After struggling to find somewhere to eat on a bank holiday Monday we were recommended this place. Honestly the food was some of the best I’ve had. The steak pie was incredible and my very fussy children loved theirs too. Puddings were honestly amazing. The staff were lovely and the chef came out to chat too! (Plus there’s WiFi and slushies so the kids were even happier! If id known I’d have brought the puppy too!)

We visited the pub on a Monday evening and it was reasonably busy, which is excellent. We received a very friendly welcome from Andy and his wife. We have been visiting this pub for many years and so pleased it has reopened again. The food and service were both extremely good. We both ordered fish and chips, and the price was very reasonable. We will definitely visit again and have recommended the venue to friends and family. We had a lovely evening, thank you.

Called on the off chance it was open. What a little gem. Proper village pub with a chirpy welcome from the resident parrot in the bar area. Gorgeous home cooked food. My elderly father had steak pie with mashed potatoes and peas, supplied with a jug of home cooked gravy. Washed down with a nice pint of Black Sheep ale. Ample portion size. I had the shepherds pie with three veg and roast potatoes. Wonderful and very filling. Clean plates all round. Nice roaring fires 🔥 and very friendly staff. We will certainly be back. I’d recommend anyone to try it. Ample parking at the rear of the pub.

It was getting late on Sunday afternoon and we hadn't had our dinner, so we nipped into the George and Dragon and asked if they were still serving Sunday Dinners, and was surprised when they said yes. Our meal was absolutely gorgeous, you could define what each piece of food tasted like, not like some that all taste the same. Separate tureens for the vegetables and lovely roasted beef gravy yum! Guess what were coming back for another meal soon :-)

Stopped here by chance last night after struggling to find somewhere that could cater for 7 without an hour long wait! We were so glad that we did!! The food (all homemade & fresh) was amazing and there was plenty of it. All 7 meals were cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. Even though we were all stuffed, we had to try the desserts!! Again, we weren't disappointed. Fresh, tasty and presentation outstanding! Staff were welcoming, friendly, efficient and couldn't do more for us. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area and we will be sure to visit again when we come back next year.

Called in here today with my good lady wife and two young children. The barman was convivial and took an interest in the real ale (which was spot on). My wife enjoyed her pink gin and the children enjoyed making friends with the owl in the beer garden. All in all we were made very welcome in this pub which is full of character and the beer garden is a great sun trap. I look forward to returning and sampling the food.

During a recent visit to the village we decided to pay the 'local' a visit. Having looked on other social media sites, it was uncertain as to whether the pub was even open! One page ranted on about various reasons why the pub had closed!! Another, more recent page indicated it had reopened!! On a lovely evening we ventured into the 'beer garden'. It is completely overgrown and uncared for! The view to the pub was one of dirty windows, curtains hanging off the rails and a general feel of not caring. Our drinks were a pint of Bombardier and a glass of wine. Beer tasted off (not drunk and left on the table). The glass of wine was served in a lipstick marked glass! Would I eat here? Definitely no!! Come on new people!! Show some care and attention!!

Iconic pub that has been through many changes of hands..we had really very good food here. Roast dinner with Fresh veg, with cauliflower cheese, and cheesy leaks as lovely extras. The best vegetarian gravy ever with my veg pie with homemade pastry lid. Portions could be smaller to make it more profitable though? The downside of this very old pub is that it needs an injection of cash to refurb it. Although it looks better in the dining room than before, over all the toilets need doing and it needs some interior styling and new stuff like a proper coffee machine. They could then offer mums with prams coffee and cake on certain mornings or afternoons as there are plenty walking by for school runs! The plus sides are the charming open fires and ample parking and the food- it really should be packed for dinners as the food is good (although the menu is too large- thinking of the Gordon Ramsay rule!) The TV has no place in the dining room as there’s one in the bar anyway. The man serving us was friendly but no smiles or communication from the lady behind the bar. Also it would help if they dressed in a simple uniform- eg black shirt as they all looked too casual. The pub needs to make itself known for the good home cooked food and ask the brewery for help with refurbishments. It could be as busy as The Stag at Lelley with investment and tweaking! Please go and support 😃

The George and Dragon have new owners. We visited over a year ago and it was excellent. Today we came by and it was fantastic. We had a vegetarian Sunday “roast” with all the trimmings - stuffing, roast potatoes, gravy, green beans, Brussels sprouts, Yorkshire pudding, carrot and sweet potato mash. It was incredible. The selection well surpassed all of our expectations. They were playing an interesting selection of 1980s music. Everything from Van Halen, to Tracy Chapman, Starship to REO Speedwagon. It brought back a lot of great childhood memories. They also have a beautiful African Grey Parrot. Her name is escaping me but she is delightful, she even knows how to dance ❤️❤️❤️. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon out. My boyfriend and I do not get to spend a lot of time together and I am going back home soon. It was the perfect afternoon out for us. We really appreciate it.

Went into this pub as it is near to where some friends live and we had just visited them. Did not know what to expect. Really warm and beautifully decorated with Christmas items. Really friendly and caring staff. Extensive menu (and lots of old items from Victorian and before newspapers between lists of food .. fascinating) . All home made fare . Fresh, hot and excellent . Vegetables that you helped yourself to . Lovely coffee in a cafetiere . Really surprised and pleased. I hate it when I go in somewhere and there are no fresh vegetables and its chips etc throughout the menu. Had a starter for £1 as we were having a main meal too. That was breaded garlic mushrooms and they were so hot I had to wait a few moments (don't like lukewarm food that has been left to stand). Lovely plentiful salad with those too. Will be back again.

Four of us went to the George & Dragon yesterday for the first time. Not sure what to expect but the meal was great. At least five sorts of steak pies. Three of us had steak and mushroom and one had BBQ. The pies were all homemade in big trays and the portion you got had plenty of meat very tasty. You also helped yourself to vegtables. We also had a dessert, two of us had apple crumble with cream and two had a big slice of cake with cream. All desserts were delicious. When you order the pie at the bar for £6.95 you can add a starter or dessert for a £1.00. Great food at a good price. Will definitely be going again.

I am disabled and the staff there could not do enough to help/accommodate me.Three of us went for lunch and all had enjoyable meals. I had the scampi, chips and salad which was very nice and reasonably priced. The only negative I found was that the menu could me made simplistic by removing the historical facts of the pub and just leave the menu as a menu. The historical facts could be left in a separate folder for patrons to peruse at their leisure. This though did not spoil our meal and was in fact our third visit to the George and no doubt will be visiting again very soon.Special praise must go to Rosie who as ever was always on hand to help.

We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff and given a very varied menu and information regarding the carvery. We all decided on the pies - steak and potato/steak and mustard or steak and onion. We were served a large slice of pie plus a home made yorkshire pudding and then helped ourselves to veg. A great choice of fresh veg - carrot and potato mash/sprouts/cabbage/peas & sweetcorn/carrots plus a lovely gravy. We all licked our plates clean! The steak was VERY tender, the pastry superb and the veg beautifully cooked. A proper home cooked lunch. Together with 4 lager shandies the bill came to £32 for the four of us. The gravy was made from meat stock, not gravy granuals at all, proper gravy. Our little girl had the toad in the hole. It was a huge home made Yorkshire pudding with 5 sausages, enough for all of us. My wife said she didnt want much so she opted for the quiche....Huge portion, wonderful home made quiche and home made chips with a beautiful salad. Will we go again........Definitely.Only complaint was there wasnt any real ales on at the moment but I believe they normally do have.Keep up the good work

Recently stayed at The George and Dragon for a few nights whilst taking part in The European Open Fishing Championships. Could not have been more pleased, firstly by the price and then by the menu and food on offer. The rooms are basic but clean and the beds are very comfortable. The pub accommodates various numbers in various rooms, so that if as a group, you can all stay together. Now we come to the "Food" ! I ordered the Beef Stroganoff. I was looking forward to this meal as I had not eaten all day. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, all I was led to believe, was that the meals were large. When it did come out, I had to look twice and looked around the pub for others, who were here to join me and help me get through it. It came out on a plate that I am used to cutting up a Very Large Christmas Turkey on.! Normal size I was told for every meal here. The stroganoff was delicious, thick and creamy with tender beef strips. With this meal came the best chips ever, rice, salad, with various ingredients, but what surprised me most was the "Strawberries" which, after adding to everything were brilliant, something I would not have thought about. The "Bowl" of stroganoff would have fed an Army, end of. I did manage to devour 90% of this meal and enjoy every mouthful. Pudding? No Way.!! In conversation after finishing this meal, someone at the Bar said, If you think that was big then have breakfast, starting with "A Dustbin Full Of Cornflakes". We did have breakfast and out it came,!. Just to get the idea, think of everything you can think of that goes on a breakfast plate, then triple the quantity and layers you might get the idea of what I am talking about here. Go there, see it to believe it. End Of. Oh and yes, if you are there for the fishing, Lisa the Landlady has Just taken up Fishing and has a new rod and reel, so spare the time to give her some useful tips. Brilliant place, brilliant Pub, Brilliant restaurant, and Very Nice Land Lord and Lady. We will Be Back, very soon.

We went into The George and Dragon approx. 10 months ago, having been in once.many years ago,and came out later totally amazed by this experience....We only wanted a snack and viewed the menu to see what we could enjoy!!!! I have eaten many meals out and have a passion for Gammon and Eggs... In this pub, you have to wait for your meals as they are cooked to order, but rest assured, you will never be disappointed here by the wait, The meal that came on our table was without question, one of the best I ever tasted. The plate was filled with gammon/eggs beans/tomatoes and a side salad.Plus a large portion of chips. my wife had scampi and side salad with an equal portion of chips, and in essence too much really for each of us...we have been in several times since this first visit and they have never been smaller, only another meal enjoyed by me at least is their all day breakfast which is the largest I have ever seen, other meals on the menu are as good,by watching others struggle to finish them, and in most cases not succeeding..It thoroughly deserves a visit by anyone who holidays in that area... We don't mind travelling over 20 miles each way to have a meal there as the meals and pub is worth everfyh penny spent on the pleasure....A gem in any language

We stopped in on a Tuesday late afternoon. There was only one table occupied so it was nice and quiet. We both had double scoop cones. There were loads of ice cream flavours to choose from. Yummy.

We booked into the lodges next to the Gardeners Inn and decided to walk around for dinner & drinks. The venue is decorated for Halloween which I did enjoy and we had a lovely welcome from the waitress. A few item were sold out but the menu was plentiful and the food did not disappoint. I had the sizzling hunters chicken and my partner had Korean Chicken. Portion size was fantastic the side salad & slaw was fresh, definitely the best hunters chicken I’ve had. Banoffee Pie & cream for dessert again it was better than any other I’ve tried. Lovely atmosphere, service time felt right for the number of tables eating and the price was reasonable. Would recommend 100%

First visit to this lovely little restaurant to celebrate 🍾 both Mother’s Day and my wife's 60th birthday and we were not disappointed! The setting in the window table with background music and plenty of space was perfect. We ate off the a la carte menu and we both had three courses complimented by a bottle of fizz. Each course was food heaven and the service was exceptional so we will be returning for the Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday in April. Thank you
