Recommended to visit the globe so we did. Lovely old pub , looked ideal. We do not take cash, card only, we were informed, so we beat a hasty retreat, four hungry and thirsty customers left for pastures new. In these recession hit days I would have thought the brewers would be pleased to accept any currency.

The Globe is one of Leicester's most beloved pubs, with a rich history that dates back to the 18th century. It's located at 43 Silver Street in the city center, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. Here’s a deeper dive into its key features: History The Globe has been serving patrons since at least the late 1700s, making it one of the oldest pubs in Leicester. Its long history is reflected in the traditional décor, which includes wooden beams, exposed brick, and a classic pub atmosphere. Over the centuries, it has maintained its reputation as a central meeting place in Leicester, evolving with the times while preserving its historical charm. Ambience The pub has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with cozy seating areas and a welcoming feel that makes it a great place to unwind. The interior blends historical elements with contemporary comfort, including traditional wooden furnishings, old photographs, and even a fireplace that adds to the charm during colder months. Menu The Globe offers a wide range of food and drink options, catering to different tastes. Their menu typically includes: - Traditional Pub Fare: Classic British dishes like fish and chips, bangers and mash, pies, and Sunday roasts. - Modern Dishes: Alongside the traditional offerings, you can find more contemporary options, such as burgers, salads, and vegetarian/vegan dishes. - Drinks: The pub is known for its selection of real ales, ciders, and an array of spirits. They often feature local and guest ales, making it a great place for beer enthusiasts. Events and Activities The Globe often hosts a variety of events, including: - Live Music: Regular live performances from local bands and musicians. - Quiz Nights: Popular weekly or monthly quiz nights that draw a crowd. - Specials: They frequently run specials, particularly around holidays and major sporting events, where the pub becomes a lively spot to watch games. Popularity The Globe is particularly popular among students, given its proximity to Leicester’s universities, but it also attracts a diverse crowd, including professionals, tourists, and regulars who have been coming for years.

Having eaten once before we knew they could cater for my dietary requirements (gluten intolerant Vegan). Greeted by very friendly bar staff grabbed drinks (very good pinot Grigio) and sat in the very pleasant snug. Husband had the McCopterface burger (£1 donated to air ambulance)-excellent he said and I just had chips (really really good chips) as I’m not a big eater. We were served mainly by Jed who was lovely and very helpful with menu choices, I wasn’t going to have dessert but he mentioned the Vegan Ice Cream (which was also gluten free and I suspect homemade), my husband had the sticky toffee pudding, both magnificent. It’s been a long time since I’ve had the confidence to eat out with my limited diet, I haven’t enjoyed a meal this much for a long time, Chips and Ice Cream seems a simple meal to most people, but to someone who struggles with food intolerances it’s a huge thing. So thank you to Jed and the globe.

Visiting here for the first time after being away from Leicester for many years on the 23 may 24, only to find that the pub was empty and they no longer except cash, so as I only had cash on me we left..... The staff coundnt have cared less, cash is still legal tender in the uk and any business that won't except it is wrong. The only way is to boycott these businesses and go elsewhere, which we did. There was quite a large group of us and we went to O'Neals just up the road and there Happy to take cash. We did email the globe and there excuse was we done this when covid came in. Pretty lame excuse really and they obviously don't want people who pay cash.

Easily ignored, perhaps because of its location closer to the more retail end of Leicester, The Globe is easily missed and less frequented than a lot of pubs it's size. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Bonus that there's a free upstairs function room with bar that can be hired out. We went to support our friend Elise for the anniversary of her late husband. Although there were a lot of people upstairs, the atmosphere was great and relaxing to be around a variety of friends and family sharing the comforts of the past and present memories that we have all had. The prices of the drinks were fairly priced and I wouldn't hesitate recommending any of my friends and family to come to hire the free upstairs venue such as a birthday party or similar event.

The best pub in Leicester in my opinion and it's also mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide. The food was fine and I was happy about the prices. This pub is close to the Richard III Centre and the cathedral. The pub is now a cashless business and offer vegan pot pies. On my last visit, the young bar staff were turning people away who wanted to eat at 8pm when the kitchen closes. Surely when the pub is nearly empty, a little bit of leeway come into play for the food, plus drinks, plus future custom? It's a business after all? I have downgraded the pub as a result.

The family visited The Globe yesterday for the first time since it re-opened earlier this week. I have been drinking in there for over forty years and it was necessarily a little different but rest assured it is still the best pub in Leicester. We were shown to our table by the wonderful Layla herself, who also took our first drinks order. Full table service at The Globe is the new normal and payment has to be by card. My first pint of Old Original in six months was bound taste lovely so I had to have a couple more to check and none of them disappointed. We ordered our food and second round of drinks using the new web app, which was easy to use. We had been given some printed menus on entry that have a QR code to take you to the web app, so they've really tried to make the new normal as simple as possible. We all enjoyed our food and ordered some more drinks at the table. The staff were as friendly and helpful as ever and because a couple at the next table left before us we could see how thoroughly the table was sanitised for the next occupants.I've visited a few pubs since Leicester came out of lockdown and they have all made some changes but The Globe is in a different league when it comes to ensuring the safety of their customers and staff. If you would like to go out for a drink and a bite in town but are humming and harring because you are not sure you are ready to brave a pub in the current situation, I can recommend The Globe. The pub opened later than a lot of others to ensure they were ready and I cannot fault their preparation. The pub have done their bit but is obviously operating at reduced capacity to ensure real social distancing so I think the least we punters can do is try and make sure they don't have any empty tables. They are doing their own "eat out" offer Monday to Wednesday in September so you can save money too.
