We have eaten here often but today’s meals were exceptional. Hubby had the sea trout with mashed potato and vegetables. My steak was as tender as could be and the mushrooms were particularly tasty as was the peppercorn sauce.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Having tried to book two rooms online and the site crashing, I rang the hotel myself. I spoke to Maxine and booked a twin and a double room. I asked for an email to be sent to me as confirmation. It didn't arrive. I rang again (twice) and asked for confirmation. I was assured my booking had been made, it was on 'the system' and I'd be sent an email. It didn't arrive. How long does it take to send an email? On arrival at the hotel, I and my family were greeted with the news that there was only the twin room booked in my name - no double room - and they were fully booked, so that left two of us, 130 miles away from home and nowhere to sleep for the night. The receptionist did her best to resolve the issue and a round of drinks was offered to us. The next shocker was a barman who didn't know how to mix a Bloody Mary. Maxine, the owner, eventually put in an appearance and was adamant that she hadn't had a conversation with me and hadn't taken my booking. When I asked her how I knew her name (I'd never met her before) her reaction was to shrug her shoulders and walk away. She couldn't have cared less. I was told by more than one local that the hotel is for sale. Whoever buys it will have their work cut out, building their trade up, because Maxine is doing a fine job of killing it!

All aspects of our stay were outstanding - from our clean and comfortable room to the fantastic food, from a good selection of drinks from the bar to the helpful and courteous staff - nothing was too much trouble. We visit Much Wenlock most weeks. The Priory Christmas craft shop was on and we brought our friends along for the day. What a lovely late lunch we had at Gaskell Arms. A cozy, friendly restaurant. The staff so attentive and kind. Our food was hot and delicious. Staff topping up our teapot. Wonderful atmosphere and a warm fire to make it comfy. Locals coming and going after a friendly pint or too. We finished our meal and sat contented in conversation. Never made to feel we had to leave. We will most definitely come back. Many thanks to everyone

We came here on a Sunday evening for dinner. The food was ok, nothing special but not bad either. The gentleman behind the bar and the waitress who served us were very pleasant, and the chef took the time to ask us if everything was ok with our meal, which is always nice. Altogether, a nice experience. However, after we had paid, my friend politely enquired about the original of one of the other waitress's accents. The exchange went as follows: My friend: "Where's your accent from?" Waitress: "Europe" My friend: "Oh, Eastern Europe?" Waitress: "Where I'm from, it is considered rude to ask this question." Me: "Oh, where we're from it's called the art of conversation." Waitress: "You've already paid, so you won't be getting a discount, so there's no need to try to be nice." Wow. Someone needs to either fire this waitress or at the very least give her some training in customer services. Rude and impolite, disrespectful and simply inappropriate. The other good staff looked totally baffled by her attitude, and probably slightly embarrassed. As a local, I often visit The Gaskell with friends, but this will be the last visit. We were considering having our weekly sports club evening drinks here, and even our club Christmas dinner. I have also recommended this place to many of my guests. Needless to say, none of these will be happening now. The attitude of this waitress has lost this place a lot of future income.

We stayed for 2 nights at this traditional friendly hotel located on the edge of the lovely small town of Much Wenlock. Our room wasn’t the largest but was comfortable and had a separate seating area with tea/coffee making facilities. The shower functioned well and the beds were comfortable. Although located above the restaurant/bar, we had no issues with noise. Breakfasts were very good and the one dinner we had was enjoyable too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay here again if revisiting beautiful Shropshire.

I booked into the Gaskell after having to leave my home due to a fire. I was really low and still a bit in shock However from the moment I phoned and spoke to Danielle to ask if they had a place for me where I could work as well as sleep I began to feel better as she couldn’t have been any more helpful . The day I walked into the beautiful Coach House I exhaled and started to think things were getting better and I quickly felt warm and welcome and cared for and lucky . Every single member of staff are a delight from Jean who cooked my breakfast every morning to Rob and Alfie who bought me my meals each night and helped me get my computer and work equipment set up in the kitchen diner. Also Charlotte who takes such pride in keeping the Gaskell clean started my day each morning with her lovely smile and pleasant manor as she cleaned as I walked into breakfast I would like to give the biggest thank you to all of them that made a very difficult time for me a pleasure. I would give 10/10 for everything xxx The food was really lovely with sa lot of choices of starter, mains and puddings. No atmosphere, the entire place is bland and forgettable and the food was worse. It’s like it is stuck in a time warp, very disappointing. Three staff attended me but not one asked how the food was…which is why the feedback is here! Even when I paid I wasn’t asked if everything had been good! I had a tuna steak salad for main which I was really happy to see on the menu, I asked it it could be cooked on the rare side. It was awful. Drenched in oil, no seasoning, everything thrown in (possibly leftovers from Sundays lunch menu I’m guessing as it was Monday) the tuna itself was dry and unappetising, just awful. There were even the end cuts of lettuce which I’ve only ever seen in food waste. Foolishly I continued and ordered a dessert, I was concerned because they all sounded homemade which after experiencing the disaster of a salad was alarming. I had a microwaved drab and disappointing upside down cake with custard on the side in a pot with no handle….burn alert. I had two coffees, both served in tea pots?? One was a little thin, the other was like espresso, so on the plus side there’s no consistency, they may do better when you try them.

As a local who frequents The Gaskell Arms , and usually have a good meal we were hugely disappointed this evening, the homemade steak pie and cottage were good home cooked fare. On the specials board was a duck breast in pineapple and brandy jus. It arrived was tough, tasteless and with very limited jus. At a guess it had been microwaved, It was inedible. We sent it back, as it was £15. To the staffs credit, they accepted this, replaced it with fish and chips which was good. Chips were cheap frozen ones - and veg uninspiring. May need to up its game.

Visited The Gaskell with my wife Sat. 14th April. She had the “Hereford pork and pear pie”.......bland with over-cooked chips, I had the 10 oz gammon which was overall cooked to hardness even crisp at the edges, with eggs so over cooked I would say the chef needs to learn how to cook them. Certainly not good value for money. So sad, first time out with my wife in a while that ends with her asking me to remind her not to eat here again.

We decided to eat here after a local in another pub down the road told us that The Gaskell served the best beer in town. Not sure how accurate this fact is but we were not disappointed by his recommendation. We received a warm welcome on arrival, and enjoyed a couple of pre-dinner drinks. The bar where we ate was quite busy but there is a separate restaurant area if you prefer. There is a good selection on the menu and also some specials. I had the fidget pie (pork and apple) served with chips and fresh veg. My wife had the ceasar salad, which was really nicely presented with plenty of marinated anchovies. The chef came into the bar as we were finishing our meal so we were able to tell him how much we enjoyed our food. The Gaskell is on the edge of town at the end of the high street. We'll worth the walk. Good value food and well kept beer served by friendly staff. Perfect.

Stopped here en route to our daughter’s for Christmasafter a 2 hour drive. Glad to have a break. There was a good happy atmosphere on entering as there seemed to be a Christmas party in the bar. The bars have a cosy olde worlde feel with timber beams and a central log fire that heats both sides of the lounge bar. We looked at the lunch specials, several of which looked inviting , and both decided on the local meal of Fidgetty Pie. We had never heard of this but it turned out to be very nice, chunks of pork slow cooked in cider and cream sauce topped with a short crust pastry top and served with chips or new potatoes and mixed vegetables of carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. Very comforting and filling. Service was very good too. There is also a large separate restaurant that looked very smart and well appointed but I’m not sure if it is always used at lunchtimes. We continued on our way well fortified. A good stop in an interesting little town.

Having arrived we were shown to the impressive dining room and our table. Having checked the sunday lunch menu we placed our order with the pleasant friendly staff. The three courses were first rate fresh veg and everything piping hot.

We ate in the restaurant having been advised to book because they were v busy. Unless Much Wenlockians eat very late in the evening I don't think booking was essential. However the menu is appealing (chicken with chorizo, salmon with cray fish) as well as fish and chips and other pub staples. The chef was cheerful and very accommodating over gluten free requirements. There is a short but ok wine list. Service was fine and prompt but a little bit haphazard (getting water and water glasses at the same time seemed tricky for example) and there are only cheap paper napkins which I personally don't like. The decor in the dining room is very old fashioned, which I guess could be seen as quaint and after all doesn't detract from the quality of the food which was all well cooked and tasted excellent. I would definitely come back if I was in the area again.

My wife and I stayed for a week while I went gliding on the Mynd. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to look after us. Jean, the breakfast queen, ensured that breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and the coffee kept coming. Dinner was a delight, local food well cooked. All in all a great stay!

We had heard such good things about the Gaskell arms.My partner and we found the hotel to be exceptionally nice to stay in, the staff were lovely, our dinner extremely pleasant and the breakfast was brilliant. The room was very tastefully furnished and we both liked the fact that a tea pot was provided, which is a lovely touch. Unfortunately, as the evening progressed the smell of damp in the room became exceptionally strong, so much so the it kept my partner, who is asthmatic, awake during the night for a least 3 hours. We originally thought that the damp smell was only coming from the bathroom which it probably was, but in the morning we did notice a fair amount of mildew on the wall under the bay window. This, as you can imagine, spoiled what otherwise would have been an ideal stay, something that we both had really been looking forward to.My letter of complaint and follow up email went unanswered so customer care does not seem to be a matter of concern.

Comfortable hotel. Despite being on the main road and at a busy junction the hotel is quite quiet and is certainly comfortable. The meals and breakfast are very acceptable.

I ate here, the George and the Talbot over this week. I also stayed in rooms here. I'd rate the rooms about 3 star and food at 4 star. Because the room is more towards a 2 than a 3 the average score is 3.I had fish and chips. It was very good. The eating area was bisected by a huge fireplace. On both sides the tables are a bit squashed together and it can get a bit warm if you sit too near the fire. Choice of real ales was good. Prices for food a bit more expensive than the other two places.Room: very respectable price. They were clean, comfortable and warm. However, the decor was a bit old fashioned, the telly reception wasn't good enough, tv very small and kept losing signal or sound. Water from cold tap in bathroom very chlorinated and when I tried to make cups of tea with it they were disgusting. Also UHT milk pots were off. I opened one on the first night and it smelled of stagnant cheese. I opened the other 5 and they were the same.Luckily, there's a garage opposite where you can buy bottled water and milk.Bathroom looks like it is quite newly decorated and very smart and spotlessly clean. Breakfast doesn't have that much choice but is acceptable; orange and grapefruit juice, tea and coffee, about 3 cereals, toast, bananas, yogurt, cooked breakfast. I wouldn't NOT stay here again but I wouldn't feel compelled to unquestioningly come back here without seeing what else was around.

A calm and warm atmosphere filtered up from the floors, through the walls and from around the old beamed bar area. I knew this was going to be special.A beautifully presented restaurant was waiting for us, all tables fully laid out to receive hungry guests. We had it all to ourselves, professional waitress with a warm smile.A fantastic menu of good local produce, the food was hot and fresh. The gammon was so tasty, I never wanted it to end.The chef came out to talk to us, we heard about fidget pie and all the local produce that he insists on using.AN ABSOLUTE DELGHT, perfect local food that hasn't clocked up any air miles, keeping the local community in business.

I have reviewed The Gaskill Arms before. We returned once again in December.I can't praise this place enough! The food quality can be relied upon. The young lady who served us (10 in our party), knows what she is doing and looked after us perfectly. Well done Gaskill Arms - we will be back!

My girlfriend and I popped in on spec to eat at approx 8pm. It was about half full and we picked a table within the lounge area which had a nice cosy clean feel to it. The food was excellent, the service prompt without feeling hurried and was outstanding throughout the whole meal. I was going to opt for cream on the dessert rather than ice cream as I have sensitive teeth. My dessert wouldn't have complimented cream so I went with the ice cream. When it arrived, the waitress informed me they'd taken the chill off the ice cream slightly for me, just enough but not to melting point. It was perfect and a perfect example of how the whole staff carried an attentive caring attitude towards the customers.Definitely would return.

Defensive manager does not value feedback! This place will therefore not improve. We visited the restaurant as believed it to be part of a good quality complex. Our arrival was greeted cheerfully and we were shown to a 2 seater table. That’s where any notion of customer service ended. My partner went up to the counter to order a starter and 2 meals…. Our drinks arrive promptly. …tick tick… 20 minutes go by. People who arrived after us start getting their meals… …tick tick… I go over and ask what’s happening. I’m told “It’s busy“ …tick tick… I ask again. “It’s busy.” More people who have subsequently come in are served. Eventually the manager (who I saw looking at tickets behind the kitchen) came over with our mains. No starter of soup. What followed was incredible! She insisted that the cock up was our fault! Apparently, the lack of soup was because she could not possibly know what was ordered, what should be a starter and how many people were at each table. That excuse would work in a service station, but we are talking about a place that charges handsome price’s commensurate with table service - but with no table service. We will never go back.

We were recommended this cafe and we weren’t disappointed. My husband and I had the ‘Chocks Away’ full English and as the delivery guy hadn’t been yet we had home made hash browns which were fabulous, and the eggs were double yolkers. Our friends had scrambled eggs on toast and had mounds! Highly recommend this place and the view was great.
