Beer was good, food was deep fried and average at best Service was fine... but even though we had a table you could not have a tab / pay at the end of the meal and had to pay up front. Food was edible, (I had scampi and chips), but it was overcooked, deep-fried and fairly tasteless. Noone came and asked how our meal was going, and when the waitress came to collect our plates, she did not ask how our meal WAS. just whisked the plates away. I could not be bothered to go and tell them that although we ate it all, (we were starving), it wasnt great. would we return if in Charmpouth again, probably not, as there is a pub up the road which looked better, but was v small.. but if that was full, then id go there for a beer only and get a takeaway fish n chips from across the road!

Disappointed. We were holidaying in Charmouth and The George looked a good bet, Trip Advisor indicated that it was open all day. Not so. We walked up to it and found it was closed from 14:30 until 18:00. Not all lost we found the Royal Oak.

Family oriented pub, polite and friendly staff. Big garden with plenty for children. Dog friendly. Bit pricey for food which was a typical pub menu - it was nice but the chips tasted as if the oil had been used too long. Dog meal of rice and chicken nice touch (consider the size of your dog it’s only a little pudding bowl full for £4 which would do some fine but not my collies they had to have ice cream too! 😂)

A lovely family pub, staff were great and it was really a nice place for a meal!! Food was a bit meh kinda okayish, just a few tweaks and it would have been perfect! A better quality chip they tasted cheap, toasting the burger buns a chunk of fresh pineapple instead if tinned would make such a difference

We visited The George on Saturday evening and were looking forward to the Party in the pub with live music playing in the beer garden. Unfortunately we left very disappointed! The drinks were fine, but we were disappointed in the limited selection of local beers and ciders. There were no Dorset ciders available at all and the only options were Thatchers Gold or Old Mout. Dorset has so many fantastic local producers, so it was really a shame that this was not represented. We are a family of 4 and all ordered a main course. Two of us chose the gammon as a healthier choice, one had a chicken burger and my son chose the macaroni cheese. The gammon steak itself was okay but the salad I asked for as an accompaniment had far too much dressing on and the pineapple slice seemed to be an uncooked round from a tin. The chips were just frozen chips. The macaroni cheese really wasn’t good. It had very little cheese taste and was floury and watery. It was a real shame as the price of the food suggested a much higher standard. It would have been lovely to have freshly prepared food, but unfortunately a lot of it seemed frozen or heavily processed. The music was fine, but just a bit loud to enjoy with a meal. Unfortunately we didn’t finish our food and left to eat alternative meals at home. The pub itself has a lovely atmosphere and there is a nice space outside for children to safely play. The staff were all friendly, chatty and polite. They made us feel very welcome even though we clearly weren’t locals. Local produce and fresh food would have vastly improved our experience at The George, but unfortunately we won’t be returning.

After visiting on Saturday evening we found out the George does home made Pizza on Monday. My Wife and two children was very keen to try this experience, which in truth I wasn't a bit keen as I not had a good pizza for 25-30 years which I used to get in my local village from a proper Italian restaurant. I've tried various places including major brands and chains but nothing ever came close to it until tonight. Met by a very friendly barmaid which we later found out was called Linda, we was served drinks and told where to order and collect our food. Served by yet another friendly young lady we waited for properly cooked pizza which I can only say is the best by far and on a par with what I had many years ago and very sensible price. I can really say if I had to rate them out of 10 I would give them a 11 . Thanks all at the George.

We are visiting Charmouth for a week and visited The George on our first day as it was the closest pub to our camp site. The food was lovely and the staff were helpful with some changes to the kids meals. The experience is really made by the excellent service of the staff. My 12 year old autistic son chatted with a member of staff about rocks and she was extremely kind, patient, inclusive with her approach. My son was keen to return again before the end of the holiday and gave the staff member a rock. The member of staff remembered him and gave him a warm welcome once again. Would highly recommend for a lovely family experience, with quality food and staff who are absolutely getting inclusivity right ☺️.

Went with my wife in early October for dinner and drinks. The George seemed well run, the beer was well kept and the food arrived quickly. The staff were pleasant and polite, and after customers had left we noticed tables were cleaned quickly. The menu was classic pub fare, not trying to be overly complicated and was well executed, we had the veggie options and had no complaints. Portions were well sized, not too much or too little. Sticky Toffee Pudding was great, would happily go back.

The pub looked warm and inviting, nicely decorated in Halloween theme. Unfortunately we were ushered straight out the back to dine in a "tent" in the rain with patio heaters. It was pretty much downhill from there.Going by other reviews I had the Steak & Ale pie, which was good, but the other meals were awful, especially the kids menu. Nothing fresh or homemade here, all shop bought frozen, ready made stodge served with a mountain of chips. Even the pizza came with chips & beans!? This pub is very behind the times.Waitresses not interested and very robotic, which was likely due to all the Covid safe gear they had to wear.Good beer, but waitresses only knew 2, so check them out as you enter!Dog friendly.

We visited here on a rainy Saturday at the end of October, initially for drinks in the afternoon whilst waiting for the bus to Bridport and then we came back for dinner in the evening. We arrived at 5.45pm (they start serving at 6pm) and it quickly became full. I was a little disappointed with the reduced menu available - lots of red meat and not many healthy options- the only real one was the vegan chilli which I didn’t fancy. I opted for the chicken burger which was okay but nothing amazing. However my partner had the chicken wings and then homemade steak pie, which he said was excellent. The staff are lovely and friendly and it’s a great pub, I just wish there had been more varied food choice.

We were staying close by in a holiday village and so wandering about in Charmouth looking for somewhere to eat when we came across The George. Chose to sit in the garden as felt safer in these Covid times! Pleasantly surprised at the size of the garden and there was a great play area for children, and two goats! I chose the vegan chilli which was nice but the portion size was a little small. My partners faggots were ok. My daughter had the chicken nuggets and I have to say they were awful, absolutely rock hard. I didn’t complain as my daughter was happy enough and starving but they really were quite unacceptable. Overall we had a nice evening though, it was a pleasant atmosphere and felt safe.

Staying in Charmouth, needed a quick pint and a bite. The owner and wife was so friendly you would always return. The food is good pub grub and you won't be disappointed 😉. Give it a go, and its dog friendly.

We visited The George twice on our recent holiday to Charmouth and wish we had discovered it earlier in the week! The food was simply delisious, homecooked pub food, very accommodating to all food needs, the beer garden was huge and well kitted for the kids. Also in these uncertain Covid-19 times we find ourselves living in we as a family of 6 have not eaten out much as don't feel comfortable but this place was so well thought out and so we'll organised, in fact the whole village made us feel at ease to be frank! Definately worth a stop in for some lovely service and beautiful food and if your lucky a gorgeous rainbow!

Lovely staff and probably fine for having a drink and socialising, but we went for dinner and after a 40 minute wait the food that appeared was either from a can, frozen, burnt or tasteless. We ordered a steak- medium that came out well done and tough, a burger that was pinker than the steak and burnt on the outside, sausage and mash which had burnt onions, deep fried sausages and a rubbery Yorkshire pudding. We were really looking forward to dinner but we're sadly disappointed.

I felt relaxed and safe here so really enjoyed my visit with my family. Tables were really well spaced inside with clear arrows. We sat at a picnic table outside for a drink and chips. I am a worrier and had brought some antiviral wipes with me to wipe down the table before we sat down. I had done this throughout my holiday in various tea gardens and pubs. My antiviral wipe at the George was still completely clean after wiping the whole table- no dirt at all on it! I think this is impressive, particularly for an outdoor table.Well done to the staff at The George! The chips and drinks were served with a smile and others around us were bring served some nice looking food There is also an outdoor play area and goats in the field beyond. There is also a well ventilated simple marquee with tables for when weather is poor.

Stayed in Charmouth last week and visited The George several times. Firstly just for a quick evening drink but later for the food. Initially, we called in as it was the closest pub to where we were staying. Thought we'd just pop in for a quiet drink before heading back. Glad we did. The staff were very friendly and polite. Obviously there are Covid rules in place as there are everywhere but they are easy to follow and clearly explained on arrival. Went out into the large beer garden which again is socially distanced but not to remote feeling. Large area for the kids to play in but our "little" girl (12) loved the two goats at the far end. Only popped in for the one but stayed for a couple in the end. Came back for the food next time. Greeted friendly again and shown to a table. It was busy but not "too" busy. Didn't feel crowded or rushed. Food was great. Steak was done to perfection and all our order came out quickly. Wife had Lemon Sponge and custard for her dessert and it was huge! After a couple of drinkies and full tummys we went home. Next time the place was very busy but once again, staff were friendly and showed us to our table. Food and drinks were spot on. We all had the burgers and they were superb. Desserts were delicious and although, like I said they were busy, never felt rushed. Reluctantly left after a lovely meal and headed home the next day. Can't recommend The George highly enough, only wish we had tried it earlier in our holiday.

We have enjoyed visiting The George this summer with our grandchildren. The Covid protocols adhered to while maintaining a friendly and relaxed atmosphere The garden provided a fun space for our Grandchildren 6 and 4 while we waited for our meals. The food suited us all. Excellant 'family fayre' provided by friendly efficient staff. We will definately go again.

We were a large family group who were visiting the area for the week. After speaking to the lovely Heidi and finding out how they are dealing with Covid and what we would have to do In Their establishment we were all excited. As we were a large group we had lots of different things off the menu and EVERYTHING we had was great! I would do the 4 hour drive again for the tuna mayo jacket potato! (We were there twice- 1 lunch and 1 dinner- the dads did visit Daily though!) Their rules for Covid are very clear and very easy. The pub is a lovely old place And spotlessly clean. The outside area was great for the kids (aged 8-12) and they had a bit for smaller kids too! The girls thought the pigmy goats were very cute. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating was a winner too Thanks for the great times

The location from our holiday cottage was great and the play park at the rear of the restaurant for the two 5 year olds was perfect, but the food was mediocre. The burger appeared to be deep fried along with the sausages. We would describe the whole experience as average at best.

I ordered a Ploughman's. It was perhaps the worst I have ever had. The bread (advertised as crusty) was soft ready-sliced, the cheese was cheap and rubbery, the pickled onion was dried up and it was served with Doritos (ie the cheapest available snack food). To cap it all when I asked why they were not in the "eat out to help out" scheme I was told there would be an admin cost for them and that the customers would pay anyway (ie they had a captive market they couldn't be bothered to help out). I bet they've been willing to do the admin to cut down their VAT bill though!Fortunately there are many far better places in Dorset.

We went twice and both times had to wait well over an hour for our food. The food was good but having to get up and ask where it was, was annoying. The first night was a saturday so could understand it was slow. The second was on a tuesday. They weren't doing the eat out scheme but by that point we were hungry and it was quiet so placed order. Again an hours wait. With children it's not great. Wouldn't go again.

Lovely hotel and friendly helpful staff. Pricey at £350 B&B with very average rooms but good breakfast, although service very slow. Sadly not accessible for those with mobility disorders as no lift, steep stairs and few accessible bathrooms However, marvellous for lunch or dinner on a day out

We were camping just down the road this past weekend and decided to have a browse - I'm glad we did as there was much more to this farm shop than I was expecting. Lots of different produce and gifts type things all quite nicely set out. Some things were sensibly priced considering you do expect to pay a slight premium at a farm shop (postcards 50p, fresh scones £1, clotted cream £1.99), but some of the prices were a little shocking - there were loaves of fresh bread at £4.50 and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price of ice cream being served at the side of the car park! Overall a worthwhile trip - the scones were delicious, good selection of ciders and got some lovely warm slipper socks. I'd recommend popping in if you're passing (the views are fantastic too) just don't expect any bargains.

Ate here Friday evening three of us had wood fired pizzas which were delicious, pleasant staff as always. On the Saturday two of us visited for lunch. We had crab sandwiches with a mixed leaf salad, they were tasty enough but £11 seems too much...

We wanted something less corporate for lunch and was pleased to find this cafe as it looked a little more old school and independent. The build your own breakfast offered great choice and when I said I fancied crumpets with marmite rather then the offered jam, was told this was fine. The crumpets came with a generous serving of marmite in a little bowl. This was a great find and having never been a fan of Dorchester improved my opinions if the town (finding the park also helped improve my opinion of the town) .
