Ordered full English breakfast. Arrived with burnt chips. I pointed this out and was told they had run out of the usual chips and these were home made. So being burnt was ok!? I ordered some more. They arrived and were soaked in some sort of oil and soggy. I ate the meal and felt somewhat queasy for the rest of the day! How you can a customer burnt food is beyond me!

Coffee at Highdown Garden Centre Restaurant, Littlehampton Road, Ferring (BN12 6PW). Excellent strong coffee but fruit scone a bit light on fruit! Why is there nothing to read on the tables i.e. a menu? Sack the marketing manager!

The Wife and I popped in for lunch. We ordered 2 x pate with toast. When it arrived we were to say the least we where impressed! The plate had 2 good sized slices of pate, onion chutney, 2 half slices of sourdough toast & side salad. The quality was very good, they could have given just one slice of pate and that would have done. Next time we will ask for more toast!!

Having had very nice breakfasts previously we decided to try their Sunday Lunch. Because of allergies my wife has with pepper, we asked and was told that the lamb was seasoned before cooking and agreed that minimal pepper would be OK. However, the whole dish arrived covered in pepper. And when complaining my wife was rudely told that we were informed, not so for everything other than the lamb! As for the meal, the lamb was greasy, turnips were almost uncooked and the remaining vegetables were near cold. Sadly, no alternative was offered - mainly because there was 'no other' option! So, needless to say we will not be going back for Sunday Lunch.

We have been coming here on and off for a good many years, and in general, the overall experience has been good. However, over a longer period of time, I have noticed a consistent lack of attention given by staff, usually after being seated, and then having to wait quite some time before they come to take your order. Sometimes, I even have to walk up to the counter to prompt some interaction. This can and has occurred even when trade is quiet. This is a shame given that almost every other aspect of the visit is normally very good.

Me and friends stopped by for lunch. We were welcomed and seated within a few minutes. Served in a good amount of time. I was delighted they serve gluten free food as I find choice limited eating out with my diet needs. The gluten free sandwich bread was fluffy like real bread. The chocolate cake was vegan as well and still had the consistency of a normal cake. The coffee tasted good and the swan was cute. My friends enjoyed their food too. Was a relaxing environment.

This was our first visit for some time to this garden centre restaurant/cafe and it was nice to be met at the entrance to it by staff and taken to our table. We were served very quickly with our hot drinks arriving soon after along with my toasted t cake. Superb quality Kendricks coffee with friendly staff. Prices were much better compared to a very popular local rival, service in general too with clean tables and good atmosphere. However it all went wrong after that. Our drinks were finished a long time ago along with the tea cake. We had ordered breakfast baps which took a good 45 minutes to arrive after a chase up. Tasty but it doesn’t take long to make something like that. Nice but the wait does put us off from coming again

A beautifully large Garden Centre with a restaurant / cafe type eatery. Clean and airy with indoor and outdoor eating space. Average coffee and tea - scones and jams & cream were well presented & tasty.

Massive regulars of this garden centre. Love that the plants are grown on site, shows they can tolerate our conditions on the coast. Brilliant cafe that has grown into a restaurant over last few years. Lovely happy staff, always cheerful especially Emma, Kara and Jasmine. Thanks guys !

Following the last few years of lockdown, it was brilliant to go here today and see the place absolutely buzzing. Had a fantastic breakfast (super hot coffee and lovely happy busy staff) followed by outstanding steel band playing Christmas songs. We could have stayed all day. Great elves entertaining the children. Just lovely to have some fun again and look forward to Christmas.

We use this place weekly while our son goes riding. Always a very long wait for ordering and equally long wait for provision of food. Today the restaurant was virtually empty with only five people in front to order. It took 20 minutes to place the order. Their systems are very poor in the way they do it. Then we waited 25+ minutes for toast and scrambled eggs!! If you’re happy to wait a ridiculously long time then this is for you. Our recommendation - AVOID

Breakfast ok could be slightly cheaper for portion size but I still enjoy it, biggest problem we have is the lunchtime menu is very poor on menu is just jacket spuds, toastie or sandwiches etc. They do have a special boards but most of time it's just one main meal and some other stuff, come on and improve your lunchtime menu so we can have a proper lunch.

We frequently go to this garden centre to buy plants and always end up in the cafe having a lovely coffee. However, when we last went we noticed that the tables were not being sanitised before people sat down. There is always a note saying "this table is sanitised" but in actual fact it has not. Surely in these challenging times a little more effort could be taken to safeguard both the public and staff. Notwithstanding the aforementioned this cafe is still worth a visit - the staff are lovely and very welcoming

The greeting with menu was very welcoming, the table service was friendly, efficient and quick, the food was great quality and the coffees were the best we have ever had - and they were hot! What a time to take over a business with a cafe. We used to visit very infrequently v this nursery before. It always felt messy and uncared for. However we thought we would try it now it is under new ownership. Very organised, plenty of sanitising stations throughout, extremely clean. We felt safe enough to have a coffee. It was a really good experience, we were greeted by a lovely member of staff who ensured we had given our details. We were then shown to a table with a sign saying it had been cleaned and then a waitress came and took our order. Lovely hot coffee served on a tray that was left on the table. The staff were constantly cleaning and wiping down tables, chairs and ensuring anything dropped was swept up. Would certainly return.

This was our first eating experience since the change of ownership. We must have chosen the right day, a Tuesday, as everything was discounted and we had two Christmas dinners (Turkey and Christmas pudding) and two coffees all for less than £27.00. The turkey was tender with a very good taste with a wide selection of well cooked vegetables and stuffing, etc. The pudding with brandy sauce was exceptionally tasty. The portions were just right; not too big to manage and not too small to leave you wanting more. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The variety in the menus is not large but the quality is good and you can have a conversation unlike Haskins where you are overcome by the din and clatter. We shall be returning to try out other items on the menu. Some new furniture with very comfy chairs has also improved the experience. There is a dog friendly area close by but why not let them in the main cafe as they do at the Highdown Tearooms?

Go back in time when tedious naff pan-pipe music was on the radio or been played by buskers for this is what greets you at what was to be an improved garden centre under new ownership. In fact the background racket is the only apparent change. The place is still bleak, with little stock & less customers. An attempt has been made to recognise Christmas with a few bits & bobs, attempt being the keyword. BUT the café is as always a simple non-poncy wonderful escape from the noisy hordes that patronise the aircraft hanger-like place up the road, Haskins. Breakfast With Santa Christmas comes soon so choose your timing carefully.Staff a delight ( an improvement ), food choice is acceptable & sufficient, after all as a nation we eat far too much.

Visited here 10/9/19 having not been since May. Such a pleasant surprise! New owners (Garden Centre re-named Highdown Garden Centre) are in process of change, but what has been done so far is impressive. Still a cosy, personal place (unlike another close by!) a lovely feeling of space and serenity. The fruit scone with jam/cream was delicious, the scone tasted like homemade. Such lovely friendly staff and dogs very welcome. There is even a small section of the cafe indoors where dogs are permitted. I look forward very much to a return visit and seeing the new character developing. Thank you Highdown Garden Centre for a very pleasant afternoon.

What a joy compared with the awful tacky noisy impersonal corporate supermarket-like Haskins up the road. Thus I’m happy to tolerate that preparing & serving their promoted High Tea’s offer makes for the occasional delay (I waited 15 minutes to order a coffee). Apologies abound however with the exception of one officious staff member who seems unfamiliar with the British way of providing service compounded by an ability to make a lot of noise completing the simplest of tasks such as clearing tables. Despite this minor criticism the place has yet to be discovered by hordes of Yummy Mummies, there are minimal facilities for mini-bus parties & a conservatory overlooking the flowers plus an outside seating area makes for a thoroughly civilised experience.

I took this back and she did not even apologise just grabbedthe plate. When the toast was returned she just plonked the plate on the table gave usa rude look and did still did not speak or apologise. Stopped for a coffee on a cold Monday morning, its very clean and fresh and offers plenty of choices of cake although a little overpriced, including the single Tunnock caramel wafers at a £1 each! The service was slow, even though they weren't busy, the coffee was far to bitter for my hubby even after putting 6 sachets of sugar in and he only drinks coffee, and the hot chocolate was like drinking the sweetest cup of sugary froth I have ever tasted, maybe we were unlucky, but I dont think I would go back.

I've seen some negative reviews. Ignore them - just try it for yourself. At no stage were the staff disrespectful or was the service chaotic. Weekends are busy - so possibly expect a little longer for food service. They are busy and some people are impatient and ill mannered. We had a lovely cream tea. Great value and lots of it. A little bit confused that other reviewers stated that disabled visitors were treated badly - we did not feel that at all as we brought our disabled grandson and he was catered for exceptionally well with staff ensuring that we were comfortable. Will be back for lunch and will be recommending this venue to friends and family.

We came here for a breakfast. We've been here before and my wife went to order her breakfast, only to be told "sorry, there are no breakfasts as the grill had broken down". There was no sign to warn customers of this, so we ordered a couple of toasted tea cakes instead and some hot drinks. Then the till and debit card machine failed so they could not and take our debit card payments or vouchers. We luckily scraped enough money for the teacakes and drinks.

We collect gardening club points every time we use the garden centre on purchases which gives us vouchers offering 2 meals for £10.00 . breakfast is available until 11.30am the lunchtime menu offers a daily temping specials board . The cod and chips or scampi and chips are a particular favourite. The full english breakfast is well cooked, not greasy, and piping hot. We always sit in the conservatory as it's bright and peaceful . The food is freshly cooked with quality ingredients. Very Highly recommended .

popped in to this garden centre after not visiting for about 12 months. it was siege mentality on bank holiday Monday. there were no baguettes left so only sandwiches on offer and they were out of several fillings too. One of the servers opened a refridgerated cupboard and dropped a large container of mayonnaise and salad on the floor cursed loudly and walked away laughing. Once we had been served, we had to walk over to another station to queue for hot drinks. This area was also chaotic and there was much banging of utensils and equipment and emptying out of coffee dregs which missed the bin it seems and then there was some more cussing and shouting between the young rushed and flustered staff. Once we had the drinks and has paid we found a seat and sat down to cold food and more crashing and banging of cutlery and crockery as someone else crashed a trolley................Not a leisurely bit to eat at all and would I rush back............No definitely not. A shame as it looks as though quite a bit of money has been invested in the aesthetics of the food stations etc.

We mainly visit the garden centre for the soft play area which is adjacent to the restaurant. It's small enough for children not to get lost and disorientated and is a safe place for them to play and have fun. The restaurant itself has delicious food and offers children's lunch-boxes which include the price of soft play (otherwise £1.50).

I usually go to garden centres to buy plants and gardening paraphernalia, lately that means anything that reduces the amount of bending and keeps the weeds at bay. I don’t go to garden centres to buy mugs, clothes, books, DVDs or CDs, there are plenty of outlets around for those things. I don’t go to garden centres to eat, drink or sit on Santa’s lap but, sometimes needs must. At the Ferring Garden Center one day last week when it was pouring with rain and I was intent on buying some winter onion sets, I was overcome with a great hunger possibly brought about by the smell of grilling bacon coming from the centre’s restaurant. I checked the menu, under a fiver for a small breakfast, saw someone eating one and I fell by the wayside and off my once a week breakfast diet and dived in. Very friendly staff, comfortable fresh surroundings, a pleasant grease free fried egg, grilled bacon, a reasonable sausage and baked beans washed down with a very nice coffee and, very American, you get a free refill. Not huge but satisfying. I enjoyed it but forgot to buy my onion sets. Uhmmm, will have to go back for them I suppose, maybe I could fit in another breakfast…

We visited the Garden Restaurant on Thursday 20 February. The restaurant is quite spacious with a mix of tables for foursomes and couples. Tables are numbered and orders given at the till. There was a light menu suitable for morning or teatime with a small choice of daily home prepared lunchtime food including a vegetarian option. I cannot judge the main courses because we had soup of the day (which was excellent) and cappuccinos. My wife then had bread and butter pudding which she found very good. The staff were helpful and efficient and, although the restaurant was busy, the food was delivered to our table quickly. On the basis of this we can recommend the restaurant and will go again.
