The food is very good, if a little unbalanced, displaying the best of British cuisine. Drink-wise, the opposite: all mass produced by international megabrewers which is odd when there are a dozen local award-winning breweries and distilleries on their doorstep.

Had an amazing Christmas experience … made even special thanks to Antonella and his cocktails choices …. We had 5 starters (lots of drinks) and sides between us and it did not disappoint …. This place is a hidden gem

Such a nice and fancy place. Victor was amazing. Always so friendly and attentive. We’ve been twice and it has been because of him! Makes you want to go back. Lovely ambiance and amazing food.

What a joke this place is, we saw how they presented it on social media, all Christmas themed and decorated so nicely and we booked for my birthday, when booking it did not once ask us what area we wanted to be in, we traveled over an hour in a taxi, when we got there they is a tiny area in the back that’s decorated that doesn’t hold many people and the rest of the pub is so basic, I asked why we was shoved in a corner and if we could be in the Christmas area and it was full. We waited 20 mins before we was seated, seated in the corner of a regular pub and the food was basic, not worth the price atall! What a disappointment this place is! Don’t even bother!

We travelled over an hour to come here, as we seen it advertised that it was all christmas decorations. However upon arriving we was seated at the front of the pub. There wasn’t anything to tell us that we needed to state where we wanted to be seated upon booking this. I wanted to make it special for my girlfriends birthday however this wasn’t the case and my girlfriend was upset.

Unsure about this place ordered a steak and ale pie with mash and greens it ended up pie chips in a cup and what looked like lettuce for greens. Portions are very small for the price aswell. Also had the dessert which was a custard tart with sorbet which was £10 try a Portuguese tart from marks and spencer £1.50 see the difference

Booked a reservation at the black friar for my birthday on Friday night, Will the waiter was lovely helped the full table out even suggested a meal for me to have as I didn't want anything to filling, the recommendation was perfect i really enjoyed it. Will was really helpful happy and patient with us all would highly recommend coming here also decorated beautifully.

Visited for an anniversary meal, as it was the festive menu it was 2 courses for £37 or 3 for £45. There weren’t a great selection of starters, 2 were fish and the only meat option was pate. The soup was lovely but found it a bit strange that you didn’t get any bread at all with it, I found that the tart had soggy pastry. Onto main courses and the Sunday roast was just ok. The monkfish was actually pretty good but we left feeling a little underwhelmed unfortunately.

That was honestly shocking to me. Thankfully the main made up for it to an extent but I still feel ripped off. I don't mind paying a premium if the place has the chops but this place had ONE toilet for the ladies, we had a load of people cramped up next to us on the next table so I'm not sure if the overall experience justifies this. The service was excellent so that's another thing for positive. Mixed review overall!

Lovely atmosphere to the pub, especially around christmas time where its all decorated. We came in on a Friday 9pm, and the place was fully booked. Attentive staff found us a spot outside, and they remembered our request to be transferred inside when a space becomes available. Cocktails are slightly expensive, and the one we had picked was not to my partner's satisfaction. She had it replaced with no qualms. Top service here. I would've given 5 stars but the fact one of the cocktails wasn't great means I had to drop one star. Other than that, the atmosphere, the crowd and the staff are all great.

We came at 4.30 this afternoon. The service was second to none. We was served by Mark. He was so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was to much. The room was dressed beautifully and certainly got you in the mood for Christmas. I had the fish and chips. Wow what can I say, it was delicious. Would highly recommend and will certainly be back again.

We had my daughter’s 21 st birthday party in the upstairs room. The atmosphere, food, service, drinks were first class. There were 19 of us and everyone had 3 courses. Each dish was loved by all the guests.. this is such a special place.

Lovely Christmas decorations, great help from one extremely diligent waitress and a tasty vegan Sunday roast in the end. One star dropped as there was a set menu which led to quite a lot of confusion over the vegan starter and vegan dessert and we had to do a lot of back and forth. As there is a vegan roast, it's a great idea to also have a vegan starter and dessert on the set menu. Especially when the vegan chocolate cake was excellent and a vegan starter was available. It just had to be asked about, and some staff were unsure. We would visit again, and hopefully bump up to 5 star, now we know how the Sunday menu works.

Went here for a friends birthday. The place was jam-packed, and no wonder the Sunday lunch is amazing. The beef (of which there is plenty) was soft and pink and cooked perfectly. Excellent Sunday dinner. Really nice pub with lots of outdoor seating and 2 pods for those wanting a bit more warmth. Heaters outside with the tables. Different rooms are available for private functions. Drinks are also reasonably priced (£8+ for a pint of black friar lager and a half pint). Lovely place with really good food.

Fantastic service and wonderful food. Organising a small wedding living in another country is stressful and the staff went above and beyond to help. The room was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Thank you. All of our family from out of Manchester and from Manchester said they will be back for sure. We have actually come back this week for food again and it didn't disappoint.

I visited Black Fire Pup on a Wednesday with my friend, and we enjoyed a cappuccino while sitting in the garden out back. The ambiance was absolutely amazing and incredibly relaxing. From the moment we stepped in, we felt instantly at home, as if we were with close friends and family. The only suggestion I would make is to have someone keep an eye on guests in the garden. At times, we had to get up ourselves for service. Other than that, it was an amazing experience. Thank you for the warm atmosphere and wonderful time!

Family of 10 adults 1 baby booked for 3 30 on Sunday.Very busy. Firstly the staff are amazing one of our group was on crutches due to a recent knee op even brought a low stool to raise her leg to be more comfortable. Our lovely server went through the menu and explained all dishes and answered questions. During the entire time returning to see if we needed extra drinks etc. We were not rushed at all Food was lovely our group had some 3 courses others had 2. Lovely atmosphere attentive staff beutiful food will definitely be returning soon

10/10 recommend this place for a Sunday roast in Manchester ! We had the roast chicken roast which was stunning! Absolutely loved every single bit of it. The atmosphere was super cozy and cute with little fires and autumnal decorations and fairy lights. The service was also impeccable ! Very very pleased with this little pub.

Imagine a world where Slug and Lettuce tripled their prices. This is it. Steak was tougher than the Erik ten Hag era.

We came as a family for an event. Atmosphere was amazing, food was to die for (I'm looking at you, sticky toffee pudding!) and to top that the venue is, oh my word, outstanding! They also covered dietary requirements with ease (gluten and soya free) Unfortunately I left an item behind and, because I live hundreds of miles away, the staff kindly went out of their way to help me get it back home. Above and beyond venue and service. I can't thank them all enough.

10/10 would recommend. We came here for a hungover Saturday lunch. The place was gorgeous we sat in a light filled atrium. The service was great - super attentive, warm and all over every detail. The food was BRILL! Proper, delicious English grub. The pie is definitely worth a try. As you can see we ate everything so quickly we forgot to take pictures. We had such a lovely time. Can’t recommend enough!

I came to Blackfriars pub 3 years ago with a friend. Rude staff £30 for one small stake, no sides or anything. It looks nice inside but the truth is its horrible

Quite expensive and posh place with great customer service. Food is nicely cooked. Ideal for a date! Kids menu was nice. However, the tiramisu was a little blunt and it did not have the required coffee sharpness.

I have to say that the food and the table staff are absolutely lovely. However, there is always an issue when I try to book here. Online it doesn’t come up with tables to book for food but then when you call there is availability? The first time the lady on the phone booked me in for the wrong time and didn’t send me a confirmation email, when I arrived at the restaurant they told me I was 15 minutes late so I didn’t have a table. Firstly, I understand mistakes happen but why did no one call me to ask me if I was on my way? If they had done this then I would’ve explained my table was at a different time to what they had me down as. This was quite embarrassing, they did fit me in but only because I made a fuss and told them you didn’t even send me a confirmation email. I find the front of house staff quite rude & dismissive but the only reason I go back is because the food is lovely & the table staff are so friendly. But you should really improve your booking system.

Why do you harm your restaurant’s trusthworthiness and legitimacy by claiming the orange juice is “freshly squeezed”, when it is, in fact, your regular-Joe juice from a supermarket carton? The only real orange in it is the wedge you put in there for effect. (See attached pictures)

Decided to go here after seeing all about The Black Friar on social media for a Sunday dinner. We are really glad that we did! We were greeted with a warm welcome and taken through to the main dining area. Our waiter, Vitor, deserves all the compliments, super attentive, took the time to explain how the Sunday menu works and kept checking on us to ensure we didn’t need anything else. The food was delicious, the roasted chicken was incredible and my partner said the burger was great. Puddings were to die for. We will definitely go back.

We have been to Black Friars a few times for Sunday roast, and for events. The staff are always so attentive and the food has always been really good. Our most recent visit was really good. We did not have a booking but they were very welcoming, and Morgan looked after us all throughout. She was really friendly and made sure we had a fab time. We will always have Black Friars as one of our fave places to go to.

I had a brilliant meal last week, and I appreciated the high quality of food and service in particular Anete and Hadar who had served me were excellent!

Just been for Sunday roast, and couldn’t not review. Every single member of staff here (hosts, bartenders, servers, managment) ware so welcoming and attentive, so refreshing to meet people who genuinely care about their craft. Dinner was genuinely one of the best roasts I’ve ever eaten in 35 years, chefs are clearly very passionate about they do. Faultless experience. Thankyou!

We booked on a Thursday evening and assumed the restaurant would be quite quiet but it was full on busy but despite that Will, assisted by Lydia, made the evening for us with their excellent service despite clearly being run off their feet. The food was of excellent quality with perfect portion sizes and the only one criticism I would have to make is that for me, an Irish Coffee should have a spoonful of brown sugar in it, but it didn’t detract from what was a memorable meal. Thank you Will (and Lydia) you deserve a medal!

£70 for one pie and chips and a burger & 4 pints. Quality nothing to write home about. Bill included (optional) service charge 10% you would be embarrassed about asking for it to be removed.

This was our third family visit now and each time the food and service have been excellent. It's been a while since our 2nd visit, and hopefully, we won't leave it as long before coming back again. If there was one thing that they could improve on it would be the non/low-alcohol options - one lager (Menabrea) and two mocktails don't give you much choice (soft drinks aside). Staff are very attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. The chicken paprika and garlic pie was absolutely divine. In fact it sounded so good that 5 out of 6 of our party ordered it! None of us were disappointed, and those that failed to finish it asked for a box to take it home in! We really will have to come back to sample the a la carte menu as it seems all of our visits have so far been on a Sunday when they do a slightly reduced "Sunday menu".

Gastropub with nice interior and attractive menu. We had lovely bread and a nice gazpacho. The fish snd chips was ok but the rump steak was of poor quality - I should have complained - it came with average fries but a good pepper sauce. Really nice staff - maybe deserves sn extra chance

We hired the Black Friar for our wedding after eating there several times & it was amazing from start to finish. The initial meeting, the contact throughout, dealing with our questions, the staff were impeccable on the day, & of course the food was fantastic. The pride they take in what they do is clear to see; it’s not just about the fantastic food, it’s about the top level service & atmosphere they deliver. Cannot speak any higher of The Black Friar for food or private hire. A truly great place.

I celebrated my birthday last Sunday with some friends and we had the best time! Will looked after us and made our life easier and ensured everything was perfect (some of us arrived before and a group of 3 later and nothing was a problem for him!). We’re never let down by The Black Friar. Its souped-up fancy pub menu always hits the spot. It’s perhaps a bit more money than your average pub fayre, but then it’s not average pub fayre. Hearty pies, delicious snacks, even bread and butter is elevated. Get there between 4-6:30pm on a week day, and it’s happy hour too. What’s not to love? Super friendly, relaxed staff and a fascinating split personality of a pub/fine-dining restaurant so that you get a choice between feeling fancy or settling in and getting cosy. Go on! Give it a try!

Highly impressed by both the food and the quirky venue in the depths of Salford City central when we attended a large family party here. There was a BBQ provided for way in excess of 100 people and each part of it, from the rice to the kebabs, was well cooked and tasty in its own right. The space is impressive, a variety of rooms and a beautiful enclosed garden. The staff must be complimented at this busy event: unobtrusive, busy, polite and hard working to ensure everything ran smoothly. Finally, our experience was that this was a very child friendly space, both safe and accommodating. Definitely a recommended venue, in general and for a special event.

We went for Amelia's Birthday Lunch whilst visiting Manchester. Great buzz to the place as soon as you walk in. Settled in by Hadar how was fantastic, great advice, fun and engagement. Followed was a great sunday lunch and deserts backed up with great customer service from Victor and Mark. Lovely interior , will definitely visit again when in Manchester. Absolutely fantastic venue, service and food. Wow. I went for my bday with 7 people. Can not fault this place. I will be back as will many of the people I was with. Someone from the party is already planning their December birthday there.

First time visit (a treat from the family). Food and ambience first rate. Waitress was brilliant and thoroughly explained the menu combinations that were available. Gravy was absolutely exquisite, could drink the stuff! There are Gluten free alternatives. No car park, but within walking distance of several car parks. Wheelchair users may have problems, as it's a 'cosy' venue.

A place that has different menus for every occasion and budget. The fixed price menu changes each month and on this occasion we wanted a pre event meal so we went for the a la carte choice. There is a happy hour drink offer before 6pm. Wine by the bottle and other drinks at a discount. Nice portion sizes and timely service from lovely well organised staff. 5-10 mins walk from the Ao arena meant we could have a nice meal before our evening entertainment. Would love to go back for the fixed price 2,3 course offering. Right on trinity way.

Attended a dinner here with a group of colleagues this week and the service was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Very accommodating to any requests made, which was greatly appreciated. Food was brilliant, I ordered steak & chips with peppercorn sauce which was divine. They even have their own bespoke sodas…elderflower and mint was very refreshing. A great selection of alcoholic drinks and spot on recommendations from staff. The decor and overall feel of the place was very warm and inviting. For the service and quality of the food and drinks it’s very reasonably priced. Had a wonderful evening, thank you to Mark and his team for looking after us all. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Manchester!

Great spot right by the bustling centre of Manchester, beautifully converted old building and a stunning garden and has the quality of a village gastro pub in a modern setting. A lot of effort has clearly gone into the level of service and aesthetics - lovely bar with a vast selection of wine. Look forward to returning!

**REALLY POOR SERVICE** I lived in the apartment block behind the pub for around two years so have been to this place 10-20 times since it opened. The food has always been good but the one thing that is a massive let down is the service. I've been there on a number of occasions and regularly had to wait 20-30 minutes just to get a drink and then another 20 minutes to pay the bill. There are perks to living in the blocks in that you get a discount for the pub but very few people actually use it primarily for this reason. I'd recommend it for the food (if you have time to burn and don't mind being ignored) but stay well clear if you just want a drink

The first time I went it was wonderful to eat. I recently whent back for Sunday lunch. I took a very dear friend to say thank you for advising me on a very personal matter.. she didn't like her meals at all. I said to her if you don't like it don't eat it. I wouldn't be offended if she leaves it. She did leave it. God I was disappointed with the whole experience . This time. As I was talking about the meals we had last time and how nice it was. We were put so close to the entrance . the the door was open and it was cold.. as it's on a main road I did ask for a different table. There was none. I feel i wasted 95 pounds on the food and the whole experience. I'm sorry I've had put this review on.. unfortunately as $95 pound is a lot of money. For some people.

I'm in a wheelchair, we tried two doors but they were shut. One was then opened from the inside. There is a step up into the tight reception area. We were offered a seat in the garden. Another step. The menu was brief and, I'm sure, delightful. But after struggling to get to a table I was dissapointed to find that the prices were beyond our budget for lunch. We were helped to the, thankfully, flat emergency exit by a very friendly helpful waiter. Not wheelchair friendly.

Varied menu. Visited on a Sunday - party of 4 adults. All had the roast, one chicken, 3 pie ( beef and ale ). All enjoyed, excellent taste, lots of beef in the pie. They do a 2 or 3 course deal, but I was full just with the roast, which comes with mashed and roast potatoes, huge Yorkie, mashed swede, and cauli cheese. The ithers did have a dessert each - 2 Scicilian lemon tarts and a knickerbocker glory, which were demolished. Bottle of wine and a 7 brothers IPA. Came to £42 each with service charge. Highly rate this place, nice walk out of centre of M/C for 10 mins. The place was very busy, so book.
