Wow, I cannot believe the selection of baked goods available at the Glasshouse Bakery. I have just bought the most amazing pear and almond tart. 10/10 on presentation and taste. As for value of money, the portion was so generous that it could have been easily shared with another person (but there was no way it was going to be!) It is lovely to see the students serving people and talking about the goods. Well done Glasshouse Bakery, you are a brilliant addition to the area.

What an amazing find this college restaurant is! Happy to say that we have been lucky enough to get a booking a few times now and have always been massively impressed with both the quality of the food and the great service (shout to Will!). The menu changes all the time and is always interesting and varied and also has vegetarian options. There is now a shop open a few days a week where you can buy some of the produce (recommended the lovely flavoured breads). We managed to book the 7 course tasting event for the end of the month and we can't wait! Keep up the great work!!

I took my family to the glasshouse as I had been previously with a friend & enjoyed the experience. We went to a 7 course taster session. The students didn’t disappoint, the food was lovely & the presentation was superb. The students waiting on were very attentive at clearing the tables of any dirty plates & glasses and service of food was spot on. We was kept well hydrated too 😉 There was a young man singing background music throughout the night too who was excellent. All in all an extremely lovely night was had by all. 🥰 thank you to all the students for making our family get together so special. Would definitely go again. ❤️

First time at The Glasshouse and we were not really sure what to expect! Our initial impression was what a very professional and refined setting the restaurant was! The team were extremely polite and helpful, the surroundings were elegant and inviting and the food was absolutely excellent! A choice of starters, mains and dessert all of which were delicious and beautifully presented! Exceptional value for money and I cannot wait until next term bookings open! Need to be quick though as it was difficult to get a table for dinner! I can see why - great experience from start to end!

We have visited several times this academic year with friends. You have to remember it's a training Restaurant/Kitchen designed to introduce the Students into the world of Hospitality and everything is not always going to be perfect. However, the food on this visit was fantastic enough for me to leave a review. Sauteed Chicken liver starter was excellent. Plates were hot as they should be, always a plus. My main was Louisianna Fish stew with a Timbale of Rice plus accompaniments. The fish and prawns were perfectly baked and the whole dish was a delight to eat. I finished with a Lemon Meringue Posset....beautiful. Our Waiter was friendly and efficient. There's not many, if any places in the area where you can have a meal of quality in a such nice surroundings. Excellent value for money.

Another great evening at The Glasshouse this time for Christmas Dinner. The reception area looked stunning and the restaurant was cosy and festive. Love the fact that the students cook and serve our meals, they are friendly, happy to help and very attentive. Our meal was delicious, tasty starters the tempura battered fish was the dish of the night and the game rillette flavoursome. We all had the traditional Christmas meal. Well cooked turkey and gravy, fluffy roast potatoes and all the trimmings, delicious. Desserts followed with lots of choice but for me it had to be Christmas pudding, a lighter version with all the fruit and flavours served with a creamy hot custard. A cocktail rounded of the evening which was as good as I have had anywhere. Loved the whole night.

The staff was lovely: Tina and Curtis are great hosts and the students are very professional and were knowledgeable about the menu, and answered any questions we had. The food was amazing! My husband and I along with two friends attended a gala evening last night at the Glass House. It was all dressed up with arches of balloons and a student playing a musical instrument. We were greeted with a kir royals and shown to our table. Then followed a 7 course gourmet meal. The food was fantastic, the students serving and in the kitchen were exceptional. There was also a keyboard player with students from Pendleton College singing which was amazing. We have been many times before either for lunch or evening meal but last night surpassed them all. My parents had been for lunch here a few months ago, and enjoyed it so much that they arranged for myself and my wife to join them for dinner one evening when available. So, they booked (which you have to do well in advance), and we looked forward to it. We went last night, and I have to say that we all thoroughly enjoyed it! If you've read the reviews and info, you will know that this restaurant is run by the city Catering College, the meals are cooked by aspiring chefs-to-be, and the waiting staff are hospitality course students. This gives them all "front line" experience, and is a great way to learn in a controlled environment. Waiting staff attentive, nothing too much trouble, and they dealt with the formalities easily. Orders taken, drinks delivered, ready to eat. Unexpected canopies arrived: One prawn toast, and one goats cheese. Delicious! I chose the Bouillabaisse to start - lovely, seafood broth, plenty of mussels, really tasty. Excellent! Main course swiftly followed: I went for shallow fried trout fillet, on a bed of mashed potato, accompanied by roasted veg and peppers. Again, excellent! Dessert was easy for me from the choices available - hot chocolate sponge with ice cream. Delicious! To finish off, petit fours - 3 varieties, the best of which was a salted caramel choc. lovely. Amongst the other dishes on offer that night were beef samosa, turkey roulade, pork fillet, and lemon/lime tart. I tried each of these as my co-diners had them, all were excellent. So, value for money...unbelievable! At £19.95 per person, you would be hard pressed to find food this good for anywhere near that price! A main course alone would be that as a minimum! Will we go again? 100% yes! Highly recommended.....but do me a favour, don't tell anyone because they only open for evening meals a few times each month and it's already really difficult to get a reservation, so keep it quiet or else we won't be able to book a table again!

We were served a warm bread roll which was one of the best ever I could have had another. For starters we picked a cheese tart, thai fishcakes and soup. We could not fault any of this - all excellent. For mains we chose pork, meat pie and fish. I could have paid and taken food home it was that good. Then dessert we chose sticky date pudding and profiteroles. We had water to drink with the meal. We are from Bolton and none of us like the taste of the tap water in Walkden. That was a downside perhaps the college could look at adding lemon, lime, cucumber to make it taste nicer. I'm not saying Bolton is the best but nicer than Walkden,

Young people do not get good press reviews at times, but if you book a meal here, you will find young people who are well-trained and dedicated to what they are learning. My wife and I, together with lots of friends, have visited here many times, but last night, (Thursday 4th June), it excelled itself. It was a "Taste of Europe" evening. Many of the young waiters dressed for the occasion: one young man in Lederhosen and our waitress was a young French girl.We commenced our menu with a Welcome Bread from Russia, then sampled dishes from England, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Switzerland, France and Germany. Even managed my cup of tea with Shortbread from Scotland. We could not fault one meal: it was well-presented, well-cooked and tasted unbelievably delicious. Apart from the Shortbread and Antipasto, we had never eaten any of the other dishes and they were a culinary experience. The young "chefs" had truly excelled themselves and the young people waiting upon our tables were so pleasant and cheerful, despite the pressure they must have been under. All I can say is that we cannot wait for the next themed evening and in the meantime, we will continue to visit for lunches and evening meals.Congratulations to all the staff for a superb evening. They would put many other restaurants to shame with their high standards. It is fine dining but not expensive. For our 10 course meal, glass of wine for four people, we only paid £77! We gave a good tip as all gratuities go to a day/night out for the young people. It was well deserved.

I called in as will be part of a dinner in January when leading companies will be invited to a meal, listen to a story of Salford and asking for their help in increasing apprenticeships. Any looking in Hospitality and catering will go a long way to see better products than provided at The Glass House!

We had a great evening in the Glasshouse last week. Everything was brilliant. For the money you pay, it was a superb value. You pay (evening meal) only £10 for a 3-course meal plus amuse bouche, bread, and crepes (if you wish; by ordering crepes you give them a chance to practice). Drinks and tips are not included. We had goat cheese with sweet chilli sauce for amuse bouche. Starters were butternut squash soup and Thai fishcake with soba noodles. Mains were pollock and guineafowl. For the desserts my husband had panna cotta, I had hazelnut and apricot parfait. The strongest point I found in this restaurant was their hospitality. Another strong point was the desserts, especially the parfait. I can say it was to die for, one of the best desserts I have ever had. Divine!!Oh, we were invited by the Teacher to see the kitchen. I was so happy!Final verdict: they did really well. We enjoyed the evening so much and we are going to return -we have made a reservation for Christmas menu. More information: parking is available in front of the restaurant. Traffic is busy in the evening (our reservation was 18:45) so if you are not a local, give yourself plenty of time to get there.

I have had the pleasure to eat here twice in the past few weeks, one for a themed evening and the other for lunch.Lunch last week was superb, great service from arrival, with students looking after you but overseen by staff at all times. The staff member on duty (Mike) was very attentive and gave feedback to students throughout.I had the soup for starter followed by the veggie dish of the day - I was too full for a sweet. The others that I dined with also enjoyed the food and service. The cost if just £5 per person for a 3 course meal at the moment - simply amazing value. There were about 15 people in for lunch, so enough for a good atmosphere.I like the way the students ask for feedback on way on an ipad - same used to take food and drink orders - very professional. We are going again for Christmas lunch and are looking forward to it.

I went with a party of three, myself, my mum and my grandma so we were a variety of ages. We went for the six nations special event and it was lovely. The staff were slightly nervous but didn't give up with the service (silver service at that). The bar has a good variety of drinks and the food was delicious. We had to wait a little while longer than we would have expected from starter to main and we were sat by the window which was a bit drafty. Over all for the price which was less than £20 each including drinks we were very happy and will return in the future x

This afternoon 14/06/13 my friend and i visited 'The Glass House' in Walkden. From entering the building to leaving, the service was excellent, It was hard to choose a starter, main course and sweet from the menu ,we were spoilt for choice. The soup was delicious, the pork ( main course ) was very tender and the sweet a lemon cheese cake had the hummmmmmmm factor( it melted in my mouth). Would i recommend it ,yes, would i go again, yes,we've already booked for a second visit. The price was very reasonable,i've been to restaurants that provide this kind of service and menu where you have to pay three/four times as much. It's excellent that there is a place like this where young people can learn their craft ,keep up the good work !!!!

I have been to the Glasshouse 4 times now and each time i have thoroughly enjoyed myself. The restaurant interior improves everytime as it becomes more established, though sometimes there is still a slight chill depending on where you are seated. Id recommend you take a cardigan or cover up if you visit in the evening during the winter months. It is a big room, so this is understandable. The menu is always varied and is composed of lovely choices. The lunchtime menu I have always found to be top notch and the taste of the food always spot on. I have also visited on a theme night for an evening meal and although the menu was set, there was still excitement when the food arrived. The only thing I would comment on is that theme nights are a little on the pricey side when compared to the quality and quanity of the much cheaper lunchtime menu. I have yet to visit on a standard non-themed evening, but i certainly will when i get chance. The staff and students are always delightful and it is fantastic to watch their confidence grow with each visit. I would throughly recommend a visit to the Glasshouse, but do that bear in mind it is a training restaurant and you have to accept that the students are learning and require patience from time to time. Having said that, i think the students are fantastic and have never had a bad experience.

The Glass House is the training restaurant of Salford City College in Walkden. Training restaurants can get a bad press but the Glass House is excellent in every respect. The food was very good and the service excellent. I would have no hesitation in recomending this restaurant.

Woodies cafe is spot on for a proper hearty fry up! I live in Ashton under-lyne and still travel an hour just for a woodies cafe. The staff are friendly and always happy to help Would highly recommend woodies to all my friends

I did a phone order, the person I spoke to was lovely! My order was done to my liking (replaced fried eggs with scrambled, asked for mushrooms to be cooked in butter etc) the food came really quickly and was piping hot!! My son has pinched both of my sausages so I’d say that he likes it too!! P.s I love the fact that the beans and tomatoes come in little pots to save on spillage out of the containers, (I prefer them presented like this anyway) 🫶

Imagine a world where Slug and Lettuce tripled their prices. This is it. Steak was tougher than the Erik ten Hag era.
