We had the usual for lunch which was delicious. In addition we had cake to follow and there is always a good selection. Today Rachel had baked a delicious cake called called sticky Orange. It was fabulous, very moist, delicious taste and after taste. Not too sweet, just right. Many thanks Rachel 😊 for another creation.

I have been meaning to visit here for a while but only just made it. I have been missing out! Good menu, good prices and warm welcoming staff! We sat outside in the quiet area which was lovely. Our peace was suddenly disturbed by some children playing hide and seek amongst the nurseries , throwing a chair around whilst parents were out of sight. How refreshing to have a member of staff point out the rules that children must be supervised at all times! and also informing parents of the dangers around the working nursery. (Which you would have hoped parents were aware of). This is a beautiful place where staff are respectful, food is amazing and I am now confident that poor behaviour is addressed respectfully meaning I can bring relatives who are unsteady on their feet and know my grandchildren will understand that we all need to respect rules. Definitely worth a visit!

Being informed that through the generations, the granddaughter of the family is now managing the cafe which plays a major part in the role of brining in guests, new and old. Credit where credit is due to create such an inviting atmosphere and continue to honour their family heritage. She should be proud with all her staff providing swift and efficient service, smiles all round serving up quality freshly made to order food 6 days a week. 10/10. 5 Stars. We arrived at 3pm, adults wanted coffee, children wanted a drink and ice-cream. I also wanted to buy my bedding plants. I opened the fridge to get our drinks, the rude and unprofessional young girl behind the counter, "Can you hurry up and close the door, it's a hot day!" I was taking four cans out of the fridge? (If I would have been alone, I would have left. Didn't want to disappoint my children). When ordering the children's ice-cream, the same rude, abrupt, unwelcoming young woman clearly didn't want to serve us. Actually tutted when my daughter asked (politely) for sprinkles?!! When I asked for a second sauce on my daughters ice cream. The young woman said "only a bit, we only allow one sauce per ice-cream." Having just served my eldest with an ice-cream, and no sauce? We were regulars here, I used to buy all of my plants and logs from here. The guy that owns the place is lovely. Such a shame. I will not be returning. Jersey girls farm is just down the road. A lovely ice-cream, warm welcoming staff, you can see the cows, and it's next to Burrs Country Park.

Went for Breakfast and asked lovely young waitress if catered for Coeliac's. All I wanted was the Vegetarian Breakfast with Bacon instead of the veggie sausage. When I got to the till I was served by Tracy who said it could not be changed ( I can not understand how a veggie sausage can not be exchanged for bacon) . Why is this so difficult?

I previously wrote a good review for this place, I have visited 4 times after this and I must say they seem to be becoming complacent, each time they run out of items on the menu, even a pasty, I could understand if this was 15:00 on a Sunday but Thursday, not just once, I asked for a breakfast and they said that they stop serving breakfast at a certain time but would sell me individual items of breakfast, why could they not put each item on a single plate that would have been a breakfast ?? This will not be my first choice to go to any more as I will almost guarantee they wont have certain items on the menu, I walked out in the end after asking for 3 items that they said they did not have annoying

We called in at the garden shed after a recommendation by a friend and thought it was nice. We both had a large breakfast, the friendly lady behind the counter was happy for us to swap items that we didn’t like or want for something else. The food turned up quickly and was good, the coffee was nice as well! We arrived on a Friday at 10am and were the first people there. When we were leaving at around 10.30am the place was completely full inside and there was a queue of people so clearly it is popular. We’d definitely go back, we preferred it to the Toby Carvery!

I have been going to the garden shed for a while now, the ice cream selection is always good and is constantly changing, it’s lovely to get one and sit outside in the large seating area. The outdoor space is always very clean. Recently we’ve been going for a Saturday morning breakfast which we have in doors. The selection of food is fairly small but more than enough for a small cafe. The breakfast is well priced and is always very well presented and tasty. The staff are always very friendly and we look forward to going in and reading the papers. I have given 5 stars because the food is always good, fairly priced, the staff are lovely and the whole place is very clean. I think those knocking stars off for small car park and other things that the garden shed can’t change are a bit petty. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed

If you like your food very plain and basic this place is for you. For me it just lacked a touch of garnish and presentation. For example the baked potatoes come on their own with the filling. No salad garnish or touch of coleslaw on the side to make them more appetising. I had the potato pie and peas. Had to pay extra for a tiny jug of gravy, but again no beetroot or red cabbage on the side to add colour and flavour. The food was hot and service good, but I won’t be returning. Too many nice eateries in this region with more imagination.

First impressions are not good, as the car park needs resurfacing - my mum with limited mobility struggled and the paths are quite narrow. The cafe itself had very friendly staff and the cappuccinos were good. The very fresh red velvet cake came with two forks as requested. Luckily we had arrived early as the place quickly filled up - it was too blustery to sit outside and there are more tables out than in. There are plenty magazines to read if. you are on your own. I would certainly visit again.

Visited for Sunday breakfast this morning after it had been recommended. Quite disappointed to be fair, waited 40 minutes for breakfast, as we were told 30 minute delay. However thought we might have been given our drinks. The sausages were horrible, reminded us of chip chop sausages deep fried. Asked for poached eggs instead of fried but told we could not have these. Only fried or scrambled, why?Bacon was very nice and other stuff ok. Toast nice and drinks nice. Staff seems stressed, no welcome and no smiles. Felt the cost expensive for the quality. Won’t return sorry

I first reviewed this place 18 months ago when I first visited having recently moved within walking distance, when I gave it the only poor review on this page. I've been again a few times recently recently and am pleased to report several separate considerably more positive experiences so thought it only fair to provide an updated review. In summary, I absolutely love the place and can only deduce that I tried it on a bad day a couple of years ago. At the time I referred to some filthy children's play equipment, which isn't there any more, an outside seating area which is now considerably improved and much nicer and a lack of premium drinks in the fridge, which is now stocked full of san pellegrino and other options. The presumably new coffee machine is also first-class - and I can confirm that this make a superb cappuccino.Hot food at the garden shed is lovely. The breakfast options are very tasty and great value for money and coffee is very high quality. It's a very cosy, homely place with ready access to newspapers and items for sale to benefit a local charity and very friendly service. The rural location is also perfect for relaxing and a very nice place to spend an hour or two.In summary I've now had several very positive experiences here after one disappointing one a while ago and would highly recommend the place, particularly if seeking a cooked breakfast.

We've only been here the once. Saturday afternoon between 3 & 4. Because there was only one car in the car park I was expecting it to be closed but they are open until 5. We enjoyed a mug of tea, a tray bake(good choice)and a GIANT ice cream cone for our grandson. Yes, we made a mistake there, one scoop would have been plenty. Even he was a bit over-faced by it so grandad had to help him!Very happy with our food and will visit again.Nice to see there were magazines and newspapers you could glance through.Very clean toilet facilities, always a plus.Hope Harriet is there again next time. Then we had a quick look around the nursery. Definitely in the old fashioned vein. After all they actually grow most of the plants themselves. To be applauded. A table full of pumpkins set out individually which was great for our grandson to select his own. Also bought a Juncus effusus spiralis which seemed somehow appropriate for Halloween. It's creepy!

Visited this place today having moved to the area recently and noticed great reviews of the establishment on trip advisor. I'm genuinely baffled as to where the positive reviews have come from and was very disappointed. As it was a lovely day and we live within easy walking distance, we strolled to the Garden Shed and it's garden centre - admiring the lovely part of the world where it's based and where we are now lucky enough to call home. For those not local, the semi-rural location between Ainsworth and Harwood is genuinely lovely.. and a great location to spend relaxing time, but for me that's where the positives for the garden shed end.We sat in the outdoor seating area - which isn't particularly nice to be frank. Wood bark on the ground, felt a bit "dirty", not overly welcoming and not a patch on outdoor seating areas at similar garden centre cafe establishments (such as the magnificent "hidden gem" at Heaton park), so not the greatest start. Ordered the much-acclaimed ice cream - which was OK rather than the heavenly treat described in previous reviews - have had far better ice cream in several places I could think of off the top of my head (Delamere forest railway station shop being one). Cold drinks selection is poor - no premium soft drinks (such as San Pellegrino cans), not even any sparkling water (out of stock apparently) so made do with a can of coke at 80p - never my first choice anywhere. A quick note on the inside area of the shed - didn't look special at all, very basic set up, old looking tables and chairs picked in quite tight. Service fairly slow but friendly enough - a member of staff had to ask me to tell her how much an item I chose from the fridge was. Coffee machine looked ok but nothing premium. So far so very ordinary - but what was utterly disgraceful was the state of the play equipment for children in the corner of the seating area (right next to a toilet block). I've added a photo I took to this review - unlikely to be too clear but the toy house, slide and see saw present were absolutely filthy (the slide looks like that after out two year old slid down it several times - wiping of several layers of filthy grime with his new jeans and remaining covered in that till he got home). I appreciate the proprietors don't have to put any play equipment out at all - but the fact is it is unacceptable to leave filthy equipment available for kids, particularly in an environment where they're eating and drinking, as it's nigh-on impossible to stop a 2 year old running over and playing with such pieces of play equipment once they've been spotted! It wouldn't take much effort to clean it occasionally - given the state it was in today I'd be surprised if it has been cleaned at all in the last couple of years. Far from what I'd expect from an establishment with a 5-star hygiene rating - maybe that should be reviewed imminently? All in all very disappointing and a place very different to that described by earlier reviews - which I have to say I'm sceptical about the authenticity of given the experience. Wanted it to be an amazing oasis on the door step, in reality it's far from it - low end of average would probably be generous. Considering going back to sample a hot sandwich and coffee at some point given how local it is - but in all honesty in absolutely no rush to do so.

I love this hidden gem in between Bolton and Bury. It's a wooden building set in a family owned garden centre. They serve a good selection of ice cream, coffee, sandwiches & breakfast - all made freshly and to your specific order. It is fantastic value for money, especially if you are taking young children. This placed saved my life when we had a new kitchen in 2014. Only problem is if it's raining there isn't a huge amount of space, but that is being addressed with an extension. Nice in summer, as children can roam safely.

This is the 3rd time we have been to Bury market. But the first time we have been to this tea room it is well worth a visit. friendly staff, clean, the food was great to. I do not know why we did not go to this cafe before because it is near the bus/tram station. We will go again
