The George and Dragon Restaurant in South Lakeland

The bar looks pleasant and the ales are well kept and interesting. Eating is in the dining room. Sticky tables and ghastly carpet. Barking dogs in the room added an unwelcome soundscape. If the food had been good I wouldn’t have minded. Vegetarian choices are lasagne, curry and pizza. I chose the vegetarian pizza. The veg was minimal and the cheese weirdly chewy. Staff were efficient. There are few choices for evening dining in Dent and none but the George & Dragon on a Monday. But seriously, it could do better.

We are in a short 3 day break with our 3 dogs. The weather is atrocious but the welcome at the G&D is warm and welcome, 3 dogs, muddy walking boots no problem! There’s a great wholesome menu, the chef makes most of the meals himself and very reasonably priced. For example : 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 beers and a glass of wine was £52!!! For that back home in Norfolk you can add another £30 at least. A genuinely excellent local traditional pub! Thank you for your excellent hospitality!

Very friendly service , average food and the place though in an ideal spot is in great need of an upgrade

I didn't stay at the place but had an evening meal and a Sunday lunch which I was advised to book in advance as the other pub in the village as stoped doing food.The evening meal was oven chips and pinged pie with frozen peas,however the Sunday lunch was spectacularly awful.aunt Bessies roast potatoes and yorks puds,frozen veg and sliced beef ,not off a joint.The gravy was bistro granulles.My partner add chicken which was also pinged to an inch of its life was so dry she could not eat any of it .The actual restaurant was cold soleless and so bright,however the waiting on staff were polite.The food is very basic to say the least and my advise is get in the car and go else where .steve
