Just like a pub should be with everyone welcoming like you have known them for years. Joy and laughter to be had by all. A proper pub in my eyes.

Has a roomy car parking at the side of building all facilities on the ground pleasant no pub as far as im aware food is not on menu there is a pool table at back

This is a proper pub! No frills but a great boozer. Super friendly staff and landlord. Pool table and juke box, great beer and best pint of Guiness ever!

Nice pints at a great value, they had the footy on which unfortunately was a few minutes behind and lagging sporadically so not sure what's happening there! Has pool too :)

Nice selection of ales, etc & the service was very good & friendly. Pool table & darts board was used by us for a good 2 hours.

We held a works leaving do here a few months ago as the pandemic was coming to an end. Despite all the restrictions the staff were under we were BRILLIANTLY looked after - they couldn’t do enough. We went back on Friday for another event and again the staff were brilliant. They even recognised us and again really looked after us. What struck me is that the team there are so naturally friendly and very genuine rather than just going through the motions. Great fun too! So for warm, genuine service I couldn’t recommend highly enough. James

One of the best pubs in Sawbridgeworth! You couldn't ask for more welcoming, friendly and simply wonderful staff. I love the atmosphere here, you can walk in and straight away you feel right at home. Me, friends and family have had many great nights here. Despite the extremely challenging demands they are put under by COVID restrictions, they have excelled and honestly do all they can to make your experience one that is memorable for all the right reasons. If you have an opportunity to visit please do, you won't regret it!!!

The Gate is a great little pub with a big heart! Under the current Covid rules they really couldn't do anymore. Drinks well priced, and great service. I booked a table in the marquee, and was supplied blankets and the gas heater on. Lovely staff and attentive landlord. Recommended!

It was very cold and they made us sit in the open even though we had booked a table under cover

We all had amazing day lors to do and see . We all loved The Dinosaurs area it was amazing . Although the Train ride wasn't worth the money everything else was brilliant. X

Excellent. Since new management took over tgis has become the best place in Sawbridgeworth and surrounding areas for a decent puntnwith decent folk. Dog freindly too.

Parking very restricted. Looks like recently redecorated, but very sparse with little seating. Bar ruled by TV and no ambiance. Friendly and helpful staff but probably wouldn't go again.

Poor service and a bad appmosphere.

Reopened tonight looking fresh! Very minimal but a great start compared to what was previously a very sad bar.

Great atmosphere, well priced drinks, plenty of bar games such as pool darts, machines. Football and rugby were shown in the TV at the same time. Has a nice size veer garden. And they do a great pint of Guinness. They do food as well but never tried it. The staff were very welcoming. Will definitely be returning.

The Gate is a proper old style British pub. Busy for a Tuesday, full of locals watching Champions league football. Good pub grub, very reasonably priced. This one deserves to avoid the national cull of pubs that has decimated the UK over the last two decades. Will go again

We came for the pool table, but the lack of popular drinks soon had us moving onto another pub. Iv seen better toilets at the bus station.

Okay, firstly it is cheap, some of the cheapest pub food around, but it all feels a little underwhelming when served up and has an evening dinner feel about it, like something you could knock up in a few minutes at home. Good range of beers though...

Ales made on premises, food also served here. Great beer festivals usually on the spring and summer bank holidays. Great atmosphere and friendly bar staff. There is a car park out he back which usually has spaces and also with more seating for smokers of to enjoy a sunny evening. Most sporting events are usually shown here and they have dartboards and a pool table.

Me and my family have never felt so uncomfortable in a pub before. Both interior and bar staff were unclean. Only one female toilet in which the seat was broken. Overall a very uncomfortable experience resulting in us leaving quite promptly and abandoning our drinks. Wouldn't recommend it.

A proper English pub. Good food, good beer, friendly landlord, easy parking, good prices, what else is there? I popped in on the off-chance with my family and really enjoyed my visit. I played billiards with my 9 year old grandson while we waited for our lunch to be cooked. We had great fun and will definitely choose this place next time we are in the area. Recommended.
