Decided to give this place one a second chance after an awful experience last year as previously we had loved going here for a roast dinner on a Sunday. Really we wish we hadn’t. The girl looking after our table was miserable from the outset, seated us and then disappeared for ages taking over 20 minutes to get a drinks order from us. Once drinks were ordered they then took and age to come as well. Finally when they arrived and she went to take our food order, we were told there were no Sunday roasts left - the entire point of us going. Having worked in hospitality for years, I believe it’s always the done thing to tell people what’s not on the menu when you give out the menus? Not providing slow ordering service to only tell people that you don’t have half the menu once they’ve decided?? Without the roast option, the Sunday menu is very limited and whilst for the rest of my family they easily made other choices I really struggled knowing that the tex-mex food is not always of the greatest standard. Food then took an age to come. It was ok but not great. Literally as soon as we put our forks down we were asked if we wanted the bill so said yes as this wasnt the nice anniversary meal we had hoped for. After paying and leaving, realised we had been charged for our little boys drink and not offered his dessert both of which were included in the price of the kids meal. Pretty disgusted with the whole experience. Such a shame as this used to be such a great place to go

Just had a family celebration for a 70th birthday. 12 of us in the party. All our food was presented at the same time, hot and very tasty. Large portions and lovely crispy chips. Friendly amenable staff tweaked the menu for us. Great meal all round.

Booked The Gate for my mother in laws 90th Birthday. There were 24 of us. Rachael and the staff were so attentive, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. Would absolutely recommend. Thank you again for a wonderful afternoon xx

After going hear for the last 5 years , tonight's meal was very disappointing the standers have definitely dropped ! Inedible calamari, chicken needed a steak knife, burrito was full of wet rice amd Guinness was shocking!! The chips and porn stars were good !! Such a shame as always enjoyed eating hear.

Popped into this lovely pub for a quick meal and drink without a booking. Polite staff accommodated us without a problem. Food served very quickly, more than we could manage, potions very large, perfectly cooked quality food, would recommend to anyone. Will be returning!

Started off lovely excellent service friendly staff shame didn’t last!!! We all had starters which were well presented and very nice Mains came out we all had roasts which were awful to be polite we ordered extra yorkies as well as what was supposed to be included I told the waiter we were short of 4 Yorkshire puddings as 2 were missing off plates plus 2 extras we ordered He went off came back and said you got what you paid for that’s it!!!!!! I’ve never been out for a meal and spoken to so rude the manager then came over and said it’s because they had ran out which is fair enough. But what they did serve was hard dried up mash was more like smash the presentation was awful literally thrown on plate with peas thrown all over top of food. I literally ate the carrots nothing had any taste We were given 20% off and free round of drinks but still cost £110 when didn’t eat anything and left hungry definitely over priced and very poor ingredients used Left very disappointed

Fabulous food, very friendly service, we have visited many times over the years and have never been disappointed! This time I had the nachos grande and they were the best I have had anywhere! Tex Mex always husbands fav and chicken burgers were a hit with the girls! We will be back again soon!

We have been coming here for years but standards have dropped. The last few times we have visited, I have seen bar staff mocking customers, dirty chairs and cushions (particularly in the bar area), and the food is just not as nice. Management are also cold and unfriendly...a far cry from the previous manager who was lovely. Disappointed and not what it used to be unfortunately.

Gone rubbish since they stopped serving the 'Three Alarm Chilli' as a proper dish with rice and ditched Mexican nights, pretty idiotic strategy to ditch the mean the pub is most known for. You can still get the Chilli but you have to have it with steak or something, totally stupid, such an easy meal to do when you have the ingredients anyway.Big disappointment.

Very nice in and outside of pub , my first gripe is the there are no prices displayed on menu for food nor drinks . And to top it off I received quit a big bill , that I was forced to pay a minimum of 10% gratuity . Collectively and individually we won’t be returning .

Enjoyed the yummy food and we were made to feel welcome 👌. Portions were really a good size, good value for money, we would definitely go again.

First of all we found the table and seats to be sticky and not as clean as we would have liked on our reserved table. The service was perfect, not too long a wait for 7 people, and very friendly. I ordered the rump steak with chilli con carne and chips. The steak was perfectly cooked, med, a good size, but on the tuff side, the chilli was amazing as were the chips. For sweet I had the lemon meringue which I was told would be amazing, great pastry, and lemon filling but the meringue was under done, not crisp curls on top. My wife had the steak and ale pie which was superb. So a bit more attention to cleanliness and a few details needed. Would I go again? yes, I was told by one of our group that the sea bass was brilliant, so will try that.

Sat outside and had a lovely lunch. The sloppy joe baguette was absolutely delicious. The outside is well kept with sheltered and unsheltered tables. Both my baguette and the kids portion are very generous. Couldn’t fault it!

Popped in for a quick lunch (didn’t book but there were some tables left). Opted for a cheese salad (ploughman’s) and some curly fries and my husband had the sloppy joe with cajun chips. Food arrived promptly and was excellent value. We definitely over ordered and didn’t need the chips. There was so much food and it was delicious. My only gripe (and it is being really picky) was that the pickle came in a paper tub and the crusty bread was a part bake baguette and not “crusty” bread as imagined. Just seemed to undersell the quality and presentation of the food (which apart from that was top notch). Will definitely return during the summer.

Food was ok but customer service is shocking. I asked if I could have 2 more roast potatoes on my dinner, it was like I asked him for his car keys, the look of shock / horror just asking for 2 roast potatoes!!!! I eat out a lot, I am bitterly disappointed! Now I get you are busy on Father’s Day but to be completely treated like crap by staff and a supervisor who doesn’t really give one is not encouraging for a return visit. I am new to the area, I live in a Aston Fields and find the lack of empathy disturbing like it’s your right to not care. Think back to COVID where the public propped your businesses… Short memory… The supervisor says he will reply on here but wish he would have been more accepting to me in person than taking to an online forum! The staff friendly food amazing didn’t have to wait long and it was lovely and hot and plenty of food. Our waitress was lovely ordered bottles of Prosecco for toast for my lovely dads 80th birthday was all set out had an amazing time. Will definitely be going back and would definitely recommend

Having used this restaurant for many years through a few owners yet another pub that has dropped its food standards. Went for Sunday lunch which used to be fantastic the meat used to melt in your mouth. I ordered the beef dinner which was like cutting and chewing an elastic band , complained so I had the roast chicken instead wow exactly the same it wasn't even roast chicken it was grilled. What a shame it's not cheap food but we have always been prepared to pay a bit more for quality food but not for this rubbish

Really enjoyed a Mother’s Day Sunday Lunch at this lovely pub. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. And the atmosphere was great too, it was extremely busy, so that speaks for itself.

We attended as a family of 5, for my birthday, in November. We happened to be there on the eat out to help out night and received a great discount. Food was good, covid regulations clear and fair and whilst it was very quiet (we went early as our baby goes to bed early) initially, it busied up while we were there. Would go again for sure

Really not happy to be that one person to write a negative review, As we were really looking forward to our meal and night out due to the Gluten Free options on the menu.Firstly we were sent wrong food for some one who has coeliac disease, and although the chef did apologise, we were also left waiting for over half an hour for drinks, which we still didn't receive..!! Came as in a party of about 10 of us, which can always be difficult to get everything right and for the most part it was. One or 2 of the steaks were overcooked and some food came out quite a while after the others had there's. The service was average i felt they didn't have enough staff on to be able to look after everyone properly. Will still be back as I've never been let down before

Came here the night before lockdown 2.0, my first time on recommendation. Food was really good, the steak on the texmex was great, I’m normally hesitant on ordering steak at non steak houses, but was a really good cut even of rump & cooked perfectly. The pork belly bites & halloumi bites also excellent.Would 100% come back, and was great to see a restaurant taking COVID distancing pretty seriously. Felt as safe as could be & all staff wore masks, even those in the kitchen which I was really surprised about but felt reassured!!!!Food 10/10.

Our first visit since lockdown. I have been eating here for forty years and always enjoy the food but was so disappointed to see that chimichangas were no longer on the menu, my personal favourite. My Tex Mex steak was very good but is a second choice. I hope the chimichangas return to the menu!When we visited the windows were wide open which was okay on an evening that wasn't too cold but I wouldn't want to sit in the cold to eat when the weather is significantly worse.

Visited on a Friday evening with wife and two children. Food was great and service superb. Front of house lady, whose name I didn’t catch, was very welcoming and catered for our every need. Pork ribs were the meatiest ribs I’ve ever had. Kids ate every bit of their food. Will certainly return again soon

Having eaten at the gate for many years this will unfortunately be our last time, the food was completely over priced for what is was. Microwaved heaps of food just literally thrown on a plate, surprisingly it was busy as they had continued with the eat out to help out scheme ! Our child’s ‘Mac n cheese’ was the real shocker..... dried up microwaved pasta, with loads fries just literally threw on top.Carb Overload !!

We have just left the Gate at Bourneheath after deciding to go there tonight for our anniversary meal along with our two little ones (No babysitter due to covid LOL) Our waitress was Shabz who we've never seen at the pub before but I can actually say she made our meal out a delight! She was friendly, asked how our lockdown experience was and was generally lovely! I can honestly say I've never had such a lovely welcome from a staff member at a pub, especially in these times. You are an absolute asset to your team and we hope to see you very soon! And to top it off the food was amazing as always and it turns out there still continuing with the eat out to help out, which was a lovely surprise when we got the bill.Thank you, we will be back soon!Take care and keep safe x

Went on 30th September food good but shocked at prices of alcohol £5.60 for a small glass of wine ,pints of bear at nothing short of £6. Too expensive

We had a great meal with the family. The COVID arrangements are well organised and the service overall was excellent. Our waitress was Shabila and she was really friendly with our children and attentive. The food was, as usual excellent too with plentiful portions. Definitely recommend the Tex-Mex steak and the kids cod goujons were crispy and light. All round a great evening.

I have been visiting the Gate for well over 40 years and I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. It is our go to pub for family occasions but this is the first time we've been since lockdown.No special occasion this time but we took some friends there for the first time. Always a bit nervous introducing new people to places we love but we needn't have worried. The food, service, ambiance and covid security were all first rate.A text from our friends this morning proclaimed it the best steak they've ever had! Well done The Gate and thank you.

Visited The Gate last night for supper. So well organised, staff were really friendly and food was great. 3 of us had the Tex Mex, mixture of rump steak, homemade chilli and choice of chips / fries or rice. Steak and chilli were extremely tender and well cooked. And lots of it, generous portions. They have extended their Eat Out To Help Out Scheme for Mon - Weds in Sept, so instead of £17.50, we paid £7.50 each. Have booked to go back next Wednesday. Lovely evening. My only thought was we could have done with a little additional lighting on our table as it felt a little dark. Thanks you to the team at The Gate :)

We have loved the gate for many years but after visiting last week we sadly won't be returning. While staff are lovely & welcoming, our starters arrived 20 minutes before our first drink. We then waiting 30 minutes for a glass of water. The chips on our mains had clearly been reheated more than once and food is just microwaved making enchiladas extremely soggy. I think the downfall of the gate is doing delivery. You're no longer trying to keep people in your restaurant happy. Standards have slipped dramatically. Upset is an understatement.

Having not visited The Gate for sometime I’ve now eaten here a few times and the food and service were amazing. Shabila and her team are very welcoming and explain all the social distancing measures they have in place. The food was great with good sized portions and lots of different choices on the menu as well as the pub classics so suits all the family. I recommend booking as it gets very busy.

We chose the Gate as our first foray back to dining out. It’s our Go To restaurant. Great formula food coupled with fabulous and friendly service. Made to feel exceptionally safe and welcome.

Visited after reopening due to COVID, the place was well organised and the food as great as ever. Tried a couple of places in the “eat out to help out” scheme, which all fell very short, but The Gate was as brilliant as ever. If you have not been, give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

After a walk over the Lickey Hills we were very hungry and I remembered going to the Gate some time ago. It was just 12 o clock when we arrived so just opening. As it was early Sunday lunch time I thought we may have had to pre book but the staff were very friendly and accommodating and we took an outside table as it was a beautiful day. The restaurant demonstrated appropriate appreciation of covid with drinks and food delivered using an app (food). The food was excellent with each of the 4 of us choosing something different. Drinks and food were well priced and I would definitely recommend and return in the future. Try the sticky toffee pudding!

Yes, we I have previously said that we live locally and that we eat at this lovely establishment often, but it has to be said that the Gate is still really welcoming despite the current situation and the staff are still lovely and the food still great. Recently visited. Food was scrumptious as always. Steak was portioned correctly and cooked to perfection. Home cooked cheesecake went down a treat. Service was really good. Social distancing and track and trace in place. We love this place.

Had lunch here on a wet Friday afternoon. Easily got a table and very good safety measures were in place. Service was very good. We had Cod and fat chips and Chicken Forestiere and skinny fries along with Cheesy Garlic Bread. Gosh the portions were huge! Very tasty though Really enjoyed it and prices quite reasonable. It would be very good value Monday to Wednesday with the half price offer.

Came here to take advantage of the 50% off deal. All staff are wearing PPE and there are plenty of hand sanitisers to use so straight away you feel safe eating here. I had the burger which was delicious. Really juicy thick meat with Plenty of cheese and bacon . The chips were large and chunky and cooked perfectly and you also got a generous portion . Would 100% come here again and happily pay full price

All well and good and I appreciate the need to impose Social Distancing, but why could they serve lager and cider from the garden tent, but not beer, and provide a meal outside but not coffee?? Visited here on 4th August. Took advantage of government discount scheme. Safety precautions were excellent so felt fine. Food was lovely. Never had a bad meal. My fillet steak was beautiful. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely be coming back.

The food seems to be getting worse at the Gate over the years, not impressed. Over cooked pork belly and overcooked small mince beef chimichnaga. Waitress and social distancing measures were really good though.
