The George Pub in City of London, Westminster

Came here for a birthday meal and sat downstairs. It was outstanding from start to finish - the food, the beer, and the service was exceptional. We had a lovely young man serve us who really made our day. Places like these are gems - the service wasn't too much or too little. Can't wait to come back again.

Great pub on the canal in Camden, as all the Wetherspoons really nice food and great selection. Easy to use app when ordering too.

Great food and great service. We couldn't finish our meal and a member of staff kindly offered us a box and bag to take our leftover food home. Really relaxed atmosphere and would visit again.

My group did enjoy our lunch overall at this pub today and the servers were generally friendly and helpful. However, I was absolutely appalled to have the server who took my order come back over after I had already started eating to tell me there was in fact butter in part of my dish (the mushy peas) despite that I had been abundantly clear when I placed the order that I have an allergy to dairy. When I asked how on earth this had happened, he responded that he thought it was just an intolerance. I cannot explain how angry it makes me that this venue could be putting people’s lives at risk like that and in any case, whether an allergy or “just” an intolerance, the kitchen should always be notified and should never have let a plate with any dairy go out. While I am grateful that my meal was not charged for, I now have a waiting game to see if I have a full reaction (over and above the minor reaction I had at the time) to the thankfully only tiny amount I ate as my symptoms are usually slightly delayed onset. Not taking allergies seriously can kill people and this venue needs to be FAR more careful. As a side note, I would add that sadly the fish and chips was a bit flavourless although it may of course be better with the addition of the mushy peas. Update: I have now spoken to the manager Conor who provided a genuine apology and assured me that as soon as my feedback was received, the server responsible for the oversight was spoken to and additional meetings took place with all staff regarding dealing with allergies. I feel reassured that The George has taken the incident seriously and has procedures in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I have therefore added a star for the way this has been handled after the event - thank you.

Awesome place with the best old fashioned in the Eastern Hemisphere! Food however is not eligible for people with allergies like myself, and they do not make exceptions. This is what the waiter says after he spoke to the kitchen. So take note!

Had a lovely Sunday roast here the other week! From the atmosphere to the incredible service, we had an amazing experience at The George! Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a small and cosy place to eat a Sunday roast — or grab a pint — in the heart of London!

Great dining experience. Special shout out to Vanessa, Pablo and Kitty who, in their own ways, made our lunch special and gave us great recommendations for food and drinks! Pablo was very attentive to my allergy needs so thank you!!!

They pull an excellent Guinness, sling delicious cocktails and serve some magical food. What a wonderful reprieve from the horrors of Oxford Street.

I’m honestly confused as to how this place gets such a high recommendation so I felt as though I should write a review. Service was terrible. Took 45 minutes for a roast to come out. Roast was very bland. Had a sharing roast between two. Chicken was very average. Beef was good but lamb was very bland. Vegetables very average. No frills, no seasoning. Yorkshire pudding was massive and only two very small pots of gravy provided. Asked for more gravy and was charged £4 😂. Also charged for tap water!? Got seated in the bar area on very small tables. Very uncomfortable and when eating, hunched over on a small bar stool with no room on the table, I am shocked when paying £36 for a roast dinner that this is the atmosphere, food and service provided. Was only asked if we wanted a drink at the start and empty glasses throughout the rest of the sitting. In all honesty, I wouldn’t believe the hype and I’d save your money! Finally the sticky toffee pudding was nice but clotted cream on top is such a strange combo and added 0 to the dish. I never write negative reviews but this was one time we felt something should be said.

We just had drinks but managed to find a table despite the rugby being on and it was super busy…..Very friendly place! We chatted to the people on both adjacent tables. Very noisy; great atmosphere. Guinness on tap. Particularly liked the gold plated toilet brush!

We only went for a few drinks. We entered the pub, heard the live music and for a moment thought we might not be able to hear ourselves talk. But, who cares?!?!? We ended up staying, dancing, singing with the crowd! Amazing atmosphere ✨ definitely for those who love a good English pub and some good Dolly Parton, Beatles and hey, T.Swift too😍

I love this pub. Have been here for a roast on a Sunday which was incredible! But also on a Saturday night to listen to live music. Always a welcoming atmosphere and a lively vibe. One of my fav pubs.

Wife and I popped in last Sunday on for Sunday lunch and we were both very impressed. The Rarebit and Scotch Egg were amazing, and we had the sharing roast (£36pp was amazing value!) which was a great way to try a bit of each offering. Not usually a huge fan of roast chicken, but it tasted amazing. Finished with an Irish Coffee - didn't want to leave. Only slight negative is the tables downstairs are quite small, but I understand they are being replaced. Will definitely go back again.

We had the fish and chips which was amazing! The sticky toffee pudding was out of this world! Which I will dream about till the end of time! The atmosphere is also super nice!

If you’re just looking for a drink, this is a nice Irish pub in the heart of an otherwise fast soulless part of London. If you’re looking for a Sunday roast I’d avoid. This place had been recommended to me and myself and my partner were really excited. We opted for the meat sharing platter of Sunday roast - £36pp with beef chicken and lamb. It consisted of one small slice of beef each, a small piece of chicken with bones each and two fatty cuts of lamb. It was a pretty underwhelming amount of meat overall - less than you would’ve had if you’d just had one portion of meat, considering the bones and cuts, and was overall disappointing. I’ve looked at pics of other people’s platters and it seems you often get more- I wish we had been told that it was maybe late in the day with little left to go around. Veg was bland. Potatoes were ok. The service really let us down though. When we booked in the woman was lovely and all our interactions across the meal were positive, but the person who came to take our payment was so rude. There was some confusion over an extra order of gravy we had placed over the meal. You get two different types, and we asked for more of the one we liked. She brought the wrong one, despite us making clear which one was right. Anyway, it was so late in the meal we never touched and just went without. On payment we were expected to pay an extra £3.50 for this gravy. £3.50 is obviously not a bank breaker, but when your meal total is £66 for an average fare, without the included 14% gratuity anyway, it feels a bit ridiculous. We asked her to remove it, mostly because it was not the gravy we ordered and we didn’t eat it. She kicked up a huge fuss and started arguing with me. It was a really strange and uncalled for reaction to something that was a) pretty small b) her mistake and c) a pretty ridiculous cost which I was never made aware of when ordering. Without that last interaction I think we would’ve left thinking ‘yeah, it’s okay for a roast in soho. I’ll def come back for a drink’, but that whole situation left a bitter taste in our mouths sadly.

Very enjoyable lunch. Booked here for a meeting/ catch up with a colleague and had a very good experience. Food was great and meant quite varied for all tastes. Service was excellent. The right level of being attentive and friendly. Hard to get right! Highly recommend pub.

Food was delicious, great atmosphere in a quieter section away from the madness of Oxford Circus. Bit pricey but expected for this area.

Busy pub but we ate in the restaurant dining part upstairs. Service was good and food was tasty. Kids fish and chips was a decent size. The scotch egg was was delicious. Curry and onion bhaji starter had a kick to it. The tea and coffee was the only let down as these were luke warm. Worked out £60 each with alcoholic drinks. Single toilet upstairs in the restaurant otherwise other toilets are in basement level but we're clean.

We had the most enjoyable experience at The George for Sunday Roast. We felt beyond looked after by the wonderful staff who did the very most for us. The vegetarian roast option was delicious. Can't wait to go back!

I must admit in my 16 years living in London I have enjoyed more than my fair share of roasts. Many of these have been below average compared with what I would cook at home, and sadly only a handful have been great. It is with this history in mind that I must proclaim that the roast at The George is the best roast I have had in any pub or restaurant. Truly top notch meat and vegetables, huge and delicious Yorkshire pudding and epic starters. Every single dish was beautifully prepared. The service and atmosphere was second to none. Huge thanks to Mark and his lovely team. Will be back soon!

The best roast potatoes I have ever tasted. I cannot fault the food AT ALL, everything was DELICIOUS. The staff were wonderful too, it was brilliant all round.

I only ever bother reviewing places when I’ve absolutely LOVED the food or hated it… And this place was AMAZING! Best roast I’ve had in London. Get the sharing board - lamb falling off bone, juicy chicken, pink beef, so many sauces and sides and insane roasties. World’s biggest Yorkshire pudding! And Mark the Irish guy who owns it was a legend so we tried the Guinness and as an Irish girl it was the best I’ve had in London so far. Also the starters / croquettes were amaaaazing. Really unassuming place and we were so pleasantly surprised… thank you to the team. And don’t hesitate… GO!

Had a really great time. Sunday lunch was buzzy and atmospheric! Friendly service and great drinks , roast beef, and cocktails. Only slight improvement could be hotter food, but ingredients and cooking made up for it.

Solid fish and chips with good mushy peas. Nice bitter on tap. Good service and nice ambiance. The fish portion was large, chips rather small.

My only complaint is we didn't have more time in London to spend here. From the time we stepped in the door as a couple of lost tourists, we were greeted with gracious hospitality, a beautiful atmosphere, thoughtfully crafted pub fare, and perhaps the best pint of Guinness I've come across. Just a wonderful experience, and we hope to return very soon.

Hands down one of the best roast I’ve had in London. Blacklock has always been on top of my list but the George is a pretty good contender!!! The meat was excellent, the potatoes were soooo good, not mentioning the giant yorkshire pudding. If you go there you MUST try their cocktails. We had their sticky toffee old fashioned which was one of the best old fashioned we’ve had, the spicy clementine margarita (absolute killer), and their smoked plum negroni. We will definitely be back.

We popped in last Sunday for a roast. We chose the roast shared platter and it is honestly the best roast lamb we have ever tasted. Better than any roast lamb we have had in Australia! The Yorkshire puddings were huge and yummy. Unfortunately we don’t think any roasts on our tour of the UK will now meet our expectations after our meal at The George. Very memorable meal. Thank you

The George pub was so welcoming and accommodating due to my dietary requirements the food was amazing for my whole family of six and my sister who is wheel chair bound the pub had really good access with disabled car parking space. The service was impeccable from bar staff Alan, and waiter grace who was so friendly and nice to me and my family. management also came out and made sure everyone was happy with the experience not to mention the pub was very clean and nicely decorated will definitely be back.

Came for thanksgiving dinner - £80 for extremely dry turkey, burned biscuits, a small amount of gravy, yams that were truly inedible and 4 green beans. Very surprised for the quality for how much ££ it was. For two of us, dinner came to £240. Absolutely ludicrous, could not be more disappointed.

Came here for a Thanksgiving dinner. I feel absolutely violated. £80 for 3 tiny courses. The turkey was very dry, biscuits were burnt and the yams were inedible. Would have refused to pay had they not taken Payment prior to us visiting. Very disappointing, girlfriend is crying. Cocktails, however were quite nice.

Terrible pub, dreadful service, useless bar staff, stood for 20 minutes and still could get serviced. Advice: close. Recruit the right number of staff, train them and be a normal pub.

Loved the new twist on the scotch egg for the holiday season! The fish and chips are very good! Sticky toffee pudding for a dessert is a must!

We went for the Sunday Roast. Full disclaimer: this was our first Sunday Roast. Our server Pablo said they serve the BEST Guinness, so of course we gave that a try and it was really good. Our table of five all ordered the beef because the chicken was gone by the time we got there at 18:00. We also ordered the Parker House rolls and Scotch eggs for starters. Both were good! The roasts came out and we enjoyed it very much. The guys would have liked a little more meat, but everything tasted good. For dessert we shared the sticky toffee pudding and it was also very tasty. The food was good, but the service was the best part. Pablo was so friendly and helpful in explaining the menu, as was everyone else. Our first Sunday Roast was a great experience and I’d recommend The George.

Auf der Suche nach Fish and Ships reservierte uns der Concierge vom The Londoner einen Tisch am Samstagabend. Unsere Erwartungen wurden mehr als erfüllt. An der Bar war es trubelig, eine kleine steile Treppe führte in den ersten Stock ins Restaurant mit gemütlichen Tischen. Das Essen war super lecker und das Guinness und Cider immer parat. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich und aufmerksam und wir hatten einen sehr entspannten Abend. Bei unserem nächsten London Besuch ist es sicher wieder ein Muss.

Beautiful pub - it does look like it skews towards food (and not cheap food) but you can still go in and order at the bar. My pint of Verdant was £7.50 which was better than I expected. Quite dark at 6pm on a Sunday, but lovely atmosphere

Came for Sunday roast. Had chicken and beef, both were succulent and tasty. Although a bit more pricey than others in London, the portions were a good size and everything was full flavoured. Sticky toffee pudding was also a winner. Great atmosphere. Recommend booking!

I’ve had Sunday roast two times here now and both times the service was quite slow and on second time they also forgot to deliver part of out order. The food tasted good and by hiring more staff or fixing this service issue they would get a better rating from me!

Great place, but the bar is very large so it can be hard to have a drink comfortably even when half busy. Would suggest always booking a table even for drinks. It's also very expensive for a pub. Food upstairs good, very English and traditional.

One of the best roasts I’ve had in London! Food was so good. The Bloody Mary & Irish coffee is a must. Staff very friendly too. Only thing I would say is the small round tables are quite small if you want to enjoy the range of sides

Had a very good lamb navarin special in the cosy upstairs dining area. Only slightly disappointed it was not served with any bread, which I would normally expect for this type of dish.

Great food and great service! The upstairs portion is the dining area and it’s a bit more low key and quiet than the pub area downstairs, but we still loved it.

Great pub food! Traditional and lovely English pub decor. Very pleasant server. Downstairs bar area was bustling with lots of happy people enjoying a pint. We were seated upstairs in the dining room for dinner which is what we wanted. Every other party also seated upstairs were American tourists like ourselves. Thought it was funny as they must have read the good reviews online too.

From the moment we walked in, we sensed a real warmth about this place, the team were so welcoming, attentive and the service is impeccable. Mark and the team made us feel like we were visiting friends. We had the roast with sharing meat for two which was simply delicious. Credit and thanks go to the chef and kitchen team, the food was absolutely superb. Having spent many years in our quest to find the perfect pub Sunday roast, we stumbled across this gem. The Sunday roast is by far the best out dining roast dinner we’ve ever had. Achieving both exceptional food and service is a rarity unless you are dining in a top restaurant, as you would expect, however this place takes some beating. Fantastic food, classic British pub classics but served with a dollop of contemporary innovation. Drinks to match; frozen Irish coffee was a dream!! Brilliant, true British pub and eatery. Hats off, the team are also wonderful.

Classy pub that is beautifully decorated and is every bit of what a classic British pub should be. Only went in for a pint but this place oozes classiness. Menu looked great and I will pop back some time soon to try the food. Well worth a visit.
