Saturday 11 January 20, My friend and I came here for a late lunch after a shop till you drop shopping spree in Solihull. We arrived and found a nice table in a corner which could accommodation us and all our bags of shopping. We looked at the menu which was on the table and made our selection. I went to the bar to order our drinks and food. My friend and I ordered egg mayonnaise sandwiches on brown bread We also ordered a pot of tea and a latte coffee for myself. The drinks arrived very quickly and the food when it arrived was nicely presented and accompanied with rocket salad, coleslaw and lovely piping hot chips, which were delicious. This was a nice place to come and have a late lunch in a nice relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend coming here after a day of shopping.

This was the first time we ie husband +self..had lunch at The George..we booked via Groupon for £24 for 3-course Sunday lunch for 2.. We arrived to a busy restaurant..good atmosphere...seated straight away... Thought going to be a carvery..but refurbishing in that area so lunch to be plated. Both ordered prawn cocktail..served in a dish?? far too much mayonnaise masked the few prawns offered...I ordered beef..asked med-rare..told no prob..served well-done..sent back..came back the same..husband gammon no problems..veg ok..dessert acceptable.. Yes disappointed as had heard good reports ....not sure if will try again in future..as so many restaurants offering Sunday lunch in Solihull.. Prehaps reputation goes before realty..😏

Enjoyed an excellent Sunday 3 course lunch in the restaurant. Although the decor is very tired and rather shabby the restaurant area is clean and presentable. The meal was delicious and all members of the dining staff (morning staff) provided excellent service.....they were most attentive, polite and pleasant throughout our visit. We will most certainly return and recommend to others. Maybe a lick of paint on the walls etc and a clean carpet would attract more customers!

First may I say we visited here today with a pre booked Groupon voucher. We thought the cost was very reasonable £24 for a three course lunch with a glass of wine, well it would of been had the main meal been edible!! The beef looked good but it was as tough as old boots and impossible to cut and the veg wasn’t cooked apart from the couple of slices of courgette the cauliflower, broccoli and carrots were very, very al dente.Plus we ate our main course with our starter plates still on the table and were cleared away with the main course plates.Such a disappointment however my starter was ok apart from the stale toasted bread the mushrooms were on my husbands smoked salmon wasn’t as described and was barely a couple of mouthfuls, onto the desserts they were the only good thing we we had.It was cold in the restaurant I sat with a big coat on for most of the meal and in all honesty we couldn’t wait to get out!!So as the title of my review says NEVER AGAIn

Very disappointed with our visit. We had a family meal here on Saturday night and we expected better. The food was variable with some of the party enjoying it and others not but the service and attentive to detail was consistently poor. It got embarrassing the amount of times that we had to call over one of the serving staff for little things. I always think poor attitude in servers relates to poor management of the restaurant and for us the poor rating is based on ‘death by 1000 cuts’. Examples of the issues; - 1 of the party had steak done medium - it came at most rare and had to be sent back. When the plate returned the onion rings had gone. - 3 of the party had the curry off the menu that comes with mango chutney or doesn’t in our case. The servers were doing a great job of avoiding our eyes but we eventually got someone’s attention and pointed out that none had arrived. About 5 minutes later one portion arrived and we had to point out that 2 others also wanted it. The 2/3rd portions arrived after we’d finished. - 1 of the party had fish and chips and asked for thin french fries as she doesn’t like fat chips. When the meal came it was with fat chips - when questioned the server said she had been told they don’t do thinner fries which isn’t a particular problem but please tell us when we order as we can then decide what to have. - 1 of the group asked for some brown sauce and it came but was never used because the bottle was warm/hot on the bottom like it had been on top of a hot plate or similar. - not sure whether this is related but my wife who had a curry is not well this morning and her stomach is churning. To balance this, the pie of the day was well presented and tasted nice and one of the group enjoyed the curry ( I haven’t yet seen him today to check his stomach is ok though). Overall, the restaurant was sloppy. We had to prompt for a drink when we arrived, prompt to order etc. We saw others having to do the same. There was a group of 3 or 4 servers who congregated at the front desk chatting rather than serving. It’s unlikely to get a 2nd chance with us given the wealth of other options in Solihull.

My wife and I went last Sunday for lunch using a Groupon for a 3 course lunch plus a glass of wine each at a cost of around £21.00. Starters and deserts were served at the table and the carvery, we both had beef and yorkshire pudding, were carved by the Chef. The quality of the food was outstanding, together with the excellent service provided by the staff. Car parking using vehicle registration in reception was free as we were using the facilities. The view of our table overlooking the bowling green was very tranquil. I would recommend this Sunday lunch to anyone.

This is the second time I have visited the George both times family meals both times a huge disappointment. This restaurant does not cater for well for vegetarians or anybody on a restricted diet such as gluten free. With the variety of restaurants in the vicinity it is a wonder anyone still comes to this dated restaurant.

It was a good place to meet my sister-in-law, neither of us living nearby. We had a pot of tea when we arrived. It was a small pot giving the three of us barely one cup each - but it was very cheap, and they did top it up with hot water when asked. We decided to have dinner there as we had limited time. The restaurant didn't open until 6pm, but we needed to be finished by 6.30. The staff were very helpful and offered to open the restaurant early to suit us. The food was lovely and the service was excellent.

Was stopping at the Ramada and called in here for a spot of lunch. Had to ask for a menu as there weren't any food menu's on the tables. Ordered a prawn marie rose wrap and coke. I stayed at the Ramada on business and visited the restaurant in the evening. I was greeted by the host and sat at the table in an empty restaurant (not complaining) I placed my order with Fernando who was very friendly but clearly lacked experience in the restaurant. Whilst he was busy serving 4 tables, a stream off staff kept coming through the restaurant laughing and joking. When my food finally arrived it was cold and when I asked for sauce I was given sachets? I can't remember the last time I had a sit down meal as such and was offered sachets (this place isn't a cafe). On the whole I left dissatisfied with my experience but bravo to Fernando but the restaurant really needs to consider providing proper training to their staff!

I was so disappointed as i had bought vouchers for my friends so we could have an afternoon tea and a shopping trip to Solihull. I was embarrassed at how awful it was. We were firstly asked about whether we wanted teas. We asked about the "Specialty teas" that were mentioned and the waitress obviously didnt know what they were and said "well what do you want? we have english breakfast" We knew we were off to a bad start. The tea was in bags even though it stated loose leaf. We did get a top up but i think the same bags were used. The sandwiches were awful. Very flat and freezing cold as obviously made earlier and kept in ether fridge. The egg ones tasted funny and there was hardly any filling on any. I had rang before to say we had 2 vegetarians but that hadn't been taken in to account. I had to request some separate sandwiches on another plate for the 2 vegetarians. After about 20 minutes 7 small finger sandwiches came that were equally awful. There were marshmallows for dipping (again not vegetarian) they were rock hard. The scones arrived and there were 6 of us and 7 scones came. Not warm as was stated. All in all, we came away hungry and disappointed. There service was unfriendly and awful and i was gutted that i had paid £14 for what amounted to a scone and clotted cream. Everything else was practically inedible.

What has happened to The Ramada George! After a nerve wracking walk over uneven wrinkled carpet with two older relatives we were escorted to our table. The paint work was coming off the dado rail and the general atmosphere lacked any of the happy Christmas cheer experienced in previous visits. The bread rolls were cold and sitting next to main plates with no choice of white or brown - just what you were given. Starters were tomato soup, melon or chicken pate. All a far cry from salmon in beetroot with pickled cucumber and lemon crème fresh lovingly prepared in previous visits, To the main - poorly cooked vegetables, only roast potatoes, no creamed or boiled. Oily Yorkshire puddings and stodgy stuffing. The deserts offered cold mini mince pies, slithers of chocolate cake, what looked like diced Mr Kipling iced fruit cake and a sponge stack that was so dry I could not eat it. Where was the trifle the home made delights of previous years the hot filter coffee and warm full sized home made mince pies? Clearly quality has been sacrificed on the alter of economy, yet it all cost more money this year than before. I have been a regular customer at the George but this will sadly be my last visit. The décor really needs updating and the food needs to be properly prepared, fresh and not giving the appearance of coming from Iceland party pack. Another change was that the drinks bill was always presented at the end of the meal, this time as I requested my usual tab my credit card was taken from me and kept until we had finished our meal and were ready to go, This made me feel very uncomfortable and meant that I had find a cash tip to give to the waitress. We were regularly asked if we enjoyed our meal and were honest to say we had not the response was that a new chef had been employed and all the waiting staff were new? I and my guests will not be returning to the George again which is a real sadness as we have be going for years, but it really is time for a change.

Let me first of all confess that afternoon tea is not my favourite meal since it tends to be all carbohydrate - too much wheat and too much sugar, both of which I try to avoid, although, having said that, I do like cake. So I was hoping that the Ramada might be true to its word when it told me it could adapt the tea for specific diets. Mine is not a fad - I am recovering from cancer, so it's important to me to eat well, though the occasional treat is OK. Sadly, there was really very little choice - I was offered gluten-free bread or wheat bread for the sandwiches (all of which, sliced out of a packet). And we agreed to leave out the ham sandwiches. And that was the full extent of the adjustment for specific diets.

They bring the scones once the sandwiches are finished so they come fresh and warm with big pots of jam and cream. You also get macaroons, marshmallows and strawberries (with a choc smile and a cream hat!) for dipping in the chocolate bowl and as it's December mini mince pies and xmas cake slices. A very generous serving of roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, new potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, Carrots, sprouts and lashings of gravy was our choice for the main. My husband headed for the chocolate and chilli ganache, mother hit on the trifle and my neighbour and I had the lime cheesecake and raspberries for desert. Coffees arrived with the yummiest warmed mince pies I have ever tasted. All this for just £24.00 per head. 7 of us went for afternoon tea (and prosecco!) for my mum's hen party today. We had a really lovely afternoon with a great selection of (and far too much!) food and a great atmosphere. Special thanks to Liz, our server, who really looked after us and was such a lovely and friendly lady!

Booked afternoon tea for two, but we were 3, so booked a mini tea also,18.00 for two, 10 pound for one.ok, sorted special treat for my mom and dad.got there, 6 people in the restraunt, not busy all the tables looked lovely! Great.gave my name and what I had booked, oh your table is not ready can you wait in the lounge???? Ok! 20 mins later, getting bit irate now, but thinking when we get to the table the tea will come straight away.no, after being seated, another 20 mins before we were served, what I can only describe as kids soldier sandwiches! I'm not stupid I know they are meant to be delicate tea treats but they had so little on them that all you could taste was butter. No tea for one either??? Where is the rest of the food I asked, oh the scones come after the sand.ok but I ordered another portion, oh sorry I will get them made now! Getting a little angry now! It's not hard and it's not busy, by now we are the only people there.yes you guessed it 20 mins s later a few more crusts arrived.the staff were lovely, scones were not worth the next wait! And 2 and half hrs later I walked out feeling exhausted and confused, exactly what?? I had just paid for.sorry but it's not what I expected from the other reviews. And cucumber filling, ham, and egg are not my idea of a treat.dissapointed!!!

We had a lovely meal there one Sunday evening, and decided to go back, but went on spec a week last Sunday arriving at 2:20pm there were plenty of diners still eating and tables available but were told that they couldn’t accommodate us, bearing in mind that they served until 3pm. During the 10 minutes we were there, my partner laid his arm on the desk and the waitress who we were talking to caressed it. We looked at each other bemused but said nothing, we then left disappointed and decided to book for Easter Sunday taking the reservation offered at 2:30. We were also offered 2:45!

Went to the George for Sunday lunch to celebrate our sons 21st as a group of 14. We were greeted by Liz who was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. In fact all the staff were friendly and attentive but Liz went the extra mile. Thoroughly enjoyed the occasion - food was great and the layout and, presentation of the table was spot on.

Just returned from dinner at this lovely old hotel celebrating with a special Leap Day dinner for my mother's "21st" birthday. The welcome we received on arrival was warm and set the tone for the evening. My partner and I opted for choices from the Indian menu and a request for an off-menu salmon fillet main course for Mom was willingly met. Our food was served swiftly and was piping hot and delicious. We were particularly impressed with our curries and can't wait to sample them again in the new Jiyaan restaurant. We had the pleasure of meeting the chef Deepak Kumar and have nothing but praise for him and indeed for all the staff, with a particular mention for Liz and Anita, without whom the hotel would simply not be the same! Thank you so much for giving us a night to remember and for making such a fuss of Mom. She said she couldn't have been looked after better if she had been the Queen! We look forward to our next visit. Very well done. X

On Sunday 21st February 2016 we held my Fathers 80th birthday celebration with family and friends in the Butler Room which is in the George restaurant. When we arrived we were not disappointed as 'Liz' was already there to greet us and had the room set up to 5 star standard! Guests from Germany and our close friends hotel all enjoyed a beautiful meal with such friendly staff serving, in elegant traditional surroundings, there was nothing more we could have asked for, ...and I am sure we will be back!

Went for afternoon meal. Restaurant was quiet but it was mid-week. Selected from a small but robust menu of British fare. All the dishes sounded great. Food we had was delicious. I opted for the lamb with seasonal vegetables and it had a deep tasting flavoursome sauce. My wife ordered a chicken and sausage dish which was just as good. The service was spot on. The venue caters for couples, small and large groups. Top find .

Enjoyable evening. 5 or so courses, well prepared considering the number of customers. Good entertainment (Disco , who kept the floor full). Only setback was that our Vegetarian friend were served a cheese pastry with "Gravy". This was resolved however and everyone enjoyed seeing 2016.

Struggling to find parking I left my car in the George Car park and we decided to have lunch in the Restaurant. Aaron led us to our table and the place was empty so we were wary of what to expect but we got such a surprise to see the Menu We chose the Three Course Lunch, the wife had soup and I settled for Salmon,Crab and Crayfish Tian which was absolutely delicious. For Main Course we both had the Rump Steak finishing our Lunch with Tiramasu and Apple Tart Tatin, we were so amazed at the quality meal we had just eaten . Aaron asked us if we had enjoyed ourselves and that we wouldn't have to pay for the car park as this was include in the price.

Quite dreadful experience. Food and service poor. No one on front desk on arrival, coat stand collapsed when hanging coat, and food was worse than expected. I chose the signature dishes for both the starter and main course and both were awful. The belly of pork was undercooked and in edible. The mash potatoes lumpy. Only the Savoy cabbage was any good and there really was not enough of this. My guest also found his duck to be unpleasant. The only saving grace was that the restaurant supervisor refunded the price of two main courses off the bill. I would much rather have enjoyed my lunch with friends from school that I had not seen in 30 years!

I have visited The George many times whilst out shopping in Solihull. It is a nice place to stop for a light lunch and drink. The menu in the bar isn't huge but it offers light bites and meals. I have always had lovely, hot food here. The tea here is very nice. There do offer afternoon tea here too, I have not had afternoon tea here but seen a lot of people having them, They look very tasty and excellent value for money. This is a quite relaxing place, there are tv's on in here but the volume is not intrusive. Clientèle is mainly middle aged people, couples and there seems to be a lot of family gatherings in here too.

Booked a Monday night meal for myself and my husband as I was working late in Solihull. What a treat for a weekday night. Liz is an absolutely brilliant host and we were made to feel very welcome and looked after. She's a proper gem. Both of us had the delicious monkfish main from the al la carte menu and husband had the tarte tatin for dessert which he really enjoyed. Love!y atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Would visit again and recommended.

Took afternoon tea at the George as a birthday treat and what a treat it was! Pot of tea, freshly made tasty sandwiches, fresh baked scones with Jam and cream are what you would expect but what we got was so much more! Miniature macaroons, marshmallows, fresh strawberries with dipping chocolate sauce, and a pot of chocolate truffles! All for the amazing value of £18 for two people.Add to that fantastic attentive service from Liz our waitress. One of the best afternoon teas we have had! Well recommended!

Arrived here for a late lunch. The waitress had just come on duty and, I suppose because there was no-one else to serve, she decided to give us her full attention! She was very welcoming, but we didn't want to be her best friend! Her comments about the men playing bowls outside in the rain were inappropriate; she even opened the door to shout a comment at them at one point, even though it let in cold air. We ordered drinks but, as these came from the bar, they took a while to arrive. I was warned that the scallops in the Coquilles St Jacques were small, but I think I detected one very tiny one, a tiny bit of white fish and one prawn under all the cheesy mash. When I ordered the lamb main course, I asked if there was any potato with it and, as I was told there wasn't, I ordered extra. However it came with a lovely piece of bubble and squeak, so I needn't have bothered. The lamb was pink and tasty, and the chips were crispy and brown. As we left, the waitress insisted on kissing the men. This hotel tries to be one of the more up-market in Solihull, but needs to train its staff better then this. The food was OK but quite expensive for a lunch. Maybe the bar snacks would have been a better option.

The George hotel is located opposite the spired old church, which shows how old it is. Inside it retains many of its old features and partially surrounds a beautiful bowling green. The combination of old features and the green define the hotel and the modern additions can almost be forgotten. The restaurant has a main open area and a delightful alcove area which seats up to 16 people and can be curtained off. The menu is not too large (which tends to mean to me that the food has been pre-prepared) and the food is good without being outstanding. Good service and reasonable prices.

The first night we stayed here, things seemed quiet so we went out to cafe rouge 100 meters away. Big mistake. Poor prix fixe and tried to overcharge us massively, which took a bit of sorting out. Tonight I felt like a curry, so nipped out, but the local indian was packed. So ended up in the george for lack of anywhere else. Well wow, had I got my priorities wrong. This place does absolutely fabulous bar food. My wife had great fish and chips (curious mashed up peas, but tasted fine). I had fabulous indian food in the shape of the platter. Meat tasted of lovely marinade, everything was fresh and superbly cooked, and I have just taken away enough for breakfast tomorrow. The only thing I might comment on is that a yoghourt based dip as well as the mango chutney would have been ideal. So based on my experience, choose to eat here first ! Nice atmosphere too, genuinely old beams in the bar.

Our experience at 'The George' was overall disappointing. We ordered 2 steaks from the bar menu, directly showing it from the menu. When the bill came we found out that we were actually charged for the 'steak' from the restaurant menu (10£ each more expensive). When we asked for an explanation we were told we received the more expensive steak due to a mistake of the waiter, who recognised his error and excused himself. We decided to pay the amount as it was, but we were really annoyed by the fact that the manager, having being told about the incident, did not even apologise for the inconvenience. Awful customer service!

Been going to the Manor House cafe for a long time but was very disappointed with today’s visit (06/11/2024). Whilst the food is still good they have brought in a new policy with the tea they serve. Instead of getting a pot of tea you now get a tea bag and a pot of hot water. Fair enough you might think. However when I asked why they were doing this, the answer was ‘people ask for more hot water and are therefore getting an extra cup of tea for free’. How petty and how bad for business. £1.95 is not cheap for one tea bag and a little milk. The staff should not refuse extra hot water (after all, they can’t refuse a glass of tap water) or begrudge an extra ‘free’ cup of tea to customers who are also spending a decent amount on food. I was not alone in my thoughts, several other people were making the same comments. Also, new cafes and coffee shops are opening all the time in Solihull so there is a lot more choice. The Manor House should not be alienating customers like this or they might find they will go elsewhere.
