Wonderful location with lovely food, drinks and comfortable rooms. We were spending the weekend to celebrate a family member’s milestone birthday over a weekend. Travelling far within the uk and internationally. One let down was they were very short staffed for a busy time of the year with all of their 15 rooms used up and large number of walk-in guests. The place was jammed but the staff were run off their feet and perhaps couldn’t deliver the service they want to the standard expected. Great to see the place is busy and it could be that “it is hard to get staff due to lack of availability” but like a lot of small towns across the country, it is important to plan ahead and secure back up staff, however difficult it may be to get into agreement. Wishing The George and team all the best.

We had booked an overnight stay at the George Townhouse, as it was convenient for a wedding that we were attending locally. We were concerned that as we would be arriving at the end of the reception (after 11pm) that this would be a problem, as we are not local and did not know the area. We need not have been worried. As advised, we arrived before the wedding and were allowed to check in early into a most charming room and to leave our luggage there, which was such a help. A special mention must go to the delightful Poppy, who was so helpful and explained everything including late night access and parking in great detail - very many thanks! All in all an excellent stay and if we are in the area again, we know where to go!

We arrived on a Thursday at about 1.45pm for lunch for 2 - we hadn't booked. We waited at the restaurant reception area for 5 minutes without being attended to although only a couple of those tables were occupied. We then went to the bar where we waited another 5 minutes or so and finally asked if we should seat ourselves. We were told to go back to the restaurant reception where we'd be seated shortly. We waited another 5 minutes or so and were then ignored by the waitress who, when she finally appeared, went to clear another diner's table rather than seat us. Having waited 15 minutes without being seated we decided to leave. When indicating the reason for leaving we were told that there were only 2 staff on service at that time and they were very busy, despite the restaurant and bar area being far from full with many tables unoccupied. We indicated that this was not our fault and were told that it wasn't their fault either.....an extremely rude reply to a potential customer. There appear to be 2 problems - one with under-staffing, and one with staff on duty being unable to deal with customers in the correct manner. It would be normal to apologise for poor service and to try to put it right rather than moan about issues that are not the customer's fault or problem. If you can't provide adequate staffing then you're not just cutting costs, but also customers. We both live in the area, will not return to The George and will recommend to friends that they don't either. Well done to staff and management.

We recently stayed at The George Townhouse for 2 nights and it was amazing. We had a superior room which was very big, clean and comfy. Unfortunately the TV was not working but the staff who are a credit to the hotel was quick to try and rectify and we were offered a complimentary solution. The staff were amazing (especially the young brunette) they were friendly, helpful and polite. The hotel overall is a great cotswold location for visitors, it's a lovely town and we would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Appalling customer service. Stayed here with my husband last week having booked a night away for my birthday with a voucher. Despite having a booking confirmation and confirmation that we had nothing left to pay, we were told the voucher wasn't accepted and the money we paid for the booking meant nothing. We were allowed to stay if we paid again, on the proviso that we'd be refunded. We took up this offer as we had travelled a long way Manager was not around to talk to us the next day and we've yet to receive a call back about our refund. We've tried to call the pub and left a message, but still had no reply. In the end, we paid a high amount to stay in a very small room and be treated like we're an inconvenience despite the fact the whole situation has been very stressful for us and is still unresolved. Will not be returning and would not recommend this as somewhere nice to stay.

Had the set menu today 3 courses £17.95 was delicious with great service. Only thing missing was my friend had the lamb off the main menu and no mint sauce was available. I think with 2 Co-ops just across the road this would be an easy fix to go and buy some! Also there is a loo roll holder missing in the Ladies middle stall which is annoying.

This restaurant was recommended by the host of the place we were staying so we had good hopes for a great dining experience. The place wasn’t busy but it took a little while to be offered a table and then 10 mins before anyone came near enough to order. We opted for the lamb and the beer battered haddock. My partner was pleased with her dish but my lamb dish was small and served on a ‘slab’ of potato with just sufficient red wine jus. Although meal was ok i don’t feel it justified the price but hey it’s the Cotswolds! My real gripe was the service charge that was only mentioned when I was given the bill. I have no problem with rewarding service when it’s deserved but when restaurants just appear to add a percentage without giving customers notice it’s not on.

Based on recommendations and posted reviews we decided to have Sunday lunch. Whilst the staff were friendly enough they all lacked basic experience of service on how to address and serve. The food was barely warm for which we received no apology when explained. The food was reheated which then made the beef and chicken over cooked. The portion sizes were awful, 2 small roast potatoes that were boiled and shown the oven and the veg was indescribable. The Yorkshire pudding was the size of a regular tomato. Based on all this we chose wisely not to proceed with a desert and instead pop into the co-op opposite and chose something to then take home. Shall unfortunately never return to indeed pass on any good recommendations to friends.

Ok, so we’d gone along having read other reviews and had concluded that this was our best bet for decent food on a Tuesday night. We were really disappointed to be honest. The service was great, our waiter was a lovely lad, he was friendly, welcoming and couldn’t have done anything more for us, I want to make that very clear. The let down was the food. It was average at best, to be honest it was below par. I will admit that we didn’t complain or inform our waiter of our displeasure (he asked if we had enjoyed our meal and we said yes because we didn’t want any money off or replacements etc we just wanted to pay and leave). We had ordered the lamb and the moules frites. The lamb was undercooked and the moules were tiny, overcooked and in a tasteless sauce. It was edible, we didn’t want our money back or anything, but I felt that our observations needed to be made for no other reasons than to give The George Townhouse opportunity to improve. I am not a reviewer that wants to ruin an establishments reputation, or gain by leaving a negative review. Genuinely the service was great, the food just needs to be better and had we had time to point this out in person we would have.

Lovely place and nice staff, however it was a bit of a disheartening discovery that their lovely cocktail menu is practically impossible to order from! Some friends and I went in for some pre dinner cocktails and were met with “sorry we don’t have the ingredients to make that right now” for the majority of the menu. Maybe we caught them at the wrong time, very excited to go back and try those cocktails soon!

The service was not very good but the food was terrible. My friend and I ordered fish and chips when it arrived the fish was clearly overcooked. I didn’t want to say anything as my friend had invited me but when I cut into the fish it shot off the plate onto the floor I was very embarrassed. I waited for a sign of a member of staff to tell them that it was inedible but in the end I had to go to the bar. The staff member was apologetic and said would replace my friend had to carry on eating alone. The staff member came back with a properly cooked piece of fish on a plate which she slid onto my plate with the remains of the overcooked pieces of fish. I think some staff training is needed and the chef replaced the meal should never have left the kitchen.

We had a family trip (6 rooms), staying for 2 nights at The George Townhouse at the beginning of March 2024. Hotel is approximately 20 minutes to Stratford upon Avon. All the rooms were decorated nicely, clean and the most comfy beds ever. Bathrooms were clean. Shower was great with nice toiletries and proper sized towels. Breakfast in the hotel was really tasty – small buffet selection and hot food to order. Dinner similarly was delicious and generous portions. Good selection of drinks. Service was really friendly from all team members but a special shout-out must go to Jordan Williams. Nothing was too much trouble, he made sure that we all had everything we wanted and made everyone feel really welcome. The only thing that would have made our stay even better would be to have some biscuits in the room to go with the tea and coffee. Let me start by saying that I did a review shortly after my visit but for some reason it was not received by tripadvisor. I booked for 22 guests for a Sunday lunch for my birthday. This was done weeks in advance as was the guests requirements for the meal. I was originally shown the private dining room and was told this would be set up in advance. However when we arrived the private room was not set up in any shape or form. The table was not set with anything, no cutlery, glasses, just nothing. When I asked what was happening I was told they were short of staff. Long story cut short, eventually the table was set but I had to ask for glasses for both water and the wine I had ordered also salt, pepper and serving spoons were absent. Apart from a young lad spilling a coke over my granddaughters shoulder the food and drink was very good, (as it should have been as I spent over £900 for the event) I did complain at the time to the young lad when I paid but to no avail. My guests had traveled many miles to join me for my birthday and I was more than annoyed with the outcome. whilst I admit the food was very good that was the only plus side I am a local resident to the George and have mentioned this to a number of friends, beware if you book for a large number of guests at this premises

Four of us had dinner this week at the George which ticks many dining and hospitality boxes. There is an immediate welcoming ambience on arrival, the tables are well spaced, and the staff are friendly, helpful and professional. There is an adequate but not huge...

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, which was beautifully presented and delicious. Having returned to England from living in France it was a great joy to find a varied menu with lovely freshly prepared food. Too many pubs have very standard and dull menus. The staff...

We visited the George Townhouse last weekend and the room was fine. The restaurant however for the money was poor. We were firstly moved table when sat and served with drinks which was annoying, and then service was rushed and it felt like customer service...

Spent one night at The George Townhouse when visiting the Cotswolds Distillery. On arrival we were offered a room upgrade to a bay-window room overlooking the High Street. It was comfortable room and much quieter than we expected considering its position. We had a delicious...

Stopped by here for a Sunday roast as we were staying in the local area. We mainly chose The George as they seemed to be the only place offering a Sunday roast quite late on in the day. We were not disappointed as the food...

It’s so hard to choose which of the amazing selection of cakes to have. Always busy, but always they find us a space. Definitely recommend a visit. Called in on Saturday, with friends, busy, but staff were working really hard to keep the wait time down to an absolute minimum. The cake counter goes on for ever, you will struggle to choose. Great coffee too. We were there near the end of the day, still lots of choice. When we were leaving, staff were selling left overs from the front of the cafe at a reduced take away price, which was going down really well to the busy Christmas market visitors. Atmosphere in Stratford on Saturday was great, busy, festive and a great day out. Parking was a tad difficult, but once parked, we had a great day.

The atmosphere here at Christmas time is amazing. I love the Christmas trees next to beautiful Victorian decorations, completed with the fireplace in the centre of the main room. Food is always delicious. The staff is really friendly. Thank you for a lovely Christmas dinner.

Stayed in the village for a couple of nights this is the local pub. Local warm feeling inside in the bar area with nice selection of beers and ale. The pub has a Chinese inside which also has really good food at really reasonable price and the pub has an area where you can sit in and eat. All the locals were friendly.
