We were so surprised when we walked into the Gate at Troway. It is like stepping back in time and so lovely! A traditional country pub that has not been turned into a Gastro pub - thank goodness. The landlord and his staff are lovely and welcoming and I would recommend giving this place a try. A bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit. As far as I know, they dont do meals.

What a dissapointment the meal was. We both had chicken breast with mushrooms and maderia sauce and vegetables. The whole meal tasted warmer up. Chicken was dry vegetables were very poor sauce tasteless at £14.95 very poor value. This is my second visit previous meal tasted warmed up too but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Staff friendly views fantastic great place for a drink but not for food. Hygiene certificate in the window is out of date shows 5 stars when in fact if you check the hygiene web site it is currently showing only 4 stars.

Visitamos la posada de la puerta por recomendación de un amigo y desde luego que no nos decepcionó. La ubicación y las vistas son preciosas, la comida increíble y a un precio muy razonable, sólo para ir y ver ustedes mismos.

Living in Calow for the last 6 years this pub has continued to disappoint, Landlords coming and going, inconsistent opening times and food being served/not being served. I'm not sure what made me and my wife go again, we know it's under new management again so thought we'd walk down have a pint and a bite to eat, both went for burgers , both reasonably priced and I have to say both very tasty, for nut much more than any fast food restaurant it was well worth the price, we'll definitely be returning. My only little gripe was you had to walk up to the top bar to order, so no table service, that accompanied by the fact the kitchen shuts at 7pm, we normally like to eat a bit later, but all in all, good value and good food.

Staff rude. Lacked manners and not very welcoming. Pub was clean, that's about it. Too interested in chatting the young men at the bar

Food was good for the price. Friendly staff. Beer was too expensive. That's the case for most pubs, but didn't expect a tenner for a beer & a shandy at a chain eatery. Maybe I'm just old & remember when beer wasn't a rip off.

We visited on November 1st, 2024, and sadly, it was quite a disappointment. While the bar staff did their best, the kitchen service was very underwhelming. By 6:30 PM, they had already run out of the special main menu on the board! The food took a long time to arrive, and when it finally did, it was subpar. The steak & ale pie was more air than a hot air balloon and hardly had any meat. The crust was burnt and tasted like a heated-up frozen pie. The chips were clearly shop-bought oven chips. This was not the level of service we had experienced before. We left feeling quite disappointed. It seems the place is being sold, and I hope the new owners can bring back some quality!
