Wed seen the geese and fountain advertised on the motor home park for night site...what a lovely place. Some mixed reviews on here..but our experience was delightful..we had our two dogs with us,and got there about 5pm..was made to feel very welcome from the start..we happily sat on the couches at the rear of the pub as we wanted a few drinks before we ate...Nick was struggling with issues in the kitchen we where informed but we were happy to wait till mid evening before we had our food..Summer and her team were very efficient and super friendly..even though there were some awkward customers in the dinning area, we thought they handled it very well...We had complimentary bread before our starters came..then my hubby had the fishcakes to start. I had the pork belly pieces, both very good..the mains we had were Steak n kidney pudding, and I had the Venison which was amazing, so tender and lean..both came with a nice selection of veg, and we ordered homemade onion rings as a side!! Beautiful, we were a bit to full to manage any desert this time...we slept in our campervan, very quiet night..and a lovely secret garden round the back to give the dogs a sniff round in the morning to....well done Nick and your lovely staff if were passing that way again. Wed definitely go back...

Quintessential cozy pub experience! Located in a storybook landscape… British countryside magic. Nick, the owner and chef cooked us an amazing dinner! Our server, Summer was a superstar - smiling and very attentive! the thing I loved the most about the experience was that they did not rush us, and they let us sit there for hours, having a great family reunion! They had some nice vegan and vegetarian options that were absolutely delicious! All home cooked. They were also pub classics in and very tasty desserts! This is also a bed-and-breakfast, so you can spend a few days enjoying the countryside! great place to do some hiking! That works up an appetite, which, of course they can accommodate!

We have passed this pub on our way to Grantham so many times and always wanted to go in so we booked and decided to treat our Aunt. When we arrived, before being shown to a table, we were asked what drinks we wanted. We were then told to sit anywhere. It was a Saturday night. It should have been busy but it wasn’t. There was absolutely no atmosphere. It was cold and we were offered a heater that didn’t arrive After waiting for ages we went to the bar to order. After about 20 minutes we received bread which was delicious Then about an hour after ordering we received our starters. Starters were ok. Nothing special but different and we enjoyed it. Then an hour and 45 minutes after ordering we received our mains. Two of which were returned, the third just edible. The young waitress was very apologetic and said we could either take it off the bill OR have a free dessert. We choose to have it taken off the bill The chips were raw Carrots were like rocks Sausages so overcooked that they were no longer meat. Fish pie was dry and bland The young waitresses were inexperienced. There was a couple on the table behind us and a lone gentleman. There was not really an excuse for the length of time we waited for food. It was all very disappointing. The place looks lovely from outside. There was a wood burner that could have been on and would have added warmth and atmosphere. It really needs some ambiance. Someone with a bit of oomph behind the bar and a speedier service.

We had our first visit here at the Geese and fountain for Sunday lunch, our server was very helpful ,the small touch of warm bread and butter was a lovely thing. I Chose the pork shoulder my husband the beef ,it’ was a very generous helping and to cook that pork shoulder so tender with the crackling was a joy to eat ,my husband enjoyed his beef, there were more veg than you could shake a stick at ,with the addition of braised baked creamy leeks lovely, the desserts sounded so lovely although we were sufficiently full we had to try , I had the rum and pineapple sticky puddding , a real art to cook this nowadays,my husband had the rhubarb and custard pavlova again a real skill to poach rhubarb like this so it is still firm ,the meringue was lovely too .Left truly satisfied, hoping to come back and maybe try a lunch in the week or a breakfast .This is a hidden gem and need all the support they can get ,these pubs are so worth saving lWe thank you ,you have. I went for a Gluten Free pulled pork, stuffing and apple sauce sandwich served with salad and chips. Simple you would have thought. What I got was a chunky, fatty, sliced piece of pork with some weird stuffing and the bread not buttered, but with some kind of brown salty paste that tasted really horrible. No apple sauce. Salad drench in some sort of oily dressing- again awful. The bread was as dry as sandpaper with no flavour. The only saving grace was the fries. I’m coeliac too hence the reason for the GF choice . Sadly and although I only ate a small amount of the food I did react and have awful stomach ache and still felt unwell the next day. I’ve never tasted something so awful for such a long time., My daughter went for a cheese and chutney sandwich with salad and fries. The chess was thicker than the bread, salad again dressed for a night out dripping in dressing and fries . I very nearly complained, I normally wouldn’t hesitate, but the member of staff that served me was so lovely I didn't have the heart to ruin his day. I left our table with the food hardly touched paid the bill at he bar. It’s clear that they need to money, we were the only two people in the place on a Friday lunch time… the atmosphere was not welcoming and it was cold to sit in. We were so disappointed despite being so hopeful, should have walked in and walked straight back out again.

Good selection of beer and wines at reasonable prices. We found the staff very friendly. The whole 3 course served in about two hours, which my wife had no problem with. We don't go out for a meal to be rushed through as quick as the staff can. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Thank you to all who work there.

We visited as a group of 12, booked in April and pre-orders given to restaurant several days before visit. Service was extremely slow with no apology given. Hot starters served on hot plates on bed of rocket which meant the rocket was completely wilted and inedible. Half of main courses delivered approx 20 minutes before remainder came out. One portion of seabass was so hard it couldn't be cut and was sent back - no replacement as they had run out of seabass. Mushroom Risotto was dry, bland and all stuck together plus mushrooms were bordering on slimy. Chicken curry was bland and pre-cooked shredded chicken - only edible part of dish was poppadom. One burger was dropped as it left kitchen and replacement, although offered to be only a few minutes away, took nearly 30 minutes and bun was rock hard. Roast potatoes on one dish had absolutely no colour to them and looked more like boiled. Two of us didn't even bother to stay for desserts - and refused to pay for main courses. We never really received any apology for the bad service and meals. We were told they had staffing issues, but customers arriving after us ate and left before our main courses even arrived. Sorry, but I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We had a lovely welcome, both on the phone, to check if we could park our motorhome for the night and as we arrived at the bar. The bar and dining areas are sensitively open plan with a bit of privateish space. The light coloured sturdy pine tables and hefty chairs work well with the great textured floor tiles - so not necessarily original but definitely giving the ambience of an old country pub. The menu communicates pub grub but in actual fact the food on your plate is fresh beautifully presented and very tasty. I had the salmon and avocado salad, really lovely locally sourced (from the village) salad leaves, avocado just the right ripeness sitting on top of good smoked salmon. Great contrasts of tastes. Himself had pulled pork, stuffing sandwich with applesauce on the side; oh and the most delicious chips. We succumbed to pudding. My chocolate orange mousse was light and a good balance of bitter and sweet topped with, I think, shreds of crispy crystallised orange peel. He had baked banana in rum with caramelised pecan nuts. I don’t ‘do’ rum but… this pudding was delicious and as a consequence I had pudding envy. Hence 5 stars. Really worth a stop with or without motorhome. We will be back.

We went to'The Geese and Fountain' for dinner for two after reading some very positive reviews on Tripadvisor.First impression: it's in the middle of nowhere, not easy to find in the evening without a Satnav. Nevertheless, it looks nice from the outside and there is plenty of parking space.Ambience: Once you've walked in, you'll find yourself in a relatively large room with about 10/12 tables. The place looks as if it was last renovated about a century ago. The decor is not offensive but there was a dead fly on the window sill as well as a fair amount of dust. Overall, the place felt quite grubby and the ?classical/instrumental music playing in the background was more of a nuisance than anything else.On a positive note, the pub is very dog-friendly and children-friendly. Most of the clientele was represented by families with children and (very well-behaved) dogs!Food: I'll cut to the chase, I just didn't like it. The menu is quite extensive and it features plenty of pub staples like 'pie of the week' or 'eggs and chips'.We both had the calamari for our starter as I wasn't inspired by the soup of the day (leek and potato). We both left most of the calamari. It was plain, chewy, rubbery, presented as pale calamari rings in a pot with onions, peppers and other greens that didn't really go with the calamari. What's worse, it came with a chilly sauce that I found quite sickly. I am sorry to say that it was the worst calamari dish I've ever had and I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you like your calamari battered/breaded. The waitress kindly brought some warm slices of bread with butter for us to eat with our starters. The bread itself was nice and I enjoyed it more than the calamari. After such a bad start, I can't say I was looking forward to the main. We both had the slow roasted duck leg. This was served with salad, roasted peppers, dauphinoise potatoes, roasted mushrooms and possibly a few other unidentifiable vegetables. A small dollop of cranberry jelly accompanied the duck leg.I was pleasantly surprised by the duck itself which tasted far better than our starter. It was well cooked and rather filling as a main. The cranberry jelly was not to my liking as I found the gelatinous texture quite unpleasant and I would've preferred some sort of jus or gravy. I was also puzzled by the fact that they served both salad (cold) and roasted vegetables as a side. A better choice would have been to omit the salad and serve a few more roasted vegetables instead. After our main, we were asked if we wanted dessert. We had to wait a long time to get the dessert menu and then even longer for the waitress to come back to take the order. Not to mention the wait for the desserts to be served. We got to the point where we thought 'why are we even bothering?'. We had two different desserts: white chocolate cheesecake and chocolate ice cream.I was given a very generous portion of cheesecake but it came with a berry compote that was not mentioned on the menu and I found this quite bitter. The cheesecake itself was the right texture with a nice biscuit base and a white chocolate topping that would please most pudding-lovers. I just wish the compote had been served on the side as I didn't want as much on my cheese cake.I did not try the ice cream myself, it looked like straightforward chocolate ice cream ( they had other flavours available).Service: I think this is one of the key points that 'The Geese and Fountain' need to work on. They only had ONE waitress serving all the tables (6 tables, 2 people per table on average). She was lovely, very polite and she did her best to abide by Covid-19 restrictions (wearing a mask, not touching glasses or the card machine directly and there was hand sanitiser on offer at the entrance).Unfortunately, we noticed how everyone was kept waiting for a really long time. At our table, it took long to get the starter, it took even longer to have the main and by the time we got the dessert we were falling asleep. To be avoided if you're in a rush but if you're not bothered about the wait, you should be ok. I've read other reviews for 'The Geese and Fountain' and ultimately it comes down to two issues: the service is too slow and the food is average, some dishes better than others but personally I think you could get much nicer food for the same price (or less) somewhere else!My overall rating would be a 2.5-3/5 because the pub needs to be renovated, the service is too slow, despite staff being very nice, and the food did not live up to my expectations!

The team recently celebrated their 5th year running the pub and it's well deserved, a testament to the hard work they've put into running it in challenging times. The landlord takes great pride in looking after his cask ales which change frequently (most of which come from local breweries), and there is a wide selection of bottled/canned beers, gins, ciders and wine as well. There is something for everyone here. The food is high quality and takes full advantage of local ingredients. Cooked fresh and hand made, the duck fat chips, pies and battered fish are all highlights of the standard menu although the specials also change regularly.Service is well organised, friendly and close-knit. Obviously you can't please everyone, all of the time, and no one is perfect - at least they have the humility to admit that. They also care deeply for their local community and provided crucial services for those in need during the worst of the pandemic. There are often small events like miniature beer festivals, gin festivals, live music and comedy nights. I hope they come out of 2020 stronger, and with a greater following than before, because they truly deserve it.

Negatives:- chicken curry; caution should be applied before ordering this dish. -service can be a bit back to front. We called in here tonight for our dinner after reading good reviews, ordered our drinks then looked at the menu,I decided to have pie of the week with goose fat chips and seasonal vegetables,my husband decided on a vale plowmans, the pie I was told was Honey and Sausage, what a strange combination,I didn't fancy that with veg and chips,so asked for sausages,we found a table and were given warm bread and olives, the bread was that hard I told my husband to leave it before he broke his teeth, the meal came out after about 30 minutes,my seasonal vegetables were green cabbage and broard beans, the cabbage stalks were that hard I couldn't chew them, the waitress/ bar staff asked if everything was okay,I told her the cabbage was hard, she asked if I wanted peas instead,so I said yes, after a while they arrived I had nearly finished my dinner by that point, the chips were frozen chunky chips and the gravy tasted like soup. The whole pub looked grubby and where our table was there was food stains on the wall,no paper either in the ladies loo, went to pay our bill and waited for the internet to be connected for our card to work,I told the bar staff I was losing the will to live, our receipt came on a saucer with two supposed to be geese ginger biscuits, not in wrappers and put on with the bar staffs hand,no thank you very much, they were left on the saucer on the bar.

Spent two (non-consecutive) nights bed and breakfast here on way to and then from Scottish Borders. It was about halfway on journey and only a few miles off the A1 road. A couple with 4 small dogs who slept in 2 crates in room overnight. The Trevi room on the ground floor was sufficiently spacious and comfortable. Room door about 10 feet from the pub door so very convenient for (excellent) breakfast. The menu also tempted us to have dinner there for 2 nights. Good food nicely served. Staff very friendly and accommodating. e.g. a special dish which sounded very attractive to my wife but was lamb (she is vegetarian) was offered in an improvised "off the menu" vegetarian version. Minor menu adaptations to breakfast were cheerfully provided. Menu items appeared to be locally sourced wherever possible. Unusual local draught beers and ciders were available in the bar. Bed was comfortable and clean and shower provided plenty of hot water with good pressure. Would definitely stay again.

I had to travel to the area on family business and I selected this accomodation. Good location, nice clean room, well decorated. Good evening meal and a great selection of beers in a nice country pub environment.

A warm welcome as we walked into this nicely furnished and well appointed bar and restaurant was followed by verbal and written indications that the menus were well sourced from good and mainly local sources. Picked from the main and special menus whilst enjoying a very nice real IPA. The Malaysian Indian burger of the week was very tasty and battered onion rings first class. Everything else was great too. Meanwhile a lively and very well done gin cocktail festival was getting going at the bar!

Called here by complete accident yesterday. Very welcoming pub, possibly a little dated for some but very friendly and well laid out. There was a good choice of food options along with sufficient vegetarian offerings. Dog friendly. The meal was not over facing in portion size, well presented and piping hot when served. I had the sausage and mash which was scrummy, duck fat chips are a must if you are a big eater as they are a sensation- so light, fluffy and crispy!!!

Fantastic fun last Friday evening, listening and dancing to a very entertaining band, who played some popular classics from the 60's. 70's and 80's. Food was ok .... pork sliders were on the dry side, though everyone else enjoyed their choices. great choice of craft beers!

Overnight cycling break in November. Basic rooms but a warm welcome, excellent food, a log fire and well kept cask ales. This pub is in a beautiful part of the country close to Belvoir Castle and Rutland Water. Well worth a visit.

Booked all 7 rooms and dinner for a group of 11 cyclists from Tamworth Cycling Club. Nick took the whole booking on trust and he could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. Rooms were comfortable and included filter coffee, fresh milk and goose shaped biscuits. Dinner was delicious and breakfast equally good. The beer experts were very impressed with what was on offer and the armchairs and roaring log fire were exactly what was needed after a 65 mile bike ride. Would highly recommend.

On my way to work stopped at this beautiful example of a country pub for breakfast. The landlord was very welcoming from the get go. Took my order and let me have a choice from the remaining tables available. He always had a smile on his face and the ambience was relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. The breakfast that arrived was cooked to perfection and I was offered a choice of sauce which came in pots, which I like more than if I'd been given a squeeze or glass bottle. They were very accommodating, even if I did tweak the listed menu as I don't like tomatoes at breakfast time! Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend this lovely pub and definitely recommend the breakfast! Beautiful!

We were supposed to stay 2 nights but couldn't wait to leave early after the first night. The whole place had a horrible smell and the room was absolutely disgusting. I couldn't use the shower it was so bad. The towels probably had been white but now a disgusting grey. Our booking showed a garden view. Ours was a loft room with sloping ceiling, over the bed, so if I stood on tip toes I could just about see the car park from the velux window. I left with swollen sore eyes due to my dust allergy.

I have nothing good to say about this place, there were 22 of us celebrating a 60th birthday, we had already ordered our food in advance so there wouldn't be any confusion.

first time here. very spacious old pub in the village centre. really nice Sunday roast including stuff for veggies and kids. but also the most massive selection of beers available - easily a couple of hundred different bottled and canned beers from around the world. but beers on tap are excellent too. well recommended!

What an amazing place. The owners are doing such a great job here. Obviously the beer is amazing - well kept taps, and a great crafty bottle menu. The food is also amazing, great home cooking/real pub food. You can really taste the love that's gone into it. Best calamari we've ever had possibly! We stayed the night, after drinking much beer, and enjoying a lovely evening meal. We booked three rooms, for three generations and they were very accommodating. The breakfast was also really lovely. Great coffee. It goes without saying (but I will say it!), that the service and knowledgeable staff we're also excellent. Myself and my partner have already booked our next stay, and we're planning on trying the Sunday roast as a family soon too. It's going to be our new local... even if it is a 40 minutes away!

Excellent food, sourced locally, & free range. It was a refreshing change to know exactly where our food had come from and it was also very good value for money. Delicious homemade bread, with oil, balsamic, salt & pepper, chilli and butter. A perfect start to a perfect meal. Welcoming and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. The children loved it and so did we! Will be back again soon, can’t wait to try Sunday lunch...

We held a university reunion with a party of 8 here over the bank holiday staying in the B&B; - which is basic but comfortable and good value for money. We were able to liaise with the landlord in advance to request a celebratory 7 course tasting menu for our group one evening (£37.50 per person). I have to say that it was outstanding! There was a substantial amount of food and also 4 tastings of beer, one non alcoholic pop and the pub made parsnip wine. All courses showcased locally sourced produce in dishes that elevated typical humble pub grub! One in our group is dairy intolerant and the chef was able to accomodate and match special dishes for the person that complimented the menu the rest of us ate.

This is our favourite place for a family Sunday lunch. The meal comes already plated up. Large portions, a proper Sunday lunch. Cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes are amazing. Can be quite a wait for food to arrive but well worth it. Just one thing missing and that is there is no stuffing with the roast pork.

I thought it was really nice! Very surprised to be able to get in for a Sunday lunch with such short notice. I enjoyed the deep fried cammembert followed by the roast chicken & delicious vegetables - huge portions - 2 courses around £15 but the wine was a bit pricey but did not put me off buying and drinking it! I'd go again - two ladies behind the bar provided attentive service. I don't r eally like "carvery" style sunday lunch places so this was perfect me - thank you Geese & Fountain - will be seeing you again!

I felt very welcome and comfortable here. Stayed for a work trip to Grantham. It would be worth coming here for any one of the very tasty food (I recommend the hotpot), the beers (so many) or the great welcome and comfortable nights sleep. They have a beer garden running down to a brook and a stage, and even a free lending library in the pub. I was alone and chatted with the locals and the staff. I felt well looked after and at home. I'll be back with my family, and thankyou.

Never been to this pub under present owners but on a very cold and snowy Monday we decided to give it a go , my husband , son and daughter in law . The menu is vast and we were spoilt for choice but eventually the Boyd had the breakfast and we had the burgers, was supposed to be with Stilton but happily changed it to cheddar for us . We had a few drinks while we waited and to be honest I don’t mind the wait if the food is worth it . Well we weren’t disappointed we all were very pleased , I had a great burger with really great chips and amazing onion rings. The side salad with capers were a nice interesting change . The breakfasts were just as good , we are coming back on Saturday night as we were that impressed .

Our group of ladies were well treated ( one of us arrived very late and there was no fuss to make us order without her). In fact, service was excellent. We all ate different dishes and all enjoyed our meals. We now think this may also be the Christmas venue for our get- together!
