Our go-to asian takeaway in Wellington. Food quality always excellent, great varied menu, staff are always really friendly and helpful, and order always ready on time.

Really nice service and delicious food.

The rice was overcooked and I found ants in my meal, never again will I visit that dump!

New experience for family and well worth it, food was delicious and enticing. Nicely presented, very flavoursome. Catered to dietary requirements perfectly. Overall lovely experience look forward to coming back.

I ordered food to be delivered at 6pm, I rang at 7.30 and was told it was on the way. By 8pm it still wasn’t here. I rang again and the man at the end of the phone would just say nothing when I spoke to him. Customer service was appalling. 8.15 it arrived 2 hours and 15 minutes after ordering, and has been in transit for 45 mins. The whole order was wrong, I was delivered someone else’s order after waiting so long. My family were starving. We kept the food as everyone needed to eat. I rang and complained, again the service was terrible, they wouldn’t refund, they wouldn’t offer a single thing, if I sent the food we didn’t order back they would, however after waiting over two hours and receiving food we didn’t want, and some we don’t like, there was absolutely no offer of anything to make right their fault. Apart from waiting another hour for food. The service was absolutely awful, the guy on the phone unhelpful everytime I called and the delivery man was shocking also. I won’t use this place ever again. It’s Gone really downhill. One of the dishes was dry with barely any sauce, wasn’t hot, another dish was really overly hot, how does that even make sense. Surely it should all be at the same temperature. I would advise anyone against using these guys for a food deliveries. They have no idea what they are doing!

Decided on a rare takeaway given the known costs. Phoned the order and it was ready on time. Food was good and plentiful to be fair, would certainly recommend and will go back , when we have a few spare pennies..

Amazing staff. Very kind and has a fun atmosphere. Foods amazing. Easily the best chips in wellington which really sets the standard for everything else on the menu. Really kind delivery on, Fridays and Saturdays, driver always giving you a smile. Front of house will also give you a warm welcome and a kind goodbye. Would always recommend coming in Friday and Saturday. That’s when the restaurant is running at its best. What more can I say. I’ll always recommended it!

Wowzers! Where do I start. I Know! the greasy hair (brown) person was quite rude for a Tuesday 😡furthermore the food was REALLLYYY expensive 7 quid for a bit off rice and chicken and peas. Oh CRIKEY I said. However the atomischer was lit styll🔥🤙🏾 additionally to the food it was not nice it was a bit greasy I was very disappointed

Food was terrible, all fried. I took it back for a refund and just got a load of shouting and some bloke behind the counter unable to refund me and very puzzled. Never again.

Behind a not particularly inspiring shop front you will get wonderful service and very good food. We don't go enough but had a brilliant shared starter, three mains and some lovely jasmine tea for just £42. Would eat here if only for the welcome and care taken but food is very good as well.

Telephone manner left a lot to be desired. Chow mein missing. (Said wasnt ordered but was charged!) Kong Po chicken fine. Shredded beef chewy and soft. Tried here for the first time from the usual. Won't be returning ! Chicken balls nice at least!!

I've been using the takeaway/delivery service for years. It is always delicious fresh quality food, all made with chicken stock rather than MSG. I'm writing this review because I cannot understand why a recent reviewer says the food is tasteless? Very weird. They must be so used to MSG that they don't know any better. The service is always friendly and speedy too.

Had a drink and 2 courses for £25 a head. Good value, excellent, food, enjoyed by everyone, very tasty and polite service. Great for a meal out with friends. A bit lacking in atmosphere for a romantic dinner for 2.

Firstly The food here is amazing, freshly cooked and amazing tasty. The cost is reasonable for a restaurant and portions were a good size. The only thing that lets it down is the atmosphere. We visited New Canton last year when down visiting family and put the lack of atmosphere on Covid regulations. However we visited again to find we were the only table occupied again and service was not the best. No music in restaurant seating area and a wall blocks view to counter so getting staff's attention is hard. They seem focused on the take away orders and we were left a long time without being offered a drink and when were ordered a second drink they were forgotten. I would recommend visiting but be aware you may have to get the attention by going up to the counter or get a take away from them.

Lovely food from this establishment I would give it 10 out of 10 and I know my food...Will be back very soon .

The food is bland, the customer service is awful, only interested in your money, change to a menu item from salt and chilli chicken wings to popcorn chicken pieces, uninspiring Chinese takeaway food, restaurant seems to have lost interest in customer satisfaction and service

I last reviewed this restaurant in 2016 and gave it 5/5.... and it was good. Today's takeaway was not good... fatty chicken... bone bits... hair in the food. Just not good. And I have to say the decor of the place itself is looking tired & scruffy - I wouldn't want to take my wife there for a special meal while it's like this. Really sorry, but I will be waiting for reviews that show a vast improvement before going back.

Worst Chinese we've had. First time used as new to area, never again. Staff very rude, delivery man walked off with our money, didn't speak English. Food missing from order. Numerous complaints easier just to say we will be avoiding this takeaway in future.

Very poor food... more staff than customers who were talking about all aspects of their lives very loudly. Old very used oil, by far the worst dish was duck in plum sauce ( I wouldn't feed it to a dog).

Don’t order tofu dishes here. The tofu isn’t marinated or crispy or tasty in any way. The other dishes were bland. The restaurant was empty during what should have been a peak time. I know why.

Nicely surprised, it was very quiet but the food turned out great, the mixed starter and crispy duck were spot on, followed by a veg dish with fried rice and yummy crispy beef. Would thoroughly recommend this place may not offer the best dinning experience but food is is top notch.

Used New Cantonese as told it was good. Sadly I won’t be using again. BBQ spare ribs were like leather, Chicken Curry tasteless and the Chow Mein the same. When your charging £7 for a main meal you’d expect so much better. 1 star as the prawn crackers were ok. Very poor

Food was a little disappointing this time

Had a chicken Chow Mein take away Saturday 2 April 2021 It was almost totally greasy noodles with two bean sprouts and had a few slivers of cold cooked chicken stirred in. Unbearable rubbish. If they continue like this they are heading for a fall.

Started off badly, they missed part of the order. (easily done, but dissapointing at first. They did offer a refund and discount next time). However, I can honestly say, they made up for it with the best Chinese food we've had in ages. The ingredients are premium (loads of fresh veg in veggie dishes) and the flavours are spot on. It's not one of those meals where everything blends in to make a bland greasy mess, everything is well cooked, seasoned and fresh. I felt bad for phoning up and complaining, once we'd eaten. They can keep the discount next time, as it was the first takeaway we've really enjoyed in a long time.

We had a few bad meals here a few years ago so was very worried about going back but our daughter wanted to go back, I ordered via phone for a takeaway was told it was cash only asked how much then luckily I took extra as 1 of the meals wasn't put on order so waited while this was done, Wasnt disappointed our meals were very nice and we enjoyed it will now return again soon.

Went to collect takeaway, only customer in there. Staff member behind counter playing with phone doesn't acknowledge me being there. He makes a call then disappears into kitchen, still no acknowledgement. Only when another customer enters does he return and finally bothers to speak to me (after serving her). Other customer apologetic, thinks she's jumped the queue but I explained it wasnt her fault, it was the disinterested staff. Won't be going back. P.s. if you want a dining experience with the least atmosphere you'll ever experience, give it a try..

Ate in. Expensive but the quality and quantity are superb, by far the best Chinese I have had in the area. People complain about dated decor, but I want good food, not cliched porcelain lion dogs!! Very refreshing to find, will certainly be back. Just need some decent ice cream to finish with hence the missing star :)

Great takeaway...put on two pounds the next day but we'll worth it

Read the reviews of other people and was a little apprehensive before I went. The guys who served us were very attentive and really did everything you would ask for when going for a meal. The people who left bad reviews either wanted Much more from the restaurant or just had a bad night.

The quality of the food is very good. Very tasty and it was ready at the time they said. The reason for 4 dots and not 5 is because it’s a bit pricey. However if I stayed in Wellington again I would use this takeaway again.

Good Chinese restaurant the takeaway service is excellent but expensive!

Went here on a Saturday night when Taunton was busy because of the Cricket World Cup. It is a simple operation with about 25 covers and a slightly separated area doing a steady trade in take aways. Offering is fairly extensive - broadly a takeaway menu with Malay Balti options in a Chinese menu We shared a Peking Duck (6 pancakes and plenty of meat) for £11 for a starter - very good. My wife had a crispy Noodle special for a main and I had a sweet and sour king prawn with coconut rice for our mains Together with two lemon teas our bill was £37. Food was well cooked and waitressing friendly A quiet restaurant doing the food well and we will return again

Really disappointed. Rare night out and service was ok ish, food was nothing special. Chicken balls weren’t cooked through, and noodles were burnt. Staff were not bothered that we were dissatisfied with food. Certainly not going back and wouldn’t recommend.

I visited with a group of friends and have to say after reading mixed reviews was somewhat apprehensive But.... 10/10 The young lady who served us was smartly dressed , polite and extremely well mannered. It was extremely busy on take away side but she didn’t seem phased she looked after us extremely well aswell as serving in takeaway Now on to the food .... wow all freshly cooked with fresh vegetables used. Very tasty and nicely presented. Although slightly higher priced than other Chinese takeaways in town this one does have an eating In area and I would say is definitely worth the extra money. I would definitely return

Most of the good reviews for this place are for takeaways, but our eat in experience was not great. The service is not very professional and the restaurant is a bit shabby and grubby. There is absolutely no atmosphere and the music too loud and inappropriate (rap music in a Chinese restaurant?!). The table by the door is cold and draughty because the door doesn’t close itself properly, I got up several times myself to close it. The food is okay but nothing to write home about. The best dish was the plain noodles. For some reason quite a few young people came in after us and were served simple dishes straight away and didn’t appear to pay. Perhaps they are students and the restaurant has some sort of contract? Cost £40 for two courses including a drink each left us feeling a bit short changed. Not one to recommend or for a special occasion.

No one in restaurant when we went in. Staff watching TV on laptop. Music so loud staff dancing in mirror. Waited too long for order. Started out on table no plate. Chop sticks to be asked for. Food ok but not out standing. Dim sum what dim sum 3 very basic items. Greasy not great. Won't be going back.

Used to use this place before it changed hands last year since which we have not returned until yesterday. Hope rather than expectation was rewarded by a rather splendid takeaway. Service at the till (we turned up physically rather than phoning first) was good, the order arrived as promised, we had ordered a lot so received free Prawn Crackers (which I am still munching as I type) and it was piping hot. Even after our 15 minute drive home, it was all still perfect. So, without leaving a lengthy analysis of the food, the key points are: Well cooked, good sized portions, fresh vegetables, nice sauces, not overly spiced or salty, a subtlety missing elsewhere, and REAL meat - proper chicken (even in the curry), proper beef and pork, and lot's of it. Shredded pork in the pork balls? Really? Divine....Pukka.We will be back.

Visited Saturday night around 8.30pm without a reservation and luckily got one of the remaining tables in this small but busy restaurant. Menu offers good variety and we went for prawn toasts and chicken satay skewers to start. The prawn toasts were deep fried but very greasy. I could not finish them. The chicken tasted re-formed. Main course was slightly better although nothing special. Prices average. Don’t understand other reviews which talk about the £7.50 mushroom rice. If you want to spend less on rice then both the egg fried or plain boiled rice are less than £3 and would do two people as the portion size is huge!

Very impressed by the food. The interior could do with tidying up and decorating and perhaps the staff could wear something more professional but the service was very good and the food was excellent. Would go again for sure.

Friendly staff. Well presented food and really tasty. A bit expensive, 2 adults, 1 ten year old and a five year old came to £100 would normally spend that on 4 adults but altogether an enjoyable evening

Quick service, but it was empty early evening. One meal arrived six minutes before the others. Waiter had no knowledge of wine food arrived hot and was fresh and good.

Not eaten in but regular take away venue for us. Food quality has always been consistent to a good standard. Best Chinese in wellington.

We have always had an excellent takeaway and there are never any errors. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is one of the best in the area.

The food here,like most restaurants these days, is fine. However what makes a takeaway or restaurant stand out is the quality of service. Unfortunately this is where the new canton fails. Incompetents in taking orders complicated by staff holding conversations in front of customers that could wait till after the transaction is complete.

Had a pre Christmas takeaway. First takeaway from New Canton and we’ve lived in Wellington 8 years!!!! It was amazing. Really good food it was very nice. Good size portions. Can’t wait to return again.

Walked in off street not reservation and got a table for 2 Una nice position. Service was good. Food was excellent. 🍺 Beer a bit pricey. Atmosphere a bit lacking.

We have been coming here for years for both family and friends treats. Yes, it used to be an undiscovered gem but no more. Having changed hands recently it was disappointing the first time we went back after that; this last time a few days ago it was a disaster! The food was poor, the service diabolical, teenage girls without a clue, not their fault, I guess they haven't been taught how to serve. Orders in a muddle, starters served without anything to eat them out of, main course followed at glacially slow speed(nearly an hour later), wrong (the manager (?) tried to tell us that the wrong dish they sent out to us was the one we had ordered when it patently obviously wasn't) , cold (perhaps it had been sitting, while we waited) and pretty disgusting (not even close to the way the same dishes were before). We left and we won't be going back. So sad.

The food came quickly and was delicious, especially the lemon chicken and mixed vegetable chow mein. The staff and owners were very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend!!

I have been lucky enough to have had a takeaway from the new canton for the past couple of months and the food has been excellent the staff are friendly and good value for money I would highly recommend this restaurant !

Siempre hemos sido fans de este restaurante enorme hasta el punto que haría un viaje de ida y vuelta de 18 millas para usarla de comida para llevar. Estaba un poco nervioso de nuestro 1 visita a la calle ya se vendió, pero pensamos que lo ve. Por desgracia tan decepcionante. La comida estaba bien (mientras que solía ser excelente), pero el servicio era horrible. Orden de arranque y bebidas tardaban mucho, estaba equivocado cuando finalmente llegamos a la mesa y las largas pausas entre los platos principales que llegan, así que algunos de nosotros nos dejaron esperando mientras que otros con la suya. Tuve que seguir persiguiendo al personal, un par de quien realmente no parece justo a la altura del trabajo. Para ser justos, el propietario hizo de nosotros un par de bebidas gratis como disculpa, pero preferiría tienen la calidad de la comida y el servicio que utilizamos para llegar aquí. Probablemente no volveremos - tienen alguna manera de ir a cumplir con las normas de los anteriores dueños.

My family had a lot takeaways here before but we never tried to eat in. Takeaways are awesome and it's one of the best in Wellington. The service is good, table nicely layout. We ordered a set menu for 3, the roast duck is outstanding, we all loved it. Beef with black bean sauce , a dish that we haven't tried before. I think the sauce match nicely and definitely worth a taste. I would like to come back and try other dishes. I will recommend this Chinese restaurant for fine dinning.

Good good, but a little expensive. The lady who runs it is a witch who treats her staff very poorly.

Ordered a take away 2 hrs in advance, when I arrived it was not ready I waited another half hour for it to be ready, when I complained the owner almost ignored me, made no apologies just said they were busy very abrupt, to add insult to injury when I got home 10 mins drive, one of the dishes was missing and the food was cold I rang and asked them to deliver the missing dish the answer was we don't deliver come and get it or have a refund on your next visit and disputed it wasn't in the bag, needless to say I won't be getting my refund of £4.20 as I will never go into there again

we used to frequent New Canton when previous owners had it and the food was always fresh and excellent, since new owners have it, food is unbelievably fast and obviously microwaved to death, no taste never going back there.

We've had delicious meals and takeways over the years here, but our most recent take away was horrible. I thought that plumped-up gelatinous chicken was a thing of the past, but here it was in our favourite local Chinese, and barely edible.Do we assume it's a glitch and try again or is that it? Other reviews awaited with interest.

I took my wife, daughter and a couple of her friends for a celebratory dinner, we were seated promptly and offered menus, the starters were very good and full of flavour, whilst the girls had chowmein , my wife and I had seafood dishes, well cooked but not outstanding. I cannot fault the service or surroundings but the pricing is disproportionate to a disappointing menu where I would have expected more variety and more authentic dishes for the money charged, total bill inclusive of drinks was in excess of £100. My advice for the owners would be to radicaly overhaul the menu and reflect the true cuisine of China, this would then create something unique in the South West.

A family visit to this restaurant based on family living locally. We decided to have a take away as the place has zero atmosphere, is freezing cold inside and whats the point eating in misery. So we got takeaway. This was a Saturday night. Sunday I flew back home and when i got home my sister told me that her daughter was vomiting and (the other end). This food poisoning hit me on Sunday night and i had to take monday off. I asked my sister to call them and they replied do you have proof from a Dr....No but you can come and check the toilet out if you so wish!!! Special fried rice!!! Stay away from here and stay away from restaurants that accept no liability.

My wife, daughter's and 12 other were staying just outside of Wellington and found the New Canton on line.A large order was phoned through for a Friday evening.They drove into collect it and the staff were very helpful and even carried it to the car.The food was delicious. It's a shame we don't live local as it would be a first choice.

This is the second time I've eaten there and both have times the food has Been really fantastic - fresh veggies good quality meat/fish ... it's a great asset for the town !!

We ordered a takeaway from the New Canton in Wellington. We are fairly new to the area and had heard good things about this Chinese restaurant and takeaway. We ordered our takeaway over the phone and given a time to collect it. We arrived 45mins later, at 7:45pm to collect the takeaway as instructed. I paid for the food, a pricey £57.00! I then waited for 20mins while other customers came and went with their orders. I asked the two girls behind the bar if they could check to see if my order was ready. They informed me there were two items still cooking! I then waited for another 5-10mins without any sign of my order. I asked again and showed the girls my receipt which clearly showed I paid at 7:54pm and it was now 8:25pm. Well past the 7:45pm time given for collection and almost 30mins after I paid. Nobody seemed bothered that I had waited so long or that it was quite an expensive order. I was offered no compensation for my time and little in the way of an apology. Put simply - nobody cared! Once we had the food home it was average at best and tasteless at worst. This establishment is not worth your money or time. This has lost this restaurant a new customer and gained them a reputation of poor service. Try the Wok Inn around the corner; cheaper, tastier and better timekeepers!

Amazing selection of food and drink

visited for a birthday meal on the 5th November.. food as always was very good although for the first time ever service was indifferent... had all starters except one which had to be asked for and same problem with main the coconut rice was absent so had to ask and when arrived it was almost cold...sent back and returned within minutes although by then the mains were well to be eaten otherwise they would have been cold..

Upon arrival at the restaurant, we was greeted and was made very welcome. There are some lovely authentic chinese dishes and all made even better without the use of MSG in the cooking. Interesting chinese tea too. Lovely meal and thank you.
