Ate here twice over the weekend - both meals were excellent service, delicious home-cooked food & generous portions of it ! Thoroughly recommend for all round service and value, above & beyond. Staff were very friendly & welcoming , made to feel very at home with my dog - a first that we’ve managed an evening without issue together in a pub!! Thank you, I’d love to return & hope to soon 👍👍🙌🙌

This is an excellent pub but it’s spoiled by the toilet cubicles, the ladies have to reverse into their toilet as there is little space to turn round. The gents are even worse you have to creep inside the door and open the door to the right squeezing next to the toilet, which by the way is not connected to the floor. Then do the same when trying to get out. I know you urinal had all been updated but the cubicle should have been done at the same time. Perhaps if the door opened outwards would help. Also there is no rubbish bin. If this was all done I’m sure you would have a lot more happy customers.

Not a great start with no real welcome - ordered our drinks and main course. Noted on the menu that "last orders must made 15 minutes before the kitchen closes" - no time shown as to what was the closing time. At 1.50 when our plates were collected the server abruptly stated - no deserts as the kitchen is closed! If we had known that we could have placed our desert order earlier. I would suggest the staff definitely need customer service training. It came across as though they were doing us a favour. Its just a pity as it was a rare family get together. We will not be going back.

Polite, friendly and efficient bar staff/waiter/ess service, great grub that veers away from the usual 'pub grub' ( toast the chef), wine at reasonable prices, nice atmosphere and whats even better - you don't twinge or cringe when the bill materialises. We have visited this pub a few times over the last couple of years. First and foremost this is a local village pub. It can be very very clicky but the one thing that stands out is the lack of warmth or welcome from the landlady. At best she is very very rude to some customers, seemingly the younger ones. Although we have not had this problem ourselves we have noticed that she seems to favor certain people, namely locals and older people. The food is without doubt lovely and well well worth the money. Bear in mind also that this is a dog friendly pub, so be prepared for a lot of them in the bar. On the whole they are well behaved but some are very barky which is annoying when the owners think its funny and encourage them. The younger lady who serves is lovely, (I think she may be related to the landlady). Always smiling, willing to do everything she can to make sure you are happy with your meal etc. Unfortunately there seems to be a problem in the kitchen whereby the chef isn't up to keeping up with the orders. On 1 or two occasions we have had to chase up our food as he seems to forget orders. On this occasions we only had drinks. We popped in here on Saturday night with friends for a drink and were unfortunate enough to witness a full on screaming argument with a completely unstable customer about a young man who had brought in his dog (who had had his ears pinned and had them bandaged up and posts in them ) bear in mind that this is an illegal practice in this country and will obviously offend a lot of people, myself included. However, it is not my place to point this out to him. The young man argued that it was legal and that he had brought the dog over from abroad as a working dog. First and foremost this is a barbaric procedure with no purpose other than to make the dog look scary (proven by vets). As a vets assistant I can assure you that there is no benefit at all to the dog other than pain and stress. If its legal we would do it here, we do not! Buying a dog from abroad with this procedure done really tells you all you need to know. It also speaks volumes about the people who partake in this practice. They can all claim they are working dogs but this is highly unlikely. Looking at this young man it was clear it was a statement dog for him. Nonetheless I felt that the whole debacle went on for far too long, upset a lot of children and she should have been thrown out there and then. Moreso don't allow dogs in who have clearly had operations that may make then even more unpredictable. If someone had touched his ears he could have bitten them. God knows what this idiot was thinking brining him into the pub with bandaged ears! I do like this pub as an occasional stop off but be warned it is full of locals who on the whole are very friendly but some do think that they own certain seats in here. The landlady could simply do with being a bit more polite. In this day and age I am sure hospitality needs as much custom as possible.

My Friend & I had been on a very long ramble. We popped in to The Garnon Bushes. My Friend asked for a Latte Coffee & was told that the milk machine of the maker was broke and could only have Americano and something else in a very blink way by a young fella. We made our mind what we wanted to drink, I rested my bag on the edge of the bar to sort out my purse and was told by a woman not to lean on the bar. If we hadn’t have been so desperate for a drink & rest we would have walked out there and then. Don’t be in the hospitality business if you have not hospitable is my advice!!

Good spot to stop off for a nice lunch. We got there around 1pm which was a good time as it got quite busy after we arrived. We ordered a couple of pints at the bar before finding a nice table in the corner by the window. After perusing the menu we were back at the bar to place our order, we had cheese and onion omelette with chips and salad and ham, egg and chips with a spotted dick for dessert. The bar man was friendly and polite and brought us over our cutlery and some condiments. The bill came to £27 which was just about reasonable. There is a car park and seats outside for warmer days.

We ordered fish and chips to takeaway (as we did every Friday) and they brought it out to eat in on a plate when we explained it was for takeaway the landlady huffed and puffed and gave us attitude.she even had the cheek to complain that we ordered the Guinness AFTER the pint of Stella!! The rest of the staff are very friendly and welcoming but due to the attitude of the grumpy old landlady will never step foot in that pub again! Good luck to those that do!!! I have on many occasions had a very pleasant experience visiting this establishment.Unfortunately my last visit was somewhat tainted, it started off ok I ordered a pint of ale, it was cloudy and it tasted off and the smell clearly indicated to me the beer was off.I told the lady behind the bar, who looked at me rather disparagingly and offered an alternative. Then we tried the food, my order came out wrong, I asked to be served what I had ordered, low and behold that look and the attitude reappeared.Once I received my order it was not brilliant. The Garnon Bushes is a very nice looking pub. It has comfortable seating at the front with colourful hanging baskets in a good sun trap. To the side is a small car-park with parking spaces painted on. The exterior is clean, tidy and very welcoming.Inside the pub has a good atmosphere. We were given a cheery welcome by the young lady behind the bar and a friendly nod from one of the other patrons. A quick glance was all that was necessary to see that the people there were enjoying themselves, though it was not packed, it was relaxed. Attitude free. The pub is nicely decorated and the dining area was quite homely with an airy feel about it. The majority of people were there for lunch, and so there was a wait for food that wasn't overlong in my opinion, but we were there for a leisurely lunch. The location was so pleasant I was more than happily to relax there with a tasty half-pint of Courage. We were delighted that the menu was so good. Plenty there for vegetarians (my friend is one) but there was no indication that any of the dishes contained or were free of gluten. I have to avoid gluten but so few pubs have a gluten free menu that I play it by ear. Beer of course was a naughty indulgence, but I was perfectly safe with the ham, eggs and chips. Now the Monday to Thursday menu appears to have "two meals for £12" menu and they represent very good value. It just goes to show how excessive are the prices of some other restaurant when you get meals as nice as these for such good prices. I was served with two good slices of tasty ham, two perfectly fried eggs and a good portion of chips. Unfortunately the lasagne that was brought up for my friend was not the vegetarian version, so she had to wait whilst I merrily chomped my way through dinner. The young lady couldn't apologise enough for the mistake. The lasagne was pronounced very good by my friend, but to my - and remember I had now eaten - eyes it looks like a huge portion. It came in a white rectangular ceramic dish which I thought was very generously proportioned. Certainly for someone who likes her food my friend could find no room for pudding. But I could! I very much enjoyed the Bushes Sundae. Now on this occasion I didn't pay particular attention to accessibility for wheelchairs users. It may be the case that a wheelchair user could gain access by going through the garden at the back of the pub and in through the French windows in the dining area, but I do not think a wheelchair user would be able to get through the front door. The lavatories were in need of a revamp. There were clean. There was no bad odour at all. There was liquid soap and good properly functioning hand driers. However the toilet cubicle would definitely be a problem for any one with impaired mobility as you have squeeze round the side of the pan to close the door behind you. The young lady that was looking after all the patrons single handedly was very hospitable. She took the cost of our drinks off the bill because of the error with the non-vegetarian lasagne. This was a gesture we appreciated. I have already given though to my next visit and who I will introduce to this delightful pub.

Lovely lunch for the four of us (and our dog)on Mother's Day. It was a bit last minute as our usual haunts were all fully booked and we're really pleased with our "find" and will certainly go back. My wife and I had the roast and the boys had a kids meal deal that included a drink and a huge piece of chocolate cake. The bar staff and the land lady couldn't have been nicer and more helpful and the general atmosphere was welcoming. Four meals (including starters), plus two beers and a bottle of wine came to less than £70 which I thought was great value. As a side note, we then went for a short walk in the forest near the pub and saw a herd of deer walking through. We also then went, briefly, to the Theydon Oak down the road so the kids could play in their play area. Lets just say that we're glad we chose the Garnon Bushes for our Mother's Day lunch.

Have been to this lovely public house after several recommendations for about eight months now, during the evenings and weekends and have found all the bar staff to be very warm welcoming, attentive and a credit to the pub and landlady. The home cooked meals and Sunday roasts are plentiful and well worth the money. The ales are of a very high standard which is great for my husband. Especially worth a visit in the summer where the garden and hanging baskets are a sight to be seen. We are all human and everyone has an off day or two so please do not be put off by others reviews and comments.

The young bar staff are lovely! Unfortunately the land lady is very rude! There was no drinking up time given (nor was we ever alerted the pub was shutting or last orders) and she was very abrupt to us, she made us feel as if we had to drink up quickly as we could as we was inconveniencing her. Not welcoming at all.

Bar managment should be left to the younger staff . They are attentive, friendly and very welcoming exactly what you would expect

Nice quiet space and a good variety of pastries, toasties abd great variety of hot drinks, frappes, iced lattes, smoothies. I ordered the pistachio and salted caramel frappe with whipped cream on top. It was sweet enough for me so asked for a bit more syrup and they did. Very nice.

It's not 18th century at all it was built in 16th century. Best pub in Essex . The landlady is a legend.

We did the afternoon tea with Cinderella. The service, food, atmosphere and certainly Cinderella, could not be faulted. The children's afternoon tea is the best we've ever been too. They really understood what the children would and could manage. The adult afternoon tea was huge! Thankfully they gave us goodie bags to take home. We don't live local, but the trip is certainly worth it! Look forward to visiting again.
