My partner and I have visted gatehouse many times since opening, it is fair to say it is one of our favourite places to eat now. We where slightly sceptical when it fisrt opened due to the previous restaurant that occupied the building, the new owners havent done to much to the decor so still feels rather empty but still cosy and inviting. On out last visit my wife had the fish and chips as always and i tried the house steak for the first time, i have to say it was perfectly cooked and was very tender and flavoursom, the chips where to die for too (but i already knew that as we both normally have the fish and chips). The food and drinks are reasonably priced especially for the area and compared to what other restaurants locally charge. My only slightly negative is there is no draught beer but still a good choice of bottles. Overall a very good place to dine out for any occasion.

Came here on a early Saturday evening and got a lovely table next to the window. Classy place with nice decor, the service staff were lovely and very professional. We ordered starters which were huge, the main courses were just as big and both were top class in taste, even the side salad was crunchy fresh unlike other places you go to where it’s limp. The pricing for the food was spot on as well, not expensive at all. We couldn’t fit in a pudding as we were busting! One small gripe was the two drinks we ordered were a bit on the pricey side but it won’t stop us from coming again and we will tell all our family/ friends to try it. One of those places where you walk out at the end feeling glad you choose it

Excellent food, fabulous service. Great outdoor seating area at the back which offers the chance to sit in the sun at lunch time. Will definitely be back. Came again on monday but you were shut, would be handy if you had your opening hours on your window. Gatehouse is definitely worth a visit.

My wife and I visited The Gatehouse last Saturday for an early dinner (around 5pm). I should start by saying that the Head Chef and co-owner, Guy, and his wife Sam, and the bar master Jordan, also ran the Crooked Billet pub in Ryehill - our local - over on the east side of Hull. They breathed life into the Crooked Billet and turned it into the first class pub it is today. We were sorry to see them move on, but The Gatehouse is only a 25 minute drive for us, and we very much wanted to try it, knowing the quality of food that Guy produces. Well, we weren't disappointed! Despite the rainy afternoon we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The interior of The Gatehouse is clean, light and airy and the decor is a very crisp contemporary style. My wfe is a wheelchair user, and we can say that The Gatehouse is fully accessible. The menu has plenty on it to choose from and covers everything from a light-bite to a full meal. I had The Gatehouse Steak, which came with a generous portion of beautifully crispy chips, light side salad, seared baby tomatoes and button mushrooms and the best onion rings I have ever eaten. My wife had the fresh skinless battered hadock and chips. The portions were very generous and my steak was done medium rare, exactly as I like it, and I have to say it was superb - juicy, succulent and tender, and full of flavour. My wife's haddock was first class, and the batter was cooked to perfection. He fish was so large that she could quite finish it! We finished off by sharing a large slice of New York cheesecake with cream and butterscotch drizzle. Absolutely superb and all at an incredibly reasonable price. The Gatehouse also has a large and attractive private patio area at the rear for al fresco dining - perfect for the summer and romantic evening dining. If there's one restaurant I would recommend that you try in East Yorkshire it would be the Gatehouse.

Bit dingy lighting, given that the cafe is deep back to front. The teacake was delicious but only scantily buttered and not around the edges, so ask for extra butter. A serviette would have been nice. Taylor decaf tea was extra weak, ask for an extra tea bag to get a bit of taste

I was not looking forward to my lockdown birthday so you can imagine how excited I was to receive an Afternoon Tea from my daughter. The platter was brought to my door by Mrs M herself. It was beautifully presented and even had a Happy Birthday sticker on it. The food was delicious, I can honestly say that every mouthful was sublime. Highly recommended! It really made me feel special.
