Best Sunday roast in Newport, fresh home made food, excellent quality produce. Have eaten there most Sundays and have never been disappointed yet. Varied alternative menu. Perfect family friendly pub with very friendly staff, always welcoming and nothing is ever too much trouble.

Visited with 2 elderly disabled people. Staff were very helpful in accommodating us together with wheelchairs, helping us in etc. Even though bar was quite small, they found room for us. Food was great at affordable prices. Would recommend.

This whole experience was 10/10 . The staff we’re friendly and attentive. The food was cooked from scratch . The Cajun wedges were to die for . The lamb shank was totally delicious with home made gravy . Highly recommend and we will be back.

One of the best pub Sunday roasts I have had. Also visit for salad in the summer. They have a great pub garden that is a real sun trap and the salads are big and yummy.

Went for an early evening meal, No idea what menu would be like as unable to find one online or outside but we were pleasantly surprised at the varied and reasonably priced menu. Barmaid and chef were friendly.

Staying on the island for the week and got a little thirsty walking around Newport so popped in for a beer. Usual fair on the taps ie. Guinness, stongbow, doombar, 49er and Heineken too. A throwback to the 60s in its style and an obvious preference for country and bluegrass music. The pint was nice enough and the staff friendly. They have a wide range of food advertised on a board at the bar but I didn't partake. Just a thirst quencher and nothing more.

Lovely Sunday Roast Lamb. Lots of meet, gravy and vegetables. Very tasty, nice and hot. Service was very friendly too. One to recommend.

Just returned home after an evening meal at The George. There was a genuine, warm welcome when we arrived and the friendly service carried through to our food order. I had the rib-eye steak and it was a good size and cooked perfectly - absolutely melt in the mouth. My partner had lasagne and was equally impressed. All of this in a comfortable atmosphere at value-for-money pub prices. We recommend it and will be returning soon.

Having recently been to the George inn which was recommended to us by some friends we were pleasantly surprised. Great friendly atmosphere and lovely food. My husband and I had a roast and my young son had macaroni cheese from the Childrens menu. Definitely be going back!

My recent visit was probably the worst pub food I have ever had. I had the steak pie which was plopped on the plate like a huge mess, it was pub made but certainly wouldn't be the chef special. My companion had the lamb shank which was a "Special" but lacked anything decent.

We popped in for food as we were passing. Not the most salubrious looking pub but my 6 year old was starving so I was attracted by the kids menu which was plentiful. She had a lovely macaroni cheese with bread. I had a mixed cheese ploughman’s which I really enjoyed. The young girl behind the bar was friendly and although we looked a little out of place in the bar ( it was full of regulars) we did not feel unwelcome.

Didn’t book but went here on the off chance and we weren’t disappointed. Plenty of fresh veg, lovely roast potatoes and plenty of meat.

Staff rude and you wait far too long to be serve, even if it isn't busy, good average. I went there to meet a few friends, as we like it in there. Not the same as it used to be, very dissapointed. Miss and hit.

Visited Newport a few days ago came across the George inn by chance decided to give it a go on a Sunday evening we had a very good meal so good in fact we gave it another go a couple of nights later.On the sunday it was very quiet only another 6 people in there to be fair we went on from there for a drink to elsewhere and they were very quiet as well served by the owner very polite and a very good meal,the 2nd time to be fair the food was again very good as pointed out you do get huge portions but the problem was a group of three people (one on crutches) this bloke did nothing but swear loudly the whole time we were there the young blonde barmaid did nothing about it in fact she sat at the end of the bar talking to them the whole time instead of staying on and having a couple of drinks we could not get out quick enough and went to the Wheatsheaf a lot nicer pub.

Very big portions, very good food, the salads was so big even I could not finish it. Good menu. also a lovely garden where you can sit. I would say try this pub.

Lo que ha sucedido a George? Utilizada para conseguir comida realmente buena, pero ahora es una vergüenza. Tuve el chili y pensé que estaba recibiendo, pero resulta que este arroz es extra. Las patatas fritas tenía media docena de negros mezclados. ¿Por qué no puedo el aspecto chef en lo que sirve. Mi esposa tenía cod y patatas fritas que también contenían la ficha negra y el pescado estaba preparado en aceite viejo y estaba empapada en ella hasta el punto donde había un charco de agua. Nunca volveremos de nuevo y los demás! ! ! !

Qué puedo decir. . . oído un montón de comentarios sobre este lugar. Resultó que era basura! ! Pedimos el especial george hamburguesa y un pollo burger. George burger era asquerosa, el goteo de aceite, huevo en malos, setas cocidas. La hamburguesa de pollo filete de pollo era realmente una que compre de Morrisons arrinconada en un panecillo. Mi ensalada estaba lleno de grasa y una coloración marrón. Me dijeron que las porciones eran de un buen tamaño. . . Me contó. . . Tenía 14 fichas. Cuando el chico joven vino a recoger nuestros platos nos quejamos y dijo que sabía asquerosa y él simplemente respondió 'ah' y entramos. El propietario sentado en el bar bebiendo y no ofrecen una resolución a pesar de hacer evidente que no estábamos contentos. Nunca volvería. Llevar su dinero a Mcdonald's, que está justo al lado y la mitad de precio!

Queríamos visitar un pub donde mi marido y su padre solía volver en los años 60. Era un pub encantador y era domingo, así que el asado los domingos. Era enorme, no podía comer todo, pero con todas las verduras que puedas desear, la carne se caían a pedazos. Tiene una zona de estar cubierta y un jardín soleado la cerveza en el. El personal era servicial y amable.

Since the new owners took over it's gone down hill used to love the George and its food especially the George burgers that now come without salad. Breakfast also not as good , think they're scrimping to save money. Dry lasagne and a pack of crisps that were soft no bite . Service was friendly and polite and didn't have to wait too long . Probably wouldn't bother again

Tuvimos una noche realmente encantadora, gran vino y comida, personal amable. Las únicas cosas que podría haber sido mejor era el siguiente. . . El restaurante era bastante frío (no soy fría) y el camarero joven no sabía cómo hacer cualquiera de los cócteles, que era un poco frustrante, ya que se tomó su tiempo y mantuvo desapareciendo rápidamente.

Un montón de carne y queso, con un puñado de cebolla de primavera en la cima. Buena parte y servicio rápido. Volvería y muestra el resto del menú. Excelente ubicación en el centro de la ciudad, personal amable.

Fuimos hoy aquí para almorzar con mi madre, mientras que en la ciudad. No he ido por un tiempo y que hemos añadido aún más a la selección de menú que antes. Me decidí a todo Brunch día patatas, frijoles, bacon, salchichas, huevos. £7. 50. Absolutamente enormes porciones! Me sentí como que iba a explotar, cuando finalmente conseguí a través de todo. Todo cocinado aunque precioso. Madre tenía uno de sus bocadillos y dijo que estaba también delicioso.

Very good value for their Sunday roasts , nice comfortable surroundings. Shame we didn't find the George until the last day of our stay , we know where to find it next time .

Had an excellent meal here, Three of us all had different mains and all three were lovely, well cooked, huge portions and piping hot. The Rib eye steak was especially good.

Had a wonderful meal here with 6 friends. Prompt service and fantastic food. Good wine list. Salmon starter great, skate main (off the bone ) wonderful and ginger pudding a triumph. Can highly recommend.

Pasó por aquí conocí a un par de amigos antes de ir a otro sitio, si hubiéramos sabido lo agradable que era de antemano que nos hubiéramos quedado más tiempo, muy buen ambiente, el sol enorme y Sorprendentemente tranquilo teniendo en cuenta su ubicación, volveremos aquí para probar la comida en algún momento.

Lovely place, old traditional feel. The food was amazing. I had the sea bass. Perfect. Hubby had the Lamb Shank and he enjoyed it. Portions are generous.

The exterior has age and it looks the part for an old town centre pub. We have to say average in comparison with other pubs we frequent, but it is worth a visit.

Pub justo en el centro de Newport. No parece atractivo desde el exterior, pero por dentro es un encantador pub antiguo que sirve comidas muy agradable. Ambiente acogedor del personal amable, con una gran zona de asientos en la parte trasera. Buena relación calidad-precio. comidas Mi primera visita recientemente, pero lo usaremos de nuevo si vuelvo en Newport en el futuro.

He estado aquí varias veces durante sus visitas a la Isla de Wight y siempre es un éxito. Muy buena selección de platos caseros y sale caliente y abundante en porciones. Nunca he conseguido un postre como siempre demasiado lleno, pero el aspecto helados fabulosos!

Desde el exterior, el George no parece un lugar que quieras ir, pero habiendo leído los comentarios aquí primero me decidí a ir y estaba muy contenta de haberlo hecho.

Probamos este pub como uno de los lugareños nos dijeron que sirven buena comida y tenían razón. Mi marido y yo tuvimos el pastel de carne con cerveza, cuando llegó, fue una muy buena porción y estaba muy buena y caliente. Estábamos tan lleno después de la cena no probamos los postres, sin embargo vimos otros ordenar y se les veía precioso

Un amigo y yo visitamos aquí negar la posibilidad de una buena comida. Para ser justos, el hombre detrás del bar estaba genial! La comida era más como decir muelle de Sandown calidad. Puede que porque la cocina estaba a punto de cierre? Volvería otra vez para el servicio y buena cerveza y puede que un sándwich la próxima vez!!

Mi pareja y niños allí. Excelente comida en un lugar estupendo. Muy bien de precio. 1,95 para unos niños sandwiching cacahuetes ganga. Tuve un plowmans que era el mejor que he probado nunca había mucho allí. Mi compañero estaba recoger mi plato una vez ella se había terminado el sandwich de atún increíble. Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar. El único inconveniente era la antiguas fisuras los platos. Pero a quién le importa con comida como ese trabajo

One of the few remaining pubs in Newport. Staff are really friendly and make you feel welcome. A PROPER PUB. Family welcome and lots of pub grub to choose from. Lovely breakfast menu too. All day too. 9/10.

Been working on the island for 3 months and this is the most frequent place we all eat on the island. Very pleasant staff and food is always very nice for a pub meal....sea bass and the steaks are awesome.

En las primeras apariciones esto no parece como el tipo de lugar que te dan buena comida pero no te dejes engañar. ¡No hay muchos hoteles de 4 o 5 de 5 resultados por lo que estoy impresionado con este lugar que he visitado varias veces. Yo no disfrutar de excelentes restaurantes con estrellas Michelin restaurantes y pubs gastrointestinal pero también es genial para comer sano y estilo casero, comida británica clásica de pub y en que tenga en cuenta que este lugar ofrece y he visitado varias veces por esa razón. Personal agradable y relajado ambiente familiar, orientado a la familia, big sabrosas raciones, precios razonables. He disfrutado su lubina, cerdo, lasaña, bistec, así como todos los entrantes. El único aspecto negativo para mí en las numerosas visitas que he tenido son una vez tuve la hamburguesa de queso, que era como una furgoneta hamburguesa barata de hamburguesas. También en una ocasión mi comida fue lento a ser servido, sino que son normalmente bastante rápido.

Regularmente visitamos el George para comer, podemos fuertemente el desayuno, pollo, lasaña de Hunter de ciabatta de hongos de ajo, así como otros platos. También tuvimos un buffet de boda allí (mayo '15) y todos nuestros huéspedes estaban celebrando la calidad de la comida mucho tiempo después del día era más! Además, es el único pub en Newport, con un gran atractivo jardín de cerveza y práctico, acceso directo a un vecino parque de coche. El personal es muy amable.

Stopped off for lunch whilst in Newport. The value for money was amazing. Salad was fabulous and very varied and the ploughmans lunch was very generous and very good value for money.
