salt & pepper chips, sweet & sour chicken was like warm even as we set off back home. And while we waiting, the staff were told not the answer the phone anymore: bad luck for anyone wanting to book a table or order a take away given that the place had only been open for 35 minutes at that time of day.

best chinese ive had for a long time. we ordered by telephone and picked it up. All the dishes were very tasty not greasy we all enjoyed the meal it was very good would recommend.

myself and some friends went to this restraint for a meal we were there for 3 hrs the service was very bad 4 times during the evening there was a very strong smell of burnt food floating through the restraunt I did not rate the food and will not be visiting again

Enjoy take away meals regularly. A bit dearer than the local competition but the quality is superior. Ever so friendly staff and always dead on time. Could do with cutting back on the salt content, otherwise very good ingredienses and well cooked.

We have used this restaurant whenever we want to eat Chinese food and have received excellent food and service. Last evening four of us chose Banquet A, which is from the tea time menu, available until 7:30pm. We had booked the table in advance as it soon fills up on Friday and weekend evenings. We had an excellent meal with everything well cooked and tasty. The four course early menu cost just £21 per head plus the cost of a bottle of wine. Not only that, the staff were welcoming and efficient.

Visited recently as a party if seven. Have dined here a number of times and have never been disappointed and our recent visit was no exception.

Reasonable/average food, after 1.5 hours waiting 3 people out of 6 had only been served soup.Two children were with us and had not been served, asking several times did not speed up the service the staff were just wandering aimlessly around. I nearly walked out, which is a rare experience for me. If you go here with children keep on top of your order.The Resteraunt was not overly busy. This is the first time I have put a mediocre review on Tripadvisor.

We only came across this restaurant by chance as we were staying in the town for one night and looking for somewhere to eat. What a pleasant surprise to find such a great restaurant run by friendly people. The food and the service were excellent and they made the effort to ask us what style of food we liked and how we preferred it cooking. I will certainly visit here again when I get the chance.

Been visiting The Golden Dragon since our son was 2, he's now a teenager and we visit with our 5 year old too. The staff are always friendly & helpful, always great with the kids, and the food is fantastic. The teatime special is good value for money and makes wait g out as a family affordable.

This was one of the worst Chinese meals I've ever eaten. We had takeaway which I waited an extra 15 mins for, it was cold and tastes awful! The ribs on the combination starter were disgusting. The beef in oyster sauce was more like boiled beef with the odd mushroom. The prawn toast was chewy and the seaweed was terrible. The only good part of our meal was the prawn crackers.

Far better meal than previous visits. Couldn't believe how busy it was for a Saturday. Had Kung Po which was fabulous. So busy particularly take away so all these people can't be wrong

Visited this Chinese last evening. We usually go here and it's always lovely but last nights meal was OUTSTANDING! It was delicious, fresh and not greasy at all (like some take aways can be sometimes). When a family treats themselves to a take away it really can be an expensive gamble. This Chinese is excellent value for money and it is where we are always guaranteed of a lovely meal. Thank you to all at the Golden Dragon! Yum! Soooo fresh and tasty!

By far the best chinese food i have tasted in the uk

Our party of four dined at around 6.30pm on New Years Eve & we found it an enjoyable experience. The staff were very friendly & helpful & they went out of their way to make sure our visit was a good one. Our drinks were kept topped up & there always seemed to be a waiter or waitress available when needed. We each had a banquet & although the food wasn’t spectacular, it was quite passable.

I found the food either too salty or bland. The only tasty dish being the crispy duck which was the regular affair. I was more disappointed by the service which gave the impression we were an inconvenience rather than customers. It was a weekday evening but no excuse for that. I've been several times but now more choices in Chapel I'll think again

Nice food however staff lets this place down! there is one lady and one man who can do their job, the rest just look nervous and always a new member of staff there. had the set meal, was lovely. Slightly on the expensive side when having a take away, much betetr to do the set meal and sit inside

We ordered a takeaway and did not sit in the restaurant (although it was very quiet at just before 6pm on a Wednesday evening). Our food was delicious, full of flavour and just what we expected. It did not take long from ordering for our food to be ready. The food was good value and not at all expensive, pretty average for a Chinese takeaway.

Estoy en las dietas médicas así siempre preocupado por visitar un lugar nuevo. Nos cuestionamos el camarero y discutido mis alergias, etc. Cuando llegó la comida era bastante aburrido y no muy sabroso. (Quizás no eran nervioso añadiendo sabor en caso de que me hizo enfermo) no parecen tener un gran número de clientes habituales a juzgar por el ruido de comedor de mesa a mesa de Chatter. Una cosa a su favor, que no tenía una reacción alérgica.

Very slow service for a takeaway. Ordered the food on the phone, gave them 35-40 to prepare as they stated and then waited a further 20min in the restaurant for at best average food. Last order from them.

Este lugar tiene una preciosa oferta de reserva anticipada. No puedo recordar el tiempo que creo que antes de las 7, pero no puedo estar seguro. Está a 6 platos. Cuando digo 6 es de galletas y sopa para el primer plato. Luego barbacoa y costillas picantes para segundo y tercer curso. Luego te dan tu plato principal de su elección del menú y el helado de postre. El precio es muy bueno. Los niños pueden tener una comida china o hacen un plato enorme de nuggets de pollo y patatas fritas (uno sería suficiente para dos niños). Nos gusta mucho aquí y encontrar una gran relación calidad-precio. No hay aparcamiento directa, ya que en la carretera, pero mucho en la calle de al lado.

Called here with family, mixed reaction to the dishes we chose. I enjoyed my meal, but the stir fries with steak were tough, and the sweet and sour meals were dry. The staff were excellent.

Classic chinese with its (bit boring) menu. Nice enough welcoming and friendly staff. OK interior, its all a quick fix buta decent place. All Chinese restaurant and take aways could do with a closer look at the level of salt used in the cooking: its huge! Time to have a think: nutrition knowledge have gone forward! Would go back? Yes. Good to have round the corner

New residents to the area so thought we would visit the Golden Dragon. It was 18:00 hrs and we were the first diners of the evening. The service was not good. Waited 20 mins for our drinks! We ordered the early bird menu. Soup was tasty, mixed platter needs improving, the prawn toasts were hard and greasy, and the ribs were cool !!!!!! Mains were ok but nothing special.

They do a fabulous teatime banquet

We went for the early bird banquet menu. Enjoyed the soup and thought the spring rolls were tasty, the duck was shredded at the table which was a nice touch but the pancakes just served on a plate rather than in a steamer basket, just a minor point but did let it down. The main courses we ok, but very salty. We ordered two black coffees, we didn't drink them as it didn't taste like freshly ground coffee, upon checking we were proudly told it was instant! The service was friendly and we were not rushed but the whole experience was average.

We had great service there, great food and was it really quiet due to being quite late so we had quick service but the staff were all really helpful and friendly and didn't act as if they were in a rush to go home and we were an inconvenience

We visited the Golden Dragon yesterday evening and had a great time. The food was excellent and the service efficient but also relaxed and friendly. Our waiters were quite young but they managed to be unobtrusive but always there when needed. We enjoyed a shared platter for our starter along with the Prawn Dumplings, and everything was tasty and delicious. Our main courses were Sea Bass, the house special fried rice and crispy chilli beef in a bird's nest. Portions were generous and again it was all really good. We are in the area on holiday for a week and will probably return more than once!

went to the Golden Dragon recently with a group of friends and was really happy with the quality of food and service and also the prices. I don't think the exterior of this establishment is quite as tempting as it could be but the interior is great and the young friendly staff are really attentive and friendly.The early bird menu is great value and we will return

A very nice meal with the family. It was a busy Saturday evening and all tables, like ours, seemed to be enjoying good, friendly service.

Re visited here and found it great. Think there may be new management The staff were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant was warm and cosy. We all had the early bird special which was fresh and tasty and plentiful. They were accommodating to my allergies and made special dishes. Price was reasonable and are going again this Friday. Worth a visit.

We visited the Golden Dragon as a family for the early evening menu. Although the food was ok'ish we felt we were rushed through the courses so that the restaurant could be got ready for the evening trade - dont think we will be back.

Have been here quite a few times and been delighted. This visit however was not enjoyable. We went for the early bird set menu. The waitress didn't seem to understand the menu as I asked for no sauce on the Mixed platter and it arrived with sauce so i couldn't eat the ribs. It seemed smaller than normal. The drinks order was messed up even though only two of us and she brought three glasses !! My friend wanted sliced lemon in his drink and this was forgotten. The drink was then whisked away to have lemon added. Thought it would have been sent on a little plate. After the mixed starter the side plates were taken even though we were using them for the prawn crackers. Mine even had food on when it was taken. We had to wait along time for the mains that were nothing special. My egg fried rice was stringy and my friends just looked and tasted like boiled rice. Very bland. We left alot this time. I will visit again in a few weeks as don't want to write this place off. Hope it improves.
