Located in Bishop's Lydiard, a very good takeaway food, open 6 days a week between 5pm and 10 pm..open also on bank holidays 😀 You can place your order over the phone and go pick it up so you don't have to wait over there,they don't do any deliveries. Good food, good service. Definitely recommended...enjoy it

Dreadful waste of money, food was terrible, the half duck was dry, all crisp and no duck, the dishes were bland and the BBQ ribs had a sauce more likened to gravy with a spoon of sugar. £80 down the drain, will not return.

Very disappointed with our food tonight, first time ordering and spent £80. What a waste of money! Half a duck which was all crisp and no duck. Pork dish which had no flavour, BBQ ribs which tasted like they were in gravy with a bit of sugar and the Singapore rice was very dry. Such a shame, ruined our evening and will not be returning.

In desperate need of training on how to engage with people - rude , arrogant and unfriendly. We ordered 3 items a salt & chilli King Prawn, a Chicken Satay and a King Prawn Satay. The first 2 were fine but the 3rd was expected to be similar to the chicken dish but was completely different and the person who ate it was unable as too hot despite only having a 1 chilli rating. I took the containers back to show them and was told that is how we do a a King Prawn satay - I asked how anyone would know it to be so different from chicken - how we do it in a gruff voice. Needless to say clearly not warranting my custom especially as not short of good Chinese takeaways.

We live locally and been going here for a while but recently the food has been poor. Has no taste or so salty you can't eat it, also very expensive for a Chinese they are charging top prices. Food today was awful, tastes like it's been re heated with no taste. Will not be coming back.

My girlfriend liked hers, but my chicken curry was bland, no flavour at all, shame because the last 1 I had was nice. Really disappointed

Really lovely and tasty Chinese. Have been customers for years. Its really sad however how they have increased the minimum order from £25 up to £30 and now to £35 to get prawn crackers thrown in!!

We have been coming here for a few years now. Started off lovely but lately hasn’t been so great. Incorrect orders received and all a bit bland. The hike in the price rise was rather a shock too.

We moved to the area from South Somerset a few months ago, we had a fab Chinese where we were before we were reluctant to try a new one as they can be hit and miss, much like the review for this place. Today we took the plunge as we were coming back from a day out and driving by we thought why not. We already knew it was cash only so came prepared, parking can be tricky but we got there not long after opening and one customer was just leaving as we arrived, perfect. It had 5 star food hygiene rating as well. Hubby went in ordered and was told it would be about 15 mins, whilst waiting lots or customer came in and went, which was a good sign to us, the food was ready on time, we collected and made our way home though slightly apprehensive about what we had actually got. No need to worry, order was correct, food was still hot and delicious, we both loved what we had, ate the whole lot! Prawn crackers were perfect too. Wouldn’t hesitate going again.

Been coming for over a year now, never had a bad meal. Friendly too and good prices.

I have been using this takeaway for about 10 years as the one where I live is so bad, it’s about 10 miles to this takeaway. The food we had today was dry tasteless and not at all acceptable. Most of it went in the bin, I found them to tell them how bad it was, they offered me 10% off my next order, there won’t be another order.

Eaten here several times now and always great food. My only tiny moan would be sometimes you get fries and I like a chunky chip with Chinese. Remember this is still only cash only payment.

I ordered food from here, the chicken balls had metal in and broke my tooth. Upon returning food in store they offered to pay my dental bills. I asked for them to confirm in writing that they will cover my dental bills and are now refusing, after making out they had already done so. They also refused to return my broken tooth fragment I presented to them to evidence part of the dental injury sustained. Over a month later and I am still stuck with a broken tooth, as I am unable to trust that when presented with a costly dental bill they will indeed pay. Unfortunately I have had no option to contact Trading Standards regarding this matter. Do not recommend ordering from this establishment.

Lovely food, working our way through the menu, so far so good! Don't forget cash, they don't take cards. If you forget the co-op down the road has a machine inside.

Really good takeaway not expensive can't fault it

We stayed a few miles away for the week and after grabbing a quick impulse takeaway on the first night, we returned a few nights later as the food was great. Great variety, reasonable pricing and quick service. Only downside was that it is cash only.

I have regularly ordered Chinese take out from the China Cottage ever since it opened, and have been a massive fan of their food. It's always been good quality, tasty and much better than many Chinese restaurants in Taunton. I'm so glad it's so local to where I live so it's easy to get. Paying by cash is a bit of a pain, but I happily accept this given the food is so good! I've never been disappointed.

I tried this takeaway as it was highly reccomended. It was easy to find. Customer service was OK, I ordered ahead and only had a short wait for my order. I enjoyed the Dry BBQ ribs, chips, egg fried rice and sweet and sour mixed meat balls, however the pork was bitter. The pork wasn't great in the Pork Pung Ko style either. Finally I found there to be far to much salt in the meal.

The chow mein here is very very delicious and has such a good taste to it. The sweet and chili chips have a spicy and sweet tase which makes it immaculate. The chips is also better than normal takeaway shops and they have a lot of different ones.

Have takeaway once a month and the food has always been good, yes there are times when they are busy and it would be more convenient to pay by card. But the food is always tasty, and staff always try hard

Reading some of the reviews of this takeaway are quite comical - you wonder what people expect of a Chinese takeaway because, in my experience, it's one of the best I've come across. On the downside, they only take cash - which is an absolute nuisance. And there's only one cash machine in the village: on a weekend evening you can be part of a procession who park and enter the Co-op, use their inside machine, get in your car and follow one another to the takeaway. Locals usually laugh conspiratorially as we take part in this ritual. I now get out cash every month just to keep in a drawer for a family take-away. That's the reason why I only gave it 4/5 Sometimes, the service is a bit chaotic too: I don't know how they juggle the rate of calls they get but they really try to be efficient. On the upside - the food never disappoints. The portions are generous, the food tasty and subtly spiced, you can tase really differences in the sauces, the quality of the beef always pleases my husband while I enjoy their prawn dishes. My adult children often join us and one is a vegetarian who varies her choice between several dishes. The price is very reasonable for an evening meal for 2 or 4 people. Everyone I know in our village goes there quite happily for a takeaway so they must be doing something right.

We absolutely love China Cottage in Bishop's Lydeard. We phone and order on a Friday night and drive from the next village. It is always ready within about twenty mins. Sometimes much faster! The food is always lovely. We aren't experimental so usually get the same thing. The dishes are consistent in flavour and taste. We always get free prawn crackers too which is a bonus of course!!!

Always dependable for a great takeaway. Fresh, tasty food. Always busy. Only downside is the only take cash! I always forget and have to go to cash point in coop! Got soaked in rain!!

Consistently busy and for good reason.

This take away is complete chaos and unaware of any covid restrictions. I went at my designated time to collect my meal, indoors were 8 people 80% with no masks and all were awaiting separate orders. When my order was shouted outside I was stared at my customers and staff when I wanted a clearing to pay and collect my meal. Other tale aways in town have a policy of paying and ordering over the phone, a set time to collect and collection is brought to a table by the door... I will not be returning to this take away during or after the pandemic...

Very polite staff, food was freshly cooked about a ten minute wait a five star hygiene rating and you can see into the kitchen which I like. We did a 14 mile trip but was worth it, tasty, good sized portion too 👍

I have lived in the area for just under 3 years and the Chinese food I get from China Cottage is as good as any I had when I travelled to Hong Kong and China when I was Long Haul Cabin Crew. Bad food? What nonsense...

The onetime I didn’t check trip advisor assuming somewhere can’t be terrible for a quick unplanned evening take away. 3 of us had chow Mein and it literally tasted of absolutely nothing. We were all very hungry so manage to eat it but it as borderline edible. One of us is a complete food addict, overweight and eats anything and couldn’t finish it! This is no exaggeration an Aldi packet chow Mein is much tastier. As a last resort we added salt and tomato ketch up to make it taste if something. Yes that’s desperation. What a shame this key location has failed so badly. We all agreed that this is the worst Chinese that we have ever had. Service was quite good. Ordered by phone and collected 10 mins later, pricing was average maybe a little high.

I am a regular customer and have spent a lot of money here and Chinese food is not cheap when you have 9 or 10 people to feed so it's £40 £50 each time well tonight they git the order completely wrong gave us chips instead of our chicken balls so we had to go back which we was told don't forget the cold bag of chips bring them back after this the entire Chinese meals was stone cold and I get told I can have free chicken balls nxt time if I wanted a microwave Chinese I would have bought that but I didn't and 5gere lack of care on there own mistake was not right so £50 fir nothing I'll not be going there again now they just lost a good customer

Appalling! I’ve always used China Cottage and have been a regular customer despite living outside of the village and closer to Williton. After tonight, I will not be returning. Upon ordering at 19:10 over the phone I was told a 15 minute wait. With it being a Saturday evening I left it a bit longer and went in at 19:40. I was told my collection wasn’t ready despite it being double the time frame allowance I had been told. I asked well how long would it be and was told “in a minute” by the uninterested and vague teenage boy dressed in black. Well, be more specific, I said! Because I had already waited 30 minutes and I have plans as I was grabbing food on route to a friend! Upon speaking to the chef I’m told another 5-10 minutes. I’m not overly amused about this but after expressing my displeasure I disappear to wait in my vehicle. I return at 20:00 where I am given my food all ready to go but I tell the uninterested teenage boy I will not be paying the full price of £35 as I’ve now waited 55 minutes instead of 15. Some Chinese fella who I assume is the owner comes to tell me that because I’m collecting, upon arrival my order there would of been an additional 10 minutes to wait. I said no, that’s not ok, it’s now 55 minutes, I was told 15 minutes. Not 15 minutes plus 10 minutes and especially not 50 minutes. This isn’t the first time this has happened where I’ve been told a much shorter time frame than they can actually meet to, but I had hoped it was a one off but after tonight’s escapade it clearly was not and had the attitude of the staff been more sympathetic and tolerable I might have actually waited and paid for my food instead of refusing to pay the £35 of food and leaving, knowing that they would have had to of disposed of it instead.

My family and I frequent this chinese around twice a month and the quality of food is always amazing a worth the money!

Only problem is the parking is not to good but there are some for if you are just stopping to pick up. As I have said before the food and service are great

We use the Chinese about 1-2 times every 6 weeks and still find it one of the best Chinese we’ve ever had. Always friendly polite, food done on time, warm and cooked great. 2 slight grumbles though, surely it’s time they got with the 21st century and got a card machine. Secondly their prices are slowly creeping up every 6 months.

Ahora un regular para nosotros, este gran punto de llevar la semana pasada cayó una cuando encontramos nuestra costillas estaban duras y no de miel fresca. El resto era genial, pero merece la pena preguntar la próxima vez si las costillas son frescos o recalentados, como lo sabía, y siempre hemos encontrado ellos tierna y suculenta antes.

En el camino paramos en casa una noche para encontrar un servicio excelente y amable, con una enorme variedad y recién preparado delicias! Cuando llegamos a casa para comer estábamos más impresionados. Todo estaba súper sabroso en vez de tener que cada plato de fondo que a veces monotonía encontrar. No aceptan tarjetas, pero eso no es un problema, ya que el pueblo cercano supermercado cooperativo tiene una máquina de efectivo. Sin embargo, no tome chequers sin duda a este lugar!

Esta pequeña joya nunca nos ha fallado. Esperé hasta nuestra sexta comida para asegurarse - y estoy seguro. Pato delicioso. Bien preparado Salt 'n 'gambas chili. Costillas suculentos. Excelente pan de gambas fideos y gratis. Pasé de £25 por dos personas cuando 15 libras habría hecho - ambos teníamos suficiente comida para el día siguiente. Así £25 sin alimentar a 3-4. Para esta calidad, con una gran relación calidad-precio. Estamos sin duda asiduas.

Este llevar abrió en el pueblo 12/18 hace varios meses. Estar fuera de la ciudad en un pueblo siempre es un dolor para siempre, demasiado lejos para la entrega y recolección que significa llegar a casa hace frío. Así que este sitio era perfecto.

Have had take out from here when visiting family in BL but tonight was disappointing. Duck in plum sauce (which I order every time) arrived as a tub of very dry duck and a small pot of sauce on the side, not even convinced it was plum sauce. Crabmeat soup had lumps of gelatine in it, so overall not a great meal..... Redeemed a little by great house special chow mein

Always a lovely family time here, great experience for my young kids, is abit pricey for the small food portions BUT food always tastes good. A popular place but never feel crammed in.

As this is by far the nearest Chineese take-away to us we have used it regularly, though very typical the food is no bad and reasonable. Cash only when I visited!
