A really delicious meal served by friendly attentive staff. We cannot recommend the Glen more highly! Plenty of veggie fish and meat options and an absolutely amazing homemade Sicilian cheesecake! Thank you for a great evening to celebrate our anniversary.

We went for a drive around the Mull of Kintyre on the first Sunday in April. We had hoped to find somewhere to have lunch in Campbelltown but no luck. We were giving up hope at 2.15 when we came across this lovely bar and restaurant in Carradale. They have a great menu and serve lunch until 3pm. I especially liked the fact that they offer half portions which is brilliant if you don’t have a huge appetite. We had dogs with us but we were able to sit on the lovely terrace to eat. The service was excellent and the food delicious. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food, cosy atmosphere and lovely environment. We booked here for early Hogmanay dinner. We had to pre order which wasn’t a problem. Scallops delightful, scampi and king prawns delicious and a generous children’s portion. We came back for drinks another day and then drinks and lunch another. Bill & May were lovely. Dogs not allowed, but understand not everyone wants them in the restaurant! Highly recommend

Just had the seafood platter for two and were pleasantly surprised! It’s a long time since we’ve had a good pub meal. Lots to enjoy, smoked salmon, hot smoked salmon, pickled herrings, prawns, smoked mussels, delicious langoustines, breaded scallops freshly battered fish, monkfish and a couple of other things I’ve forgotten, served with a fresh salad and three accompanying sauces we ordered chunky chips as a side but not really necessary. The only fault I could find was that I had to ask for lemon it wasn’t on the platter. Presentation and service all very good. If I were to have this again I might ask for the cold elements to be served first to have for a starter followed by the hot fish for the main. Wine menu not extensive, however our choice was a NZ white was extremely good. The place was very busy for a Tuesday however the service was not compromised, staff pleasant and competent. Not much to fault, lots to compliment which certainly makes a nice change!

We visited the Glen Bar a few times when we were staying in Carradale for drinks and on our last evening, for dinner with family. It is run by a lovely couple called Brian and May who work really hard to ensure visitors are looked after well. Food is homely and cooked by Brian. It is reasonably priced and portion size is generous. Because of COVID restrictions it’s essential to book the day before and pre order food. Outside seating area is lovely and on a nice day it’s a great place to sit and watch the world go by with a cold drink or coffee. Next time we are in Carradale we will definitely visit again.

I am very sorry to be writing a poor review . Our family has been holidaying in Carradale for over 40 years and this year we had friends with us , extending our table booking on our final night to 11, sadly the food was nothing but disappointing . I can honestly write that all of us felt let down by the food which had been pre-ordered to help the chef . £13.95 for the special of breaded sole and chips , which served with oven chips seems a bit expensive .The staff were clearly under pressure which was reflected in the service , sadly my Dad , our friends and ourselves have all said we won't be back .

I was going to write a review last year when we visited but life got in the way. Back again 12 months later and the experience upon revisiting reminded me I must take the time. There is a sign above the bar which states “we don’t serve fast food, we serve great food as fast as we can”. Let that serve as a warning to you. Service is SLOW! That’s ok, if you are prepared, warned in advance and arrive a good 60-90 minutes before you expect to be hungry. We arrived at 830 this week, 30 minutes before the advertised end of service at 9pm. Are you still doing food? “No, no. He’s still got a table of 5 to do and two tables of 2. Hold on I’ll ask him.” I had already clocked the disgruntled table of 4 behind me checking their watches so wasn’t hopeful. “No sorry, he can’t”. No worries I said and ordered a drink and was then told “he’ll do you fish and chips but that’s it”. We didn’t really fancy fish and chips so declined. The food we did see delivered looked very nice but the faces of the clientele reminded me of our faces last year when we had booked a table for 7 a week in advance but still had to wait an excruciating amount of time with 3 children for it to arrive. Some suggestions:-

Despite this, we received a warm welcome, and were told amongst much apologizing that we'd have to wait half an hour for a table. We did (it didn't take quite that long) and it was well worth it - great home-cooked food, friendly service, and worth the walk to get there. It's difficult to get the full package in Carradale, the Glen has pretty good home cooked food, it isn't too overpriced as some. Unfortunately for me which I find important is the welcome and service, the lady is quite stern we had to try and engage with her to get even a slight smile, if she is front of house it should be the other way about. There is a wee girl who serves the meals, I'm sure she is very nice but again if she is having full contact with us customers she too needs to at least be polite and smile. I know she may be young but there isn't a reduced priced menu depending on who serves you, we still paid £100 but felt deflated with the service.

We booked as a party of 17 so the restaurant asked if we could preorder as there were so many of us . We did this and to be honest the service was brilliant . Our starters came out immediately , there was no hassle with the main courses and same with desserts . For such a large party of people they were superb. We even had a wee interloper and they coped with that too despite the fact the place was really busy.Warm friendly helpful staff.Food was excellent and the prices were really reasonable . The langoustines were to die for and the scallops just brilliant.Pretty faultless place serving good food with friendly people . Can't beat it .I'd come back anyway .

We went here in a large family group and had a lovely evening. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Like many others we can also especially recommend the langoustines which were fresh and perfectly cooked. We were very happy to have this restaurant in the area and wished we had eaten there the second evening too.

Stopped here for a drink at the end of a warm afternoon. 1 pint of draft bitter and one pint of, wait for it, lime and soda was........SIX POUNDS AND TWENTY PENCE!!!I don't pay that much when I'm in London!!Would never go back to a place that charges such extortionate sums for a bit of cordial & 'soda' - which was flat, by the way. Never bothered thinking about eating here after that!

Had soup and sandwiches here and the sandwiches were lovely and fresh and very enjoyable and a good cup of tea served in a proper pottery tea pot.

Despite not having booked, we were fitted in by the friendly staff and it was worth the wait. Food was great, really tasty and we weren't made to feel rushed despite it being an obviously busy evening for them. All staff (even the new lad) were chatty and welcoming. With summer coming, would STRONGLY advise booking ahead as other local hotel not doing so well so this place will only become busier.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
