Sunday Roast was excellent. More than enough for 4 of us!

I agree with the others! If zero stars was an option it would definitely be that! This is the worst place I have ever been to for Sunday lunch. Ordered food 1 starter 2 dinners and 2 soft drinks, £31.25. There was only 1 other table in the restaurant with customers waiting for food (now we know why). My starter was placed on the serving hatch for 20 minutes, without someone serving it. I gave up, told staff I didn’t want the food, was told “they have to cook the food” my starter WAS cooked, and prawns left there going cold. God help the place if they had a big table, or more customers in the restaurant. Staff refused to give my money back, so over £30 for 2 soft drinks! Absolute joke of a place. Definitely AVOID!!

Went here for a music jam night. The place is very basic and a bit run down. The bar staff are more interested in talking to each other than serving drinks.

Food was absolutely stunning. Lovely bar staff. Will come back again.

Would give 0 stars if I could! Staff in carvery didn’t even try to make conversation ! Came here for Sunday Lunch. Veg was all sitting in water, Carrots were not cooked, The beef was pink, The woman was handling the meat putting it on peoples plates with her hands and touching everything else. Not hygienic. Do not recommend, False advertising on social media , Not worth it at all. Don’t waste time or money!

I was here for a gig by local group Tribe 3 it was great, good atmosphere friendly Thoroughly enjoyed it

I've been coming to the picton now every friday saturday for the last two years always Found the staff brilliant and friendly the landlord is brilliant. Never had a bad experience .5 stars easy

Lovely atmosphere! Fire is amazing enjoy sitting Infont of it during the winter nights also allowed to take my dog in that’s a bonus! Kids love the bouncy castle in the summer lovely little family run pub!

Always have a good time when I visit the Picton. The staff are friendly and helpful, the punters are a good bunch of people who also make you feel welcome and safe

Great local pub jam night is fab and Sunday lunch carvery I have most weekends with my children Car park out back and lovely beer garden with bouncy castle thanks guys will be back again this weekend

Absolutely vile place front back and inside how they are legally allowed to serve food is beyond me! We rang today to see if they had a table for a carvery the person on the phone had attitude wasn't friendly and quite inunformative! We entered the car park which was littered like a fly tipping point! We entered the rear door to see just 2 people eating and went to see what they had to offer in regards to food , the food was just vile and there really wasn't much of it! The atmosphere was very hostile as we're the staff and we left immediately! I'm now tarnished with just this memory of the veg drowning in this water in a metal pot on top of other food with no source of heating for it whatsoever! The front had clearly the local "pub lot" spitting & swearing outside with this absolutely hideous dirty bouncy castle for kids to jump on whilst in my opinion the adults just drink! Most definitely isn't a family friendly pub most definitely shouldn't be serving food and most probably is a pub that homes and serves football hooligans or those who have no care to personal or social hygiene! DO NOT ENTER!

Went there to watch the rugby. TV went off and we went to ask the self proclaimed "bar manager" to put the TV back on. She responded very rudely, and as we left she got up in our faces outside the pub with other drunken customers. Apart from that. I had a guiness which was poured horribly. Not left to settle and poured straight to the top. Very rough pub. Go to the brogden down the road they are very polite

Drinks were awful, staff were rude and aggressive.

It was Elvis weekend with my Mother we had a ball, a day to remember.

Went for a Sunday Roast, the beef was excellent but the rest of roast was mediocre. They put 2 roast potatoes 🥔 on your plate along with the meat,all the veg were being kept warm in water which obviously effected the taste and the tables looked like they'd come straight out of a labour club, no offence intended, but there was zero atmosphere. I like small businesses but sorry couldn't recommend this one.

We only called in for a drink, so can't comment on food. However, the Guinness was poor... even when the barrel was changed. And others in our party said their drinks (lagers and ciders) weren't great. When we arrived the woman behind the bar was more concerned with finishing her phone call than serving us.

popped in today on a wander from Merthyr. Friendly atmosphere, cracking pint of Guinness, bouncy castle put the back for little ones, jukebox and pool table inside. they do proper pub grub aswell so deffo be popping back to see what that Sirloins all about 😁. the Mahou beer will blow your head off, be prepared 🤣 Bonus points cos i caught Rammstein on the jukebox 😁 all in all, cracking few hours out, friendly staff, awesome drinks with easy access. 5/5 😁✌️

Lovely freshly cooked substantial Sunday lunch plus bread and butter pudding with cream at a very reasonable price. We will be returning

Came here for drinks with a big group and the woman behind the bar couldn't crack a smile if she tried. No eye contact. No Hank you. Jesus! What's wrong with you people. I would have given two stars because the guy doing Karaoke was good. But you let it down with your TERRIBLE service!!!!!

Haven't been to the Picton for years, Lovely little pub good atmosphere would definitely go back.

Inside and outside service of both drinks and a good selection of food and a good, friendly atmosphere. The only little downside is that parking can be problematic.

Went there in afternoon for a drink very over priced alcohol wasn't that great and too much drugs going on considering it's a family pub!

Didn't enjoy my experience tonight at The Picton. Second time here and it was very disappointing. Last time I visited, we were greeted by a lovely lady. Who made our night even though we couldn't drink in the pub, and only take away! Fab! So tonight, I arrived with my two friends- signed in, handsanitsed, and then ordered our drinks and sat down. While ordering out drinks the bloke behind the bar was very abrupt to my friend about what shots the pub stocked, thought ok no problem, continued to our seats. Outside seating area was well presented and beautiful. Only downside was the depressing music that was being played. I approached the bloke behind the bar, and asked if there's was anyway of changing the genre of songs as it was awfully draining, who which my surprised I was greeted with a very abrupt response of "it's a juke box, its playing random songs". I can't speak for every one in the pub but I, nor my friends didn't like his manner nor his approach to his customers this evening. I witnessed another table walk out and I over heard them mention as it was about his manner and attitude. I physically with my own eyes watched him being rude to another customer when he took his pint back as he asked for a different pint to what he was given, and his reply off the barman was "you pointed to this one not carling", there was no need for his manner nor tone. This wasn't the only incident I witnessed tonight. I'm hoping when and if I return, either the lady is working or the barman has had an attitude change. My stay wasn't long because of this, hopefully next time will be more enjoyable.

Fantastic pub.Friendly with a great pint of IPA.

Entrance to restaurant is through bar, which smelt fousty and looked very unclean, staff member too busy on her mobile to notice us trying to get her attention, which was very rude. Locals by bar using foul language whilst we walked through with our young children. Restaurant was awful with strange decor on walls, bin bags for table cloths and room smelt of urine. Two customers got up and walked out whilst we looked around, cook and staff were very disorganised and way too scruffy to be in the restaurant. We walked out as we were very put off by what we seen and didnt want to waste our money on overpriced meals and drinks. Very disappointed :(

Staff and management treated us with a complete lack of respect, coming in our face and shouting, all because we complained about the lack of food on our Sunday dinner, one meat, one veg, new potatoes, roasties x2 (rock hard) and one frozen yorshire at £7.99 We were mortified. They called it a fluke (4 dinners) ... They even switched off bouncy castle when the kids were still on it to be spiteful. Will never return here. And 1 million percent would NOT recommend this place

I didn't realise pubs could be made this bad.We were going to eat but after what we observed being served we took a rain check.The pub is run down and makes a Weathersooons look like the Ritz.Wiped our feet on the way out.Nasty little place where the deadbeats hang out.

The Picton is under new management so give it a try and a little patience as in the near future they will start doing food .

Some kid tried to pick a fight with me and was clearly on drugs. No selection on the bar as the owner is concentrating on a different pub. The star is only there for the pool table.

Pretty bad pub in general, no heating, lights all cut out whilst in there. Had a rock solid can of coke in there (frozen) and the pints ain't much better

Saturday night has bands on in the back room. Friendly atmosphere and doesnt cost the earth great place to let loose if you feel like it.

Called to the General Picton during this years Elvis Festival. Haven't been there for years, what a transformation. Excellent food and good beer! Will definitely be back next year.

While me and my wife were walking around Porthcawl we came across this pub, we decided to have a bite to eat, we both ordered the 8oz rump steak both well done, with chip's, peas and two tomatoes, both steak's came on a sizzler plate, the chips are served seperate from the steak, both steak's were cooked to perfection and there was no fat or grissle, the food was fantastic and I would highly recommend you eat here.The staff were very friendly, the only commen't I would make is it could do with a fresh lick of paint but don't let this stop you from the excellent food will definately come again well done.

Had a decent Sunday Lunch .. Loads off choice and the meat and Yorkshire pudding were very good .. Would recommend for a good value Sunday Roast

What an amazing carvery, choice of 3 meats, loads of vegetables boiled or mashed potatoes, Love the food here, we try to go as much as possible for Sunday lunch, we have been here 5 times and never been dissapointed, The food is beautiful and gravy to die for, the chef is a happy chappy and the waitress is just lovely, your drinks are brought to the table for you, then you go up when your ready to get your food,the waitress works really hard to ensure you enjoy your food and looks after every table with ease, highly recommend for a fabulous Sunday lunch

Went to picton without booking staff really friendly and food was beautiful couldn't have wished for better

The kitchen was disgusting and the curry tasted gone off also my son had a chicken burger which I didn't let him touch because it looked mouldy and the chicken wasn't even chargrilled , I only paid for the drinks because it was a disaster ... We ended up going to the fish shop.
