Great atmosphere acompanied by great food and on point customer service. Price on the upper end, But you get what you pay for, and even better. 10/10 will come again

Had lunch today for the first time and what a great place. The staff were professional, courteous, polite and hard working. The food was beautiful and of a high quality. Great atmosphere too. Very chilled and relaxing. Lucky to be seated near the kitchen and could see how hard the staff work and the attention they paid to the food. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and will most definitely revisit soon.

I adore the Black Friar! My family and I came for a special birthday last year and returned again this year for Christmas Eve. Our server Will was absolutely brilliant. We had a couple of issues with our mains but he had them sorted in no time and made sure we left happy. The food was so delicious, as were the cocktails. Thank you so much to all the staff for working so hard over the festive period and making our Christmas Eve meal one to remember :)

Went on NYE, set menu where every course was a delight. Lovely warm greeting on arrival, taken to our table and the menu explained. Service was impeccable and always with a smile. Cannot recommend this place enough. We have been before and it has always given 💯, did wonder if they could keep those standards at such a busy time. And boy did they!! Just AMAZING, big thank you to the lovely Camille who served us with such a smile, warmth and made the whole experience even better. Happy New Year!

We had the five course New Year menu. The food was outstanding in presentation and taste. As a vegetarian, it was nice to have some variety. Our server, Will , was spot on and treated us like royalty. He was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was our first visit, but we were so impressed, we will definitely return.

Lydia was very attentive and friendly! She gave great recommendations and serving suggestions for our group. Will definitely be returning, thank you Lydia!

Came in for a meal with my friends from home and had a great time. Food was amazing and the service was excellent. Especially the prawn starter. Camille our waitress was very friendly and attentive and made our experience that much better. All in all a very good evening and the Rioja wine was to die for.

The restaurant are is absolutely fantastic the decor and layout make it a truly wonderful environment our server was delightful and so very happy and helpful. The food was delicious the truffle arancini and fresh made bread were divine, venison scrumptious and the pork was great. The divine father cocktail was the perfect finish to the a wonderful dining experience.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve family meal at the Black Friar, the atmosphere was lovely and festive. Our server Will was really attentive and helpful with any questions and quickly resolved an issue we had with our mains. He was so lovely and really made our experience!

What a pleasure to stumble on to this particular food pub. The place was packed and we were glad that we had pre-booked on-line. We arrived early and it was standing room only at the bar. Our table was made available promptly and the service was fast, friendly and efficient. The waiters and waitresses are very knowledgeable of their job and promoted the pub in a very good light, also informing us of future events that we are now eager to attend. The food arrived quite quickly and was steaming hot and so delicious. 100% recommended

We were a group of 8 having dinner on Christmas Eve. The food was incredible - get the sticky toffee pudding if you can! Staff were attentive and happy to help with whatever we needed. Highly recommended!

Party of 11 booked. Orders came out cold, food under cooked or some come completely inedible. Made one person physically sick in the toilets the food was that disgusting. Out of a party of 11 people not one person enjoyed their food. Save yourself the money and get a better meal at Wetherspoons for fraction of price. Worst place I’ve ever eaten in my life! Would not recommend to anyone, not even my dog and will definitely not be returning.

We had a good Christmas meal here. The service was great, the food was good, and the atmosphere was lively. However, the price felt slightly higher than expected. We spent between £50-100 per person, including the tip. While it was nice, it unfortunately didn’t feel like good value for money. Hopefully, this will improve in the future.

We had our work Christmas party in the Winter Tavern and it was absolutely brilliant. Everyone was so impressed by the food, the atmosphere and the amazing, attentive service from Will and Curtis! Thanks so much, I am sure we will be back!

What a wonderful Christmas Eve we had. Food was absolutely delicious (one of best in Manchester) very friendly staff and Christmas vibe spot on. We had a drinks also which they made a cocktail for us that was not on the menu. Our waitress Camille was so lovely. I will be back soon!

Booked as part of Rum tasting session at Salford Rum, which was really enjoyable. The pub is beautifully decorated for Christmas both outside and in. Our table was in the covered outside part, which was surprisingly welcoming, warm and comfortable. The set menu was adequate but felt it was a little cheeky to have add on costs for some of the dishes, such as the lobster and prawn Scotch Egg +£5 and the sirloin steak +£10 which I chose to order. Our booking included £30 per person for 2 courses, towards the cost of the food but still ended up paying an additional £89 with the food add ons £15, the cost of the wine £28, we added desserts, coffee and service charge. My wife enjoyed her meal choices of the goats cheese starter and the pie & mash mains. My starter was delicious, the lobster & prawn scotch egg, whereas my choice of mains, the sirloin steak, was slightly disappointing in quality, which was chewy and the fries which seemed like a frozen variety!!! Also slightly disappointed with the prices of the wines on offer. Cheapest bottle was £28. However on saying all the above we enjoyed our overall experience and would like to thank Liv and Lydia, our servers, who were both very friendly, professional and attentive without being intrusive and made sure we were well looked after. Thank you. Beautiful surroundings, terrific staff and service but price and quality of some of the dishes let it down a tad.

Me and my mum travelled to Manchester and while waiting to check in our hotel thought we would call in to this lovely place we spotted nearby, decorated beautifully every room we walked through we were in awe. Dining in what can only be described as a gorgeous christmas grotto, the food was exquisite and the thing that topped this experience was the service from our lovely waitress Liv professional attentive and very friendly. We will certainly be coming back Thankyou!

We had an excellent meal her last night. The atmosphere is cosy and Christmasy. The food was delicious and the service from Lydia and Liv was warn and welcoming. We'll definitely be coming back again.

A fantastic experience all round. We arrived with no reservation and sadly the place was fully booked, but they managed to squeeze us in regardless which made our night! The food and drinks were sublime and we had expert service from Hadar, with a big smile! Thank you Hadar and the BF team 😁 highly recommend!

First time eating here and I was very happy with my experience. The food was outstanding, possibly the nicest pie I’ve ever had. My friend and I were served by Liv for the night and for a first time going somewhere, we couldn’t have asked for a better person to look after us. She was very helpful regarding explaining the menu, giving recommendations etc and just kept checking on us to see how the night was going and that made us feel like we weren’t just another 2 customers. All in all it was a great night and I will definitely be coming back.

Lucky enough to have visited the festive menu twice already! And both times with the lovely Will who always has a smile and is so helpful. I love this place, spectacularly cosy Christmas feels and the food and drinks are brilliant always.

I dined here and ordered the sirloin steak dinner which I can’t fault as it was delicious. Although I must say we asked how much one course would be and was told it would be £28. When we got the bill they charged extra for peppercorn sauce and sirloin steak which added an extra £30 to the bill. We enquired this with the waiter who was lovely and stated it was in small print whilst on the menu. From a consumer point of view I think it is wrong to state a price and then have it changed. The waiter we had was lovely and gave a discount due to misunderstanding from both sides , I was just not happy to be told one price then be given another.

Visited last night with 4 friends for our Christmas meal. The place was beautifully decorated and welcoming. Our waiter, Anton was a charming host, who after introducing himself did a great job of ensuring we had a wonderful time, checking regularly how everything was going and if we needed anything. As a result we had an amazing evening in an old and beautifully decorated iconic venue with wonderful food and cocktails which I highly recommend. All the staff work hard to ensure you have a great time!

4 of us came to eat in the festive tavern. Wow what a set up. It looks absolutely amazing. Everything was perfect except for a few small moans. No bread with the soup and a couple of roasties and a few carrots wouldn't of gone a miss on the turkey dinner, it was really quite small. Apart from that we loved every second and will be back ! Thanks for a lovely meal!

Came last night for our works christmas party. We were kindly given a private room which was beautiful and just made our experience even better. Service was great, Mark went above and beyond. Food was to die for will definitely be returning! Everyone was jealous they didn't choose the truffle mash. My first time here but definitely won't be my last!

We recently had our Christmas Do in the Choirs Loft and would 100% recommend. Food was spot on and the drinks flowed all evening. Special shout out to Lydia and Will for looking after us!!

Great decor for Christmas in the tavern. Lovely staff, who are very warm and welcoming. Highly recommend to anyone. No parking nearby though. The venue is very big inside, small and cosy when you walk in with a lovely fire, and then an airy larger room, an outside area, then the tavern ( large tented area). We enjoyed our visit

I really want to give this place 5 stars because the food is incredible and the pub itself is a gorgeous space. I'm giving it a 4.8 out of 5. We had 2 courses. The salmon gravadlax was amazing and the roast is one of the best ive had in Manchester. The beef is cooked to perfection and the complimentary cauliflower cheese is a lovely touch. Cannot fault the food. Sophie our waitress was brilliant. Very attentive and lovely. Always checking if we had enough to drink etc. I howevee taking away a couple points because although we arrived about 12 mins early we were lumped at the bar and pretty much ignored for 10 mins. Just felt like we were in the way that whole time. However I understand as the place was heaving. Our table was right by the bar which I didn't really appreciate as there were always guests stood at the bar right next to us in the way so I would have preferred to have been further into the restaurant. They are both very minor points though and despite this I would 100% recommend Black Friar to anyone. The food 10/10. Service from Sophie 10/10.

We had an absolutely amazing night here! We booked The Sanctuary room for 20 of us to celebrate a special occasion, and it couldn’t have been better. The food was fantastic—every single person loved their meal. The service was something else. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. It was such a memorable evening, and I’d recommend this place to anyone.

Lovely pub Very festive ambience and service was helpful and friendly I had heard great things about the food and was excited to try their Monkfish The monkfish was about three mouthfuls with mash and gravy It just did not live up to my expectations I understand it’s a personal taste but gravy and mash did not work for me plus a tiny portion I left the restaurant slightly disappointed My two family members thoroughly enjoyed their pie and turkey I would go back but maybe not at Xmas our drinks order forgot to arrive and the noise of people stood at the bar meant we could not hear other Lovely staff but they were very busy and were trying their best

Had a brilliant meal here during their busy December/Christmas peak time. From start to finish the service was outstanding. Alex and Rob were so welcoming and accommodated any of our requests about with a smile! The food here is of such high quality. It's got a pub charm but with a modern twist and all of the dishes are packed with flavour - even the bread and butter from the nibbles was spectacular. Absolutely love this place and will be back soon.

I had a starter and a main from the festive menu. Food was overpriced considering how small the portion sizes were. Although the service was good, it did not justify the ludicrously high service charge amount applied to the bill.

Visited a couple of times over the last 2 months and on each occasion it has been a very enjoyable evening. The food is delicious and given the quality I would say it's great value for money. The service is outstanding, every member of staff who we spoke to was great. Special mention to our server Lydia who is the most attentive, efficient and friendly waitress I have met. Nothing was too much trouble and she made our night that little bit more enjoyable just by being great at her job!

This was our 6th visit here for a sunday roast and it’s so amazingly consistent! Mark our server was so knowledgable with the menu and cocktails and was just lovely, will be back again soon ☺️

The pub was done up beautifully for Christmas, definitely felt festive and got us in the Christmas spirit. Victor was awesome and did a fantastic job of keeping our large table happy. The food let it down slightly, mash with zero seasoning, the turkey ballotine was overdone and the gravy wasn't the best but the pie, Yorkshire puddings and parfait were top notch.

I was excited to celebrate my husband’s birthday at The Black Friar, but the experience fell short of expectations. I had booked a table via email for my husband’s birthday, expecting a special evening. We had booked in advance, but when we arrived, we were seated in the waiting area near the entrance. If I would know that we will get a table there, we would never book it. It wasn’t ideal, as the doors kept opening, letting in cold air, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the evening. The food was great, but the service could use improvement. We waited quite a while for our meals, and when it came time for dessert, we had to ask multiple times for someone to take our order. Unfortunately, after waiting 20 minutes, we were told our time was up, and we had to leave without having dessert or cake. Imagine trying to celebrate a birthday without even getting to enjoy dessert or a cake! It was disappointing overall, especially for a special occasion. While the food was enjoyable, the seating and service took away from the experience.
