Wonderful friendly pub which is very dog friendly and serve a Sunday dinner which was delicious, will definitely be back when in the area again.

What a find just a mile down the road from aeries field! Had dinner there twice, first time had the steak , oh my word!! Next day had the Steak and Ale pie: absolutely delicious and beautiful home cooking. Thank Dhaun (?) and Elle you are defo the A team. Cath and I will be back!

Wow!!! An idelic and stunning countryside pub in Atherstone My wife and I visited this pub recently fo dinner. The pub is a typical countryside pub, charming in character, peaceful with a wonderful rear garden to enjoy the sunshine. The reception we received was extremely friendly and welcoming, on ordering food the staff were happy to offer advice. My wife opted for the homemade Steak and Ale Pie and I opted for the Southern Fried Chicken burger, simply delicious food, great hospitality coupled with a wonderful countryside environment. We'll be back!!! Worth a visit!!!

OMG!!! Just been for Sunday lunch, would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. It was a microwave meal on a plate, tasteless and cold for £10. This place used to be fantastic but the standards have dropped immensely.

Fabulous meal in a friendly local pub environment. We went on a Saturday night and were greeted by Sean and Ally.. the plan was to have pie and chips (which is very good here) but when we got chatting we all opted for the steak deal. (2 good size steaks, home made chips, mushroom, tomato, sauce and a delicious side salad, plus bottle of wine for £40) Cooked perfectly .. and if you’ve not had proper home cooked chips in a while you’ll have forgotten how good they are.. this was empty plates all round. Was there room for dessert? When it’s as good as the sticky toffee pudding absolutely! Thanks to our hosts.. see you again soon.

We went to the gate inn for dinner and opted for the steak special which was two 10oz rump steaks with all the trimmings and included a blue cheese or pepper sauce a lovely feta cheese side salad and a bottle of house wine for £40, and it was amazing, medium rare steak cooked to perfection. Which I must admit I very rarely get. I would highly recommend this pub/restaurant. In fact I suggest getting down there asap. We are going try the Sunday lunch next which sounds wonderful and very well priced at £11.95

Visited during May. The pub looks nice enough and the staff were pleasant, bar was really sticky! The menu is quite small, only three starters & 6 mains. There are also burgers and light bites. We ordered starters and mains. The service was pretty slow and we waited (in my opinion) longer than average for the food. Starters were OK, soup not bad and prawn cocktail, about the same. Again, we waited longer than average for our mains - surf and turf and a homemade pie. Both were nice, served with homemade fries. The scampi on the surf and turf was poor, very watery in the middle when i cut through it. Both quite pricey at £26 and £15. Although there was nothing massively wrong with either meal, we waited quite a while for food and I've definitely had better for similar price.

What a little gem of a country pub! Excellent home prepared food and nice beers. Relaxing atmosphere, nice setting and lovely Landlord and Landlady! Nothing too much trouble, will definitely be back!

The gate is back to how it should be run. The draft beers are excellent and the pub is now clean and tidy. The food is great again. Well done to the new landlord and landlady.

Went with family for a meal, 5 of us. All home cooked, beautiful food cooked to perfection for a very good price. Beer is excellent and couldn't do enough for you!

Our midweek visit was a last minute decision and so glad we made it. The food was lovely (gourmet fish fingers, sole goujons) and mine hosts most welcoming. This lovely village pub is a treasure and deserves every success. Well done, Ellie and Sean

My family and I go every Sunday for a roast dinner and what a roast it is. All home cooked even the mash! A warm and friendly welcome is assured by the relatively new landlords Shaun and Ellie and made even warmer by an open log fire. You won't be disappointed if you visit The Gate for a drink or food.

The Gate has been reborn with new landlords Ellie and Sean. Very welcoming with a warm log fire serving a good range of drinks and excellent traditional pub food all made on site. They have spruced up the inside and outside as it was looking a little tired before. Well worth a visit to this lovely village pub.

We don't live local, but when we visit the area in our caravan we always go for a few pints at The Gate. Today we had Sunday Lunch and it was absolutely delish. 👍 Shaun and Ellie are brilliant hosts, they make you feel very welcome. We always take our dogs, the chef came out today and gave us a bag of meat scraps for the dogs, can honestly say, best bag of scraps I've ever tasted. 😃🤣

New landlords have been in for just a fortnight so good luck to them and previous reviews do not show the current situation. Good luck to them as they get up and running. We just called in today and got a very friendly reception. Great beer and a comfortable pub, next time we willl have a meal.

We had a stand at the NEC so stayed local to this pub. The food was the usual pub fair but well done and was very much enjoyed by all three of us. The owners were friendly and helpful. We went to the pub two nights in a row and very much enjoyed being there. I don't often go to pubs but if this was my local, I'd be in there once a week. Would I recommend a visit - absolutely!

I hadn’t been here for years and I mean 20 plus but I’m glad I went back. Nothing fancy just nice food and varied menu. Enough choice to satisfy my fussy teenager! Quite reasonable prices and the large drinks menu was well priced too. Will go back for sure

I have been to this country pub on many occasions , The landlady is lovely, the beer and food is good. It is always clean. It has a very friendly atmosphere. Could do with a lick of paint outside and some upgrading, however, that is down to the brewery! I have read some of the comments on here and I do wonder if they have visited the same pub!

Very confused at some of the previous comments I have read on here regarding The Gate Inn and it’s tenants We visited Sunday 21st august for a Sunday lunch and it was the best Sunday lunch I’ve been out and eaten for ages! The service was quick and efficient and the food tasted amazing! We will defiantly be back! The pub was busy which shows me that it gets more than enough custom! The drinks we’re also good, the beer tasted nice! Kim was very helpful and pleasant when bringing our food and dealing with us when we paid the bill I would ignore the previous comments and defiantly give this pub a try if not you will be missing out! Some of the comments I have read are making me think to believe something has happened somewhere down the line and people are just being nasty for certain reasons! We will definitely be back here!

We have just had a superb Sunday lunch here, there were 10 of us in total and all the food came out red hot & very tasty couldn’t fault it - the bar staff were very good - Jo was great nothing was any trouble...

Second time visiting this lovely pub and what’s happened? Last time we were there in August 21 it was all good but has since been taken over. The lager is flat and the barmaid just tapped the top of my glass which if she knew what she was doing, she’d know that just makes it flatter after a temporary fizz. We had 8 pints and 4 of them were changed so we paid for 8 but they pulled 12 off the pump. The food however was good which is why we’ll give the new people another chance. If they’ve not sorted the draught lager though it’ll be our last visit.

No one seems to know what they're doing. Service is very slow. It looks like they throw more beer down the sink than over the bar as they can't pour it, or have problems. There is no heating on at all so take a coat

I have visited twice in December and February 2022 for Sunday lunch, and i must say the food was superb. The meat and potatoes +Yorkshire pudding were already on the plate, but all the vegetables came in seperate dishes allowing people to help themselves to however much they want. Also the gravy was in a large gravy boat so that too was down to however much or less you wanted, may i add, the gravy was made from the meat juices and was very,very tasty. The seating was a little cramped on one side of the room, but it did not spoil our Sunday roast. There was plenty of choice of drinks at the bar and the staff were pleasant and helpful. I would deffinately recommend this nice,clean and welcoming village pub.

Charged £4 more per person for a group booking which was breakfast buffet that we didnt ask for. The new landlady omitted to tell us prior to paying, she promptly disappeared and then upon trying to contact her numerous times, reply was for me to call her to discuss… great customer service for local customers ! p.s. she charged £7 for a 2 year old breakfast …

4 of us went in for an evening meal midweek and the food was nice and well presented. The drinks however were not good at all. The lager on tap was flat. The young lady behind the bar was very apologetic and swapped them without issue. As a retired publican myself 95% of the time it’s because the glasses have worn out due to constant high temperature washing. The brewery will give new glasses free of charge so this is an easy fix, so just do it! as I saw a big table of drinkers who were also sending lager back. Another issue is the pub was freezing. Two fires were not lit at 6.30pm when we walked in and we’re still not lit by 8pm when we left. There was no heat coming from the radiators/heaters either. A couple of very simple changes of new glasses and turn the heating on and it would be a great place.

I just came by this beautiful and heartwarming pub. The host was lovely as well as the staff and went out of their way to make my husband and I welcome and feel comfortable. Will be back again!

Went for a meal on Friday evening. There was a lovely real fire which was lovely and made it nice and cozy. The staff were really friendly and welcoming which was lovely too. The meals that we had were first class, I had the fish which was one of the best I've had anywhere. My partner had steak which he really enjoyed and gave a 10 out of 10. We will be making it a regular visit for the food and the ambiance.

What a total turn around from the previous owners who quite honestly were rather brash and unwelcoming. The new owners are so friendly and welcoming to everyone, we were made so welcome that we will definately be visiting on a regular basis. The food was delicious, ample portions and reasonably priced for a small country pub. We had 4 visitors who came 2 weeks ago, we took them all for a hearty Sunday breakfast before they went on their way. They were all surprised at the quality of the food especially my son in law and believe he is very fussy.. . I think the review that was titled "shambles" must have got mixed up with somewhere else as this is definately not my experience, or my visitors experience of this little gem. But dont take my word for it try it for yourself even if its just for a drink, im sure they will make you just as welcome as they made us.

Called in for a lunch. Nice little quaint village pub with friendly staff. Drinks were spot on but our food was average. Bacon cheeseburger was extremely over cooked, almost black. Chicken burger was as dry as sandpaper. Strongly suspect both the beef burger and chicken burger had been reheated from the day before.

The new owners are doing a great job! Lovely family meal, good sized portions and value for money. Great little village pub!

The previous tenants did a fantastic job and it was sad to see them move onto pastures new in December. The new tenants I’m afraid don’t have a clue. Continually running out of beer it seems most weekends. They’ve no previous pub experience and it shows. The quality of the lager is very hit and miss although the bitter is ok. I’ve eaten twice and it wasn’t good - very dry over cooked chicken burger and a steak sandwich where there was more bread than steak due to them using doorstep thick bread when there is no need. I sent some visiting friends down for a meal. They booked over the phone and subsequently arrived and were given a table only then to be told their was no chef to cook so ended up leaving to then find somewhere else at late notice. One Sunday people turning up for Sunday lunch only to be told it was curry only without any previous notice. The air of class the previous tenants created on the very popular Sunday lunches has gone and now the place feels more like a town pub. I used to visit weekly but sadly now it’s just to hit and miss to bother. I hope they sort it out and at least get some pub training because without it the place will ultimately close and like mainly village pubs probably won’t reopen again.

The meals are delicious, esp the Sunday lunches. Delicious home cooked food and ample portions too. Fully recommend them. We'll miss them when they leave in November.

We have been for Sunday lunch 3 times now it has been splendid top of the tree been everywhere cannot beat it ,Landlord very pleasant and all the staff cannot do enough for you be warned you have to book but believe me it is well worth it,the beef melts in your mouth,the chicken is also good.Thanking you all Sue and Colin Duncan

Went to the gate today with my Uncle, Auntie & wife. One had Pork, one Chicken and 2 had the roast beef ! All meals were top notch and the service was excellent also! I highly recommend this establishment, nice selection of real ales which is a bonus! Great little find! Well worth the visit!

We live locally and have tried out most of the local pubs for their Sunday dinner.I have to say that this was, by a country mile, the best yet.Ample portions all piping hot, beautifully cooked and delicious.Excellent, attentive and friendly service.I can’t recommend this place highly enough...........try it yourselves!

First visit to this pub. Atmosphere was lovely and warm. Food really excellent and very well presented. Beautiful tasting food and all very fresh. Puddings very nice too. Staff very helpful and friendly. Prices are very good and would definately recommend. Only negative the music was playing really loud above our table so had a job chatting with ease. I visit the midlands from Somerset & always come here for Sunday lunch. Booking is essential not to be disappointed. The beef is always beautifully tender & plenty of it, we never go away hungry! Very reasonably priced, good service, very friendly staff

Visited with my wife and my parents. Food and drinks were very good for all of us and we left feeling very full. I had the cod and chips. Cod was well cooked with nice light batter and it was a very big portion. Chips were ok but clearly frozen from a food wholesaler which was a slight disappointment. Parents had gammon which they enjoyed too and it was a very nice place to sit and enjoy a meal as the rain poured outside

Popped in on Saturday at lunch time for a quick drink after walking from Etties Field (another lovely place) where we were camping in our campervan.

This is my local. Besides being a bit biased, Justine and Julie make the perfect hosts and landord team and offer excellent beer and food. Sunday meals are good, but the regular menu is excellent. I can’t resist the cod and the steaks - just fantastic. You need to book for meals as they are always busy. You will not be disappointed.

Got there early, but was almost fully booked. Got the last table. They quickly offered a chair to replace the stool, which was much appreciated.

Can highly recomend the Sunday lunch menu. All 8 meals were home cooked large portions very good value for money

Visited this pub for the second time and it lived up to our expectations. Beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed a drink before our meal in the garden. Food was excellent, starters were hot and tasty. Loved the trio of cheese. Roast lunches were exceptional, so much choice of vegetables. Meat was tender and good thick slices served. Our friends said it was the best Sunday lunch they had ever had. Well priced and definitely recommend this pub. We will definitely be visiting again.

The Gate is one of our better local pubs...we live in the next town...visiting at least once a month..mainly for drinks, but do eat occasionally....keeps a really good pint(s) of real ale...the food has always been of the highest standard...lots of homemade dishes ...doesn’t do food on Mondays...j

What a lovely pub with great atmosphere. The menu for Sunday lunch was excellent with plenty of choice. We had the soup for starter which was very hot and tasty with a nice chink of ciabatta. Our friends had the fried cheese which looked very tasty and other friends which had the prawns and smoked salmon with very generous portions. The Sunday roasts were lovely, beef was very tender turkey was succulent. Great selection of vegetables. Desserts were also very good would definitely recommend the blackberry and apple crumble. Will definitely revisit. Highly recommended.

We have eaten at the Gate several times and we have never been disappointed. This time, there were 6 adults and 3 young children. The waitress was friendly, efficient and very accommodating. The food arrived nice and hot and was plentiful. Considering the quality of the food and the good portions .we felt the Gate offers good value for money. We will go back.

I think the best place locally for Sunday lunch, the meat of your choice is always locally sourced and there is always a different take on the vegetables, not just boiled or roast potatoes with a green side, you have leeks in cream, parsnips in honey, roasted carrots etc etc. the beer is always good my husband tells me and the wine is excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this place.

This is a traditional village pub that serves great food and not a restaurant in a village .It retains it’s character and it’s local drinkers .

Quiet little country pub. Amazing Sunday roast no matter what meat you choose. Plenty of veg provided too. Big portions for desserts as well. Could not praise the food enough! My only criticism is one of the waitress’s was dressed like she was going clubbing!

Been going to the Gate for over 30 years and its still as good, Justin and the team give a great service with good draught beer and food. Its not a vast menu but whats on their you will not be disappointed with. The steaks are always good quality and cooked to how you like and Sunday lunch is also a must. very reasonably priced to ... Sunday afternoon again...And this time we're at The Gate Inn, Ratcliffe Culey. Plenty of parking space in this nice rural village. We pre booked a table for 4pm. We ordered two Sunday roasts, which we had to wait a little while for, but it was quite busy. Worth waiting for though, as the plate was full. Cooked very well. The pudding came shortly after, quite small in portion size for the price, but tasted nice.

Called in today for lunch, portions were very generous. Food was clearly homemade and not your standard frozen pub Food. Delicious and good value. Service was prompt and friendly and Although there wasn’t a kids menu we were offered children’s sized portions off the main menu

Sometimes you just get a good feel when you walk through the front door - this is one such place . Lovely pint of Directors to start . Shown to our table immediately. Mushrooms starter good . Gammon egg and chips plentiful and tasty . House red wine most acceptable. An all round nice place .

We went to celebrate a birthday and the Sunday lunch was great. Not only was the meat tasty there was also a wide selection of vegetables including broccoli and lean cheese and honey roasted parsnips with carrots. Can’t recommend it enough and we will definitely be going back!

Lovely pub and friendly staff. Excellent food, all cooked from fresh and portion sizes are perfect. I'm a vegetarian, and it makes a refreshing change to eat Sunday dinner out and have a good choice (apparently the meat options are delicious as well).

Really disappointed with the Gate today, we had a table booked for 10 people at 1pm and had a phone call at 12 to say it was cancelled, I had family traveling from Bedford and with only an hours notice I had trouble finding another venue. We ended up at The Bull which was terrible. Other family members have also been to the Gate as the food is lovely but don't expect to stay after 9pm as they close if not many in.

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in with a cheery greeting from the young lady behind the bar. We ordered food from a typical pub menu and chose pie of the day, gammon and egg and vegetable lasagne. The food was well cooked and presented, the service was excellent and the prices reasonable. We will definitely visit again as this is how all pubs should be.

Love the food here, home cooked with attention to detail. I want to try everything on the menu. The prawn and salmon starter is amazing with a lovely salad including grapes which actually works. We are camping nearby so will be eating here a few nights. The only thing is they run out of items on the menu if you go later in the evening .

Visited this evening on spec with our friends and their 2 children, we had a warm and friendly welcome, despite most of the tables being reserved they still made room for the 6 of us without any fuss. The food was 1st class using good quality produce and being freshly cooked , we had homemade lasagna, cod and steaks. One of the boys asked for 3 starter's for his main meal and they put them onto one plate which was a really nice touch. If we are in the area again we will definitely return.
