The Golden Chip in Taunton Deane

Waited for over an hour for the food after being told there were only 2 orders in front of mine! I was told it would not take long for delivery. Awful.

Had yet another fantastic meal from the Golden Chip, our favourite Chinese restaurant just outside Taunton. Highly recommended!

This used to be the best Chinese around. Quick delivery piping hot fresh food. Sadly no more.The last few weeks the service has been shoddy, food cold, waiting time ridiculous. No card payments on the phone then when you phone as still waiting. They say it’s better to phone the order in, but they only take cash on the door!! As we all know most people don’t have cash!! That’s a weekly order from customers of 4 years plus lost.

Had a takeaway tonight for the first time, very impressed. Piping hot food, excellent quality, lots of choice. Will definitely be returning.

It's like a takeaway out of time, if that time was the 1970s or the 1990s. Fast service and a huge menu of traditional English-Chinese food. I like fried rice and chips but I am basic. It's been here for ages and is a part of the local food landscape.

We've ordered from Golden Chip 3 or 4 times now. Their food is always fresh, tasty, and served quickly. A safe bet.

First time of ordering quick delivery and very tasty couldn’t fault it will order again. From ordering to delivery the ladies were lovely.

Has been so good for a while but this latest order was delivered very quickly. We had duck which looked anaemic, not like it normally would. Suspicious of how fresh it was this time. So, not confident about this going forward. We will try another order but if it is the same then we won’t be spending hard earned cash here again.

Ordered online, on their own website, spent £50+. Didnt have to wait too long. Started to dish the food out...missing part of the order. Called them...line busy. Called again...he apologised and said looks like the driver had gone back out again, so hopefully coming to us. 10 mins later...still nothing; we literally live not even 5 mins away. Called again, "oh, have you not received it yet"....another 8 minutes later, said missing order turned up...we'd already eaten the rest, as were hungry. So missing order was not eaten. Total waste of money. Wont be using again

had chips from this place tonight and had to put them in the bin they were horrible never had chips so bad do not use

Terrible chips, and they were yesterdays reheated. Asked for pancake roll got a few mini spring rolls. There were three of us spend a vast amount for absolute vile chips. Please don't waste your time. We threw food away inedible. Disgusting. Shame it used to be a great chippy back in the day

If I could give zero stars I would. You would not think that sausage & chips plus a curry sauce would so difficult to get right. Undercooked frozen chips and undercooked frozen sausages. The curry sauce was just about passable. As for the price, I consider £14.60 to be an absolute con (4 small plain sausages, 2 med chips and 2 curry sauces) I could name at least 3 other chip shops locally where you would pay no more than £10.00 for the same ingredients. I will never use this shop again.

Awful food... meat quality is shocking. Honey and garlic chicken might as well just drink a pot of honey.. extremely disappointed

My partner arrived to be told that there was no fish due to supply issues. We live on an island surrounded by the sea…..what is the problem! I had chicken and chips instead. The chicken was ok but the chips were soggy and undercooked….urgh. Consequently, I didn’t/couldn’t eat all of them and the ones I did eat lay heavy in my stomach. Won’t be going back….no fish and can’t cook chips properly….waste of time!

Had a selection of small portioned meals, which all remarkably tasted the same! Special fried rice had six prawns in it for £6.80. Very disappointing.

Quite possibly my favourite ( post from a few years back ) 25/02/23 Got chips here a few months back and they were like fried oven steak chips deep fried. Thought maybe stock ran low so they used them as a temporary measure on that occasion. Fair enough if that were the case, it happens I get that. Left it a few months. Gone back tonight and still the same oven chips deep fried. Such a shame. Place seems to be going very downhill. Used to come here without question. Won't be coming back here again. When you run a chip shop you'd expect chips to be top notch like they used to be.

We had a home delivery into Taunton ,arrived in time and still hot also a pleasant lady delivered. We have struggled to find a Chinese delivery that we all actually like, they met all are expectations !! Will definitely be using them in future!!! Thankyou Golden Chip 😁

Ordered and all cooked on time ready for collection. Arrived home after 20 minutes it was hot n tasty. Lovely egg fried rice, sweet n sour chicken and beef in green pepper and a black bean sauce. Staff lovely. Nothing to complain about. Many thanks

20 minutes for a medium portion of chips. Absolutely ridiculous… another woman in there had been waiting 30 minutes for her order. If you want quick service this is not the place to go. I understand it’s done order by order however surely you can cook the smaller orders while your bigger orders are in cooking. I think your system of serving needs reviewing…

Best Chinese I have ever eaten.

Stopped here as working locally Chicken balls under cooked, however actually pretty tasty. The chips were also really under cooked, could do with another 5-10mins in the fryer The curry and rice tasted very bland and for the first time in my life had to add salt and pepper to a Chinese meal Girl serving was nice and friendly

Very friendly staff. There is a little parking at the rear If the front lay-by is full. Good FnC and good Chinese options. Telephone orders taken and this is the best way to order especially when busy. Service is quick nonetheless.

Probably the best Chinese takeaway food we have had, consistently excellent from ordering to delivery and to the ingredients and flavours. We have tried lots of dishes and have never been disappointed. All made fresh and delivered hot! Very generous portions as we can never quite finish it and generally save some for the next day. Our faves are the dry special fried rice, the ribs, the mixed starter is amazing! Super speedy from order to delivery too 😁 there is parking if you would rather pickup

Easily the best Chinese takeaway in and around Taunton. Does take a little longer than others, but always tasty and big portions.

This was my first and sad to say it last order from this establishment. Ordered Chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce and a special fried rice. The balls were very undercooked raw dough in middle and very lightly cooked. And the special fried rice had nothing special init a few shreds of pork and chicken about 7 peas and a bit or egg. Not great for the £17 paid for it. Please try harder

I have given the golden chip a 1 star because we spend 15 minutes going through there website ordering process and it did not ask for a location until the end. We added our google pay and then it asked for our address and told us that they do not deliver to bishops lydeard which is not even 10 minutes away! On the other hand they have a good easy to use website, but should ask for address first.

Good food and service, reasonable prices

Gave me the wrong order. Took it back, tried to give me my order that they gave to the wrong customer. I refused asked for fresh due to Covid. After 15mintues waiting, cooked the wrong order again. Refund and left. Won’t be returning

Two roast duck curries, but it closer to 2 vegetable curries

We recently moved to the area from the Midlands and decided to try these guys. Honestly the food was delicious. I found it so much easier being able to order Chinese food and chip shop food from one place! Having 3 kids it’s not always easy to find a take out that can satisfy all of our needs, but this place sure did. Thank you!

Great fish and chips amazing sweet and soure chicken balls and great cheese burgers .easy to park up outside .and very covid safe with big plastic screens dividing the staff from the customer 👏

Used to be a fish and chip outlet but now under new Chinese owners. We normally go to South Dragon in town centre so decided to try same two dishes we like best there. I had Duck and Broccoli. Vegetable and sauce identical but duck inferior as shredded and lot of skin whereas usually I get generous slices of breast meat and 50p cheaper. My wife's S&S chicken balls were very good but sauce thin and watery and 70p pricier than rivals. To sum up this place is okay but unexceptional and we won't be changing.from our regular takeaway.

Last 3 meals have been so flavoursome. Will be returning again in 2 weeks! Now our favourite Chinese over the one at Lydeard and the one at Galmington.

Only just discovered this takeaway during the latest lockdown. Lovely Chinese food each time we've ordered (and the chips were excellent as well 😊 ) and at a reasonable price! Delivery quick and painless so The Golden Chip has now definitely been added to our list of 'go to' takeaway places in and around Taunton. Highly recommended.

Great food. Four of us had Chinese and the other one had chip shop chips. It all went down a treat. Recommended. (Phone order).

My household had take away fish and chips from here and it was awful! The buggers consisted of just plastic cheese, a patty that didn’t even fit the bun, sad looking lettuce and Mayo - no tomato, cucumber, relish, anything to make it something at least decent! They didn’t put salt and vinegar on the chips even though requested and the chips themselves were awful and tasted of nothing but fat to the point we all left them as they even had an awful gloppy texture. We also asked that a piece of battered fish be cooked fresh when we ordered to only watch them pull it out the cabinets after 20 minutes of waiting so had to re request which meant all of the food was cold on arrival! Mushy peas were also definitely not fresh or anything decent, just sloppy and snotty! Won’t be going back, especially after us all being up all night feeling ill from it!

I have been ordering food from the Golden chip for around 2 years now. The food is very good from what I have tried, with one or two occasions letting this down; which has mostly when I have ordered chips that have been slightly undercooked. There's a decent selection on the menu which is very fairly priced; with portion sizes being very good - although smaller than they used to be. The food is never overly greasy and has always been served hot. When visiting, the Golden Chip always looks clean and the staff are friendly. I usually order ahead for a collection unless just going for chips, and there can be a wait from 15 to 30 minutes at busy times. Overall, this is a fairly priced restaurant that produces a tasty selection of food, and would get a full 5 stars if it wasn't for the odd occasion when the chips have let them down.

Genuinely one of the worst fish and chips of my whole life! Anaemic greasy chips. Curry sauce tasted like someone emptied five spice into a weird greasy pool of muck. Batter was inedible. Haddock full of bones. Battered sausage inedible. What an absolute waste of money! Egg fried rice may as well not be fried! Just white rice with some egg in!

This has always been a good, reliable chinese takeaway & chip shop. Clean food and always a fast & friendly service.

Come here often and the staff are all friendly - they know my name when I call so I don't know if that tells me I should order less or not haha! Food portions are very generous and tastes lovely, never takes long to get the order. They have a wide selection and they also provide English dishes such as fish and chips and pies.

Fantastic Chinese meals, Fantastic delivery, what more is there to say. Fish & Chips are the next try. Please keep up the fabulous food.

moved to Norton 6months ago and everytime we order, it can't be faulted. Quick and restaurant quality food. Best chinese in Taunton and I've tried alot of different places!

not the best of places i have been the food was very greasy and very strange. i ate a little but could not eat alot because of how fatty it was

Always liked their fish and chips, tried the chines food and was lovely. Freshly cooked.

Value for money takeaway. Not posh Chinese but for the price, it was value for money. We ordered on arrival and despite being busy, the food was ready in 10 minutes. It was hot, tasty and in generous portion sizes. Maybe not the healthiest of meals - but as an occasional treat at sensible prices, I would recommend it. Staff were cheerful and helpful which made it a good experience. It also appeared clean and hygienic which also encourages us to go back.

Really pleased these guys are now a Chinese too... really fab menu, a little more than other Chinese in the area and you can phone ahead to request specific ingredients be added or removed from certain dishes, which is really great!!

A good place to get a chinese takeaway, very friendly staff food cooked to order so always fresh, we go here twice a week and drive home 17 miles and the food is still hot, good portion size , I fully recommend trying this place. These are new owners who have only been in operation for 3 months

Always had very nice cod and chips from here but it’s the first time since the new owners or staff, chips were not pleasant and my cod was like yesterday’s reheat with extra batter then left to go rubbery, the fish itself was nothing like cod either. Sadly won’t be back again.

The Golden Chip now appears to be being run by all new staff and things have gone downhill. While the chips we had were decent, the battered sausages were very cheap and seemed undercooked. Our curry sauce tasted like satay sauce which was odd. Shame.

Food cooked to order (Chinese) and always hot on arrival home, some 5to6 miles. Batter on fish not greasy and good portions. Very clean and tidy.

Lovely little family owned and run chippy that sons enjoy as a treat every now and again. Little stock kept so nice and fresh, also has a Chinese takeaway as part of the same family. Parking to the front and rear of the restaurant makes for a quick pick up and go.
