Went with friends no atmosphere food was awful just like something out of the freezer for the money they charge you would expect freshly prepared food but this was not the case. we had to move to the bar area as they wanted to close the restaurant it was 9.45.the table we sat at in the bar was filthy the pub needs a complete renovation never to return

Agree with others a variation in menu would be good,had the salmon about three months ago and remarked how good it was. Sadly today's was so disappointing. Sure before it was roasted but today poached and under done,very small fillet a few potatoes and meagre spinach for just under £19. Altogether an underwhelming over priced lunch

Well our previous visit in March did not go well, however we thought that we would give it another go for Sunday lunch. Turns out that they don't do a traditional Sunday roast! Seriously? This supposedly traditional English Pub/Restaurant not offering a ubiquitous and classic Sunday tradition! Apparently there were technical issues with the kitchen, (a very vague explanation was given by a rather embarrassed member of staff) however a normal weekly/limited menu was available. Two weeks later we tried again with the same response. Normally if we have a unsatisfactory experience, we are always prepared to give it another go; everyone has bad days. Very disappointed indeed... We may try again, just so I can update this review...

We have been to this local restaurant several times and always enjoyed our meals.There is a nice comfortable ambiance in the restaurant and always good service. However! We have noticed that on our recent visits, with a few months between visits, that there has been very little change to the smallish menu. On our last visit we overheard another party say, as they sat down, “ Oh the menu is the same”. I think a few changes to the menu would be helpful to entice us back, this comment is meant as helpful feedback.

Excellent food, great value for money and friendly staff, what more could you want? The portion sizes are large and the menu catered for a wide variety of tastes.

My wife and I visited with a group of friends last weekend for the first time here for a number of years but unfortunately the experience was not as good as I recall it. Starting with a positive the ambience is excellent which our friends from Spain really appreciated. The menu and food was average pub grub standard. The service was lacking professionalism, they left us a wine menu but never bothered to take our order until the meal was virtually over and they were not familiar with the items on the menu.

Although I’ve lived in the area for nearly 30 years this was my first visit to the George Inn. It had a homely, friendly feel. Loved the beams in the restaurant. Parking was easy. Service was friendly and good. There was a reasonable choice of dishes on the menu. Food was well presented and portion sizes were good. It was a relaxing evening. I’d definitely come back again!

They ignored my request for a lactose free sandwich and buttered the bread. No apology no refund offered.

Visited for Mothers Day lunch. Very disappointed with the choice of menu, no white meat or vegetarian option for roast dinner. Overpriced at £35.00 for a two course meal. Service very slow and waitress rude at times. Won’t be returning.

We have been trying to frequent this establishment several times. However they seem to be closed most of the time. Our last visit resulted in several menu items being unavailable as were certain real ales. Our reason for our visit. Very limited and unimaginative menu, resulting food was poor. Staff clearly wanted to leave and close early; did not feel welcome at all... For some reason the toilet was the warmest place, but flooded with water (Hopefully) everywhere. Sadly could not recommend..

Visited on Valentines night and it was sublime, as usual. The food was exceptional, Lorraine and all her colleagues in the kitchen are perfectionists. The staff were attentive and professional as always, it is honestly a pleasure to visit. We honestly adore this venue, it’s a pleasure to visit and a heartache to leave, very much look forward to visiting again soon. Highly recommend, it is faultless, trust me.

Very small portions, starters shop bought prawns, main average a bit tasteless and the pudding was microwave with lumpy custard no care. Staff very young with very little experience. wouldn't go back

We stumbled across this great roadside pub while looking for a snack lunch. Our choices of freshly made sandwiches, BLT and a Fish Finger, both were good and served with a salad and washed down with a well kept pint of bitter.

The second time we have visited and enjoyed every part of our meal and evening. Waitresses are lovely and cannot do enough for you. Masks are worn at all times by the waitresses and this is the only restaurant that we’ve witnessed this. All 6 of us had the roast and it’s honestly the best roast we’ve had in a restaurant. We have dined here a number of times, before and after the lockdown. Service has always been friendly and approachable, nice variety of dishes and particularly like the bread and oil starter.

First visit to this old style pub. We sat inside as despite the nice weather it chose to rain on our drive out to the pub. We had two different young ladies serve us and they were both very nice. We ordered a Cajun chicken burger and a tomato, mushroom and hallumi burger. Both were good size meals. The hallumi burger was very nice but the Cajun chicken was extremely salty. Not something I have ever encountered anywhere else. Luckily my husband and I shared them and had half each of the burgers and I still left some. There was no way I could have eaten it all. It was far too salty. We were asked at the end of our meal if everything was okay and this was mentioned to the waitress. She said she would tell the kitchen but nothing was said to us afterwards. I would return but would definitely not order the Cajun burger again.

Very tasty meal but ordered pork stroganoff and rice (no mention of mushrooms) only got 3 very small pieces pieces of pork rest were mushrooms, my husband ordered the same but with chips (which were very nice) and had hardly any pork too, very small portions. We weren’t asked for track and trace contact details either.

We visited for an anniversary meal yesterday. There’s a limited menu at the moment but still lots of choice. My husband had the sirloin steak and I had the roast lamb. We visited for a Tuesday lunchtime having walked the doggies and it was our first visit since the lockdown easing. We were welcomed by Sharon who was just wonderful, and the food was as good as it ever was. So glad to be back, Greg and Lorraine have a wonderful pub and you would be mad not to visit, it really is that good!!!

Visited for a nice dinner with my friends and was told by the manager ( Harry ) that there was no tables inside I therefore asked for a table outside and before he replied to let me know wether or not If there was any vacant he demanded for id. Me and my friends are in fact over the age of 18 but we felt very targeted even though we was only requesting a table outside and not even alcohol !! It was very off putting and I felt as though I was targeted in a very rude manor.

Just back from lunch at the George Inn. First time visit there, very impressed.The menu is varied, service friendly and attentive, and the food, especially what I had was hot, well cooked and presented. Steak Pudding with veg very tasty. Enjoyed another great lunch here. Home cooked food at its best, good selection, pleasant, helpful staff. Never been disappointed. Had a Roast Sunday lunch a couple of years ago and tat was really good. Hopefully try again soon. The homemade chicken and bacon pudding was delicious, certainly recommend.

What a lovely welcome from the bar lady she recognised uncle Gordon and because of bad health he hadn't been for ages. We had a Sunday roast here on 23rd February 2020. Cost £15.95 each.The pub is very old and full of character. The staff are lovely and very friendly.When the meal came there was a plentiful amount of meat and the side dish of vegetables were nicely cooked but oh dear, the Yorkshire had obviously been hanging around a while but it was okay. The roast potatoes were awful, which was a shame because it’s my favourite part of the meal.I would hazard a guess that they had been raw and put in hot fat and left to cook. They were very brown on one section only and the rest was potato coloured. When I tried to cut through them when it came to the brown bit it was almost impossible. I don’t remember ever leaving roast potatoes before. They weren’t freshly cooked and they were lukewarm. They spoilt a decent meal.

Went with 12 friends for lunch in the bar ,great variety ,great value and the beers were good as well. Quick service and the staff are very friendly,and the atmosphere with with the open fire on a cold wet day could not have been better

Fortunately we know this pub by reputation and were with friends who go there regularly but if we hadn’t we probably would have driven past. The interior is far more pleasant and the atmosphere is fine. The food is very good with a varied menu. The halloumi chips were particularly good. It was not very busy but the service was efficient and friendly.

We have been coming here for over a decade and have NEVER had a bad meal or experience. Wonderful food, wonderful staff. Gregg and Lorraine are simply the most delightful and hospitable of hosts. It is always our pleasure to visit and spend time in this amazing establishment.

RUDE RUDE RUDE !!!! After a few conversations I called to book tho venue for our daughters christening.. the owner of the pub picked the phone up and I asked can I talk to the manager regarding booking a christening and his response was.... no you AINT when you call at this time,, this shows to me the owner does not value or appreciate customers and also struggles with the pressure of a Thursday lunch in his pub!! I would strongly advise not to use this pub as nobody appreciates rude customer service and arrogance

Went with the family, ordered the beef and pork roast. Tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave. Potatoes weren't crispy or fluffy and also like they'd gone cold and been reheated. I left both. Horrible.

We were impressed with the menu, which was a little different from your average pub grub. The scallops and crispy bacon starter was full of flavour and the humus/taramasalata combo had a fresh, homemade taste. Nice to find that you could order a steak burger medium cooked; so many establishments insist on cooking burgers until they are grey “for health and safety reasons”. The lamb rump was tasty with a selection of obviously fresh vegetables. The ginger and rhubarb crumble was so good that we wished we had not had to share a portion (over indulgence with the earlier courses).

Booked table for four. We were seated immediately on arrival. Service throughout was good. We all enjoyed our food which was excellent. Despite an early evening booking we were not rushed so we had a very pleasant evening.

Food was average. Went for the three course Sunday lunch. Beef was overcooked. Sticky toffee pudding was swimming in sauce which was badly presented as the sauce was dripped around the bowl. Service was bad. Waited ages for plates to be cleared. Waited ages for drinks. Had to ask for sugar for the coffee as it wasn’t brought out. Table filled up with empty glasses but no one cleared. Wasn’t even busy so no excuses for the poor service received. Best thing about it was the prawn cocktail starter. Wouldn’t return.

You can always guarantee a delicious meal at The George. You may have a slightly longer wait than you would at many pubs where the food is brought in a van ready made, but here the food is absolutely fresh and cooked to order. We had a delicious dinner here a week ago - sea bass for me, and steak and mushroom pie for my partner - and then came here again yesterday with our walking group. Eleven of us enjoyed an excellent lunch, and Sharon was amazing sorting out our seating arrangements and our various menu choices. Thanks Sharon - you are a star - and thanks to chef from us all.

Went to the George 2017 very good so had a 40 th birthday coming up so decided to book for 25 of us booked well in advance great food great drinks the 3 waitresses who served us were brilliant the whole evening was a great success thank you to all the staff at the George for making my daughter in laws 40 th great

We ate in the fancier dining room. I'd have preferred the more atmospheric pub area, but the back room was lovely as well. Had a Sunday roast, and the gravy was excellent.

I visited The George for dinner with some female friends. The restaurant was busy but there was only one young waitress, whose name was Josephine, serving. She worked extremely hard and despite that fact that she was on her own, we did not have to wait too long for anything. The meal was lovely but the only disappointment was that the garlic mushroom starter we had all previously enjoyed was no longer available.

We have eaten here many times but tonight was very disappointing. We were 7 celebrating 2 birthdays. We waited a long time for the food and when it arrived 2 orders were incorrect and 2 Cod and chips had no chips. The chips arrived 10 and 15 minutes respectively later. The steak pie had no veg and arrived 10 minutes later and was really not fit for purpose. The last meal to arrive, way after the others, was ham, egg and chips and the eggs tasted of oil. This meal should have had Bakers Bread with it, but we didn’t see it. What went wrong? It wasn’t even busy. Was any one in charge in the kitchen. What a disappointing meal. Some of our party had travelled from Scotland and we highly recommended The George. I don’t think I will do that again.

Came here with a walking group. Such a lovely spot in the garden for a late summer lunch. Not only was the food excellent, the service was top notch. The staff were friendly and warm, nothing was too much trouble. Will look forward to a return visit.

We always love meals at The George, so thought we'd pop in for a 'girlie' lunch last Tuesday. Ate in the bar area but still received first class waitress service from Jo. Food was fab as always, loved the cheese and walnut salad, prawns and the fish patter. Lovely ambiance, charming surroundings, delicious food and great service - what more could you want?

What a lovely experience yesterdays lunch was. An incredidibly hot day.the restaurant was smart,cool and traditional. Tables laid up with Linen and spaced nicely apart. 2 young people served us...both were polite, friendly and helpful. Well done.Set menu on a Sunday..its not cheap...it is very good though. We have eaten several times during the past few weeks at The George, both in the restaurant itself and in the bar when the restaurant has been full. Great for both lunch and dinner and we have thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The pub is charming, restaurant ambiance is great, the food is delicious and mostly good value - especially the steak pie and steak puddings, which are the meatiest we have ever eaten in a restaurant - the prawn linguine, pork fillet and Cajun chicken. We also have enjoyed the sticky toffee pud’ and rum cheesecake. Good selection of wines too. The waiting staff are all knowledgeable, professional and friendly - a special mention for Josephine, Georgia, Jenny and Carla who are all always so friendly and helpful. Sharon in the bar is also lovely. The George is definitely at the top of our current favourite places to eat list

Called in for a family lunch on Bank Holiday Monday and had a really enjoyable meal in the lovely restaurant. Our party of seven all enjoyed their food. We were very well looked after as usual and will visit again soon.

The George is a lovely quaint village pub and restaurant that has a great atmosphere and serves excellent food. The staff are friendly and cheerful. The menu caters for the majority of people and the food is of a high standard.

A group of 20+ of us came here for lunch and we were very well looked after. They put us on two tables at the back of the restaurant looking out into the garden. We had all pre-ordered our food from a pre-agreed set menu which had good choices available. I think this is always a good idea with large groups and it it worked pretty well today. I must say that on our table we were all happily surprised by the quailty of the food and speed of service. So often with large parties Restaurants serve mediocre food, some time barely warm and slowly. This was definitely not the case here, in fact far from it!
