Visited here today for the first time. We got the ELR and had a walk around the park before coming here to get some grub. It was 11.45am so we got two brekkies. My little boy (5) loves a pbandj butty so we asked for a butty for him. No, that's a lunch menu item come back at 12. . So our brekkies came and my lad watched us eat and we counted down the minutes till 12. The lad on the till said it's peanut butter OR jam, abruptly, so we said peanut butter then I guess, he rolled his eyes and said I'll see if the kitchen can put the jam on the side for you. It vexed me that it was too much trouble to make a pbandj butty. Surely it's more effort to put the jam in a pot on the side than to spread it onto the slice of warbies. I wasn't asking for a Coq Au Vin.. it's two slices of bread with some jarred spread. For £3.50 I might add. I'll make sure to bring a picnic next time. Pedantic.

I visited this cafe today with my 6 month baby, 2 year old my friend and her 2 year old. We picked this cafe as it looks so nice and it’s her birthday. When we arrived we were very relieved to see it wasn’t very busy at all as my little baby is in a pram. I often visit cafes in parks and I am well aware in busy times it can be very hard to accommodate a pram and I would never expect anyone else to be uncomfortable because of my pram so if a small cafe is busy I would not try and take my pram in. However I was very surprised to be told in quite an abrupt way by the lady serving us that if we wanted to sit inside my pram would have to be left outside as there was no room. But there was hardly any people inside. And my baby is only very small she can’t sit in a high chair so we had no choice but to sit outside. Then I requested cheese on toast for my little boy. I am aware there could be health and safety issues RE using the grill and I also know sometimes it’s cheese spread rather than actual cheese but all I asked for was a piece of toast and some of the cheese on the side and this request was again quite abruptly refused. I wasn’t really given any explanation as to why toast with some cheese spread could not be given. I understand there maybe rules and regulations as a customer I am not aware of but I think being curteous and polite and also giving an explanation is very important to help people understand and feel welcomed. I personally felt as though because I had a baby in a pram I wasn’t welcome in your cafe. And I feel even worse reading positive reviews from other mums who were welcomed with their babies as I wonder why I wasn’t treated the same. ***RESPONSE TO MARK THE OWNER *** Hello Mark. My pram was not a double buggy - it was a single. There was plenty of room for a single buggy. I have two children but only one is a baby. I did initially ask for cheese on toast. However when this was declined I asked for a single piece of toast (not a toasted sandwich) with some cheese on the side. I made this very very clear as I understand r there may have been issues with using the grill. Beans on toast is on your children’s menu so I assume it is possible to use the toasters at lunch time to make a piece of toast? Perhaps instead making excuses you should accept when something has gone wrong and apologise and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

This place continues to maintain a high standard for a cafe. Good service and committed friendly owners. Order food at the counter, but you'll need to be shown to a table first. Seating outside at the front or the back of the building. Lots of variety on the menu although the basics are done really well. Thoroughly recommended. PS: Can get busy at weekends.

Visited twice today, had a lovely hot chocolate and hubby had a cappuccino this morning and sat outside. We then went back for lunch and I had a really tasty soup, nice and hot too! Hubby had the Italian ciabatta, both were really nice. If I had to pick a fault I would just say a bigger portion of bread would be a good idea as you get a really big portion of soup! We sat inside with our dog, service was really good, lovely polite staff and a nice atmosphere. We might even go for breakfast tomorrow.

Always loved visiting the lamppost as the food is great however today I went with some visiting family (4 of us) to show them around the area and have a walk so we called for some late lunch knowing the cafe shuts at 4pm we went first to the cafe to give plenty of time before closing time but arriving at 2.45pm we were told there is no more food service only cakes and drinks. We asked if we could just have a cold sandwich even if no hot food available and it was a no sorry the kitchen is closed. Very disappointed as we were all really hungry after a full day out n about and we all appreciated that with just an hour and quarter before closing that no hot food was available but not even able to buy a sandwich before 3pm and it was over an hour until closing? It was the first visit with family but I was really disappointed that the service wasn’t very helpful and they were sweeping up at 3pm. I think at 2:45pm if you have OVER a full hour until closing it wasn’t a big ask and you should write it on your menu when food service stops or state that on the website. Hate giving any kind of negative reviews as we normally love this place but the service was not its usual standard so I hope you take this as helpful feedback. Reply: Hi Mark thank you for the reply it was yesterday Wednesday afternoon 19th June and we arrived about 3.47 as we literally just missed the deadline. But before we went to sit down we weren’t told we had missed the food service. We asked to sit outside at the back as it was actually sunny! And we had our little dog with us. It was a lady ( not one of the youngsters) who served us, my sister in law commented she was a little direct and we asked if maybe we could just have a sandwich but it was a straight no sorry they’ve stopped the food now just cakes available and drinks! So we ordered a few drinks and my sister in law then actually shared a cake with my brother as we were a little reluctant to spend on cakes each after that. We just felt it a little bit daft that they had potentially turned down about £40 of our money via drinks and a sandwich x 4) at only a few minutes past your cut off point. It just felt rather inflexible and we had been out a while so we were all really hungry. I do appreciate what your comments were regarding the clean up. The cafe was virtually empty when we walked in with only about five people in total inside. It was extremely quiet for mid afternoon. I hope this assists you. As I said previously we normally love coming in as you make lovely food and it’s so dog friendly but it was a shame this marred it when it was the first time we had been with our family and had sung your praises previously. However thank you for addressing our comments - we appreciate it.

Overpriced for takeaway £20 for two sandwiches and drinks. In response to reply asking about the quality of food & drinks... Sandwiches were good quality with the bread particular better than the average, but £1.70 for an egg, making a bacon and egg £6.70 to take out was excessive. Drinks, were dreadful. Hot Chocolate (£3.50?) was barely hot. Tea... well... The barista clearly isn't a tea drinker nor ever been told how to make a "brew". Teabag was added to the cup, hot water added then immediately milk was added and the drink served. Not the way to make tea, certainly not at £3 in a takeaway paper cup. Damningly even McDonalds can get it right for 99p for the same size cup.

Always lovely staff and a great place however the food prices are extortionate for what you get. £5.50 for a bacon sandwich eeek! In response to the reply - which was much quicker than the service (sorry) Nowhere charges those prices for decent bacon and a good roll. Neither do they charge £3.50 for a teeny kids sandwich. A fairly good review otherwise and if it works for you, keep going! ☺️

The food and service is really good and we like to go after a walk in the park. The one thing that is really frustrating, particularly on a cold day, is that the door doesn’t automatically shut. So is frequently left wide open when people forget to close it behind them. As there is no porch, you can be often left sat in a draft.

The week before me and my partner went in asked for a table for same girl said shoved us in a corner not much room , there was a couple who do park run both sat on separate tables 1 on each table for 4 , so it’s ok for them to take 2 tables up and there was a man and his wife waiting for a table too we were waiting ages ,one rule them and another for everyone else ,well we won’t be coming again very rude staff telling ppl to wait outside !!

Asked for a grated cheese children's sandwich, received a miniscule, thin cheese spread sandwich, costing £3.50 for just this no sides with it, not worth the money at all compared to other deals at cafes we've been too. My son did not like the cheese spread, which is why I asked for grated. When I mentioned this to staff, that it didn't have grated cheese on, they said they didn't serve grated cheese on sandwiches to children ( even though it was on their general food menu with other dishes, so they had it in stock). They did remake this but told us that this was a one off and to next time not ask for it, the waitress was rude and was relying this message from the kitchen. We will not be eating there again as this was poor customer service. My son my very upset. We have been to plenty of other cafes who are more than happy to provide slight alternatives to food if necessary.

AVOID!!! This place, which has the potential to be a lovely cafe REQUIRES A NEW MANAGER who knows how to speak to people and has even the basic level of customer service skills, unlike the current manager. I had an awful experience when I received something different to what I had ordered (as I am a normal, polite person, this was not a big problem and could be easily rectified by the staff when I told the manager who served us the food it was not what I had ordered). Instead of talking to me politely and offering to resolve the issue, she had a very nasty manner and was almost telling me off, I was made to feel like I was completely stupid and she had me on the verge of tears. I was shocked to learn that she is the manager as the way she spoke to me was so unprofessional and unwelcoming, I will never return to this cafe and would not recommend it to anyone. It is also ridiculously over priced.

Horrible experience, myself and my daughter were made to feel extremely unwelcome. Staff reluctant to find us a table as there were only two of us and the only tables they had seated 4 or more. When eventually we were seated (and by that I mean reluctantly asked to perch on the end of the largest table they had?!), we were then approached by who I think was the owner, in a very rude unfriendly manner, asking if someone (a member of her staff) had seated us there. Insinuating by her tone of voice that we had chosen the table ourselves and she was not happy about it as we had taken up 'valuable space'. When I informed her that we had indeed been seated there by a member of her staff, she was clearly annoyed and then proceeded to ask me to remove my daughter's small stroller pram and leave it outside. We are nice people and I have never been made to feel so unwelcome. Seems to be plenty of nice treatment for dogs, but not a mother and her very well behaved little girl. Isn't this meant to be a community cafe, where everyone is welcome? Certainly doesn't feel that way! Will absolutely not be returning and neither will the rest of my family, who on hearing about this were utterly horrified.

Took 15 mins to be seated, then when seated by a member of staff, I was reprimanded rather rudely by another member of staff for being in an allocated seat, when finally getting seated, I went to order my food and was 1 minute after 2pm so was refused. Ordered a cappuccino which took 20 minutes to come even with staff stood around doing nothing. Never again.

OK if you are a dog lover because they are allowed in. There are notices asking people not to have them on their knees and to take them out if they start barking. Some people ignored these requests.

Waiting in a queue for 15 minutes to be told that there were no avocados. When I asked if I could have the bacon taken off the Eggs Benedict and a reduction in price of a pound or two, this was refused; it seems a shame that a small cafe can't be more flexible. The only other options were a fry-up with substitute sausages and black pudding.

Wonderful, very unexpected and delightful light lunch - and what cakes! - on a very rainy day! We were all staying at the Caravan site and had planned to visit Bury Market but the weather persuaded us to stay close! Very warm welcome into what was already an almost full, quirky cafe. Modest but tasty sounding menu. Paganini’s, sandwiches, jackets, …. Sounds like usual fare but at The Lampost Menu lit up our tastebuds! Log fire crackling in the corner and although clearly very dog friendly, it was dog friendly with limits … doggy friends welcome but not on the seats or dominating so non-doggy lovers can eat here in confidence! And what cakes!! The ginger cake and choc traybake with malteasers and the rest, the Victoria sponge … wonderful. We were then regaled with some amazing history of the location by a really friendly manager. We even shared an idea for a doggy trip adviser - woof adviser - but very quickly discovered someone had beaten its to the money making idea! Thoroughly recommend. Symbolically, the sun broke through just as we were leaving. Follow the light to The Lamp post. It’ll brighten up your day!!

This is the 3rd time we have been to Bury market. But the first time we have been to this tea room it is well worth a visit. friendly staff, clean, the food was great to. I do not know why we did not go to this cafe before because it is near the bus/tram station. We will go again

Called in for drinks and snacks. We ordered tea and iced peach tea. The milk for the tea was curdled and the peach tea was tasteless. Both had to be replaced. The staff were very good abut it. The bagel and currant teacake were both very nice.

You always get a warm welcome at Ground Up, the owner is friendly and approachable and this cafe always has a nice relaxed atmosphere. The coffee is excellent and the cakes are amongst the best in Bury. I've not tried any of the other food but some hot food is available and the toasties and sandwiches look good. They also have a pre-paid items board which you can contribute to for anyone in need of food or a hot drink without the means to pay, which I think it's a fantastic idea. It's a great cafe!
