Salt and pepper chips! Really nice. I had the Korean burger, wife had the salt and pepper chicken. Both meals were really nice. Then a few drinks by the canal. Worth the walk out. Didn't see the rooms so I cannot comment on that.

It was a very pleasant place to stop while cycling through the canal. I highly recommend it and we will definitely be back!

This place overlooks the canal. The service was prompt and efficient. My Mexican burger was delicious. My uncle enjoyed his steak with peppercorn sauce. My nephews didn't complain either! It's a bit more expensive than other places, but you get what you pay for.

Stopped here a few times for dinner. Lots of food options and it's always very good. Highly recommend the steak flatbread with stilton sauce. Good variety of drinks too.

It's quite a nice restaurant next to the canal. The salt and pepper wings were excellent, perfectly crunchy crust, just right cooking and seasoning. The seafood risotto was great too, and a good portion. I guess it is a bit too popular for me, as even on a weekday night I had trouble finding a parking spot (there is free but limited parking), and as our table had separate checks I had to get my soda at the bar, which would be fine except the queue was long at times and I had to go back because their coke zero bottles are at a ridiculous 200ml!

Not been here for years, but what a pleasant change. A good of seating areas, inside, outside and the open sun room. Only came for lunch with Dad, but definitely go again.

Food was nice, location is great. Service was okay! I wasn't staying in the hotel but heard good things.

Food was lovely and the outside area was large and spacious. A various selection of drinks, wish the food menu was alittle bigger but no reason to leave bad feedback. Dog friendly inside and out. Staff were attentive, polite and well presented. Could do with some brighter lighting in the bathrooms but overall clean and nice decor.

Beautiful hotel room, stayed pre - and post wedding. Staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast brilliant the next morning, Full English and salmon and avocado egg benedict were spot on. Would highly recommend.

I do like this place, I've eaten there on a number of occasions, however I've alway eaten outside. My latest visit due to weather I dined inside. The restaurant is lovely and clean and the staff are amazing, the food is good although it's a bit pricey, but the setting for the pub by the canal is worth paying that bit extra for. The only thing I would say, having dined in, the restaurant had air fragrances, it was that pungent that you could taste it after being sat for a while, and it was like this throughout. When I got home my clothes still remained smelling of it, and still had a perfume like taste. I'm going to put it down to an anomaly on this visit though and it certainly wouldn't stop me from visiting again

Came in yesterday for tea. Gorgeous venue. The food was amazing and the staff were welcoming, friendly and polite. Will definitely cone again and also recommend.

Such a lovely hidden gem, came across this place on my walk. Great outdoor space next to the canal. Sunday live music, suns out, kid friendly and puppy friendly too. You at order at the bar or order at the table through the QR code. Drinks and food came out in good time. Staff were all friendly and professional. I will definitely be bring family and friends here.

Lovely location. Polite and friendly staff. Good food . But unfortunately on this occasion was really busy so service wasn't up to speed. Also ordering at the table isn't fail safe . Ordered drinks and dessert , drinks arrived 30 mins later asked about the desserts and they had been overlooked. Got them in the end and worth the wait.

Absolutely incredible place for food and service. Lively, scenic and great views on the canal. Dog friendly venue for those with pets. Friendly service and an attractive looking pub with out of this world food for a pub. Deffo recommend going

Visited this on Friday evening for the first time. It’s in a very relaxing environment. The outdoor seating area was lovely with plenty of tables. We arrived at around 9pm and had no problem getting a table. Cocktails are really tasty and well reasonably priced. Decor was pretty. Staff were friendly. They even had some performers signing some bangers. It truly felt like the start of summer. Will be return and recommend for sure. Will try the food next time

Great sort of "Bohemian" hidden gem. Clever decorating in the "The Duke"...now I have a new title for my business cards "Duke of Monton"!

Lunch was exceptional! Carbonara was delicious and definitely didn’t need the chips although they were really good! Fish and chips were light and fresh with good dish of mushy peas - didn’t have room for dessert but will be back soon! Great staff James looked after us and was chatty and friendly making you feel very at home.

I recently hosted my sister in laws baby shower at the Waterside and was blown away by how brilliant it was. The decor and atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous. We all had afternoon tea and it was probably the best afternoon tea I have ever had. The selection just kept coming and was utterly delicious! I have never seen so many scones before. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Nothing felt like too much trouble. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable time, celebrating a special event in our family.

We booked at the Waterside for Easter Sunday lunch and I can emphatically confirm that it did not disappoint. Out of the six of us in our parties (across three generations) four had the Sunday Roast, one had fish and chips and I had the Vegetarian Sunday Roast - which was a beautiful Goats Cheese Veg Roast. The food was sublime. Perfectly cooked, made with delicious fresh ingredients. We did not have dessert because we were so full after our main meal! A great selection of drinks were available. The polite, professional staff were attentive and efficient. The decor and ambience created a lovely relaxing vibe and it's location by the canal is just lovely. (Ample parking for those who drive.) I highly recommend the Waterside for a meal any time of the day. Best in Monton! We are now planning on booking for Christmas dinner.

Booking time was over booked for my mum’s 80th afternoon tea, nobody came in checking on tea or coffee refills, I managed to get on one cup of coffee , we paid £25 per person and there was over 20 of us , not happy at all with the service or the food , definitely won’t be booking again 0/10

We had a wonderful experience with the Monthly Taster Menu - Well explained per dish and it was also Good Value for money too - Thank you! We will be returning for the next one...May try the drinks package next time too.

Went for the six course tasting menu. The staff were great, James in particular. The whole experience was very enjoyable.

We attended the Taster night last Friday. Very impressed with the food and drinks pairings. Everything was explained really well by our waiter and interesting to find out how the choices were made. Thanks to Jo and the chef for organising veggie alternatives! Would really recommend the taster night for trying something different!

Had the best time for my mum’s 80th birthday. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Special thanks to James for organising. The food was hot, delicious and on time, even though there were 38 of us! We booked the four rooms upstairs too which were again amazing! Clean, comfy, everything we needed. My friends and I came to a taster menu at the Waterside last night. The food was gorgeous and Mike explained the drinks that accompanied each course really well and was fun and friendly At the last minute Jo, the owner adapted the menu for my friend. Fab night again here and staff, food and service are great 🙂

Arranged a family celebration meal for 19 people after our original booked restaurant in Monton let us down with just over a week to go. So glad we did because it turned out amazing. Natasha was extremely helpful in making everything go smoothly and on the night, the staff were all amazing. 19 people to serve and not a single hitch. Fantastic night had by all. Thankyou!!

I visited waterside this evening and the service from James was so welcoming and friendly. Food was so nice, especially the chocolate fudge cake!

Lovely venue. Delicious food. Friendly and accommodating staff. Decent prices. We went on a rainy Tuesday evening in January but it looked like it would be glorious on a nice summer day!

A very enjoyable experience on Friday evening. The waiter took no notes for four of us with two courses each and we were all served with exactly what we ordered. The food was outstanding and very well presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the music was unobtrusive.

Came here for a Sunday roast with friends. Ordered the tri meat Sunday roast for 16.95.. For this you got the meat, 3 roast potatoes a Yorkshire pudding... And the poorest selection of vegetables you have ever seen. Parsnips? Nope Broccoli? Nope Mash? Nope Peas? Nope Going out on a limb.. Swede? Nope Onions? Nope So what do you get to accompany your 3 roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding? A selection of sprouts, thin shredded cabbage and carrot batons. It's basically all the veg which your family would leave after a Christmas meal. What was there was really tasty hence the 2 stars but it's the saddest Sunday roast I've ever eaten. (Please see photos) I felt sad for missing out on a proper Sunday roast. We came here to have a change from Tobys... I think I would have rather gone Toby's to be honest. Won't be coming back.

Excellent venue well decorated for Christmas. Food and service spot on. Good selection of drinks and cocktails and mocktails.

We booked a last-minute table at 10pm the night prior for 7 people due to a cancellation elsewhere but then had to cancel unexpectedly due to one of the party taking seriously ill and to hospital in the early hours of the day of the booking. Management were rude and refused a refund of deposit paid. When asked why, considering the cancellation was less than 12 hours after the booking being made, they claimed that they had staff costs to cover due to our table being booked. Either they organise staffing at gone 10pm the night before shifts or they aren't being entirely truthful. Either way, I'd avoid. Lacking in compassion, rude and refusing to accommodate a genuine emergency on a day they'd absolutely be able to get the table covered.

Just had a spectacular meal at the water side bar, the place in very nice the staff are very well presented and polite, the meal was freshly made, tasty and hot they have a very good selection of beer's and spirits I would definitely recommend this place

Lovely Sunday lunch and great that adults can order a half portion, which not everyone offers. Food was great quality and service was really efficient. Nice, laid back atmosphere.

In my opinion it's a really overrated place with ridiculous prices, we booked in advance for a birthday party with around 15 people and they sent us a menu when booking and said we have to let them know now what we want "that was fine" then the day we get there they say they've changed the menu completely so was absolutely pointless even sending us the old menu. Then the food took an extremely long time and there was adults being served "in our party" before the children and I just thought it would be common sense to sort the children out first but obviously not. It also cost over £15 for a small "chewy" lasagne with no sides and the drinks options were very slim, in my opinion if your gonna spend daft money like that on food is rather go somewhere else as this place was not upto standard at all unfortunately.

‘Afternoon Tea’ was great value for money at £25 per head Lots of sandwiches, cakes and savouries. Beautifully presented on stands. Staff were lovely and extremely attentive. We were all very impressed (9 people on the booking) However, we was surprised to find that our food did not come with tea or coffee !! We had to purchase these separately. This is the first time I’ve had afternoon tea anywhere and not received a hot beverage as part of the experience. We all found this a bit odd as surely the clue is in the title …… Afternoon Tea 🫖!!

Great Sunday roast. Hot room though, sweating in October. Not cheap.

Younger staff didn't seem to know what they were doing, took 3 attempts to get them to bring out the drinks we ordered. When the food arrived it was lukewarm and overcooked to the point of being unedible, it felt like it had been cooked hours ago and had been hot held since then. Manager was rude and unapologetic because we didn't have time to wait for it to be recooked we were charged full price for barely edible food. Great location but won't be returning due to staff attitude.

Chose The Waterside to host baby shower which we held in The Lighthouse of the restaurant, which is beautifully presented and worked well with our decorations. We had a variety of dishes from the lunch menu, which was served on time, freshly made and delicious 😋 The staff are amazing, so thanks for making a special day perfect . 💯 ***

Good food, nice setting on the river, plenty parking at rear.

Unfortunately our experience at this restaurant was ruined by the front of house. My sister and I had been sitting down for approximately 10 minutes ( 13 minutes after our bookings started) before the front of house appeared to ask when the rest of our party would be joining us. We had not even been offered a drink before this. She then appeared again a few seconds later to inform us we had to leave the table at a certain time and asked us if we could please inform the rest of our party as they should hurry up. When booking there had been no mention of a time period (which we left in good time anyway), but the experience left us feeling anxious for the rest meal and unwanted at the restaurant. Overall the comment came across rudely and was not something I would expect from a front of house. I should add the rest of the staff were lovely and the food pretty good.

Absolutely love this place, the food is insane and just such a lovely relaxed place to be. Definitely one of my favourite places to eat.

Visited here for my Mum’s 70th birthday meal. Camembert starter was outstanding - best I’ve ever had! Ultimate burger main was a bit of a let down. Burger was way too dry and the “loaded” fries accompanying the burger were very much a light load. Asked for Coke as a drink - don’t know what they use there but it isn’t Coca-Cola! More like Roller-Cola! Despite the largely disappointing dining experience, the setting of the Waterside is beautiful and I’ll definitely be returning to sit out back next to the canal whilst having a couple of beers in the sun 😊 hopefully Birra Moretti, though and not Tesco Value lager!

Had Sunday lunch with my Mum. Busy food was ok veggies not cooked but loads of turkey. Waitress spilled drink didn't offer to change or even top up.

This is part of the Wetherspoons chain. I dropped in for coffee only but its a busy place with a variety of meals on offer and like most of their other outlets the food is very good. Its a good place for groups and families

Came for a Sunday Roast and it was amazing. Got the Trio of meats Sirloin Beef, Honey Roasted Gammon and Turkey, with crispy roast potatoes and a medley of vegetables and jug of gravy, oh and not forgetting the huge Yorkshire pudding. 10/10 . All for £15.95, can't complain about that in a cost of living crisis. It certainly filled me up. It was a busy location by the canalside, lots of walkers stopping off for a drink, very dog friendly. Very prompt service for the waiting on staff. Next time will try out their rooms to stay in, as they look amazing. Definitely a place to visit. Will be back.

We have been a couple of times now and at busy and quiet periods and have always found the service and the quality of food top notch. The drinks menu is really extensive too! It’s great to just bob in for a drink if you’ve been on a walk or to book in for a meal. Sunday roasts are amazing

Went for a girls night out to celebrate a birthday. Service was good, cocktails were nice. The food was really nice. The price was good. There was live music on, right near our table, I was expecting it to be over powering, but it was actually really good. Would definitely go again.

Took over an hour for starters to arrive. Grazing board was disappointing. Sea bass was way too fishy. Pepperoni on pizza was extremely rubbery. Something made 2 people sick. Staff were very nice though. Overall not a good experience.

Went last night 29th july 13 people celebrating my 70th. All i can say is what a great night, food fantastic, staff amazing nothing to much trouble. Certainly made the end of my celebration for a new decade t9hank you so much 💓

Me and my friend visited this restaurant on 13.5.21. I ordered through the app and requested alternative milk in my latter and no olives on my salad which none of these were adhered too. When my salad arrived and I began eating it I noticed a short black curly hair within the tuna which resembled a pubic hair. This instantly made me feel physically sick. I immediately informed the waiter who took my plate away and just said sorry. There was no empathy or remorse in this apology. The waiter returned and asked if I would like another dish which I refused due to feeling sick and asked for a full refund. I paid a total amount of £15.85 on my card through the app. In return I got £11.95 in cash. The salad in total cost £12.95, therefore I was short changed by £1 and paid for the coffee which I am sure did not have my request of alternative milk in. I did not raise this with the staff as I did not want to make scene with other customers present. The manager of the restaurant walked past my table 2-3 times while I was sat with nothing in front of me whilst my friend finished her meal which she did not enjoy as she was looking for hairs and the manager did not come over once and apology or even offer me a complimentary drink. This was my first time visiting the restaurant and I certainly would NEVER return due to the poor customer service and extremely poor hygiene in the kitchen and within the food. I would not recommend anyone to attend this restaurant!!!!

Visited on Saturday with my son. We were both hungry so we ordered garlic cheese bread, the seafood bucket and the Rib eye, then to finish, the cheesecake. The food was well cooked, plentiful and the service spot on. This is our fourth time here and we will definitely be going back.

Went on bank holiday Monday, 3rd May - party of 4 braved the weather for a birthday lunch. The staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us in trying conditions - kept smiling throughout. Well done!

I booked a table for the Bank holiday Monday evening the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There was help to use the app for paying and I think the gentleman who was seating everyone was doing an amazing job I'm sure he was the manager. The food and drinks were great and we were sat under shelter even with the rain it was a lovely evening we would definitely recommend and go back.They also reply quickly to emails when you have a query.

Despite the persistent wind & rain during our outdoor dining experience, the food was delicious & very fairly priced for the quality & quantity you get. The most memorable & important part of our meal though, was the staff. Although cold & wet, catching parasols flying off the tables & trying to keep the gazebo steady; all the staff were smiley, chatty & friendly. We will definitely be going back, whatever the weather

Visited here bank holiday weekend. It was quiet busy but service was still outstanding, nothing was too much trouble & the food was amazing! The only let down (which can’t be helped) was the weather! Can’t wait to return!

Visited today during a huge downpour, this didn’t stop us having a great time though! Despite working in the pouring rain, all the staff were smiling and attentive to all of the customers. We couldn’t of asked for better service from each one of them. The service was fast and the food amazing!

Called here Sunday 2nd May on the off chance after getting soaked to the skin during an unexpected downpour. Staff managed to find us a table with cover, even though we hadn't booked. Sunday lunch was delicious but what made our visit was the sunny personality of our waiter Oliver! An absolute delight! He really brightened what had started out as a miserable day. Couldn't recommend more highly. Good food is great, but excellent customer service really makes the visit worthwhile!

Now that the UK is slowly emerging from its hibernation, one of our favourite eateries has reopened. It is a year since we lost my mother-in-law to Covid and after a visit to the cemetery we contacted the Waterside for lunch. They were sympathetic to our request as it was one of her favourite restaurants. They quickly arranged for 2 tables to be reserved for our party and true to their word they did. The QR booking allowed immediate access to the menu and ordering facility and it was so easy to order. The food came within 15 minutes along with drinks and was hot, tasty, and plenty enough to fill me up. Great service too, especially Mike the manager who couldn't do enough and was politeness personified. Glad its back open and will no doubt be back shortly

Visited on Saturday 1st May, and despite a rainy start to the day, our spirits were quickly lifted by a wonderful greeting from the staff and being looked after and made to feel welcome and comfortable front the get go. The team were attentive and it really made the transition back in to ‘normality’ easy and fun. The food was delicious and service was so quick! So thank you for such a lovely Saturday afternoon lunch.I’ve seen a comment further down about having to queue despite having booked which I just find shocking. Can’t believe people have that kind of attitude as if we haven’t been living in a pandemic for over a year. Everybody is doing their best and that review is massively unfair on this fantastic establishment.Thanks again for having us and we’ll be back soon!

Visited today for the first time since lockdown with friends and as always, the food was gorgeous, the atmosphere was great and the staff warm, helpful and attentive. A fab place that ticks all the boxes; couldn’t recommended more highly! 5*

Fabulous long overdue catch-up with friends. Front of house was amazing really helpful to both those that had booked and trying to accommodate those that hadn’t. All social distancing and COVID rules adhered to. We were asked to order through the app which was easy & efficient, with both drinks and food being served promptly by lovely waiting staff on a very busy night. Food was piping hot, tasty and very reasonably priced. Well done The Waterside, it’s good to be back!

As always had a really lovely lunch, peaceful setting, beautiful food and fantastic service! Staff can’t do enough to help. We asked to move table as we were cold in the shade and was moved right away. Probably the nicest Sunday lunch in the local area.My partner ordered a burger and it was HUGE! Was very good value for money and good quality! Both meals were delicious. We will be back soon :)

We visited as the first place post lockdown.We have lived here several years and always come to the waterside for a great meal.Booking online is so useful even pre covid, and the addition of pay by phone is fantastic, just needs some clarity for those booking that they should order as one group from one phone or food comes at different points.What has driven me to write this review is the fact that I knew the person who has decided to review below (3 stars and “holding fee of £15” comment) - I knew they would write that review... so I wanted to negate it and support Paul, Mike and the waterside team. So- this person below had the audacity to be so rude to Mike (the madly rushed off his feet, very polite manager on duty who seated me bang on time with my little) and also to us queue of “booked” and “non-booked” guests. In fact- he ignored all social distancing and barged through a queue he wrongly assumed was all of “non booked guests”. In fact we had booked and all paid £5 pppn deposit, (maybe one person was hoping for a walk in...they weren’t on his table and didn’t stop him getting his table, they’re there, hoping for a cancellation)He paid £15 as there were three of them in his party, not booked at a VIP table, it was a covid deposit. Just to clarify that also. I know- I paid the same, and got it refunded back to me the following day no bother at all. He expected to be seated immediately at half 2 and demanded to know if the queue had paid- demanded individuals say their “status” and still wanted to push to the front when told they had queued- but staff were cleaning between customers so he needed to wait about 4 minutes past half 2.A queue is a queue pal. When you book a table at 7pm in a restaurant, you don’t always get sat if previous customer is still there. Mike handled him well despite being non-stop busy.I just have to make it clear their booking system is spot on, they were wildly busy- this guy was wrong and rude. Paul and the team- thank you for great service and I hope he stands corrected and reads this.You get your deposit refunded when you email after attending- it’s the fair way to do it as businesses are losing out when customers no show!Thanks waterside- we will be back :)
