South Dragon House in Taunton Deane

My family recently bought takeaway for this chinese shop, the portions of the curries were very small compared to the Zian Palace that we usually order from, ( unfortunately now closed) I ordered the spanish omelette, which should have consisted of egg, potatoes and onion, however what I received was nothing like I expected! It had ham, tomato, mushrooms, peas and some onion, I was hungry so I ate most of it but left the ham pieces. We will not be ordering from this takeaway again. Also they only take cash not debit cards, a bit old fashioned don't you think!

Small portions and fairly bland, especially compared to the recently closed Zian Palace, won't be ordering again.

First time trying this Chinese, absolutely delicious definitely found a new good one!

Just had a takeaway from this establishment of Chow mein and asked for NO BAMBOO SHOOTS in it as my wife has an allergy to them. Got home, opened the container, and in it were bamboo shoots. I will never ever go back there ever again. The staff cooking didn't have a bloody clue.

The beef curry is our weekly/ fortnightly treat and it never fails us.

placed a order for collection roughly 10 dishes on a saturday was told the wait would be 90 minutes, turned out to be over 2 hours . Total joke over 2 hours !!! . Would have expected the food to be excellent but wasn't anything special. Sorry but you seriously need to revise your business plan . I will not recommend you to anyone or ever use you again. I only ordered because I was told it was good. Big mistake

Very friendly, and clean. We ordered pork fried rice, extra spicy and my partner said it was okay but it needed a bit more seasoning. I had Kung po chicken which was also a little bit bland. We had extra crispy chilli beef: one of our favourites but this too was quite bland and needed more seasoning. Overall, I think is was 3/5. We did get free prawn crackers and two pancake rolls which was a nice touch but our mains didn’t really blow us away!

One of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had. Everything was bland and tasteless except the rice and noodles which tasted like burned oil. Prices drastically differ online to in store. Absolutely shocking.

Second time for a takeaway from here. Can't fault it. Ordering easy. Drlivered as expected. Every dish has its own flavour. Really enjoyed.

Single handedly the worst chinese I have ever had. There was nothing sweet and sour about the sweet and sour sauce, crispy beef was bland and tasted like cement, and spring rolls tasted like they had used them to wipe the floor. Spoke to a lady on the front desk, who then passed me onto a manager who had an awful attitude. Very condescending and I called him out for it. He could not accept how bad the food was. DO NOT ORDER A CHINESE FROM HERE! Go to the McDonalds or Mei's instead you'll be far better off. I've worked in catering before and you do not speak to customers the way that he did if you want people to come back. Appauled. Absolutely atrocious all round. Genuinely don't normally react to restaurants in this way but it really was that bad. Half of it went in the bin.

Arrived and was told would be 20 minutes. Left to do a few other jobs came back and still wasn’t ready. There was one others woman before me who had two dishes and she was waiting just as long as me. Yet another Kasey walked in ordered and within 5 minutes left. !!!!! Not sure I’m going to go there again !

Absolutely dreadful, I'm sorry to say. A lovely lady greeted us; however, was not the one who served us, she shouted through for another young lady. The customer service was horrendous, there were no manners and our food came out and nothing was said, it was just very hostile and unpleasant. Then when we got home and opened all the food ready to eat, it was a complete disappointment. We went for this as we are visiting the area and on the reviews it had the highest - I don't know how! The food was bland and tasted very much like it was just oil in a boil. The noodles were tasteless and the sweet and sour sauce was just like red oil. The Duck chow mein was bland and again tasted as though the oil had been spilt on it before they served it. Our spring rolls tasted dreadful and I can't put my finger in it, but I'm afraid I am very annoyed I spent so much there and can't get my money back because I didn't open it when I was there, as none of us would with a takeaway, so I don't want anyone else making this mistake. I feel physically ill and couldn't eat the food. It's a shame but I'm afraid myself and my partner felt this way.

Arrived 35 minutes early, messed up the order and food was bland and tasteless! Never wrote a review before!

I gave them an average as it was innofensive. Just bland and sloppy with an aweful lot of MSG (shiney shiney gloopy food!). Chickey satay was fine but the (mildly curry tasting) peanut sauce was gloopy and lacking in a single nut. Beef with cashews was drowned in a gloopy shiney grey sauce. Chewy beef. SF Rice was absolutely fine. Aromatic duck - fine again. Chilli shredded beef was super chewy and shiney. It's just the kind of "Chinese" that rural towns have come to accept as OK. It's not - I'd not order again. Please please can someone open an authentic Chinese?

Best Chinese takeaway in Taunton and miles beyond.

Recent travels gave me the opportunity to stay at Taunton and ordered a Chinese takeaway. Ordered a few dishes of what I thought was traditional Chinese food. But it turned out that the soft noodles (chow mein) special dish was cooked in sweet and sour sauce. This must be a Taunton style as I had travelled and eaten so much of stirred fried noodles and never cooked with sweet and sour sauce making it wet and sloppy. I didn't find it appealing to be honest as it was saucy. It is definitely not a traditional Chinese cuisine, but maybe a Taunton style. So the people of Taunton may like it.

Best Chinese in Taunton, I recommended it to all our guests.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!! Chicken curry was best I have tasted from a chinese. Chilli chicken hot but really tasty.

Never have we ordered from this takeaway before, but I will say I will be going back!!! The food arrived hot and fresh and each item on the plate had a unique flavour making the mea outstanding!! The portions are perfect and it’s enough to just fill 2 people’s belly :). We ordered sweet & sour chicken, chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, mini spring rolls and king prawn with mushroom!! Fast delivery and amazing food I highy recommend this place

After 100 attempts to place order over the phone , I went in and ordered , sat for half and hour... thought all this must be a good sign of a good take away, only to go home and get small portions/ small amounts of meat and tasteless sauce. Beef in black bean- was like gravy, no beans in sight. Spicy beef was not spicy and lacked any sweetness, just sticky from the honey type sauce. Very disappointed

Called up at 645 and they stated it would be ready at 730. Arrived at the time and they said it would be another 15 minutes. After that I still waited another 10 minutes for my food. Not impressed. Will be going Many Hos for bigger portions and better timings

I ordered a meal for collection and was told it would be ready by 8:30. I turned up just before and saw two people in the waiting area (i.e. not busy). By 8.35 they had their food and had gone, and I was told my order would be 5-10 mins. Eventually, at five to nine, we collected our food. I said at the time it wasn't good enough and in fairness to the owner he apologised and gave me 20% off our bill. However when I food home my meal and my wife's both tasted burnt. The only reason this isn't getting 1 star is because my parents enjoyed their food.

I'm sorry to say after tonight's meal one star is a bit much. Mixed meat satay chow mein tasted like a nasty cheap curry sauce from a chip shop. Broccoli in another dish boiled to a mush. Special rice dish so over drenched in the same on every meal generic sauce, disappointing ribs.... A really poor meal overall after several positive experiences in the past was quite a surprise. They refunded what I asked without argument, but it's enough to put me off for good.

South Dragon House is quite simply the best Chinese in Taunton. Used togo to any random one until I stumbled upon SDH about 18 months ago.Now I don't go anywhere else. Tonight we had Special Chow Mein and BBQ ribs.with prawn crackers. Absolute perfection. J

Excellent meal, good customer service, tasty food and they had no problems dealing with my food intolerances (gluten and dairy). The portions were a little smaller than some but to be honest, that's no bad thing! Thank you.

This is the 3rd time we have ordered from the south dragon house for food on a weekend when having friends and family round. The 1st time was a home delivery and the food was late by about 20 minutes, the 2nd time we decided to collect to to reduce delays, and the food was still late by 20 minutes. The last time and now our final time as we won't be going back again, we were told 40 minutes for collection over the phone, after arriving on time we spent a further 30 minutes waiting for food. Most of the time the food is good, however this time a piece of chicken was found in one of the vegetarian dishes! (A mixed vegetable curry/noodle dish). I feel very disappointed and will be going to another Chinese takeaway in the future.

Chips were fine, satay skewers were fine in a decent satay, but why was my beef satay in water? Also beef very rubbery and tastes like wet dog. I regret not knowing this as I'd not have bothered. A shame.

Generally this is a good quality takeaway for what you pay although unfortunately the quality and service can vary and there have been times we’ve been disappointed and let down by being given the wrong, over cooked or cold food. When brought to the attention of staff they apologised but were quite dismissive and put it down to being busy so not great customer service.

We've tried quite a few different Chinese takeaways in Taunton and this is definitely the best. Ordered from them lots of times and they are always friendly. Delicious food! Can be very busy at the weekend so might be a wait for delivery.

Thank the Lord Ben’s had his holiday, had to try a different Takeaway while he was away and came nowhere near. Fantastic food from a trusted establishment, never disappoints.

Make sure you have CASH as cards not accepted but worth the effort as really good food. Probably my favourite Chinese Takeaway in Taunton. Don't both going to any of the other good Chinese restaurants in the area as always enjoy the food from this one!

We were regular weekly customers until tonight! Upon placing our order we were told that they would not deliver to us in Kingston st Mary as they were to busy. This in my opinion is an unacceptable to pick and choose when and where to deliver to. This is not the first issue we have had!, but it will now be the last.

From the start wasn't particularly welcoming. Made to feel bad as didn't have the right money. Then short changed. (I noticed) then not even a sorry or thank you have a nice evening. Then got home and found I was given a wrong dish! The food was ok but without the service. Not for me, back to our original takeaway. They won't be seeing anymore of my cash!! Very disappointing...

Below par. Food was overly salty and had a horrid burnt taste throughout!?! Not sure how they managed this. Go to canton cuisine, top quality and you get what you pay for. Only ordered from South dragon as canton cuisine was closed! WON'T BE ORDERING HERE AGAIN! YUCK!

Lookiing for a good Chinese takeway in Taunton I tried this one for the first time, service was good and on time but unfortunately the food was lacking, 3 different dishes that all appeared cooked in the same sauce, wouldn't put people off but wouldn't recommend or go back either.

Terrible... traveled ten miles to order but once home the food was so spicy it was as if we were eating an Indian. £30 wasted. Phoned the takeaway and all the girl on the phone could say was sorry about that in the most unsympathetic tone.... would not recommend

We were very pleased with our meals. It is probably one of the best takeaways in Taunton. Even though the portions are smaller than in other Chinese places, the quality is definitely better. It is quite cheap as well. The only thing that could be improved is that they don't accept cards, you have to use cash.

Collected a takeaway 24/06/17. The food was top class unfortunately when I got home one dish was missing. The said dish was charged for on the receipt. I will use this place again but will definitely check the order before I leave.

Pretty disappointed with the Kung-Po chicken. More like spicy chicken in blackbean sauce than any Kung-Po I've had before and no nuts. House special fried rice had very bland chicken and only 1 small prawn.

I can not review the food because it didn't arrive, good communication on the phone,got a call to tell me my food would be 15 minutes late, unfortunately my meal did not come 30 minutes after the call, when I rang to query this the gentleman on the phone was apologetic, unfortunately profanity was clearly audible re my call. I will not order from them again.

I have been using this takeaway for years ,since it first opened as the Kowloon ,I worked In the garage opposite Dunns motors and used to finish work at 5.30pm and go over and get my meal ,this beyond doubt is the best takeaway I have ever used ,it's a family Run takeaway and the quality of food has always been excellent and I have been using it since the 70s and long my it continue

Maybe ot quite the old style Chinese some of us are used to this is slightly more up to date, they deliver which is great (phone early for Saturday night) The ingredients are so fresh , the vegetables in some of the dishes are excellent not mushy.Very Good

I used to get takeaways from here when it was called The Kowloon House and run by a super Chinese chap everyone called George.I usually get my Chinese from a Takaway in Wellington (7 miles away) but driving past the South Dragon I thought, why not, let's give it a try.Wow! I won't be driving to Wellington for my Chinese in future, the food was really, really good and the servings plentiful.

Think I'd consider myself a regular although still can't remember that it is no longer the Kowloon House as it was in the 90's. Loads of rubbish Chinese takeaways in Taunton, but South Dragon House is consistent and reliable. Previous reviews have mentioned Ben behind the counter, his humour has not changed in 20 years! It's a family run business that I am glad to support, and my kids love it too.

The fact that it's the busiest Chinese Takeaway in town must mean something?! Sometimes a bit of a wait, but who minds when the food is fresh, hit and great quality. after my last review praising this place, its with deep regret that i have too report that it has gone from hero to zero. since my last report i have tried to ring the silver dragon to book a home delivery, but to no avail. on four separate saturday evenings since, i or my wife, have tried from 5.30 to ring to order, only to find it is always engaged. the last time we at last got a answer at 6.50. we are dependant on home deliveries because of illness, and because we can't eat to late. i would like to think that because of my last review, south dragon house have increased in customers, if that is the case perhaps they could have another phone line installed, or have someone stand on the roof so i can contact them with lamps or flags. otherwise it looks as if it will be back to bloody kebabs.

Tried several takes aways in Taunton, this has to be by far the best. Had to wait 45 minutes for the food, however saw this as a sign of a good take away and wasn't disappointed when we had our food.

my brother-in-law introduced me to chinese meals back in the seventies, and always got them from here.Cant remember what it was called back in those days, we always referred to it has George's. we then moved down to the bottom of East reach to kens at the silver river because of parking outside georges,was impossible.Kens was the supremo curry house. so we stayed loyal to him, until he shut shop. since then we have tried numerous chinese takeaways, but to be honest the quality was very poor, so we went to kebabs, until recently passing silver street with my grandson he mentioned that he was mates with the son and how good their curries are, thought we would give it a tryand we have ended full circle. its a top notch takeaway.

This Chinese takeaway is the best we have tried in Taunton.First appearance very clean,the food is first class,good quality,tried the beef curry,comes with rice, lots of meat also tried the chicken chop suey and fried rice.The staff are pleasant,eveything about this place is faultless,spotlessly clean.Wouldnt think of going anywhere else.A family business for many years.Goodbye Many-Ho who we have used for some time,they are very good but no patch on this place.

We have used this takeaway for many years now.It used to be called the Kowloon House, when we lied in Taunton, twenty years ago.The service remains friendly and the food is just the best around. Whenever we are in Taunton, we always persuade our daughter to get food from the South Dragon House, because it is so good.

A great takeaway.....have ordered from here before and will definitely order from here again. Our food was delivered early by a very polite delivery driver. Food was very nice and the service very efficient.
