Wanted to go here for ages, average food certainly not the best in Brighton. Very expensive for what it was, didn't like the atmosphere at all. Very disappointed 😞 WOW WOW WOW. IVE COME BACK TO MY REVIEW AFTER AN AWFUL REPLY TO MY PARTNER. Where shall I start, hard dry potato's, the pork belly was so fatty, half was given to the dog, the rest left, the veg was just cabbage and carrots, the Yorkshire pudding was over cooked and like cardboard. I ordered cauiflower chesse, this was burnt. The chicken and gravy was very nice so not all bad. But after leaving a review to be attacked and accuses of being rude and basically troublesome to the staff is totally unprofessional, my partner wanted a tea, which they don't serve, so don't bother asking. I left the pub and bought tea bags from the local shop and even gifted them to the pub. Our issues were met with hostity, although we were offered a replacement that was kindly declined and as apparently as way to stop us being rude to the staff my cider was not charged for. SMALL PUB VERY NOISY, certainly not a relaxing meal. I would have left this, but to be told you are extremely rude due to being unhappy with something is an awful response. £45 for 2 average roast and an awful after experience is certainly not worth it. At no point were my partner or myself rude. Awful experience, DONT GO!

Yesterday was one more day of enjoying the cozy, warm, vibrant Geese. This welcoming pub offers everything one needs during a cold Sunday afternoon—fantastic food, a warm atmosphere, and outstanding service. As always, I had the beef roast, and it was simply excellent. The beef was cooked to tender, melt-in-your-mouth perfection, paired beautifully with rich, flavorful gravy. The roast came with crispy-yet-fluffy roasted potatoes, tender greens, tangy red cabbage, and a perfectly puffed Yorkshire pudding—every bite was amazing. The broccoli cheese is consistently an absolute must-have—creamy, cheesy, and wonderfully indulgent. Beyond the food, the ambience at The Geese is warm, lively, and full of character—the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. The staff makes me feel special with their friendly and attentive hosting. Despite being busy, they ensured everything was just right. For me The Geese is a must for an unforgettable Sunday roast.

Have always heard very good things about the roasts here and it did not disappoint!! Probably the best broccoli cheese I’ve ever had, service and atmosphere also fantastic, I will be back!

Celebrated a birthday for a Sunday roast yesterday with a group of 8. All really good roasts, veggie wellington and pork belly were the standouts! Cauli cheese may be one of the best in Brighton

Visited yesterday evening to meet friends for sausages and mash. I’m veggie and there were actually a selection of veggie options which was refreshing (usually I’m used to ‘picking’ from one option). I went with the cheese & onion sausages, the mustard and dill mash and the onion gravy which was all fab. Staff were so friendly and the food was very quick to come out. Will definitely be returning to try out some different combinations!

Having a severe nut allergy, I find it very difficult to confidently eat away from home. Even where I can safely eat, the menu options can be limited. This was so far from the case at The Geese. The menu does not use any nuts and I loved being able to mix and match items off the menu to create the exact meal I wanted to eat. The kitchen staff were incredible at accommodating my allergies and dietary requirement and went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe and comfortable eating with them. They do serve nuts behind the bar as snacks, but offered to remove these before my visit. The food was brilliant, the beer options splendid, and the staff friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was lovely, food arrived quickly with no mix ups (no mean feat for a holiday party of 15 odd people!) and we had a wonderful time. I highly recommend visiting The Geese, especially if you have allergies or dietary requirements. I’m really excited to visit again. A big thank you to Emerald, Antonis, and the rest of The Geese team for being so kind and welcoming ❤️

Great food and great ambience. Everyone recommends it, and there’s reason for it. The staff are a great too The selection of food is not wide, but you should know and check before you go.

We were 6 people that went for a Sunday Roast to The Geese after recommendations. We all rated it 6/10 or 5/10 overall. Definitely not the best roast in Brighton. The atmosphere of the pub itself is lovely. Would definitely go back for a drink but maybe not a roast. When we ordered no one told us there will be such a long wait, which often pubs and restaurants tell their customers to prepare them, but unfortunately nothing was said to us. We got Chicken, Beef, Lamb and the Veggie Wellington option. Out of those, the chicken and the beef were the best. We also got cauliflower and cheese and also broccoli and cheese which was burnt but it was then replaced and it was average tasting. Now all 6 of us agreed that there was a lack of veggies on our plates. The roasted potatoes somehow were both crispy and stale at the same time and a bit hard on the inside and the plates didn’t have an equal amount of potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding looked like a muffin and it was hard and cold when the food was served. The gravy on our plates was some of the tastiest gravy ever! Overall we waited almost an hour for our food. I wouldn’t mind if the communication from the staff was there as sometimes tasty things take time to get prepared but this was an average roast that confused me.

Christmas dinner 2024 - what a wonderful experience - great service, great food and great atmosphere. Personal touches were very much appreciated - would definitely recommend and book again if in the area. Many thanks

The best Guinness in Brighton in my opinion - cracking bangers and mash too!

A fantastic little pub, very cosy with a great atmosphere. The food was exceptional and it's good to see a speciality which offers such a great variety. Need to go back and try other mixes of mashed and gravy!

Fantastic pub and atmosphere. The food was top rate when it was eventually served. The delay in service seemed largely owing to a lady server with pink hair, who seemed unable to deal with the public or simple tasks. She dragged down the experience for us.

Great little venue. Each time it's been busy and the staff are really friendly. I'm yet to try the food but it looks and smells delicious! Great veggie and vegan options on the menu.

Came for a roast dinner which was delightful, food was great and would really recommend. Unfortunately our experience was tainted by a rather aggressive waitress. Upon arrival we attempted to order drinks from the bar, however my friend was pushed by a member of staff and told that he was in the way. We expressed we were at the bar to order drinks, after which she stated we were in her way. She later served us our food in a cold and unpleasant manner which was a shame considering all other staff were extremely lovely and accommodating.

Loved the veggie Sunday Roast here! With hearty vegetarian and vegan options, there’s something for everyone. Loved the atmosphere and every bite. I will be back soon for sure!

Sunday roast booking today. Lovely atmosphere and seating was spacious. The menu was varied and even Vegan choices. I would have given 5 stars to the individual staff who where lovely .The only let down .. we had to wait an hour for food which was abit annoying as we only had the table for 2hrs so we had to leave soon after finishing our food..no time for desert!!! Saying this i will return as the food was fab !

We were really disappointed. After hearing great things about The Geese and their Sunday roasts, I was really excited to bring my mum for her birthday lunch. When we were initially seated we were asked if we had pre-ordered which we hadn't as there had been no communication throughout the booking process that this was a) necessary or b) an option, and were told therefore that there was no roast chicken available - not a huge problem but a bit frustrating. We booked for 3pm, ordered by 3.10 and were still waiting for our food at 4pm. This wouldn't have been a problem had we been told there was a big wait on food but nothing was communicated. At 4pm I asked one waitress how much longer it would be and was initially told that as they hadn't taken the order they couldn't tell me (??) and so when I then went to ask at the bar was told "if I was having to ask it's probably on it's way" - with no further follow up or any effort to actually find out from the kitchen where our food was, which we found incredibly rude. When the food did finally arrive over an hour after ordering, it was pretty average. The meat was cold, and both the carrots and potatoes were undercooked. The broccoli cheese was good but this unfortunately wasn't enough to turn the experience around for us. I understand that the pub is popular, but it kind of felt like there was an element of complacency and for the best part of £20 for a roast (with a 'best roast' accolade) I would have expected a much better overall experience. Unlikely to come back again.

Not great. Service was lacking and food was awful. Potatoes were undercooked, Yorkshire puddings were rock solid, and the carrot looked like it had been plucked out of the ground and placed straight onto the plate. The server didn’t know what food he was bringing out. The vegetarian Wellington pastry was raw at the bottom and pork belly was rubbery with more fat than pork. Chicken was on the menu but not available which is a surprise as it’s such a standard dish. Over priced for what you get and wouldn’t recommend it at all!

Visitado a los 14 años. 30 hoy, con tres amigos. Tuvimos 3 asados de remolacha vegana y un asado de cerdo. Lamentablemente fue una experiencia decepcionante en general. Nadie nos dijo que necesitábamos pedir en el bar, pero incluso después de que pedimos, tomó casi una hora para nuestra comida llegar. Cuando llegó fue terrible - el cerdo 'crepitar' era masticable como el caucho, la pastelería en los wellingtons veganos estaba crudo por debajo, los pudines Yorkshire eran duros, secos y planos y las zanahorias estaban simultáneamente mal cocido pero quemado en partes, y seco y masticable de sentarse alrededor. Le dimos esto al camarero, pero no se ofreció remedio. Era caro encima de todo esto. No recomiendo.

Went for sunday roast on the basis of the reviews on here and came away bit disappointed. Is a lovely little pub and staff were very friendly however lunch arrived was luke warm, the roasties were very dry and the beef rump was really tough even for a rump. I gave up trying to cut through it in the end and left half of it. Perhaps just a tad too busy for the chef or eye off the ball on quality control. Shame as I was starving :(

Después de escuchar tantas cosas buenas sobre la comida aquí estábamos esperando grandes cosas. Las primeras impresiones no fueron grandes, sin embargo - cuando estalló a los baños muy sucios de telarañas y luego mientras esperaba la comida / bebidas que estábamos congelando. Había servicio por parte del personal pero no contacto visual o sonrisa. La comida parecía excelente - porciones muy grandes, especialmente la carne y el pudín Yorkshire. Todo sabía muy bien, aunque las patatas más pequeñas serían más crujientes.

Ok , the Sunday lunch at that place was one of the best I’ve ever eaten the pork belly was out of this world ! The staff were lovely and a real credit to the pub. Can’t wait to go again x

After waiting for an hour for our food, we asked the woman behind the bar what had happened to our food and she was quite unapologetic and just responded with ‘oh it didn’t go through’ and that was all (she was the one that took the order btw). After that, the man behind the bar came and apologised and offered us a free drink each which was nice and the food came about 15 minutes after that. Once we finished our food, we went to pay and once again had a negative experience with the woman serving who rudely said ‘if you’re not going to pay straight away then do it later’ only because we wanted to check if we had been charged the right amount - I guess we’ll never find out now. Putting that aside, food was lovely and all the other staff were pleasant.

The service was terrible. The lady behind the bar was openly rude to us. Nice food though and great spot.

One of the best pub roast dinners I have ever tasted … Almost don’t want to write this in case it becomes too busy ! A hidden gem for sure.

Roast is hit and miss. Have probably had a roast there maybe 4 times and sometimes it’s great and other times it’s mediocre. Last time they forgot sauce I requested. Though appreciate staff were pretty busy. Also found the price pretty expensive. It’s ok but not gold star in my honest opinion.

I had an amazing time at The Geese—easily one of the best pubs I’ve visited! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a perfect balance of a lively vibe and a cozy, relaxed setting. It’s the kind of place where you can comfortably spend hours. The drink selection is top-notch, with a fantastic range of local and international beers, as well as an impressive variety of spirits and cocktails. The bartenders are not only friendly but also really know their stuff, making great recommendations based on what you’re in the mood for. The food is exceptional for a pub. I tried the veggie burger, crushed potatos and it was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The menu has something for everyone, including some great vegetarian and vegan options. Service was impeccable; even though the pub was busy, the staff were attentive, quick, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure everyone was having a good time. Overall, The Geese exceeded all my expectations. It’s the perfect spot for a night out with friends, a casual drink, or even a full meal. I’ll definitely be returning soon—this place is a gem!

We had bangers and mash today with an amazing pint of guinness, bar guy really friendly and helpful, food was absolutely amazing, hidden gem in Brighton. Well worth the visit.

One word comes to mind to review the Geese and that's homely, and if I'm honest that's what everyone looks for in a bit of pub grub. If you're looking for a good pint of Guinness with Bangers and mash I don't think I could advise a better spot in Brighton. You and your stomach will walk away happy!

Booked a table for 12.30 for Sunday lunch. There was a little sign on our table saying my name, followed by "12.30/2/3.30". I assumed this was my table booked from 12.30-3.30 for 2 people. We ordered our food which arrived promptly. Both "giant Yorkies" were small and completely burned to a crisp. They tasted pretty bad. The roasted carrots were pretty much raw and very hard. The meal was very disappointing. After we finished, the waitress said "the next people have come for your table now." I asked her to explain. She said that the next people had booked the table for 2pm. I was in disbelief. It's a pub. We had expected to have a drink afterwards and we were being pushed out for the next people. What's more, it was only 1.45. We paid up and left. The Geese is obviously prioritising getting as many people in and out as possible, maximising profits, rather than customer experience. I wasn't aware that was their policy, but it's a pretty poor policy. How on earth they got "best roast in Brighton" I will never know but I won't be going back

One of the best roast dinners we've ever had! Tasty gravy, generous portions, good variety of veg and whether veggie sausages, chicken or pigs in blankets or pork, all were fabulous. Busy place. Not surpriding. Hope to visit again when in Brighton. Thanks to the cooks and all bar staff.

Really great roast dinner, especially the potatoes. Had multiple different meat and veggie/vegan options so would be a great call for groups of friends. Clearly very popular as each table was booked multiple times during the day, so would recommend booking in advance. Service was quick and staff were friendly. Definitely going back in the future, maybe to try their sausage and mash!

food took about 40 mins to come out, which was a bit of downer! was lovely when it arrived and well cooked, but slightly on the cold-side but tasted great nonetheless. staff were lovely, drinks well priced and good atmosphere! would come back again but probably not for food!

Sausage, mash and gravy was the best meal I've had in a while. Cracking vibe and a surprise visit by an Irish folk band. All in all, spot on.

Celebrated my birthday here on Mother’s Day, the roast dinner and side dishes were delicious. Good selection of wines and beers. Friendly efficient staff, great atmosphere. Thank you for looking after us and making our day perfect. I look forward to our next visit. Best wishes Wayne

One of the easiest 5’s of all time. Great atmosphere, amazing food that you can customise to your liking. What else could you ask for.

Planning the year always goes smoother with the BEST Roast @thegeesebrighton Massive love to all the staff and cooks... it was as dreamy as it looks... My favourite was the beetroot wellington, but the beef was cooked to perfection. Very authentic, homemade vibe but Michelin tasting. With lots of tasty veggie/vegan spins on classic sunday sides. Not to mention the Massive yorkies, with a smouldering onion gravey which was to die for. Roast potatoes were crispy soft and everything was seasoned to perfection. I would suggest a touch of honey on the carrots when roasted, however, I could never make a better roast myself! 😋 Affordable, brilliant and safe atmosphere and very genuinely brilliant staff. Very attentive with gentle but spot on music to soundtrack a relaxing and taste bud satisfying Sunday. 10/10 would go again. From Dates, to Family gatherings. Everyone is welcome. We even made some new friends! ☆☆☆☆☆

As a Brightonian, I can confidently say that this is up there with being one of my fav pubs in Brighton! Great cosy atmosphere, with classic Hanover community vibes. Plus great bangers and Mash!

Having searched for the best roast in Brighton we headed here and bagged the last free table. What a lovely cheerful welcome we received. Food delicious with a simple and inclusive menu for all. Loved it a good honest roast. The clientele and staff were all lovely, we will be back ❤️

It’s so nice to finally go to a pub restaurant where the staff are genuinely happy that you’re there and want you to have a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious - it’s genuinely the best roast I’ve had in Brighton or London. Every element of it was great. We had 2 roast beef’s, pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. Absolutely loved it - such a great experience.

Had the vegan bangers and mash lastnight. Abosely amazing. I got the Sussex vegan sausage with incredible mustard mash and guiness gravy. Honestly the best bangers and mash I've ever had. Would highly recommend getting a side of greens as well. Thanks a lot and you'll be seeing more of me Stuffing my face soon.

Amazing range of sausage and mash - I had veggie sausages and they were utterly delicious. Good vegan options too. Friendly courteous staff and nice atmosphere. It was a Friday night and busy so book I'd say book you're a big party.

We’ve been waiting to try out The Geese for weeks and it certainly didn’t disappoint us. Lovely friendly bar staff and the waiters , who were also super busy were very efficient too. The roast beef was superb, roast potatoes were dark & crispy and the Yorkshire pudding was fantastic. Daughter said her veggie sausage was also excellent, great vegetables too. Too full up to try dessert but we have rebooked to try out the sausage & mash menu.

Visited the Geese on Sunday afternoon to have their “award winning roast “ and my honest opinion is that the roast is far from “award winning “. Long wait for a table however we were looking forward to the meal. The beef was decent portion but undercooked and chewy the gravy was runny with bits floating ,the red cabbage was cold probably forgot to heat it up in the microwave and the Yorkshire pudding was absolutely mediocre. The roasties were delicious I will give you my compliments for that. I myself am a chef and I wouldn’t serve this plate to a guest. Just advise to the chef if you are claiming that you are serving “award winning roast dinner “ make sure you know how to cook it.

Went on Sunday for a roast which was fantastic and the beef was cooked to perfection. Very busy popular place so you need to book a table well in advance! My inly complaint is I would have liked more potatoes and they had run out of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese.

Booked a roast, had to book a month in advance, supposedly the best place in Brighton, the pub is to small for the amount of covers, all you hear is people saying sorry as literally if you move you bump into someone. Arrived at 4pm to be told half of the menu is unavailable - out of belly pork, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets (so no sides)- told I should have pre-ordered. Had the roast chicken was nice, the roast potatoes were pale and didn't look roasted more boiled and shown the oven for a few minutes, cabbage dry and obviously kept hot in the oven as had burn crispy bits. For £19 was basically a disappointment - if you know that several have pre-booked food surely you would get more stuff in to cook for the other bookings you have taken. Have had far better Brighton roasts, how this won best roast is a mystery. Service wasn't good, not given cutlery when ordering or when food was delivered - had to ask at the bar. Condiments are in little jars on the table but we're obviously left from previous people on table who had dipped gravy stained knives or folks in them.

Unpretentious but stylish pub playing some great esoteric ole Blues shouters on the hifi. Great selection of bangers and mash to eat. Good cider and choice of spirits. I'd go again for sure.

It's a nice place, we went for a Sunday roast and they ran out of food. So we only got meat, potatoes (which were slightly under done) and a Yorkshire pudding. They did give us a discount, which was appreciated. However, for it wasn't worth how long we waited and the overall cost of the meal. For a few drinks it's a lovely venue, management could be more organised as we had booked weeks in advance.

been for a bday, it was busy so we did not mind the wait, but then we got completely raw meat (we ordered Sunday roast - beef) asked medium well done but it was BLUE! we had to give it back twice but it felt like they just out in in the microwave for a min... the veggies were then cold and it was all such a dissapointment. The chicken 2 of my friends ordered was pink. Usually these guys are the best but maybe they changed the chef.,,

Fantastic Sunday roast - super generous portions, great cauliflower cheese, gravy and homemade Yorkshire's. Good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic spirits and beers; even on draught. Their bangers and mash menu looked amazing too. Got really busy for the Sunday roast though so definitely advise booking.

One of the best Bangers & Mash I had in England. It's a bit out of the was but definitely worth it! You have a great selection of different sausages (incl. vegeterian and vegan options), mash potatoes and gravy. I went for the Pork&Chilli ones which had a good amount of spice. The interior is really nice and cozy with a little fire place and classic decoration on the tables. The barman was super friendly and helpful (also quite easy on the eyes - if that is of importance to you). Would come back to Brighton just for this!
