Great experience for Sunday roasts on Mother's Day! Highly recommended!

My 2nd visit to Black Friar and yet again they exceeded my expectations, from the warm welcome at the door as we entered , to all the professional staff, amazing Mothers Day menu , fabulous Gavi wine and relaxed warm atmosphere. Particularly loved the huge stunning flower display outside, really brightened my day and the little parting gift of a chocolate cake wrapped up especially for Mothers Day was a lovely touch. A huge thank you to Will our main server, who was happy, informative and absolutely great at his job , huge asset to your company along with Mark our other Server . Both these guys made our little Mothers Day lunch feel real special.!Thank you guys , great job!! 10/10 Black Friar 100% recommend 🙂

Always a wonderful delight - this mother's day Sunday special with Amy, who nailed keeping us well hydrated and fed throughout, and was fantastically begun and finished with Mark, who kept us chuckling until we left. This place is a special and whether it be £10 January pies or spectacular seasonal displays. Until next time!

Excellent restaurant, food & service. Have visited a couple of times. Love the mix of old pub in the bar area and the plant room watching the excellent chefs. Hadar & Mark really looked after us.

Went there for mother's day meal,was absolutely amazing especially the waitress service ,and the food was gorgeous will definitely be going back.

Had a superb meal today at the Black Friar. Staff wonderful (we were primarily served by Amy who was fantastic) but the whole team were attentive, knowledgable and on hand when required. Food was exceptional. We’ll def be coming back as I’ve one of their pies I need to experience, but for now, today as a mother’s day treat for my wife from the kids this was wonderful. Could have only been improved if the kids actually paid for it…..! Food, venue and service top drawer 👌

Last minute dinner for two. Restaurant is stunningly decorated, outside and in, with Easter/ Spring theme. Food was exceptional and table service from Lydia was outstanding. Special mention for the Ox Cheeks and Manchester Tart- fabulous. Definitely recommend.

Honestly the best place in Salford. Sunday roast is a must really. We were served by Mark and Will, who were amazing and really looked after us! All of the staff were so lovely and genuinely friendly :) Would 100% recommend to anyone thinking about visiting. Super dog friendly too which is a plus!

Had a few drinks last night with a couple friends and the vibes were amazing. Will served us and was so friendly and welcoming, he brought us blankets as we were sat outside and overall the staff were amazing.

Loved everything about this place which we had dinner in last night. Amazing flower display outside, warm welcome, loads of choice of great and very reasonably priced food and drink - particularly liked the orange wine. I had the crab starter, husband had the scallop & beef cheek, both had the pie of the day for main. Great atmosphere, decor and ambience. And the service was right up there with the best I have ever experienced, so thank you to Mark and colleagues and good luck to Ben the chef in his marathon. I took my husband here for a birthday treat so I am not only writing this review because it was so good but also as a massive hint that I want him to take me there for mine. Still can’t get over the good value for an experience that great.

Perfect pie and mash followed by ginger cake and custard- if a Michelin starred chef cooked your school dinner!

The pies were delicious and you can tell they make it from fresh, as it takes so much longer to come out. It is slightly pricey for what it is, as you have to pay extra for any sides etc.

I've been meaning to leave this for a while, I wanted to thank Tom (pretty sure that was his name) as he helped me a few weeks back when I was choking on some food in the restaurant. He came running out and assisted me for ages, he then went a step further a took me and my wife to accident and emergency. Really appreciate this, I've been too embarrassed to come back since but this is the least I can do. Thanks again :) p.s the place and food is awesome 👍

Really homely fancy pub / restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. The staff were excellent, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was nice and I liked that the pie could be part of the Sunday roast, as it seemed a bit small as a standalone meal. We went for the Sunday menu deal at £32 for a main course and dessert

Mark is a true gentleman! Customer service was next level. Steak and Guinness pie was absolutely delicious and the peppercorn sauce and a chips was absolutely fantastic! Would highly recommend.

We were in a party of 14. We were in a private room upstairs that was as warm and cozy as a gentleman's club. We were looked after throughout the evening by a young lad called Will. He took orders and advised and made the evening a welcome and special time. It was the 90th birthday of one of our party and nothing was too much trouble. A great evening and I'll return for more of the same.

We had a great night. The food was outstanding and the service was top notch thanks to Will. Will be back soon!

Came here for my anniversary a few days ago, absolutely perfect. Food was great, I had the pie which was really nice. Service was some of the best I've seen, thanks to Hagar for making us feel very welcome. They had a live artist on but the volume in the dining area was just right so that we could still hear each other, wish other pubs and restaurants would follow this example. Will definitely be coming back.

I organised a dinner in the Sanctuary; one of the exceptional private dining areas at the Black Friar. The food was enjoyed by all, Will was a great host ensuring we always had enough water and wine on the table.

Can't comment on food as didn't eat here. Came for a pint to find there really is not a lot of seating available if you aren't eating. Looked nice but had to move on as needed to sit somewhere

We visited The Black Friars Pub on a Saturday evening for a family meal with my wife, children, and in-laws. The experience was excellent. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The service was particularly good, with Rob ensuring we were well looked after throughout the evening. He was especially great with our children, making them laugh, which added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. A great spot for a nice family meal, highly recommended!

We had a wonderful meal. The private room was perfect for our large group. The food was exceptional and the cocktails were divine! Will was a fabulous host for the evening. He could not have done more to accommodate us. Would highly recommend!

I loved this place so much I've searched it out to write a review... which I never do!! I live in London and unfortunately my time here was a little rushed as I had a train to catch but this is my new favourite place up north for sure! The service from Mark was amazing, he was so friendly and it was clear he knew exactly what was going on... everywhere! And the food was absolutely divine, I really recommend the ox cheek pie. Beautiful soft, tasty filling and homemade buttery pasty, I was gutted I couldn't finish it all as I was so full up! I'd also recommend their pinot noir, which was deliciously smooth. Thank you, I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area, hope I can spend a bit longer next time because it's such a cool place!

Had a wonderful business lunch today. Food was great, attentive staff both in the pub and the restaurant. Mark was so amazing and dealt with our dietaries so well. Glad to see a team with knowledge on vegan dietaries without having to ask. Can’t wait to come back.

Bombay chicken pie was awful, tasted like a microwave curry in a pie. Take this off the menu or improve it. Extremely overpriced as well.

A really lovely place but £20 for a pie is a bit much!

Visited it yesterday and had a fantastic experience! The staff were amazing - attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection with all the right trimmings. The beautiful decor added to the warm and inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Came in as a group of 4, made to feel very welcomed by our servers, Vitor and Holly. Good prompt service. The food was generally very good, one of the steaks slightly overcooked but was dealt with by the servers and rectified. Will definitely be back as the whole experience was very relaxing. Got put in a freezing tent outside, shown a very limited menu, paid £20 for a fairly basic pie and a few kale leaves. Beer selection was pretty limited too. If going to mediocre overpriced modern restaurants and getting conned js your thing, go for it. If you're looking for a genuinely good pub with good food and drink , I would avoid. Staff were friendly at least

Visited last night (1st March). We were early so had a drink at the bar whilst waiting for our table. The service at the bar was quick and efficient. Once seated the service was exceptional. Didn't get the waitress's name, but was from Waterford, she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu offering options and suggestions on what might suit us, injected with a bit of humour! We ordered a bottle of wine which come to the table whilst we was still choosing our food, which was delicious. My friend claimed the lamb rib was the best lamb he'd ever had. Definitely will be back soon.

after having our late valentine's meal was cancelled last minute, we managed to get a space here on the recommendation of a friend, and we were both very pleased we ended up coming!! ❤️ Lydia was an absolute delight and both the food and drinks were delicious, with great quality ingredients obviously involved. the atmosphere was also notably wonderful, especially for a Saturday evening, we felt welcomed and treated attentively. thanks so much guys, we'll definitely be back x

We had the luck to have our wedding reception at the pub and it was more than we could expect. The decoration was beautiful and everyone couldn’t believe how great the food was. Service was also outstanding, big thanks to Lidia who made sure everything was perfect.

Atmosphere was very peaceful and elegant, with pretty lighting and decorations. Our server Lydia was helpful and friendly. Food was exceptional, especially the hassleback potatoes. Happy Hour drinks were great.

Beautiful restaurant with the different seating areas, delicious food and lovely service, we asked our server if we could know the name of the hand soap and Mark graciously gave me and my friend a glass container of it each along with the name. Couldn’t recommend more, perfect for a nice catch up or a special meal for an occasion.

As far as gastropubs go, this is easily one of the best. The atmosphere is fantastic, but what truly sets this place apart is the exceptional customer service. My girlfriend and I visited on back-to-back days and were warmly welcomed both times. It's quickly becoming one of our favorites!

The venue has a lot of character and we had a fantastic meal. We had the Sunday roast, since their pie is so good they'd sold out by the time we got there for our late evening booking! Thank you, and we'll be back for those famous pies.

We absolutely love the starters but the aubergine main is awful. It's like it was made by a different chef, but I forgive them as the starts are amazing!

Cannot recommend the Black Friar enough. We visited before a concert at the AO Arena and were served by Mark. He convinced us to have some oysters, which were excellent, and we ordered two burgers. We also asked for a bottle of Malbec as it’s our ‘go to’ on an unfamiliar menu but Mark recommended a Côtes du Rhône as a better choice with the burgers. He was absolutely right and it was slightly cheaper! Definitely the first time we’ve had a wine pairing for a burger! This is definitely one of those times you think twice about a good review because you want the place to be your secret, but the has to be one of the best gastropubs we have been to!

Great food. Fab Sunday roast. Only downside was we hadn't actually had our coffees when we were asked to move to the bar area as the next people had arrived. We ordered straight away so it wasn't like we could have been any quicker eating or ordering.

Loved going here. First visit and not disappointed. We brought our little dog and she was made very welcome. Very pet friendly. Staff great and food was a delight.

Lovely evening spent for Valentine's. Set menu which we were aware of. Welcome complimentary fizz which was lovely, the staff were attentive and the food was delicious. We struggled with our desserts! The ambience was great. But do bear in mind it is in the city, so look ahead for parking. There is a public car park within 2 mins walk but is only small car park for 10 vehicles.

Firstly, don’t be confused into thinking this is a pub that a bunch of you can just walk in, take a table over and have a few beers, maybe order some food, maybe not, it’s highly unlikely. It’s more a restaurant hiding under the pub banner, and pre booking a table seems the norm. The pub restaurant is very nicely finished inside and it is lovely place to sit and eat. The food menu is slightly limited, we opted for the pie, which looking around seemed a popular choice. Pie itself, and it is literally itself, is £10, anything else, including gravy is extra, which is pushing the boundaries when coming under the banner of pub food. 0ne other side that was expensive was the sourdough bread. This beauty rolled in at £4, I’d expected a good chunk of loaf for that, the reality? one slice, ok, it was cut in half, so looked like two but no, it was £4 for one slice of sourdough. It apparently comes from a local bakery, not sure why that should make it so exclusive, cheaper if anything, but at £4/slice it should be helicoptered in! Drinks were good and come in around £6 a pint, which looking back was inline-ish with the rest of the day around Manchester. In saying that, and one point worth noting is, if you pay the added, but optional service charge, the drinks then start to get nearer the £7/pint, which is top-end pricing. Service was very good, Victor who looked after our table, was attentive etc and very efficient. So, all in all, I’d definitely go again, we had a very good experience and really enjoyed it, downside? I suppose was the fact we ended discussing the bill, service charge, added charity donation? etc on the walk back into town, rather than enthusing over the food says something, and it’s not really a pub!
