The General Elliot in Hillingdon

Sometimes you just don’t want the whole world to know about a place … The General Eliott pub is one of those. This pub is a real diamond… I absolutely love it ! It’s situated along side the canal in Uxbridge surrounded by bohemian canal boats and a devoted clientele. The food is Amazing especially the Sunday dinner all home made and tastes just as your mum made it but you may have to book in advance as the locals know when they are on to a good thing, the staff are lovely especially the landlady who is an honest soul. The beer garden looks onto the river and is soooo relaxing with a small play area to keep those pesky kids entertained. It’s also very dog friendly so bring those fur babies along I’m tempted to tell you all to keep this place a secret. but I just can’t, some secrets have to be shared ENJOY Toodle Pip

Good, traditional pub with sensibly priced food. I'd go again. Here I am again! Excellent home cooked food, I was very impressed with their gravy...and you can have as much as you like. Not some tiny ornate jug which hardly wets your plate.

Lovely staff and great view of the canal Guinness is great food is great. Couldn’t ask for more. Good location. Across from the hotel which makes it better if visiting!

Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Fantastic music. Something to do nearly every day of the week.

Stopping at the premier inn opposite...to be told in the beefeater that the restaurant was shut even though it was only 7.30pm... fortunately for us 2 weary travellers just back from a New Zealand holiday, absolutely knackered we called to be informed that food service finished at 7pm...but cometh the hour cometh the landlady who struck up the oven and served us 2 fantastic lamb Sunday dinners... we're are eternally grateful 👏🏻👏🏻♥️ Big shout out to the guy serving too.... lovely people.. The atmosphere was great the food ever better.

I've been going there for many years and never did a review....I started to have guilt feelings as to why ...well I just couldn't let it go any longer... the pub is well kept clean and has a very warm inviting feeling beautifully situated outdoor garden along the canal..I slways eat there and have to say their food is on par with top starring hotels...their friendliness is warm and inviting and they certainly value their customers...its an independent pub run by a very caring family headed by Sue...children and dogs are welcome .and they have some serious live entertainment and fun karaoke nights on Fridays...Clive is the karaoke fun entertainment man ...go on give it a try... but be warned you won't want to go elsewhere...its been my pleasure to share this with anyone reading this...my thanks to Everyone at the General Elliot Pub.🍾🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎤🫶

I travel down from Chester and use the hotel opposite to sleep but I always use this pub. The staff, food and regulars are always very welcoming and very enjoyable. Thank you and I'll be back again soon

Nice comfy pub, right on the Grand Union Canal. Open mic nights are entertaining and I am glad I went. The staff are an attentive and the other "punters" are an interesting, friendly, bunch. Inside or canal side the service is great. It was a great pub for a summer evening. We still enjoy our visits to "The General", even in the winter! Dinners and Sunday lunch cannot be beaten for quality or price, great value.

Went to see Paul Michaels and a meal . Very good pub meal , but better still the entertainer. Very good night out . If you like around singers this is the man to see, 🤓

The four of us went for a canal walk along Grand Union Canal on 27th January 2024. We ended up having lunch at The General Eliott pub next to the canal. A very kind boat owner had suggested that we might wish to try The General Eliott, we decided we would. Not disappointed at all. It got more and more busy. Obviously a popular venue.

Piping-hot sausage and mash, with a generous supply of veg - perfect for a cold day! And great that I could bring my dog too. All much enjoyed - including the pint of Tribute! Highly recommended!

Nice canal-side pub. Seating outside at the back and a small car park. Food is good and friendly staff. Breakfast is excellent and well priced. Much better than what is on Uxbridge high street. BT Sport is back 👍🏽

Can honestly say that my Ribeye steak was one of the best I've ever had. Compliments to the chef. Staff were really friendly and efficient. Despite it being a busy Saturday night they were attentive and really couldn't have asked for better service. Will definitely be back.... thank you

Cool place, nice choice of beers, good burgers just near a little channel. Was perfect to chill afterwork with this heatwave !

It's a decent pub for a post work pint. It's a deceptively pretty location. From the front just a boozer on a road. The back though, little tranquil spot of times from old. A worthy stop for boaters

This is a great pub on the outskirts of Uxbridge but still a short walk from the town centre. Good choice of beer with three real ales and really tasty and good value food. Ideally placed for the nearby Premier Inn. A canal side setting and a pleasant garden. The side pocket for a toad from Tring brewery was wonderful.

Food and service was excellent. Paid the bill 10% service charge is added to the bill there is no mention of this on the bill, I then gave them my blue light card so 15% should have been taken off. I paid my bill total of £93.00. When I got home I worked my bill out to be £83.60 for the food so if you add the service charge of 10% that is £8.36 so my bill should have been £91.96 less 15% which was never taken off so on that principle I will never be returning.

Such good food and great value! Family of 4 and we enjoyed a nice meal here yesterday and it’s got a great vibe about the place. Good little kids area aswell

What a great pub! Difficult to find a nice pub in Uxbridge, this one is a must visit. Home cooked pub food to a great standard, an extensive canalside seating area, Pleasant/ attentive staff and to top it all off, live music!!! We visited (staying in premier inn under a minute's walk away) on a Thursday for work. There was a house band who played a few great songs but the 'open mic night' on Thursdays was fantastic. If you're staying in the Prem Inn or anywhere in Uxbridge, forget the boring beefeater or any old chain pub/restaurant.....make your way here and you won't be disappointed. Will be going back next week for sure!!!

Good pub by the side of the Grand Union Canal (and the London Loop) about 10 minutes walk from Uxbridge Station. Three cask beers on handpump when I visited. Lots of canalside seating some of it covered. A lovely spot to watch red kites circling overhead! Ironically, the pub is named after the teetotaller who defended Gibraltar from the Spanish in the late 18th century.

A friendly and picturesque pub and resteraunt on the path of the Grand Union Canal offering hot and cold snacks with a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. From a personal perspective, I had the best chips ever here and a perfect summer watering hole.

They keep their real ales tip top. Tribute is excellent.

It has a good atmosphere and they do a really nice food especially the Sunday roast. It sells out very fast so it is best to book ahead of time especially if your are more than a few of you to eat as table space is at a premium lol. Very busy pub at the weekend and any time the sun is out.

It's a nice pub, we went for Sunday roast and the meat was crumbling apart, not in slices and swimming in loads of gravy which was too much. Service isn't great as ordered drinks to begin with and waited half an hour and they still hadn't arrived, so much so that my partner had to go to the bar to get the drinks himself, and they had the cheek to charge 10% Service charge....Service needs to be addressed. This was our first and last visit.....

Really enjoyable evening. The karioke was excellent . Hope to go back when down this way

It has a nice side of the canal view. The food is tasty, but a bit pricey compared to others in the area. I ordered the special "Salmon in Cheese Sauce Roast" and it was reused from another dish, as I had pasta leftovers in the sauce. We arrived at 13:00. The server gave us a table and told us that we had to leave by 15:00. We were fine with this, but he kept rushing us for ordering and eat, to the point of trying to take away my wife's plate while she was still eating. We ended up leaving at 14:00. understandably, that was booked and we did not have a booking, that is why we accepted the deadline but rushing the people is not the way. This should be communicated to the waitperson, as it will influence the visitor's perspective.

Very nice Guinness, he had three each in the end. Dog friendly too which was appreciated!

This is a lovely pub in a lovely location. Staff are super friendly and the food is very good. There's good parking and you can even pull up a boat, if that's your style, along the canal that's right by the beer garden. Highly recommended!

Nice pub,nice location, food not so great.Sunday lunch served in a bowl way too much gravy everything went to mush,driest beef I think I have ever had , seemed to be prepacked beef in gravy , Yorkshire puddings literally biscuit size and just as flat. Not nice. Would try again but not on a Sunday.

Lovely little pub on the canal. Not visited for years but took the parents while I was back in the area. We went for lunch and the food was good pub food. Lots of outdoor seating when the weather is nice with a little children's area. There is a fence to keep the children safe from the water. I reasonable prices and have a car park so you don't have to try find somewhere outside as most of the surrounding area is permits. Will visit again. The pub was clean and the staff were lovely and friendly.
